Great sound, not great fit
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sound quality and ANC on the earbuds are unmatched! That being said, I guess i have abnormally small ears. These are a fairly larger fitment than other options. This over an hour or two, starts to cause some decent ear cartilage pain/discomfort even with the smallest ear canal tip. It's a great earbud for short short time frames but will not work for my 12 hour a day desk job unfortunately. Just can't get over the pain caused over time sadly. Was looking forward to these bad boys for a while.

Posted .Hi LoganM, thank you so much for the 4 Star review. While we are pleased you are satisfied with the incredible sound quality and fantastic noise canceling function of our WF-1000XM4, we are sorry if it did not fit you well. The WF-1000XM4 features an Ergonomic surface design for a stable and comfortable fit. If you feel earbud tips are difficult to put into your ears, change the size of earbud tips or squeeze earbud tips lightly before wearing the headset. For the proper sound quality, noise canceling function, and call sound quality to be effective:
• Change the earbud tips to ones that fit more snugly in your ears. When changing the earbud tips, try the earbud tip sizes in order from the larger ones to the smaller ones. The size of the left and right earbud tips may be different.
The “Sony | Headphones Connect” app will help you to determine which earbud tips are most suitable for you to achieve the optimal noise cancellation effect.
• Referring to step 2 of this link https://helpguide.sony.net/mdr/wf1000xm4/v1/en/contents/TP1000237901.html?search=Fit, check if the headset is properly worn on your ears. Wear the headset so that the earbud tip is comfortably situated as deep in the ear canal as possible.
We appreciate your input, and we will surely take note of it as we always strive for the best customer experience. Thank you so much for your purchase and for choosing Sony!

Great sound, less comfortable
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I had high expectations for these based on my love of the WH-1000XM3 over ear headphones. The sound did live up to expectations, it was great. Bass is nice and thumpy without drowning out treble and mids. They just didn’t feel comfortable in my ear (tried multiple bud sizes) and would fall out at the gym. I don’t like the foamy buds. I ended up selling them and buying the AirPod pros which have comparable sound (maybe slightly inferior), but 1000x more comfortable, have amazing transparency, and work flawlessly with my phone I still gave 4 stars because I feel that sound is far and away the most important factor for audio equipment. And the comfort wasn’t horrible, just wasn’t great.

Great earbuds, 100% recommended
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Another great addition to the Sony lineup. Second to none noise-cancelling when comparing with similar earbuds in the same year, sound quality is great, and overall functionality is amazing. Battery-life is more than enough for most long-flights and the ability to charge the earbuds in the case for a few minutes to get seemingly 10x that in playback time is clutch when you're using for them for an extended period of time. These earbuds don't hurt my ears as other earbuds would after 3+hours of use.

