Very good, but not perfect
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great computer however it is a bit pricey for what you get. Having a touch screen and being able to flip it to tablet or presentation mode, is great. I use presentation mode 90% of the time. It's like having a tablet with a built in stand (and a huge screen!). It weighs a little more that I would like, but understandable for a 15.5 laptop. The flip screen is nice but a little annoying on occasion. It tends to flip when you try to open the laptop if you've forgotten to lock it and don't open it using both hands and grabbing it from the bottom half. It will flip right into your keyboard and I'm afraid it will damage something some day. Once you get used to opening it properly (or locking before closing), it should be fine. I like have a wired ethernet port if I need it, many of these types don't now. Also like having three usb 3.0's instead of one like most. Screen res is good but at times I wish it was super hires like the Yoga 2. However, until more developers support the hi-res screens properly, I think 1080p is the highest you should get. I you have a lot of legacy apps, you will spend a lot of time in desktop mode and you may end up with an app that looks like a postage stamp if it was hi-res. Another minor issue is that it isn't the most comfortable on my lap because of the feet. They aren't large and round enough to be comfortable on my legs. They tend to dig in a bit. I usually forget about it pretty quick when in use or I use a lapdesk sometimes. Battery life is ok, but could be better. Nowhere near as good as a tablet. I'm lucky to get 4 or so hrs. Better than my previous laptop. Performance is great. I got the i7 with the dedicated graphics. Not a gamer, but the few I've tried run a good FPS. I'm sure it would have trouble with modern games running with high settings, but pretty darn good for a non-gaming laptop. Having the active stylus option is probably what sold me the most on this. It works great. Wifi works great.

A Lot of Features and Power
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I travel a lot and have been using a small HP for years, but it has finally begun to disassemble. I do a lot of digital photography and use Adobe and other products to work images. This use factor means I wanted a large hard drive and sufficient processor power to work my high definition images. This Vaio provides both. To access the tablet mode, unlock under the screen and flip to "clam shell" face up and cover keys. This gives you tremendous real estate and access to everything via its touch sensitive screen. An optional pen also provides many features, but there is no place to store / dock the pen. In the tablet mode you can move from landscape to portrait perspectives - but you will soon discover that bigger also means heavier and sometimes its size inhibits finding a comfortable position - especially if in and air plane seat with the seat in front reclined! In normal laptop mode the screen sometimes does not respond to subtle touches. This machine comes with Windows 8, but this review is about the machine and not the OS. Good battery life - though Sony has the power management set to only charge up to 80% as they claim this will give the longest lifetime to the battery. This feature can be defeated. Back lit keys help when typing in darker environment. The screen gives excellent color rendition. Note, the machine does not have a built-in CD or DVD drive. It does have built in networking as well as Wi-Fi. The case is solid and well configured. The processing power is excellent. I recommend this machine to others. I believe, however, Sony is selling its laptop division – so there may be issues with customer support in the future.

A great laptop for a weekly-gamer student
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm really pleased with my new laptop. Honesly, i didn't hope for this much. First of all, it has a great design, although it could be a little lighter. It has an innovative flip touchscreen that allows you to switch your laptop into a tablet. It has switchable graphics, which means you can choose when to run on the integrated and on the dedicated ones. Running on the integrated, you'll have a long battery life, up to 6-7 hours (personally tested). Running on the dedicated, will let you have a great gaming experience, running the last years games on medium to high texture quality. Obviously, the screen resolution is gorgeus, the best one on the markets. The i7 processor and the 8 gb of ram do their work almost perfectly. The laptop's showing up with the new windows 8.1 operating system, which, believe me, i didn't think i would like very much. Now, i can just say that i love it. With the laptop, you'll also get Webroot, a very good one-year antivirus that does its work impeccable and quietly. If you want value for price, you should buy this Sony Vaio!

Great when it works - if you get a good one
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm going to be on my third one in since December. I love the machine and will try again. First one had a bright spot on the screen. 2nd one had a clicky hard drive right out the gate and made it just under two weeks before failing to boot/recover, bad smell from back of machine. This laptop has falls into three groups. Either people love it, people tolerate the issues or people have lost a lot of time, patience and love for Sony on this one are pretty upset. I'm in the tolerant group. I've worked through the update issues and understand the hardware limitations. I do appreciate the design and overall functionality. When it works, it is just awesome. There's too much to list and too many little patches and gripes. But if you have the patience to spend the time with software updates and fixes, then I think its worth it.

