Customers praise the Wi-Fi Bluetooth Remote with Shooting Grip for its ease of use, compatibility with various cameras, and its convenient tripod functionality. Many appreciate its compact size and the ability to adjust shooting angles. However, some customers express concerns regarding the battery life and the relatively high price point. The replaceable battery, rather than a rechargeable one, is a common point of criticism.

I really like this Sony shooting grip and remote. It is a great accessory if you have a compatible camera. I have been able to use it in several ways, for several things, and it has not only made getting shots easier, it has made them better. The grip is matte black plastic, not metal, but is put together well and feels both solid and great in the hand. Still, it is lightweight and compact, which makes it great to stow away in your bag. It is dust and moisture resistant, which is appreciated (if only my camera were lol). All of the buttons feel solid, have good motion and are well-placed. Tilt for angles, flip control, and “tripod legs” all move smoothly and lock in solidly. I just really like the build, the set-up, and the lack of wires…really no complaints. In use, it is much of the same. Once you add the included battery, pairing via Bluetooth and set-up is quite easy. Then you are off. While there are quite a few button functions available, it is not overwhelming. I like that. Take pictures. Take videos. Zoom in/out. Lock it down. The standard C1 customizable button. Tilt. Flip. The essentials. Simple. Effective. I have really enjoyed taking it out, grabbing some pictures and videos around town. It is comfortable to hold. Not simple, but so important. Somewhat unexpectedly, I have also been using the grip as a tripod quite a bit for some close-up work and some landscape/night/sky/slow motion shots and video. I am pretty new to the camera game, so I guess I never realized how much I would use a tripod. It has worked well for me. You can also use it as just a remote while not connected to the grip, but I haven’t really found a use for that yet. To sum it up, it is easy use, it does several things, and it does them well. If I were forced to find some issues with the grip, they would be minor, and honestly, they are not really issues at all. First, it is not a true gimbal, so there is no stabilization. It doesn’t claim to be, and it is not priced as such, but as someone new to the game, it is something to learn and know. Lastly, the battery…or more so not knowing its status. I have not had a long enough history to know their burn rate, and while they are cheap, the issue is (unless I am just missing it) there is no indicator. Perhaps it ends up being nothing, but just something to think about. Just grab a couple of spares and toss them in your bag. Perhaps chargeable was a better option? Ultimately, I like what Sony has done here. While I am still learning, I found the grip easy to pick up, both literally and figuratively. It has helped me to both improve my results as well as just get more out of my camera. I am happy and I think the value is there for what you get.

The Sony Shooting grip with Wireless Remote does exactly what its supposed to, be a perfect compliment to an already great camera. The setup of this unit took less than 2 minutes and has operated smoothly since. The functions are simple but user friendly. There's a basic photo and movie button and then a custom function command that is useful for switching focusing modes on the fly. The unit itself is lightweight but sturdy enough to handle the weight of the camera easily. I like how the grip doesn't just flop over when you unscrew the right side. You have to physically push the left side button in after unscrewing in order to adjust the angle. That makes me feel like the camera will hold its place and will be stable throughout. The photo button works well but is slightly touchy in terms of wanting to just focus instead of shoot. I do like the fact that it also doubles as a mini tripod. Anyone who does blogging or does any kind of video reviews will find this VERY handy. I am planning on using it to do product reviews and it will be very beneficial. The one slight I will say is if you're looking for this to be an alternative to a DJI Ronin it is not the same product. For someone moving forward and backward and side to side it works fine. But if you like to pan from top to bottom or left to right without moving everything is manual and wouldn't be feasible to do by hand. But all in all I really cant recommend this grip enough. If you were planning on using this camera for video its a no brainer. Even if you aren't a big video guy this is probably one of the best accessory for a camera system I've seen in a while. Well done Sony!

This is a very useful accessory for our new Sony Mirrorless Camera. It’s also one of the most affordable genuine Sony Accessories for the camera that you can buy. It is made of a nice stable heavy quality material. The fact that it can also be used as a small tripod is great for packing away in the backpack with the camera when you don’t want to go full gear on an outing but still be able to steady a shot on a tripod. Easy to hold and use as a grip, wireless remote that you pair with Bluetooth to the camera. It also rotates 180° to take selfies and adjusts to multiple angles. Changing the zoom and taking photos direct from this grip are two other great features. It’s really that third hand you always need and never have!

