Speaker is great. I asked for the colors they had available and the employee said they only had black. I actually didn't mind black so I bought it. Well I opened mine up and it was white! The employee didn't know that the picture on the box was generic and that there's a swatch of color showing the color of the speaker in the box. Knowing how bad Best Buy is at returning items that aren't used, I just kept it. However, I will not be returning to this store and will purchase everything online now because of lack of training and lack of effort from the employee to dig in more. I have 19+ years of retail experience with 1 company and expect better service at the point of purchase.

The unboxing was just the start of a premium experience. Someone put some thought into this as before you even use it, you feel and see a premium product that is presented professionally. When I removed it from the box, I was not sure how much battery charge it had, but I wanted to try it immediately and it did have enough for about 45 minutes of listening before I plugged it in for recharge. I have not had it long enough to know how long the battery lasts, so I will not speak to their claim of 12 hours, but like every other battery powered speaker, the louder you listen, the shorter the battery life. The USB-C charging port is behind a rubber plug that is tight enough to withstand splashes, but I would not put it underwater or subject it to water pressure. They say it is IP 67 rated which means you can use it near splashing water, but not submerge it. The instructions talk about dusting it off and cleaning the speaker covering if it gets dirty, but I would not put it under running water if I had to clean it. The controls are pretty straightforward with on/off, Bluetooth indicator, pause and play, volume up, volume down, and the ULT button that really makes this speaker shine with CLEAN bass boost. It is not boomy like other similar size speakers. My only nitpick is that when switching the ULT button off and on, it makes a tone sound while attenuating the music. It is a bit annoying, but I leave the ULT on all the time, so no big deal. Connecting with Bluetooth is a snap and anyone who has paired Bluetooth devices will have no problem. The ends of the speaker are where the woofers are located and they sound far better if the speaker is horizontal so both are open to produce sound. It can stand on one end, but you lose some bass in this position. Make sure to download Sony Music Center to have more control over this speaker. I tried receiving a phone call on it, but it was too far away and the caller could not hear me well, likely because of distance from the microphone. It was clear on my end, so I need to try this again. I have not drop tested it yet, but it looks rugged enough and will likely withstand a drop from 3 or 4 feet without damage due to the contruction and the materials it is built from. Another nitpick is the carry strap is a double cord with a knot tied in the end. While functional, I think it detracts from the overall look and feel of premium that they obviously were going for in this speaker. I also own a JBL Flip 6 and this speaker is similar in size, but about an inch longer. It beats the JBL hands down - no comparison in sound quality - especially in bass response! All in all, this is a great sounding speaker and highly recommended.

I have been a Sony fan for 40+ years now and have always been pleased with their quality and innovation. I still use many older Sony devices around my home, including the portable SRS-X33 speaker which still sounds amazing. But anytime Sony offers up something new, I'm keen to check it out. I now own the new Sony ULT Field 3 portable speaker and as usual, Sony hits another one out of the park. I chose the off-white colored unit and its dimensions are 10"W x 4.5"H x 3"D. It weighs about 2lbs, 10oz, so it's what I consider a mid range speaker, yet it's still quite portable. To help with the portability, Sony includes a shoulder strap so that it can be carried around easily (although it does somewhat resemble a purse at that point). It's a touch finicky getting the strap attached but it does help greatly if you need to transport it somewhere. I also like that the speaker can be used in either horizontal or vertical format. The build quality is very nice and it apparently uses some recycled and eco-friendly materials. Sony rates its waterproofness at IP67 so it's both waterproof and dust-proof. They also tout that it's shockproof so it should hold up well in virtually any scenario. Battery life is listed as 24 hours( probably in "Stamina" mode) and a quick charge of 10 minutes gives you 2 hours of playback. You can also use the speaker as a portable battery pack to power up other items that connect via the USC B port on the back, which is super helpful. The USB C port is hidden inside a flip down door that keeps the unit waterproof. Within the app, you can also select the "Stamina" setting that turns off some of the flashier speaker features to extend battery life. There is also a "Battery Care" feature that only charges the battery up to 90% so the life of the speaker is optimized. Set up was easy. The buttons located on the unit are for power, device pairing, multi-speaker connection, volume and the ULT feature which increased the bass and "richness" of the speaker's sound. Pairing was easy. I just launched the Sony Connect app (on my iPhone but it's available for android as well). It was very quick to pair and it then prompted me to update the unit's firmware, which took about 20 minutes. Once that was done, I rifled through the app to see what features it offered..and it offered a TON of stuff. I'm just going to mention them briefly as I probably won't use many of them but it's nice to see they exist in case I ever have the need. The app offers a custom 7 band equalizer for even more sound customization. It offers a DJ Control feature that allows you to add additional sound effects while playing music, like record-scratching, drum effects, audience cheers and more. I can see this being fun for parties. The ULT 3 allows for 2 devices to be connected to it at once, and the speaker also has Sound Field optimization so it can deliver the best sound by listening and adjusting to the surrounding environment. The sound quality is amazing as usual. I strongly recommend using the "ULT" feature on the unit as it makes for a much more dramatic sound. Without it, the music sounded a bit flat but of course, you can fix that via the custom equalizer within the app. I was very happy with just the ULT button on and didn't need any further customization. It's very clear, powerful and it gets very loud. The sound distortion is at a minimum when the volume is turned way up. I only recommend testing that once..lol. The speaker has a "Connect" button that allows you to link it to another compatible Sony speaker for true stereo sound or all the way up to 100 other compatible Sony speakers, giving you a much more immersive experience. The speaker can also be used for taking hands-free phone calls and has "Echo Cancelling" technology that provides very clear sound. Overall, Im super happy with this new speaker and all it has to offer. It's arrived just in time for Spring and Summer outings and will be happy used as often as possible. Thank you Sony for another impressive offering, that so far, does not disappoint!