DOA on arrival.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. When I bought this laptop, it was for the widi feature and its screen size. I pressed the power but nothing happened. I thought about taking it back..but did some research on youtube, got some tools, and opened the darn thing up. And it wasn't easy. After it was opened I discovered that the hard drive was not connected via the prongs. I clamped it in but did not close the keyboard cover. Turned it on and it worked. Thought while I had the laptop open I might as well replace the hard drive with a full ssd. It didn't fit perfectly but worked. One side my keyboard bulges up a little. lol. but barely noticeable. Sony uses a slim drive hybrid 2.5 hard drive. Never seen this before till this year. Too make a long review short. I had to get an old copy of windows 7 . Install that. And then buy an upgrade to windows 8 pro.and download all the drivers from Sony. It took a little over a day to figure this out. be sure to disable efi bios if you decide to upgrade the hard drive. Since I bought two of these laptops. I just cloned the new ssd using a USB3 to sata adapter, popped it in the other one. and worked right out the gate. works flawlessly. Just had to buy another windows 8 pro serial number.

Great Laptop, Pretty good tablet
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. In my house, we have 4 ipads, two android tablets, and a galaxy note 2 phone, so I have a bit of experience with touch technologies, ios and android. I bought this laptop because I do a fair amount of work from home, and it's convenient to use for my couch unit. Additionally, I have become very tired of websites not working or not working very well with the tablets. Tonight, I was answering my email (tablet mode) and opened the Best Buy message that was requesting that I do a review. So I tapped the link and started filling out the review form (still in tablet mode) until I realized I was typing a lot with the on-screen keyboard. So I just flipped the screen around and started using the keyboard! Very cool. Only things that are negative in my mind: 1. It's too heavy to be a convenient walking-around tablet. I figured this would be the case, but really wanted the big screen, so that's on me. 2. I know a lot of people hate windows 8, but I really think it's awesome. The only down side is that the apps are pretty sparse. The ones that are there look great and the screen touch response is great.

Overall, a good gaming laptop
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Bought this as gaming laptop backup to my desktop for when I was out of town. For moderate demand games, like Warcraft, it works very well. The fold back, giant tablet feature is also nice especially for streaming a movie. It gets pretty warm and slightly distracting fan comes on when pushing the system but it's tolerable. You probably don't want to set it on your actual lap under these conditions but perfectly comfortable when just surfin the net, messing with a document or looking at pictures. The touch pad is a little odd but easy to turn on and off. I mostly use a wireless trackball. It is not light weight. It is one of the few game-worthy laptops with a large screen that is a touchscreen. If you're stuck with windows 8, you might as well have a touch screen. All in all, for the money, a pretty nice machine.

Great Multi-use Laptop
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall. this laptop is great! It is fast and responsive. The screen flip is convenient for laying on the couch and foot up. The touch screen is great but every now and then, it's rendering to the touch response is not really good. For example, scrolling a webpage is slightly lagging when using the touchscreen but very smooth with the multi-touch pad on the same page and session. Every now and then, performing operations in simple applications like web browser or folder properties locks up the OS with the OEM load. Lastly, the biggest problem is the WiFi chip. It does not support dual bands and therefore, does not support 802.11ac for a fast computer.

Great all around laptop!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This has been a great laptop overall. I have my own business so I am on the go a lot and this has been great for everything I need. Its great in normal laptop mode, but love that I can flip the screen around and just use the touch screen. Its great for games too! The screen is very crisp and has great brightness. They keyboard feels great when typing. It looks very sleek and is very lightweight. Basically, its an all around great laptop for business or personal! The only bad things about it are the touchpad, which doesnt register a tap every now and then and if you want to click it, its pretty stiff. But nothing that major. Also the fan can run pretty loud, but only runs when gaming to doing anything intense. Lastly, it does show finger prints because of its finish, but I just bought a micro fiber cloth which easily takes them off on the outside and on the screen. In the end, I would definitely recommend this to anyone! Very happy with my purchase!

Good buy for the money
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I bought this laptop for both personal and business use. It's quick and loads quickly. It has enough features to cover casual use, as well as being powerful enough to use for professionals. I like the 2-in-1 feature. It's nice to be able to browse the web on the couch as a laptop, read in bed with it being a tablet, or placed on a desk for a full blown work station. The only thing that I don't like about it is that the touchscreen will randomly go off, and the only way to get it working again is to restart the laptop.

