This headphone does not cancel any noise. Like turn the noise cancelation off and compare to when it’s on. Nada. Nothing. None existent noise cancelation. Also very flimsy. You are better off getting cheaper, more sturdy headphones. I wanna return these but I travelled after getting them and it’s now past my 14 day return period so poop!

These do not come alive without playing through a decent equalizer. They are OK for light workouts (exercise) and definitely add to the overall listening experience, however they miss the bass output of higher priced models.

Once I got it paired with my laptop it’s been working great! I can easily attend my meetings as I work from home. This was a very good purchase and is a very good product.

Had an issue initially trying to pair with my tv. Sony’s directions aren’t the greatest. Make sure you hold the button down until you hear pairing with your chosen device

While the noise cancellation was pretty good I didn't find them comfortable for long gaming sessions. I ended up returning them after a few days.

    Good, but Room for Improvement

While very good, there is a lot of room for improvement with the Sony WH-CH700N Noise Cancelling headphones. The headphones seem to want to compete with more expensive options like the Sony 1000X Premium headphones or those from companies like Bose, but do come up a little short. The headphones are fairly lightweight, but also feel like they have a little less quality than competing headphones. Also, my headphones came with something loose or already broken off in the left earpiece; sounds like a small piece of plastic (like a broken tab) floating around, which I found quite annoying. The ear foam is comfortable, as is the padded head band, but the less-dense ear foam does reduce the amount of actual noise cancelling that occurs, and I found that I was still hearing a lot of ambient noise, especially with the added breach in the foam from my eyeglasses. Sound is actually pretty good, but lacks nice, deep bass by default, but can be adjusted with the app by changing the sound mode to one that includes more bass. The tradeoff with that is that you’re forced to change the mode from one where it focuses primarily on sound quality to one that focuses primarily on connection strength in order to adjust sound options. And unlike other Sony noise cancelling headphones like the 1000X models, the WH-CH700N only has 2 noise cancelling modes – on or off (the 1000X models include an “ambient” mode which picks up on outside noise & mixes it in digitally with the headphone sounds for situational awareness when walking, running, or biking). Would have liked to have seen the ambient option included, even if it wasn’t an automatic thing like it is with the 1000X where it detects what activity you’re doing & configures the noise cancelling level accordingly. There are multiple buttons on the headphones to control multiple aspects of the device, including play/pause, fast forward, and rewind with a single, multi-position jog button, NC on or off, and volume up/down. There is also a wired input in the event you want to connect directly to a headphone jack on your phone or on a plane. There is also a micro USB port for charging the headphones. Micro USB and “aux” cords are included in the box. Connection to the headphones is via standard Bluetooth pairing or auto config using NFC-enabled devices. The headphones boast a 35-hour play time, which is excellent for active noise cancelling headphones in this arena. You also get up to an hour of function with only 10 minutes of charge, which is nice if you forgot to charge the headphones & are about to head out on your commute. Bottom Line: The WH-CH700N is a decent, entry-level headphone if you’re looking to enter the noise cancelling arena, making active cancellation a bit more affordable. But the affordability does show in the construction, sound (without app manipulation), and features. Given the choice, I would opt to spend a little bit more money on one other higher Sony options.

Hard to beat active noise cancellation

Sony is a brand that's pretty well known for both high quality audio products and adding in way more bells and whistles than most other manufacturers. And I have to say these headphones follow both traditions. The headphones have pretty much everything you'd expect from high quality over the ear bluetooth headphones these days. A variety of bluetooth codecs, a jack to allow you to plug in a wired connection, impressively long battery life, built in controls, and so on. And they're all just as good as you'd expect from a premium brand. The headphones are lightweight and very comfortable to wear, though albeit they don't block out quite as much external noise as some when you're just wearing them on your head. They've also got support for NFC pairing, which allows you to just tap the headphones to a phone or other NFC enabled device to quickly pair them without needing to go through the usual menus. But let's face it, you probably already know all of this. The big feature is the active noise cancellation. And these headphones are exemplary in that department. The key thing that sets this apart is that unlike most noise cancelling headphones which merely have an on/off switch, there are a lot of different ways to configure the noise cancellation system on these. Holding down the noise cancellation button will switch it between the standard mode and an AI assisted version which will listen to the sounds around you try to pick out which ones it should focus on to achieve the best results. I can't say that the difference between the two is hugely noticeable, but there is a difference and the tech does seem to work pretty well. Unfortunately I haven't had the opportunity to test it on an airplane yet, but I have tried it out in environments such as a busy hospital, the backseat of a car, and a datacenter filled with very noisy server racks. And while it did seem that it took the AI mode a little time to acclimate to the environment, the difference between having the headphones on and having them off was really quite striking. Not only that, but I was still able to clearly hear the voices of people trying to talk to me through the noise cancellation, something that immediately makes me like these a lot more than some of the headphones I've tried which block out audio through less high tech means. And if that's not enough, the headphones come with an app which will let you fine-tune the performance of the headphones yourself to get the exact settings you want. While I'll freely admit that I'm nowhere near knowledgeable to use this particular feature fully, the app is fairly easy to work with and even I was able to work out roughly how to tweak the settings to optimize my listening experience for music or movies. I think the best example of how good this can work is when I let a friend of mine with some issues hearing try them out, as she hadn't ever really seen the point in investing in noise cancelling headphones. Not only did she discover that the noise cancelling was a lot more effective than she'd expected, but she was able to get it set to the point where she was actually able to clearly watch a TV show without needing to have the subtitles on! It's frankly a little hard to say more than that. Yes, there are a few flaws associated with the tech. Noise cancellation does tend to produce a slight but noticeable background static, for instance, which can have a noticeable effect on the overall clarity of the audio you're listening to. The maximum volume was a bit lower than I expected and I'm a little disappointed that the headphones didn't come with some kind of carrying case or longer cables for charging or using a cabled connection. But I can't say that these are issues that are in any way dealbreakers. Quite simply, these headphones work so well that I'd be willing to overlook far greater flaws if I could find any!

Got these on the black Friday sale. The Bose were $100 more and didn't make sense to pay more. I'm happy with the purchase and used $50 to purchase the small Bose soundsport, great prices.

I would give these headphones a rating of 6, on a scale of 1 to 10. Their good but not great. These were the best suited for my 6 mile walks, and so far they have been waterproof.