So i bought this speaker to use for work. Im a mechanic in a loud shop and i wanted something with clear full sound without braking the bank. I was in the store for about 2 hours going back and forth from jbl to sony to bose and marshall. The bose was way to expensive for the lack of performance and sound quality, the marshall was amazing but was double the price compared to the sony and the jbl sounded good but didnt have the clarity and bass i wanted for 10 dollars more. This sony at full volume is loud and clear full of warm bass and clear mids and highs. The extra bass button is a cool feature but their app allows you to customize to your sound profile and it takes all your audio apps like Spotify, pandora, youtube music and more. Oh another important feature is how long the battery last, i can go 2 10 hour work days listening to music before it dies... so for 99 bucks its the best sounding one out there with the sony quality and name!!!

Sony ULT Field 1 Wireless Speaker (Black) When I initially removed the speaker from the box, my first impression was that it felt like a very solid quality product that’s made to last. But since it’s from “Sony”, I expected nothing less. To get the startup instructions, Sony includes both a scannable code and a URL. I used the instructions from the URL to get the setup instructions. However, most users can probably get the unit set up without even needing those instructions, since the speaker is ready for Bluetooth setup right out of the box. That’s a real nice touch. Even though the unit was partially charged, I used the included cable to fully charge the device, since I wasn’t sure how much charge was included. Once you’ve paired the device via Bluetooth, the speaker is ready for use. (I chose to pair it with my phone.) The next optional step is to download the suggested “Sony | Music Center,” which allows you to adjust the sound quality of the speaker. To use all the functions and performance enhancements, make sure you use the latest versions of “Sony | Music Center” and the internal software for the speaker. Once I had the unit set up and the software downloaded, I started playing various types of music. The sound was both soothing and awesome, depending on my music selections – just what you’d expect with something from Sony. Pushing the ULT button on the top of the speaker activates the ULT sound feature that’s designed to boost the low frequencies in the music you’re listening to. Since this speaker is waterproof, rustproof and shockproof, that means you can take it with you when you go to the beach. Since I spend lots of time on the beach (it’s right across the street from my house), that’s a big plus for me. Carrying it to the beach was made so much easier by using the included multi-way strap. And with a battery life of up to 12 hours, I don’t have to worry about the battery giving out before I head back home. Finally, the built-in microphone can be used to enjoy hands-free cell phone calls that you'd like to share with others. This quality device has a lot going for it. I have no doubt that you’ll enjoy it as much as I do. Highly recommended.

If your looking for a booming sound system what will fill your backyard party with music this isn't it. The Sony ULT Field 1 will give adequate music while sitting around the firepit w/ a small group of friends. It also sounds great indoors while working at my desk. It does great at drowning noises outside my cubicle without creating a racket for everyone else. Inital build quality seems nice. I like the squircle shape so it wont roll when on its side. The body is solid and the fabric covering the majority of the ULT 1 feels nice. But I have a distain for soft touch rubber coatings. Within a few years of using this outside exposed 2 uv and hand oil oxidation it will become tacky and oily. It's almost like it planned obsolescence with anything companies use it on. I also like the cord loop handle. It can also be removed or replaced quite easily. I added a small hero clip carabiner for a little extra security while sitting in the water bottle pocket on my backpack or messenger bag. The hero clip also allows me to hang the speaker in various places which can come in handy. Connection via Bluetooth was quick and painless. Volume can be controlled on the speaker itself or via the volume rocker on my phone. The ULT button gives it an extra boost in the low ends for music with some bass. I prefer to turn it off when istening to podcasts. I am not much of a fan of the sound the speaker makes when turning the ULT on/off. Charging was quick over USB C with an adequate PD charger. The speaker can also be used while charging. I found I can use the speaker through a full 8hr work day. If the ULT 1 sounds this good out of a speaker the same size as my coffee mug, I can only imagine how the ULT 7 would sound. If anyone is looking for a great sounding weather resistant portable Bluetooth speaker I wouldn't sleep on the Sony ULT 1