As the newest camera accessory from Sony, the GP-VPT2BT shooting grip with wireless remote control hopes to expand your shooting capabilities and further enhance your camera experience. In addition, not only can you control your camera via Bluetooth, the GP-VPT2BT also acts as a stand, allowing further expansion in your shooting creativity. As such, I was excited to see how the GP-VPT2BT accompanies my newly acquired Sony a6100. Upon opening up the box, you will receive the main shooting grip as well as a storage bag. In addition, the remote uses a standard watch battery (CR2032) and is included for your convenience. Lastly, there is a quick start guide included, though there is a full manual that you can find on the Sony website. As for installation, the process was fairly straight forward. To attach your camera, instead of manually screwing the stand into the camera, you place your camera on the screw and simultaneously secure the camera down by rotating the wheel directly below the screw. I was pleasantly surprised how quickly it was able to grab the camera and lock it into place. Furthermore, it is extremely sturdy and has a nice feel to it. Once your camera is attached (with the remote buttons facing you), you will notice just directly under the screw adjustment wheel, there is a rectangle button that allows you to swivel the camera side to side. Additionally, on the left there is a circular button that will allow you position the camera forward or back towards you, with an accompanying adjustment wheel on the right that will make it easier for that adjustment to maneuver. For the most part, the GP-VPT2BT was fairly straight forward to set up and I did not have any issues. Once you have completed the physical installation, and the included watch battery was installed in the back of the remote, your camera must now be paired via Bluetooth. On my Sony 6100, I went to the main menu and clicked on network settings. From there, I went to the second page and turned on Bluetooth. Once that was done, I then clicked on the pairing option to set the camera ready to receive the transmission. On the remote, you will then need to hold the photo button and the top part of the zoom switch for a few seconds. Afterwards, the camera will prompt you to allow the pairing of the GP-VPT2BT. Once accepted, I then had to turn on the Bluetooth Remote Control option on my 6100 to allow the buttons on the remote to work. Once finished, I could take photos and record video using the remote, regardless if the camera was attached to the stand. I did not have any issues and all the buttons were extremely responsive. While I was taking various photos throughout our house, I was pleasantly surprised at how mobile the stand made my camera feel. I was able to capture different photos at varying angles that normally would have been quite difficult. In addition, this would definitely help in places where you would need to raise your camera up in order to capture photos such as in large crowds or concerts In that situation, the ability to zoom immediately with your thumb would prove extremely useful. You may also use the grip as tri-pod stand which I found extremely useful, especially if you need take delayed shots such as family portraits. It may also prove useful for capturing various videos such as instructional or blog videos. Given the compact nature of the GP-VPT2BT, the grip will be extremely useful if you wanted to get creative in various shot such as nature, self-portraits, or the ability to record long video clips with one hand. Overall, most will be pleased with the GP-VPT2BT. In conclusion, the Sony GP-VPT2BT shooting grip with wireless remote works extremely well. I did not have any installation issues or any difficulty pairing my Sony a6100. Once attached, the shooting grip allowed me to shoot various angles without difficulty. In addition, shooting video was also facilitated by the grip as I did not have to hold the camera with two hands to record. Lastly, the ability to fold out into a tri-pod is also a huge plus, as you now have essentially two accessories in one. The tri-pod will certainly make taking portraits and videos even easier. As far as value, I believe my expectations were met as it accomplishes everything it was designed to do. Overall, the grip and stand works as intended and should please everyone who decides to invest in one. Thus, the Sony GP-VPT2BT shooting grip with wireless remote come recommended.