Good, but not Great. Semi long tale...
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Not sure where to begin, but i will start by saying i consider myself decently versed in the $350 and under headphone/earbuds/audiophile areana. I currently have 6 pairs of wireless buds and one pair of over ear headphones, the sony wh-1000xm3(they still hold up, but i will upgrade soon). When sony started to implement their mind blowing ANC and features into ear buds i had to have them. The wf-1000xm3 caught my eye when they debuted, but i thought the look and shape was odd and probably would not work for me and my ears. So when the wf-1000xm4 came out and i saw that the shape and look was better and i instantly wanted them. Alas, their price tag at the time was way to high for what i could afford. I was already using the Powerbeats Pro (in terms of my $200+ buds) and loved them, and was only going to get rid of them for some like the sony's pending the reviews were accurate. It took almost a year to see price drops on these and on the beats fit pro. On amazon day the beats fit pro dropped to a record low and i jumped on them. Sony did too, but still not low enough for my budget at the time. I sold my powerbeats to a friend and was satisfied with the BFPs...BUT always in the back of my mind lived wf-1000xm4s rent free. So during the black friday sales when they dropped below $200 to $178 i had to get them and satisfy my curiosity. I knew that after BF sales they would be back over $200 and i was right. Sony will probably come out with an XM5 model, but i didnt want to wait. My curiosity just had to know if these were as great as reviewers said. So overall i do like them, especially for what i paid. Had i paid their almost $300 initial price tag i would have been upset lol. The fit- THEY ARE HUGE. Just like the wf-xm3, i was for sure that this would be the reason these would not work for me. They come with memory foam tips which i am familiar with from other buds i own, but i did not care for them with the wf1000xm4s. So i switched them out for some silicone ones i had lying around. FOR ME this helped so much with them staying in my ears a little better. These are not the earbuds you want to work out in because they will fall all the way out. You use these anywhere, except extensive activity. The ANC is just what reviews said it would be. FOR EARBUDS i am thoroughly impressed. The transparency mode is insane through. Everything is almost over amplified and that's great imo. The tech/features. Just like with the wh models the reason why these are so big is because of everything inside them. The app lets you customize most things, but the one downside is customization to sony's presets. So for your touch controls for example it will give you three options that you can set and you choose one. Fully Customizable is an interesting phrase. Did not bother me none. Battery-The advertised battery power decreases when you have all of the festures on ANC, etc etc. That was disappointing. Other disappointment was if google voice (google something) is activated you can only use the right earbud independently. I thought my buds were broken one morning because i usually do single buds in my left ear. Other plus and negative is the talk to mute feature. It's a feature where if you start speaking the Music mutes. You set your voice to these buds and if you statt talking the music muffles. Here's why thats also bad, this will mute/pause anything thats playing if it thinks you're speaking. Your favorite song could come on and you start singing or humming it a bit, MUTE! It's like it's telling you to "shut up! You can't sing! Lolol! It has also happened to me if i clear my throat or cough. You can turn it off, but i like the feature. The sound is amazing. I listen to eveeything, but my main thing is i want bass when there is supposed to be bass, vocals, mids, highs, for earbuds these are fantastic. Now this is what i LOVE about these buds. Just like on the over the ear WH-1000 series, in the app you can customize your soundstage. Sorry for the long read if youre still here, but thats why i gave a 3 star review, they are really good as people say, but not perfect. If you could give a 3.5 that would be better. My biggest gripe is the size and the minor feature annoyances i mentioned. Glad i only paid $178 for them and not above $250. OH! call quality is decent. I stiil think apple leads in this arena. These buds are my new leisure earbuds. Ive even fallen asleep with them in. I would not oay full price, but if you find a deal like i did, then they are worth it. Wireless charging case A+, but i purchased an additional protection case from amazon. Less than $15.

Top Tier Active Noise Cancelling Earbuds!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Sony - WF-1000XM4's are the latest and greatest in Sony's Active Noise Cancelling earbud line and they don't disappoint. They bring an assortment of comfortable ear tips as well everything you need to charge your earbuds. The fit of the XM4's were snug on my ears and they were easy to put in and take out and they felt very secure when placing them in the charging case. The sound quality of the XM4's was very pleasing as well as setting up the ANC and other settings within the Sony mobile headphone app. The best feature of these earbuds is the active noise cancelling feature which helps block out noises around you that would otherwise take away from what you are listening to. There are also safety features so you can hear what is going on around you for times when you do need to pay attention to those things. Overall the Sony - WF-1000XM4's are the total package and they are at the top of my list when recommending any ANC earbuds!

Posted .Hi EldinS,
Thanks for sharing your review and experience with the WF1000XM4. We're glad that you like the sound quality, touch controls, battery life, and fit of the headphones. Your feedback about the volume is also appreciated.
For optimum performance, make sure that the software version of the headphones is up-to-date (via the "Sony Headphones Connect" app).
The overall volume may vary depending on the source content. Make sure to turn up the volume of the connected device. If the size of the earbud tips does not match the size of your ear canals or the headset is not properly worn on your ears, you may not obtain proper sound qualities, noise canceling effects, or call performances. If any of this is the case, try the following:
-Change the earbud tips to ones that fit more snugly in your ears. When changing the earbud tips, try the earbud tip sizes in order from the larger ones to the smaller ones. The size of the left and right earbud tips may be different. The “Sony Headphones Connect” app will help you to determine which earbud tips are most suitable for you to achieve the optimal noise cancellation effect.
-Check if the headset is properly worn on your ears. Wear the headset so that the earbud tip is comfortably situated as deep in the ear canal as possible.

