Sound amazing and for the price its not a bad item

New upgraded line of Sony speakers, with the ULT 3 being in the middle of the series as far as size goes. The ULT 3 was clearly intended to be taken around, as the casing has built in strap connections for you to attach a shoulder strap. When the strap is not in use/unattached, the attachment points hide away flush into the body of the speaker. Volume is plenty loud, but if you activate the ULT button the speaker automatically boosts the bass EQ. Battery life is rated for up to 24 hours, but only reaches 5 hours if using at maximum volume output. The speaker itself is rectangular, and can be stood in vertical or horizontal orientation depending on your needs. If you invest into the ULT sound ecosystem, one cool feature is Party Connect mode which daisy chains multiple ULT speakers to create stereo surround sound. With its form factor, Sony foresaw its use as a beach/pool/camp speaker, and the ULT 3 has a robust IP67 rating meaning it is dust-tight and can withstand submersion in water up to 1 meter deep for up to 30 minutes

Relying on the Sony name, I paid about $200 but found the sound quality is not that great. The extra bass button is kind of gimicky. Comes with a shoulder strap when an integrated handle would have been a better design.

Interesting little speaker. Packaging was kinda over the top but hey, it's Sony. So it has a few Pro's and Con's. Here are a few of my Pro's. It is lightweight compared to most of the others in its class. I like the cloth cover instead of the metal or plastic that is on most speakers. Sounds pretty good. Played some jazz, country, r&b from the 90's and some metal. It seemed to really like the metal without using any EQ settings right out the box. The rest needed some tweaking with the EQ. It feels durable but I wasn't going to test the floating ability, I will probably get to it once the pool opens up and give it a whirl next to it wile I clean the pool. The included straps were a great bonus. Wish more vendors included one especially the way they implemented it on this speaker (easy to put on and take off). The last Pro but is a pretty good one is the battery. Running it for about two days straight after charging it which only took about 40 minutes out the box.I had it connected to one of my tablets and let it play music for a few days until it turned off from the battery running out. Once I got the software installed and running it turned off the battery care at first and then after the first power cycle I turned that feature (Battery Care) on and it went for about 4 days before it got to around 20 percent battery left. Truly impressed wit what Sony did with the battery technology. Automatic update was turned on immediately. Now for the Con's. One big one is the software. It installed and ran just fine on my Android phone but when it came to my iPhone, oh boy. Was not pleased at all. Usually it's the other way around but this was a pain on the rear for about two days. Way too many install, uninstalls to get the software to work in iOS. That is pretty much the only Con I have. Reason why I gave it 4 stars instead of 5. Would I recommend this speaker, yes. I think it should be a little lower in price but hey when you buy a Sony product you know you are going to pay a slight premium for it.

Music volume is not as high as expected. Would prefer for the volume to go up higher so therefore it was returned. Otherwise it was a nice speaker.

Great product for the price and it is very try loud

Not a bad speaker just not what I was looking or hoping for.

So I am a big fan of Sony Bluetooth speakers. And I enjoy this one. I like the look. I was not sure if I liked the concave shape of the body, but I do like it. It kind of makes it more modern than say 2 years ago :-D It's a good size for a small speaker. I like the black. It comes with a handle-strap, knotted at the end to make it a functional handle-strap. If you lay it horizontal, SONY (the word) sits upright. But this can also sit horizontal. The charging port, which is USB-C has a rubber flap to keep it covered. Then there are a few buttons to make it function... nothing special, just basic... such as power. There IS an ULT button that is basically bass boost. Connecting the speaker was extremely simple. Push that Bluetooth button on the speaker and then let your device find the speaker. Hit it to connect. And boom. I connect to my iPod (yes, I still have one) and my Android phone. Then chose songs and playlists. Sony has a Music Center app, which I connected to so I could see if it offered what other Sony Bluetooth speakers offered. You can choose your music from your connected device. You can adjust the sound via the equalizer. BUT the one thing you can't do is connect this to other Sony speakers to create a speaker group and hear music from more than just this speaker. That was a bit disappointing, but also not that serious for me. It is what it is. The app also allows you to update the software of the speaker. This speaker gives some good and impressive sound. I like it. I let it fully charge before using it. I forgot about it, so I don't know how long it took. Every time after that, I kept plugging and forgetting, so I can't speak on the time. That is typical for me though. I won't wait to say that the problem with charging is that suuuuuuper short charging cable. Honestly, what is the point of that. I actually really don't understand that. I would really like to understand the thought behind that because it's dumb. BUT, that is not reason enough to deduct stars or not recommend. Back to the sound, I am big on audio and big on bass, so there is never a need to turn off ULT. ULT on at all times! I noticed that when I sit it on a surface (table, countertop), the sound is better because the bass is a little more pronounced; but when I simply held it in my hand, it was just slightly less. The bass is not something you are going to get out of a big speaker by any means. But for a small speaker, you can hear it, it makes the sound more full, and it's pretty impressive. When you put your hands to the sides, you can feel that bass booming. The funny thing is the feel of the bass does not match the sound of the bass. As hard as those sides punch, you would think the bass would sound even more strong. Again though, these are things I noticed, NOT things to take away from this being a good speaker. I like this little speaker. But never make the charging cable that short again... my goodness. I definitely recommend it though.

