Excellent Sony 4K DVD and Stream Service DVD

Really like the extra 4K streaming available with Amazon, Netflix, and YouTube. Easy to set up with a Sony OLED TV, too. After one year still working great. No issues.

It does what it needs, but the add on of playing SACD's as well as DVD-Audio and Blu-Ray audios, as well as DTS encoded CD's is definitely a plus. Too bad it is not region free, but you can't have everything.

Was considering an LG, but wasn’t fussy either way. In my theatre, I have a Sony 4K UHD, and love it as well. This player connected seamlessly to the LG interface on the TV. Amazing video quality! Wow!

The only thing I wish it had play buttons on the console. I also wish it had a descent iOS remote WiFi remote app. Sony should check out the Yamaha remote app and try to replicate.

Primary complaint is doesn't always connect audio when it connects HDMI. Have to cycle through inputs to get it to pick up the audio. There are probably better options.

And we sincerely apologize that you are experiencing intermittent audio connection issues with the HDMI, which is requiring you to cycle inputs. This is often a communication issue (or "handshake" error) between the player and the connected audio device (Sound Bar or AV Receiver). Please try the following troubleshooting steps, which are specifically designed to re-establish a reliable HDMI connection:
1. Re-Establish Audio Connection - First, ensure your audio device is actively "listening" for the player's signal: Confirm the input selector on your Sound Bar/AV Amplifier (receiver) is correctly set to receive the audio signals from the Blu-ray player.
2. Perform a Full Power Cycle - A complete power reset helps clear communication errors between devices: Please unplug the UBP-X800M2 Player and your audio system/TV from the wall outlet for 2 minutes. Disconnect the HDMI cable connecting the player to the audio system/TV, then firmly reconnect it. Plug the audio system/TV back into the outlet first, and then plug the Blu-ray player back in.
3. Try connecting the UBP-X800M2 Player directly to your TV and test if the audio issue persists when bypassing the AV/receiver or Soundbar

Great working player but needs more apps

I had to connect a separate streaming box to get them. My 2017 Sony same model older version has several apps. This newer model has Netflix, Prime and YouTube.

Picture quality and sound are excellent (Sound is going through a Yamaha soundbar.). I am using the apps on my Sony X950H TV, so I cannot comment on the player's built in apps.

I selected this unit for several reasons: 1) I have had great experience with upper level Sony products. 2) UBPX800M2 has coaxial digital sound output compatible with my 15 year old Rotel receiver. 3) UBPX800M2 has DLNA renderer capability enabling me to play music stored on my Synology NAS directly to my audio system in the digital domain. Had some initial difficulties getting that feature to work, but now working. My iPhone sets up a lossless direct wireless connection from the NAS to the UBPX800M2 which doesn’t drain the phone battery like AirPlay does. The UBPX800M2 is less expensive than any stand-alone DLNA render with digital output that I could find. As expected for any good BluRay player, DVD reproduction is excellent.

It needs more buttons on the player. It has only power and tray open/close buttons. It should have a Play button also, so that one could at least play discs if the remote were lost or damaged.

It produces great quality video however it will freeze in the middle of a movie and you must completely unplug for awhile to fix.