I purchased the Sony Alpha 6100 camera about a month ago. I have been having a great time with it but felt that something was missing. Last week, I took a trip. I shot about a thousand photos and a dozen or so videos. There were a few instances where I wanted to take some low light photos. One was a night shot of a cruise ship. I needed a tripod but only had a table and a cruddy $10 flexible mini tripod. There is a reason why it is spends more time in my bag then anywhere else. I found it difficult to keep the camera steady using the cheap tripod. The image turned out awful. I knew that Sony made a shooting grip but never gave it much thought. I used my camera a lot during this trip for both stills and video. Mostly, I found myself using my Sony Alpha like most people use a Go Pro; minus the extreme sports. The more I used the camera, the more I imagined how much easier it would be to operate the camera with the matching shooting grip. When I returned home, I decided to invest in Sony’s GP-VPT2BT Bluetooth enabled shooting grip. I loved it from the first moment I attached it to my camera. No joking. I loved how the grip felt in my hand and, in extension, how the camera felt on the shooting grip! The tripod opened with little effort. It collapses into a handle in a second. Setup? It took about a minute to go from Box to camera. It is that easy to install. If you can turn a screw you can attached this tripod. There is a CR2032 lithium cell battery that installs into the grip. This supplies the power for the remote camera functions. The shooting grip also comes with a nylon storage bag. Bluetooth setup took about 30 seconds. Everything just works after that. The grip is comfortable. I can easily operate the camera with a single hand. The handle allows you to snap stills, use the zoom capabilities of your lens if it is supported, start and stop video recordings, and activate the Auto focus functions. The grip also has a lock switch so that you can deactivate all of the grip’s functions. This prevents accidently activating any functions while you manipulate the camera on the grip. I was a little confused with the C1 button. It activates the Alpha’s auto focus settings. The button allowed me to activate the auto focus menu items, but I still had to use the Alpha’s directional pad to navigate to the auto focus function I wanted to use. I was expecting the zoom rocker button to double as a navigation switch for any vertical organized menus. Not in this case. The photo grip has two mechanical buttons that allow you to unlock, position, and then lock the camera into positions along both the X and Y axis. You can do this either in tripod mode or grip mode. The buttons move easily. There are stops built into each axis that will catch the camera. For example, the X-axis controls the direction the camera is facing along the horizontal axis while it is sitting on a table. Pressing the button at the base of the camera allows the camera to swing the 360 degrees in either direction. If you release the button, then the camera will automatically lock at 45 degrees. There are a total of four stops along the X-axis. You get a similar behavior along the Y-axis. The difference is that the stops are much closer together. The tripod legs slip out smoothly. There is enough tension in the legs to allow for a controlled extension and retraction. You will need two hands to extend the legs. The bottom of each leg is rubberized. I have had zero issues with camera motion once setup. It is a very stable design. The grip’s control pad buttons are fully accessible and easy to use in this mode. I also have full access to all the camera’s functions. I love that I can swing out the Alpha’s LCD screen to allow a more comfortable viewing angle for my shots in both tripod and shooting grip modes. The camera grip is also very stable when walking around with my camera. I have had tripods in the past that allow the camera to move around on the camera attachment. I have also been in situations where I had to level the tripod around the camera attachment instead of the other way around. The attachment is tight against the camera body with zero play. I love this. I also love that I can hold the camera level with my chest and snap photos and videos with little to no effort. All I do is pull out the Alpha’s LCD to a comfortable viewing position and start shooting. I was excited by the Alpha’s ability to shoot 4K video but not so excited that I had to hold it up near my face to get the shots I wanted. The photo grip turns my Alpha into a stable camcorder! I find this superior over my older Sony camcorder because I do not have to fight with the annoying, uncomfortable hand strap that stabilizes my camcorder to my hand. My auto stabilizing lens makes sure my videos are shake free. I have two gripes about this grip. First, the limited functionality of the C1 button. Why? Second, the battery. I do not understand why Sony opted for a replaceable battery over a rechargeable one. Maybe it had to do with weight, expense, or some other reason. I would have liked to see rechargeable. I do not know how long these batteries will last. I do know that replacing the CR2032 can be expensive. The good news is that the shooting grip will function as a trip and a tripod without the control panel. So, loosing power does not mean the end of your photo journey. I love this grip. I cannot believe I picked up Sony’s Alpha without the shooting grip. I won’t make that mistake again. It is worth the extra investment to me. I just wish I picked one up before my trip.

This is a versatile, reliable and wireless Bluetooth shooting grip and tripod, ideal for many different types of content creation ranging from vlogs to travel to simple everyday use. It is very easy to setup, pairs up with the song camera very easily. There is a button to quickly change from normal to selfie mode. The presence of an indicator for battery status is very helpful. I was able to use the tripod for almost about a day on full charge. There’s also a “flip” button that allows you to rotate the camera 180° without removing it from the 1/4″-20 attachment, and the grip portion can be expanded to function as a tabletop tripod. The grip communicates with compatible Sony cameras using Bluetooth, and it features a dust and moisture “resistant” design that should stand up to some light abuse, but is not dust and moisture “proof.” It is definitely a bit pricey, but is a very comfortable and easy to use tripod/grip. I would definitely recommend this to anyone.