Worth every penny.
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you have spent the time reading through specifications, and everything that this headset is capable of it delivers on every point. I have about six other pairs of buds that cannot measure up to these, when it comes to sound quality, comfort, noise, canceling, and ease of use, plus the app makes them better than they already are being that you can customize of the sound. They are worth every penny, the only complaint I have is that they should have a couple more size fittings between small and medium and medium and large

Almost perfect
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. They are great in all ways but a few Pros: quality sound battery life bass clarity looks controls Cons: Fitment for smaller ear canals, even the smallest tips were slightly too big for me to wear long term without hurting the cartilage in my ear “ I had to fix this by getting alternate xtra small spin fit tips on Amazon that were smaller then their small” and that fixed that issue. Can’t use voice assistant commands and independent ear bud mode at the same time Cost - Probably about $50 more expensive then they should’ve been. $225 would’ve been the sweet spot in my opinion.

The Everest of BT Earbuds.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is the best pair of true wireless, active noise cancelling headphones that I have purchased. I've tried almost every set of high-performing and high reviewing pair of headphones in the last 2 years, including the Jabra T85 Elite, Samsung Galaxy Bud Pro, WF-1000XM3s and currently the Bose Quietcomfort Earbuds. I spent almost 3 hours with these the moment I unpacked the flimsy, cardboard box. I went into this knowing nothing about 360 Reality Audio. When I put in the earbuds and received the demo, I immediately registered the 3 month TIDAL trial and listened to about 25 different songs. I cannot emphasize how cool this technology is. I recommend spending your first day with these immersing in the Dolby and 360 audio tracks to understand how different your listening experience can be here. I'm not an audiophile. Vocals are great. Bass thumps harder and more accurately than some of the overpowering low tones I heard from some of the previously mentioned pieces. Sony also has an outstanding equalizer built in, along with a built in system that recognizes your movement, environment and listening pattern to adjust things like the noise cancellation level. (i.e. sitting will suppress exterior audio and recognize you're lounging, walking will enable ambient noise for safety) These things look great. I didn't like the look of the previous generation, and I'm a fan of the microphone quality for calls. The accessory case is snappy but feels a little loose/flimsy. I don't need it to fidget, but it isn't as bulky as Sony's previous cases and has a much smaller footprint than my current Quietcomfort Earbuds. The box they come in is probably cheap for an environmentally conscious reason, but it doesn't give you the pleasant slow opening of an Airpod Pro box. These headphones are the best wireless earbuds I've had the pleasure wearing in 3 years. I feel like I've finally found the perfect set.

Great buds, never going back to passive buds
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great sound, great noise cancelling. These are my first Active Noise Cancelling earbuds so I have nothing to compare then to but these are comfortable and a huge step up from my old passive buds. Battery life is pretty good on the bus themselves but the case needs to be charged more often than in used to. Only down side door be if the occasional pressure sensation I feel with noise cancelling on but it only happens in specific situations and can be relieved by turning on ambient noise cancelling mode.

Ecellent in-ear headphones
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is my first pair of true wireless in-ear earphones and I am totally satisfied with my decision to buy them. Actually I didn't buy them, they were a Christmas present from my wife, (I told her I wanted them), and they went on sale at just the right time. I charged them until the orange light on the case turned off, and since Bluetooth was already turned on on my phone, they paired to it as soon as I inserted the left earphone in my ear. I installed the Sony headphones app onto my phone and experimented with different settings until I decided on a setup that I liked and then set them up to those preferences. The noise cancelling feature is phenomenal; my neighbor's lawn care specialist was cutting the grass while I was wearing the earphones, (no music or videos, I just had them in getting familiar with them), so I activated noise cancelling, and when it had fully activated, I could no longer hear the lawn tractor at all. I had the "Speak-to-chat" feature turned on and set to focus on voice, and when my wife came in the room and asked me a question I couldn't hear her. I asked her to repeat the question, and as I spoke, the noise cancelling turned off for me to be able to talk to her. After we had finished the conversation, noise cancellation reactivated after the time period I had set, which is 15 seconds. I don't have music installed on my phone as I am medically retired and I'm home all day so my music is on my computer which I then play through my stereo system, so I installed SiriusXM on my phone just to see how they sound playing music. "Black" by Sevendust was playing, and being able to hear the music with no outside noises was great. Noise cancellation was still turned on, and when my wife came back in to say something the music stopped when I spoke and then continued when the conversation was over. I would imagine that if I had been playing music that was on my phone it would have paused the music and then continued from the same point, On streaming music it continued at the point where the song was playing in real time. I haven't used them long enough to drain the batteries much, but just doing what I have done, the battery level has never dropped more that two or tree percent.

