The Earth friendly headphone

The Sony’s WH-CH520, the earth friendly headphones. First thing you will notice is the packaging. It is light, small, and when you open it you won’t find a lot of stuff inside like we normally use to. The box you can tell immediately is recycled material and it does not contain any plastic packaging inside. In the box you get the headphones, USBC charging cable and some manuals. Setting them up was a breeze, I do appreciate how Sony is implementing such an easy way of pairing their devices with Android and Windows operating systems. Just by turning the headphone on, it will automatically show up on your mobile device or Windows PC and ask if you want to pair it.
The headphone itself is light and it looks simple. On the right ear cups there are 3 buttons with multiple functions. It also houses the mic and the charging port. The buttons are used to control music, summon the assistant and phone calls. This is a budget headphone so don’t expect a premium build. It is mostly plastic and the same goes for the cups foam cover. The cover for the speakers also seems to be made of some type of recycled material. However, don’t be fooled by the looks, they sound pretty darn good for being budget headphone. I was impressed with the sound, it was loud, clear, and with a clean bass. It was not the type of deep base that you’ll get from a more premium headphone but it was good enough for this device.
These headphones also support 360 reality audio. To take advantage of its capabilities you have to use the Sony headphone app. In the app you turn on the 360 audio feature. You have the option to measure your ear size, apparently the app analyzed it and adjust the 360 audio accordingly. To use that feature you’ll have to download a separate 360 reality audio app and create an account as well. I honestly didn’t see the purpose of that app but it was required to be installed to finish the setup for 360 audio. I honestly didn’t notice a difference in sound without the 360 app. Call quality was good as well. Person on the other end was able to hear me loud and clear.
When it comes to batteries they will last a long time. Manufacturer suggest 50hrs of continuous play time and about 200hrs standby. The only negative I found about this headphone is the earcup size. They seem to be made for a person with small ears. I consider myself to have an average ear size not too big or too small. This headphone will not cover my entire ear, you will also notice that the ear cups are not that big compared to some other headphones. Despite their size, they were able to produce a good clean sound, but not the seal you prefer to mask the outside noise especially if you have large ear size. That’s a trade off because this device does not support noise canceling. Another thing I noticed, after prolonged use my ears got a little warm and had a little bit of sweat.
Overall this is not a perfect headphone and if you want close to a perfect device it will come with a higher price tag. For the price you pay for these, you’re getting good earth friendly headphones with good quality sound and great battery life and that’s of course if you don't have large ears.
Hi Wishkid, Thank you for sharing your thoughts on the Sony WH-CH520 headphones. Your detailed review provides helpful insights into the features and performance of the headphones.
It's great to hear that the packaging is eco-friendly and that the setup process was easy. The long-lasting battery life and good quality sound are also impressive for a budget headphone. However, it's important to note that the ear cups may not fit comfortably for people with larger ears and that the lack of noise canceling may not provide enough sound isolation in noisy environments.
Thank you for sharing your experience with the Sony WH-CH520 headphones.
Regards, Carl

The headphones are lightweight and comfortable to wear for long periods, and the Bluetooth connectivity is reliable with fast pairing. The built-in microphone works well for Zoom calls and phone conversations, with people saying I come through clearly.

I recently purchased the Sony WH-CH520 Wireless Headphones, and I am thoroughly impressed with their performance! These headphones offer excellent sound quality, delivering crisp highs, clear mids, and satisfying bass. Whether I'm listening to music, watching movies, or taking calls, the audio experience is top-notch.
The wireless connectivity is seamless, and pairing them with my devices was incredibly easy. The Bluetooth range is solid, and I’ve never experienced any dropouts or lag. The built-in microphone works great for hands-free calls – my voice comes through clear and natural.
Comfort is another standout feature. The headphones are lightweight and the ear cups are soft, making them very comfortable for long listening sessions. I’ve used them for several hours without any discomfort, which is a huge plus!
The battery life is fantastic – I get many hours of uninterrupted music on a single charge, and they recharge quickly. The stylish black design is sleek and modern, making them look as good as they sound.
Overall, I’m extremely happy with the Sony WH-CH520 Wireless Headphones. They offer great sound, comfort, and value at an affordable price. Highly recommend them to anyone looking for high-quality wireless headphones!

