My husband bought these so he can turn the tv up loud when the rest of the house is asleep. They work perfect. As soon as you take them off the headphone stand the tv automatically switches to the headphones. If they stay on the headphone stand the audio comes from the TV. We have had no issues with it.

Sony's Decent Surround Headphones For Movies

Dolby Digital, Dolby Prologic II X, & DTS -- that's it. Yet, it's very solid at decoding these formats, and the unit has an outstanding price.
Would I like to hear newer decoding formats, such as Dolby Atmos or DTS X? Yes, but the unit would cost upward of $500, and have to over come many technical challenges. So, just enjoy Sony's decent unit. P.S., sound effects are designed for newer movies/programs, so please use Audio Quest Cables for optimal sound!.

I wanted to like these. I had them for about a week. They work fine, but it really doesn't get that loud. And then I saw that BB's price dropped these headphones $50 lower than what I paid for them. BB wouldn't price match (what? lol!??!) so I returned them and I'm gonna try the RS 175's which I believe get much louder.

Great Sounding Sounding But Lacking Inputs

Before I get to any negatives I want to say that I love how these headphones sounds. I honestly was not expecting much more than a pair of wireless headphones with which to watch movies and I was surprised on how comfortable they were and how three dimensional the sound was.
My wife and I recently had a new baby so often times I cannot watch movies at loud volumes. So I have had to change my habits when watching movies. These headphones have been great in being able to have the loud explosions and sounds without having to wake up the baby.
The headphones are extremely comfortable and very easy to use for long periods of time, I was easily able to sit and watch a whole movie and not even think about the fact that I had headphones on.
Even though the headphones sound great and are easy to use they do have some issues.
My first issue with them is the connection option you are limited to a 3.5mm input one optical input and an ARC Hdmi out. now the last one is very important. If these headphones are the only thing you will be using with any of your components than the arc input helps out but does limit you to whatever audio signal can pass along.
If you are like me that has a sound bar connected to ARC because you have more components than your sound bar can handle then you have an issue the ARC input is useless to me. I think this could have been handled better if they had one HDMI input and the HDMI out the could handle ARC or pass through and HDMI signal.
Some of the newer 4K players do not have optical outputs so this makes you rely more on the ARC feature on your tv rather than if you had an HDMI input. Almost all 4K players have dual HDMI out with one dedicated to audio.
Input issue aside my other big gripe is the Sound settings or sound processing you can add. There are 4 total sound modes Cinema, Game, Voice or standard (no added processing). The problem is the unit is made to handle surround sound audio so when receiving a 5.1 or higher sound it is already giving you a surround type sound in the headphones and the additional modes just add extra processing and frankly make them sound weird.
when watching movies the cinema mode makes voices sound odd and drowns out and ambient or side noise. the voice mode also has somewhat of a similiar effect. Game mode when playing games seems to take the bass to 11 but that seems to be it.
I found it to be a much better experience just using standard mode without any of that added processing.
If your in the market for some headphone to watch movies these are great with some caveats and some issues in regard to connecting your devices to it.