Awesome if you don't do the 8.1 upgrade
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I love my computer. I love that I can flip it and use it as a tablet with a huge screen. I can play my Sims game on it without lag, thanks to the NVIDIA video card, which is why I bought it compared to others. HOWEVER..... there is a BIG problem when you do the upgrade to Windows 8.1!!!!!!!!!!!!!! the touchscreen will randomly stop working on me, which is the reason I bought this computer in the first place. I've been researching on how to fix this problem but there's nothing and many others out there with the exact same problem. It is upsetting that I have passed my return date or else I would have returned it and gotten another one and never have done the Windows 8.1 update. So, great computer as long as you don't do the Windows 8.1 update!!!!

great laptop for high end user
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This laptop had some software issues with the touch screen and blue tooth when it was first released, but they were address with release of a new bios. I've used it for entertainment (music, videos, and streaming internet, graphic art and technical drawing for about three months. I connect it to a large FHD monitor. Sound is louder than most laptops and can fill a medium size room and is comparatively good quality. It has lots of bells and whistles including (vaio care) self diagnose and repair that links to Sony support if necessary. I've only had to wait a couple of minutes to reach support and the community web site is active and helpful as well. The full HD touch screen works very well including with the stylus pen (an extra $39). The flip feature turns it into a large tablet including a pop up virtual keyboard when needed. Except for a CD, it combines a lot of nice features which may justify its somewhat higher price. I am very satisfied with it so far.

excellent value
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Updating from an earlier Sony Vaio that's a couple years old and this one is far superior to it. The speed is much faster, weight is almost half and the screen resolution is better than most TV screens you can buy in those cheaper "big box" everything under one roof stores. Anyway if you have an older machine and are ? if you should upgrade or not do it you will not be disappointed. The only thing I don't care about is windows 8, but I don't think there is a windows based computer out today running anything else now.

Excellent computer for photographer
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Computer was purchased to show off my photos for my business: excellent little machine. Always raring to go, always happy to have 30 photos open in Photoshop, 14 internet windows all doing different things, moving huge chunks of data from one place to another - this guy can do it all without a stutter. Still being consistently frustrated by Windows 8 (too much of an overhaul, guys!) and since that's what came loaded on him, I have to figure it out but it's annoying when you can open a window three different ways and then not figure out where it went. The computer is excellent, the operating system, not so much. Haven't really done much with the sound except watch a couple movies, and that sounded pretty great. He was a little pricey, but I'd buy him again without a hesitation.

The best computer I have ever seen!
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.1/26/14 was the luckiest day of my life! My niece, Jas the Geek, was there to help me, the Sony Rep, William was in the store, and I had a good Best Buy salesman, Rafael! Everything about this computer is Super! The best selection I could have made. I didn't know what I was missing using my eleven year old computer. I still have much to learn, but every day I feel more positive that I bought the best computer on the market today. This is my third Sony, and I will forever proclaim how happy I am with Sony products. TV included. Please don't stop making computers! No one can take the place of Sony! Thank you!

Love the touchscreen, apps, fast internet.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I most like the size screen, it works great with my business! Love the amount of space in the hard drive, good amount of memory, and touch screen is another easy access for me. I also like the long battery life. What I don't think is great is that there is no cd access, or am I not seeing it? I'm not able to install any programs I had from previous laptops. I'm not a computer person so it's not convenient for me. Other than this, this laptop does my job!

Finally a powerful PC/Tablet combo
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been waiting to replace my 6 year old HP tx2517cl tablet/laptop, but all of the convertibles out there showcased weak hardware specs. THis Sony model has no such problem. The unit runs fast, runs smooth, and when you pick up the optional stylus it really takes off in applications like OneNote, which is what I use for seminars and writing up patient/client evaluations. There are some minor problems: there is nowhere to put the optional stylus on the system (unlike a Galaxy Note or the old HP tx2517cl). Also if you forget to push the screen switch back to "Lock" and leave it on "Release", you're in for a surprise when you open the computer up again. It will flip right at you. This unit is a bit pricey, especially at launch, but the hardware on the unit is at least strong unlike most of the other convertibles out there.

Nice combo tablet laptop.
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I was in debate of purchasing a Surface Pro 2 or a laptop. I found this Vaio more suitable for what I am looking for which is the more powerful components of laptop such as the processor, ram, graphics card and hard drive that is good enough to handle gaming with the versatility of a tablet. The tablet has good feel and if you hold it like a legal pad using your forearm, it feels extremely light weight and easy to use while standing up or sitting down. It is a really a nice combo with great battery life for someone who cannot decide if they want a laptop or a tablet. This combo will work.

Good touch screen laptop for home
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This was my first laptop with a touch screen and so far I am liking it. I had a few problems at the beginning with the touchscreen locking up and not working, but a few updates later that was resolved. I do find the touch pad on the keyboard a trifle over sensitive. I often accidentally open the menu or bring up the last application. But it isn't a deal breaker.