I’ve been using these headphones daily and they’ve exceeded my expectations. The sound is crystal clear with strong bass and balanced mids/highs. They’re super comfortable—even during long listening sessions—without causing ear fatigue. The Bluetooth connection is stable and easy to pair, and the battery life lasts me multiple days on a single charge. Great value for the price, especially with the recent $10 price drop. Highly recommended!

Great headphones for casual listening. Excellent battery life too! Mids and Bass are definitely synthesized, but for use with my Samsung Tab, it definitely is better than ear buds. Definitely will be replacing my coffee table ear buds that I always seem to misplace.
The packaging states 360 Reality Audio. This is not a feature you can just turn on. It requires the Sony App to be installed and then requires your to run a setup, which includes the app taking pictures of your ears to give you the best sound experience, where they upload the pics to their servers to be analyzed and stored and then create the sound profile for your personal experience. Truth is, I cannot know if this is really being done because you cannot access the feature unless you run this setup. Then once it is done, it tells you which apps it is compatible with...which happen to be none that I use...which only 6 or 7 were listed. On the Sony's product website though Amazon Music Premium (not included with Prime) was listed. I could test this feature being a Prime member for free for 3 months so I gave it shot.
Once in the music app, it will display which songs have 360. And honestly, I didn't actually care for the 360 version of the songs, it made it feel more hollow. I jumped back and forth between the SD and lossless Ultra HD versions of the song and then compared to YT Music versions. Overall I preferred the non-360 versions.
They don't list any video streaming apps that work with the 360 audio feature, but watching the demo via YouTube it doesn't sound like (no pun intended) that it is a goal. This is a licensed feature, so I'm guessing this is supposed to be a Dolby Atmos competitor for music listening. I tested Spiderman Into the Spiderverse via Movies Anywhere app and it did sound really good and picked up on the left right channels. The YouTube demo I mentioned, does add layers to the basic 2 channel setup, that makes it feel like it is spacial audio, but truthfully I didn't feel like an immersive experience.
I feel like my testing of the audio apps was more true to life than their demo.
My review rating I struggled with as I am not a fan of "walled garden" approach to extra feautres that are not explicity stated on the packaging and then getting into the app it was a bit complicated a first to get the ear photos taken. But the more I understand that this is a new technology/feature and has not been fully adopted by the industry, the fact that they are including this feature in this price range is also something to note.
I do like the compactness of these compared to some other brands and while definitely not as compact as ear buds, the earpieces do rotate to lay flat, so putting in a backpack or just lying on the table will make for a slimmer profile.
They are definitely more comfortable than earbuds in my opinion and long movie sessions won't cause ear fatigue.
One thing I think most can agree with is you cannot go wrong with Sony. They have always represented a premium brand along with premium quality!

I needed a set of Bluetooth wireless headphones for a new LG OLED television I had just purchased. This set of Sony headphones fit the bill perfectly and at an exceptional price point. They are feather light, connected to my tv with ease, and have plenty of battery life for hours of use between charges. The ear cups are small and sit on my ears as opposed to over them but I can wear them for extended periods of time without any discomfort. Then sound quality is good. There is no noise cancellation so I would recommend using them in an environment without too much ambient noise. All in all I have been very pleased with them so far.

These headphones are amazing. Its good enough for enjoying music and for me, really great for meetings remotely. The mic is good enough and I find these headphones to be very comfortable.
Can't really beat the price and quality combination. In my opinion, these are a great deal for daily headphones. For hi end audio, other headphones would be more suitable but I've found these headphones to be not overbearing in the audio spectrum.
Battery life also appears really good. Used them all day and it says it has 70% remaining.
Plus I like how fast it syncs to my devices, another plus