Sound quality wasn't as good as I thought it would be

Most people seem to have at least 2-3 bluetooth speakers laying around their house and I can say that I am no different. Bluetooth speakers have come a long way since there first iteration. Trying to get decent bass out of a small portable speaker was usually difficult however companies like Sony continued to develop their speaker technology so we can have masterpieces like the ULT Field 1 wireless speaker. This speaker features a ULT button which essentially is a bass booster. You can notice quite a difference in the bass when the ULT button is off. The speaker can be charged via USB C and connecting to your device is as easy as connecting any bluetooth device. Once I had my speaker charged and connected I proceeded to play some bass heavy music and I was floored by the quality of bass that came out the speaker. The speaker uses what is referred to as a sound diffusion processor to create big sound from a little package. The speaker is IP67 rated which means it can withstand dust and some water without any issues or rusting. You don't have to second guess taking the speaker to the park or the beach as you will have nothing to worry about. The speaker is also shockproof so it can survive an occasional fall or bump. The speaker can last about 12 hours on a full charge and I can attest to that since ai have not been able to drain the battery yet while working in my backyard. You can use the strap to carry the speaker or hang it up which is what I did while using it in the yard.One feature that I have not been able to test is the ability to link 2 speakers together because it us currently sold out at Bestbuy. I am patiently waiting for my second speaker because if 1 speaker can deliver such great sound then I can only imagine how 2 will sound. You can also use the speaker for phone calls as it does feature echo cancelling. I did use it for a zoom call and everyone on the other end said the sound was coming through clearly. If you are in the market for a portable bluetooth speaker with great sound quality then I would not hesitate to recommend the Sony ULT field 1.

Complete dog poop. They constantly disconnect, and have to be paired with a cell phone over and over because they never stay paired. When connected to any output device via Bluetooth the connection drops randomly. Sound is pretty good. But they are totally dysfunctional otherwise.

I have used a variety of different Bluetooth speakers. I have to say that this one has a lot going for it. This one has the speaker in the middle that you would expect and then it also has speakers on each end. If you set it down horizontally it sounds slightly different as both end speakers can easily be heard. If you stand it up vertically, it will block off the bottom end slightly. It does have slots that allow sound to come out, but the bottom speaker is slightly muffled. There is also a base button ULT that is a nice base boost at low volume levels. It is clearly made to take anywhere. The surface has a fabric like texture and rubber on the ends. It also has a thin rope tied to both ends so you can hook it onto something or tie it onto something. Kind of a nice feature to secure it. You could easily hang it on a hook or something. To charge it there is a rubber door on the back. The door seems to fit pretty snugly to keep moisture out. The charging cable is not too long and does not come with a plug. You will need a charging block to charge it, but most people already have a charging block. There is a feature within the Sony app that allows you to join multiple Sony speakers to play together. That is a nice feature. It does not come with a manual, but you can easily download the 80 + page manual if you would like to. Using some of the features like making calls with it as it does have a microphone you wouldn’t know unless you read about it in the manual.

I do have a few portable bluetooth speakers and while they all promote having unique features, they are all the same product. So, what makes this one special?? Packaging is simple, speaker comes with a charge cable (no wall AC adaptor) and instruction booklet. I compared the audio to battery powered speakers and a few AC powered just to see how it compared. I do like the fact that it does look like it needs to be vertical to perform the best but it can be used in both orientations and not inhibit the music quality. I do feel the detachable multi-way strap will be super handy, from hanging on the back corner of a chair, to securing it somewhere in a golf cart, possibilities are endless if you wanted to bring music along on your adventures. The ULT button does make a considerable difference in the volume and bass levels, selecting and unselecting makes a noticeable difference. I do prefer the ULT button on while using this speaker for a more complete audio experience. Keep in mind this will significantly decrease the estimated 12 hour battery line, higher volume and ULT on will shrink battery life to 3-4 hours. They promote a grab and go, take it anywhere especially outside, built to last speaker. I would agree with all of these points and the speaker does feel well built, has some weight to it and the design of having the IP67 certification gives you the ability to use this in basically all conditions and environments without worry. Set up and pairing with an iPhone was seamless and quick, it does have an app if you are the type to customize but out of the box this speaker performs nicely. Sony vs. Soundcore Motion X600 Full Disclosure the spatial audio on this speaker is fantastic so its sorta an unfair comparison BUT the Sony does hold its own factoring in all ranges and bass. For most stationary settings I still prefer the Soundcore. Sony vs. Marshall Action III Volume on the Marshall is on a whole other level but averaging volume between the two you notice subtle differences in the way these speakers broadcast sound. Sony touts their Sound Diffusion Processor and like above compared to the Soundcore, it does try to fill a room with sound but just can’t keep up with either speaker in that regard. This speaker is smaller by about half so factoring in still how loud it can get is impressive. To be more detailed its a good loud, not a distorted turn it down ASAP loud! The size would have me grabbing this speaker vs the Soundcore for more mobile adventures. Overall the features align with all the outdoor focused options - generous battery life when maintaining volume levels, rugged design with IP67 ratings, ability to pair with another for stereo audio and decent call talk through. This speaker is a total package!
