To either have more base or vocals. Or to have it sound like an indoor or outdoor concert. You can cover one side and it’ll turn down the volume to allow outside noise. Love.

The 700’s met my needs except for 2 glaring issues. I had to take one ear off to talk to or hear anyone else (expected). The second issue was that anytime air would blow over the headphones (like from the little air-vent on the plane or an open car window), the noise cancelling would freak out and make a loud, jarring hissing noise. Tried the Sony - WH-XB900N‘s that a friend had and they ere excellent! You can simply hold your hand over the right ear cup and the sound stops so you can hear and talk to someone next to you. Rolled the window down and the noise cancelling did not freak out. Even though I do not like too much base, the Sony headphone app allows you to dial it way back. Glad I was able to try these - definitely worth the difference in price over they 700’s.