The headphones arrived almost fully charged, Set up was relatively easy, but you really do need to use their app to complete the set up process. The app also allows you to change some settings and select equalizer settings that work for you.
The switches have a nice feel to them. They do have raised areas designed to help you find the correct switch by feel. There are times however when I find that it is easier to adjust the volume using the phone or I remove the headphone to make a change. This is a very subjective items so you may not have the same issue. No stars were deducted for that reason.
These are an on ear device. It was not uncomfortable to me, but it did take some getting used to and here again...Personal preference comes into play. On a warm and humid day you may experience some sweating where the ear cup rides on your ear. That may allow for some movement / shifting of the headphone depending on what you are doing. They may thus not work out well for use doing exercising as an example.
The sound quality is great at this price point. I have Bose ear buds. The sound from this device is not Bose quality and you should not expect it to be Bose quality. It is good to very good however. The equalizer settings allow you to control all five typical equalizer settings PLUS a separate adjustment for th4 bass.
Paring was easy and fast. The connection remains stable most of the time. There is a selection that allows you to select either top quality sound or a more stable connection. I chose sound quality an the vast majority of the time the connection was stable with no noise present. There may be times however, that due to local conditions / interference you may have a little popping or very brief drop out. I have worn these headphones a LOT since they arrived and while I have experienced that, it was very limited. Now I also have a lot of electric / electronic devices in use on my property and that will may explain what I experienced. I did have some interference from some household devices when I wass very close to them.
The battery life seems to be very good. I have worn m for several hours and the voice system still indicates 100% at startup. Unlike my Bose products the battery monitoring system is not linear where it will call out 100%, 90%, 80%b etc... It may call out 100% until the battery hits 50% (As an example) and then te voice system will drop from stating 100% to 50%. I do not see that as an issue or negative given the very long stated by the manufacturer battery life, and I have no disagreement with their claims about battery life aty this point in time,
So again...Thus far I am very pleased with the fit, quality, and sound quality of these headphones. Do bed aware that tey are NOT noise cancelling. There will be some outside noise reduction dur to the ear cups of course.

I’ve been using these headphones for a few weeks now, and I’m thoroughly impressed. The sound quality is outstanding, with rich bass, clear mids, and crisp highs. Whether I’m listening to music, watching movies, or taking calls, the audio is consistently clear and immersive.
Comfort is another major plus — the ear cushions are soft and don’t cause fatigue even after hours of use. The adjustable headband provides a secure yet gentle fit. Battery life has exceeded my expectations, easily lasting over 30 hours on a single charge.
Noise cancellation is very effective, blocking out background noise and letting me focus whether I’m working or relaxing. The build quality also feels premium and durable.
Overall, these headphones deliver great value for the price and I’d highly recommend them to anyone looking for reliable, high-quality audio gear.

I bought these to wear to the gym. I have Airpods but I tend to knock them out of my ear when I'm working out. These are amazing, especially at the price their offered for. The sound quality is great and gets loud. If you're next to someone at the gym or out in public, others can't hear what you're listening too even with it at max volume. They're easy to use, come with a simple app to track battery percentage and they don't die quickly. Very comfortable and won't slip even when running. I highly recommend these if you're looking for a budget friendly wireless headphone

Excellent sound and people hear me fine when talking on the phone. Not sure how that works so well, but it does. Excellent battery life. BT connectivity is simple.
We’re thrilled to hear you're enjoying the sound quality and battery life on your WH-CH520. That clear call quality you noticed is thanks to our Precise Voice Pickup technology, which uses high-quality microphones to isolate your voice during conversations. It’s great to know it’s working so well for you!
Thanks for being part of the Sony family.

These were a replacement for my other headphones that someone accidentally broke. These were less expensive and, to be honest, that’s why I got them. COMFORT: I wish they had a little more room at my ears. They don’t feel that secure when I move. Otherwise they are comfortable. SOUND: Not as nice as my JLabs- but very good for how I use them.
BATTERY: VERY IMPRESSED! The charge seems to last forever! DURABILITY: I am hard on headphones and I find these to withstand the test with flying colors! WOULD I BUY AGAIN?: I use headphones so so much! I am hard on them- so I would consider repurchasing! I love saving money and not sacrificing a ton on quality. While I like my JLabs better, I find these worth buying, decent quality,

Comfortable to wear. Good sound quality and battery life. Easily connects to my LG TV and PC. However the first pair failed after 3 weeks. Fortunately it was still within the Best Buy return period. I exchanged for another pair which is working ok. Hopefully the first pair was a one off.

I wanted a simple pair of headphones to use while doing homework and these ones were a great fit. the noise cancellation is good, i can control the bass. the battery seems to last a really long time. they’re comfortable to wear for a long period of time (hours). there’s only one thing i have to complain about and it’s that these don’t come with their own little case :(
We are pleased to hear that the WH-CH520 is delivering a comfortable fit and a seamless connection. It is wonderful to know that you are enjoying a great audio experience with these headphones!

These headphones have great quality of sound, when making a call the voice is so crisp and clear. They are so lightweight I forget I have them on. I love listening to music with them and the battery lasts up for days I will be purchasing my son a pair.