Say it with me, Sony ULT Power Sound. Yes, it’s that simple. My normal routine when it comes to really assessing anything I purchase is to first look at it’s packaging. How much does the company care about the product it’s selling, and is it protected during transporting? This thing is packaged well and has adequate protection. Here’s the kicker though: it’s not like it needed great protection. Taking the ULT out of the box, the first thing I notice is how well it is built. It feels like high quality durability construction in a smooth, eye-pleasing package. Buttons are completely sealed but easy to press, and the lanyard makes it easy to carry or handle in some cases. I also found it helpful when I wanted to hang the speaker on something for mounting purposes. Overall the design is fantastic, simple, and serves its waterproof and dustproof claims well. Where I really fell in love with this thing is in its simplicity. Turned it on, picked up my phone, and there it was asking me to connect. Um… Sure! That was it. I was listening to music in less than 30 seconds, and that includes me opening the app to choose something to listen to. That simplicity alone gives this thing an edge over other listening devices. Then, once the sound started coming out, I was very surprised by not only the quality, but the power. When I say power, it’s not just about volume level. Even at low volume, the sound from this speaker is rich and full – really delivers! Sony hit all the marks with this one, and it’s all good for the consumer. This has been one of the easiest products to recommend for me. If you are looking for great sound in a durable package with a simplistic approach to use, look no further – this is it. It’s 6 stars for me.

This speaker does not have an automatic shut off so after period when you are not using it the unit stays powered on wasting battery life.

Ok speaker but the bass sounds plasticy when you turn it past half way

I had to return this wireless speaker because it lost volume on several difference songs. There was no way to adjust to increase the sound even though I had it at maximum output.

Sound good for the price and for the size. No better than the JBL flip competitor. Definitely not worth over $100. Buy on sale if you really want a small sony portabke speaker. Sound in ULT mode is the best equilizer setting.

This is Sony's newest speaker. It replaces their Extra bass lineup overall the Ult series. This is their smaller speaker but it packs a punch. Inside the box you get: Short USB Type C to USB Type C cable The speaker itself And a strap so you could carry it on your shoulder I'll say the negatives first to get it out of the way. This is a Sony Speaker and not a cheap one at it but it lacks LDAC support which is ashame I wish it had it. Also if you have the Ult button on than you can't do a custom EQ which also sucks. Otherwise those are the only negatives that stand out. Anyways in terms of basic specs it is a Bluetooth 5.2, 24 hours of battery life , one woofer, tweeter and 2 passive radiators. It also is IP67 so you don't have to worry about getting it wet near a pool, bathroom or etc. As far as sound goes it gets decently loud for the size of the speaker and with the Ult button its bass is very pronounced like what you'll expect from the older extra bass line of products. For parties and etc this sounds great.

I don't know what caused Sony to dedicate itself to figuring out how to pack as much bass response as they possibly could into the smallest speakers possible, but clearly they were not satisfied with their previous efforts with the XB series. With the ULT Field they appear to have designed a portable twin subwoofer, then figured out how to stick a couple tweeters into the middle. I don't know if you can necessarily call the sound that results it the most accurate audio reproduction available, but the rich tones that result are undeniably satisfying. So yeah. It sounds good, and if you turn it up all the way the bass tones might be powerful enough to shake out any fillings you have in your teeth. Sony has definitely accomplished everything they set out to do, and you probably already know if this is the kind of speaker that appeals to you or not. How'd they do with the rest? As it turns out, rather well. The speaker strikes a pretty good balance between being big enough to produce decent audio and being portable enough to carry around in a backpack. The frame is sturdy, the materials all feel very high quality, and the adjustable carrying strap is versatile enough to offer plenty of options for lashing it to your gear. Only potential downside is the fact that both subs fire out the sides, meaning that anything pushing in on either end could potentially damage one. I don't think it would be easy - every effort has clearly been made to make these parts as rugged as possible and the protective frame at each end should protect it from larger hazards. But It still feels vulnerable enough that I'm kind of surprised it didn't come with a carrying case of some sort. Overall I'd have to say this is a very good option for parties, camping, biking, or any other lovers of low frequency vibration on the go.

I am not an audiophile or anything, but I do appreciate products that allow me to enjoy my music with good quality sound. I am a fan of Sony from their TVs to their soundbars, so I was excited to hear the sound that could come out of this new little speaker, and oh man I am super to get this before the summer. I like camping and kayaking, and this speaker is going to make these moments more enjoyable for me. Pairing was easy. I didn’t download the application, and so I appreciate that I can just use this straight out of the box. I have enough apps on my phone, so being able to just use this as is and having it sound this great without playing around with the settings is a perfect speaker for me. It has the ULT button on the actual speaker in case you want to take it easy with the bass, and so no need to download the app. A big plus for me! Sound is amazing and the bass it’s the best I’ve heard from a speaker in this size. The only thing where this fall short for me is the cheap lace design they decided to go with. They call it a versatile strap, but’s just a lace that for me it feels like it doesn’t belong on this speaker. It’s such a beautiful, designed speaker from end to end, but this black “strap” makes it feel a little cheap, and so I opted to remove it and instead put a clip on it. This is what Sony should have straight from the box. Overall, I recommend this to anyone looking for a portable speaker this upcoming summer. If you’re a fan of the strap awesome, but if you’re not just put a clip on it like me or take it off for a super clean look!

Excellent speaker! The sound quality is phenomenal and the battery lasts the entire day, even when outside and on the beach. I bought this as a gift and will be buying one for myself now.