The new Sony shooting grip is something needed for a mirrorless camera. I finally feel more comfortable handling such an expensive camera (Sony a6100) with more grip. This will be the perfect combo for the person who takes all those cruise ship vacations who goes on excursions to see museums, places of interest, etc. because now you can hold your camera a little higher and reach over to see. This is my plan but wasn’t going on a trip yet before this review. The “command” features are awesome. You control the camera via Bluetooth with the shooting grip. A great idea to try to keep your camera steady and having it up in the air or different places then normal and you don’t have to touch the camera only the shooting stick. The tripod is the awesome hidden feature. Steady and well built I can easily see anyone popping out the legs and getting a group shot without having to ask that stranger on the street. If you have the Sony A6100 or one of the other supported models, this is a must. Almost should be included with your purchase.

I'm using the GP-VPT2BT with the A6100 camera. This is a handy remote grip to have particularly if you are into shooting video. It's usefulness for photos is really kinda limited to being nothing more than a small tripod. There is a photo shutter button, but on a tripod for stills this really isn't needed. But for videos, you have a handy grip for vlogs. It makes holding the camera steady for videos much easier. Aside from the photo shutter button and the record button, you also have a lock and a zoom control. The zoom control is nice. Makes zooming while shooting video much more stable. But keep in mind that the zoom control will only work with a power zoom lens. The entire unit feels sturdy enough, but I do wish there was a rubberized grip or something to hold. The plastic does have a texture to it, but it is not very grippy. Bluetooth connection to my A6100 is very simple and I haven't had any issues with it disconnecting. If you have a compatible Sony camera and you shoot video, I would highly suggest it. But if you only shoot still photos, it really isn't worth it. But overall it works great and I will probably use it often.

The Sony - Shooting Grip with Wireless Remote Commander has integrated controls within the handle. A Photo button (can be held halfway down to focus) a video button, a Custom 1 recall button, a control lock toggle and a rocker switch to zoom in and out, for lenses equipped with a power zoom. I did notice the zoom control was not a refined or incremental as using the on lens zoom control on my Sony a6100 camera (with kit lens). At times the zoom function frustrated me. In any case the handle is substantial feeling and can also act as a camera tripod (perhaps not if you have a bulky lens attached). In any case I found the shooting grip comes in handy. The handle connects via Bluetooth to your Sony camera, I had some issues with the initial connection but noticed I had remote set to off on my camera even though the Bluetooth was on. Once connected I did not have any issues. The grip wakes up on its on when picked up. The unit is powered by a 2032 watch battery which I found odd. There was also no battery indicator, so when the battery is dead, you are out of luck if you don’t have a spare. Perhaps a small lithium ion rechargeable would have been a better choice. Using this to vlog is probably the best use case for the Sony grip. Frankly I would have liked some stabilization features. I would rather use a gimble, but this is better than hand holding your camera while trying to self video/vlog. Pros: - Sturdy, substantial feel - good for larger hands - button releases for horizontal and vertical swivels - remote buttons for zoom, photo, video, lock and C1 Cons: - jumpy zoom rocker switch, no real zoom step control - powered by a 2032 Watch battery - does not yield as steady video as I would have liked.

My first impressions of the Sony Shooting grip as I unpacked it is that it’s is well made. its sturdy and has a comfortable to grip in both left and right hand; the buttons are easily accessible in either hand. The tips of the legs are rubber to prevent slipping and scratching up surfaces, nice detail. Press a button on the left side and you can pivot the camera back and fourth, a button on front aloows you to swivel cameral left and right 360 degrees. I used this shooting grip with my Sony 6100, it was simple to setup to the camera. Simply Insert the CR2032 button in to the battery compartment on the handle, turn on the camera and in the menu, go to “Network 2”, “Bluetooth Rmt Ctrl”. The grip has buttons to take photos, videos, zoom in and out, and there’s a custom button. I can see it being useful for a vlogger, taking selfies or take with you on vacation. It may have come in handy last Summer in England. During the changing of the guards, tourists on top of tourists, each vying for a photo/video of the guard ceremony! An extra reach of approximately 6” may have been good. Overall, if this is what you’re looking for, a small tripod that you sit on a table to take videos and a very good shooting grip, then this is the one you want.