Great sound, good fit, but not perfect
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The audio is clear and isn’t tinny or muddy. The optional ear bud foam pieces was very helpful. As some others have pointed out, the right ear piece does drain battery at a quicker rate. However, I am still able to get atleast a solid 8 hr day of constant use in before “low battery” warning message hits. The only other real con that I have is the limiting factor of being able to program the buds to only be able to play/pause and control volume OR control ambient/noise canceling (both modes are excellent and I use both often). You have to pick between having two of the three controls /toggles in the app and cannot use all three features like the headphone version. But overall, I would buy again. And they look cool too.

Expensive, but noise canceling is fantastic.
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Compared to the Pixel Buds 2, these are amazing. The XM4s are louder and the noise cancellation is amazing. As far as I can tell, noise cancellation is comparable to the WH-1000XM3 headphones. Battery life is amazing; the buds last a full work day without needing a recharge. Comfort is great, but they probably would not work for people with small ears. At times, it feels like the earbuds are going to fall out, but the foam tips keep them locked in. These earbuds stick out from my ears a little more than the Pixel Buds. There are some minor complaints. First, Sony has a strange Google Assistant implementation where the right (or left) earbud is the master earbud. This means you can't use the left earbud independently. The only workaround is disabling Google Assistant. Pixel Buds are the only earbuds that intuitively integrates Assistant. It does not use master/slave pairing. Second, the touch controls are needlessly convoluted. The 3 categories are playback, volume, and ambient sound control. You can only have 2 out of the 3 controls enabled. By default, playback control on right earbud and ambient control on left earbud. Manufacturers should take a note from the Pixel Buds. Controls are the same on both buds. Tap to play/pause, double tap to skip, triple tap to rewind, swipe up/down for volume, and hold for voice assistant. Lastly, for such a high price, I think Sony should have made the case even slimmer. Admittedly, it is much smaller than the WF-1000XM3 case, but it is still thicker than the Airpods Pro or Pixel Buds case.

Improved noise cancelling performance and Bluetooth “System on Chip” technology delivers the industry’s highest evel of noise cancelling yet uses less power. Thank you for choosing Sony! Erin

Huge and balance can be unstable
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These are pretty big, but they stay in and aren’t uncomfortable. I only use them for about an hour a day. I can’t tell a difference in sound between these and my old. I can’t really justify the price, I thought that premium ear buds would sound better, well they sound better than AirPods, but I had hoped these would be impressive. Occasionally the balance will shift to the left for a minute or so and then the right for a minute or so and finally center. They have also cut out on me a few times. The seal makes noise canceling pretty good, but the pad started in my ear when I removed the earbud. Easy to resolve, but never had that happen before. I really like Sony and they have some nice features but then you get to the software which is mediocre and read that they will collect all they can. These were not a free! Battery is good, calls are good, case feels solid and well made and have some nice features that can be configured. I would not recommend at this price point. The return period is past, so I have deleted the software and accept that these are just ok. I expect better for the price and the reputable name.

This is definitely not the listening experience nor impression we'd like you to have with our premium headphones. Here at Sony, we always strive to deliver quality products that deliver an amazing customer experience.

Rich sound; poor fit
||Posted . Owned for 2 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. These earbuds pack a rich, powerful sound. The accompanying app allows users to adjust the music and the noise canceling feature based on individual preference and their location. They are stylish, too. The XM4s are sweat proof, which makes them gym-friendly. The trouble is that they don’t inspire confidence that they’ll stay put while working out. They take some getting used to, because they don’t fit like other earbuds. The upper orbs of the earbuds feel top-heavy, making me constantly put my hands to my ears to make sure they don’t fall out. And this occurs with leisure listening. It is for this reason I give the XM4s a 4-star rating. Again, they sound great. I just wish they fit more securely.

Solid audio, easy setup, tricky ear fitment
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Quality audio experience, solid ANC, but the product can be a bit tricky to get a perfect fit. For best ANC you should size up with the included buds, you'll feel like your jamming them into your ear but if you just work them gently you'll get a comfortableand, stable fit that provides a great audio experience. I'm a casual runner and hike, it feels like they will fall out of your ear but they won't.
