Great DVD Player

I mainly use the x800M2 for CD and USB playback. CD's and USB MP3's have a new liveliness and musicality. I am now in the process of putting my favorite MP3 albums and compilations onto a USB thumb drive. This becomes a solid state high resolution music server.

Setup was a breeze, and the upgrade to this unit was a noticeable improvement. Upgrading the firmware to the latest revision was also easy and quickly accomplished. Not a single thing to really complain about with this unit - would buy again.

Upscaling 1080p Blus has been excellent. As for cons, I’ve just noticed that it sometimes needs to have the on button pressed twice, but no problems with playback once it starts playing. I’m happy with this one.

It only lacks 2 speakers in the wireless rears vs the top of the line but you wouldn't know it. You won't regret your purchase if you buy this one!!

I'm old school and while I stream a ton of things I just need to have the hard copy of stuff too. The Samsung blue ray I had wasn't 4k plus it recently received an update that just out right killed it. So now I'm a Sony guy I guess.

This is by far one of the best 4K movie players I have ever bought. Beautiful picture quality, and the freeze frame works perfect. I don’t know what I was thinking to wait so long to buy a 4K movie player! Get this player! Nuff said!

Easy to use right out of the box with setup, etc. definitely would recommend if looking for good dvd player that is up to date with the most recent tech.

Ultra Glitchy
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.While it does a great job when it works, it doesn't really work very good at least half the time. While I bought this to replace another Sony player that was having issues I only inherited more. Examples: -It will fault out during Prime viewing and/or other streaming content. The only fix is to shut it off and reboot the darn thing. -The remote won't work with my Sony receiver and vice versa, even though they are about the same age/series. So much for "universal" remote language. -The remote will turn on the old Sony DVD player and confuse my Sony receiver often making start ups and shut downs a lot of fun. The only reason I keep the DVD player hooked up is because the newer player doesn't always boot back up so if I want to finish watching something I have to use the older Sony player which has fewer glitches than the newer one. My previous Sony receiver lasted over 20 years and worked well. Given all the flaws and performance issues of the newer units I have to say I will never buy another Sony product again.

Based on the issues you described, we can offer the following troubleshooting steps that often resolve performance and compatibility problems:
To address the faults you encounter during streaming that require a reboot, we recommend two key steps to clear potential bugs:
1. Update Software: Ensure the player is running the latest software by navigating to: Settings > Software Update > Update via Internet.
2. Factory Data Reset: Performing a reset often resolves persistent glitches. Please go to: Settings > Resetting > Reset to Factory Default Settings > All settings > Start. After the reset, turn off the player for one minute, turn it back on, complete the initial setup, and then test streaming functionality.
Regarding the challenge of controlling your Sony receiver with the player's remote (and vice-versa), this can often be fixed by enabling the HDMI control feature:
On the player, activate CEC (Control for HDMI) by going to: Settings > System Settings > Control for HDMI > On.
Please also ensure the CEC setting is enabled on your Sony receiver as well.
Finally your observation that the new remote also controls your old Sony DVD player is correct. Since both units utilize the same type of infrared signal for commands, this simultaneous operation is a normal function and is not adjustable.

Sony UBP-X800M2 Blu-Ray Excels for Surround Sound

My older blu-ray player had issues decoding certain formats, this player plays them all without any delays for loading and processing. And the sound is amazing! Very glad I upgraded!
