These connected easily, have good battery life and really deliver on sound quality including bass. All of the benefits of the popular names at half to a third of the cost. I work out in them and they stay in place even when running or doing plyometrics. Very satisfied with them.

I purchased these headphones so I can exercise and listen to music without a card. The sound quality is excellent which I expected nothing less from Sony. I have only had these head phones for two days but they are performing well I would only recommend if you have a big neck like me you have to be careful because its made for small neck people.

In the box is the Sony Wireless Headphones, 3 extra sets of Silicone Rubber Earbuds, 2 extra sets of arc supporters, Micro USB charging cable, and a reference guide. They are packaged well and the headphones are secured in place with some plastic and foam material for protection. Once I got them out I connected them to my laptop's 3.0 USB port to charge them. A red indicator light comes on to let you know they are charging. It took about an hour to fully charge them. Pairing was very easy. You just go into the Bluetooth settings of the device you want to connect the headphones to and turn on Bluetooth. Then press the power button on the headphones down until it flashes red and blue quickly. Then on your device you should see the XB50BS's in the available devices. Click it to pair and thats it. Once its paired the headphones LED will now flash blue every few seconds indicating it is connected. Thats it for connecting. This was with my new Oneplus 3T phone. Once paired the headphones have easy controls. The power button on the right one is also the play and pause button. Directly behind that is the volume rocker. In addition to controlling the volume this is also how you skip tracks. Press either (+ or –) for 2 seconds to go to next or previous track. The sound was not what I expected. What I mean is that I read that these were more bass heavy than others. I expected it to be overwhelming Bass without proper mids, highs, and vocals. Well for me this was not the case. They had a great balance of all. Nice tight bass which is what I prefer over Bass that drowns out all other sounds. And this does this very well. Vocals are clear with great overall sound. I also tested call controls. During a call it pauses music, then resumes as soon as the call is ended which can be done by tapping the power button to answer and end calls. The fit was perfect for me with the pre-installed buds and arc supports. I didn't need to swap them out. They stayed in place without moving around or falling out. I didn't have any discomfort, so I might just stay with the buds and arc supports that are on them now. Overall this is a great set of wireless headphones. The controls are simple, they sound good, and are rated to have 8 ½ hours of battery which should get anyone through a normal days use. I originally wasn't sure how well this type of headphones would work wirelessly but it has won me over. Its nice not having to deal with a cord getting in the way. Great choice for your headphone needs.

Very Good Sound - Balanced But Not Extra Bass

Most bluetooth stereo earpieces I see have earbuds attached to a bulky and annoying unit that rests around the neck. For these Sony earpieces, the business end is an extension of the earbud itself - and though it looks a little bulky it is extremely light. They sound very nice - with crisp highs and balanced (though not booming) bass. The set comes with various sizes of ear clips and rubber earbud covers and it’s worth noting that you need use the right size earbud cover for your ears - if the units fit loosely in your ears then you will lose a lot of the bass response from the headset. The cord is long enough to traverse the back of your head but not so long that it droops - I don’t foresee it getting in my way or snagging in anything I’m around. And the cord is strong and not stretchy - it will still be the weakest point of this entire unit but it’s built for some abuse. The power and volume controls are small because the ear units are small - but even with medium-large hands I have no problem navigating the buttons. The bluetooth connection works well with my phone - and with other devices the signal is sufficiently strong that I can walk around the house without any interruptions.

You don't have to pay 200 bucks to get great sound from wireless earbuds. The ear pieces feel tight and secure, the "mini-speakers" deliver just the right amount of bass.

The adhesive failed on the panel that holds this together (see picture). They kept coming apart at random. This in turn caused the small red wires to fray so that there is no longer any sound on the one side. I called Sony customer service at 1-888-222-7669 and they told me this was somehow my fault for "misuse" of the headphones! All I did was place them in my ears and take them out. Hardly a "misuse"! The Sony rep said something about how the percentage of people reporting this issue somehow meant that it was a "misuse". What a joke! I'll never buy Sony again.

Pros: High quality of sound Powerful bass Long battery life Affordable price Light-weight Cons: Poor design (Not cutting-edge nor good-looking. It doesn't have to look cheap not being a flagship product) Coarse texture and crudely made (looked like a counterfeit knockoff when I first saw and felt it, see those gaps between the parts) Bottomline: Yes, I would recommend it.

I've had eight sets of headphones since I got my first iPod Touch in '09, and two of those have now been Bluetooth. These XB50BS phones are all you'll need for gym, Starbucks, running, work, anything, and here's why. The standard is the latest Bluetooth 4.1 w/ 12mm drivers and 4 - 24,000 Hz range. That's immense. The bass is the strongest I've heard on any Bluetooth device and are even lower than some corded sets. They're comparable to the newer Apple headphones for lows, so they definitely have that extra baseline. I can still hear trebles and highs, so the range isn't skewed to the low end. Granted, it's Bluetooth so when you have them paired and not listening to something, you're going to hear a little feedback from the receiver picking up the signal. When these get paired, turned on, or in sync mode, a female voice will call over telling you what stage you're in. These is convenient as my last Sony set only made beeps at different lengths. I don't believe there's a language feature for this, so it defaults as English. The buttons are on the right side's posterior edge. There's 3 buttons; one is for power/pause/pairing/call receiving. The two other buttons are for track skipping and volume control. Holding down the button for 2 seconds allows you to skip a track, pushing it repeatedly (or once) changes the volume. Obviously these are <- and ->. This is pretty standard, but I did notice I cannot "scrub" a track, i.e. fast forward/rewind during playback. The sides are soft vinyl, and the charging port is also located on the right side. The ear pieces are becoming even more complex these days. You have SS, S, M, L for silicone nipples, and this set also has two different silicone inserts for pseudo intra-aural stability. They take some used to placing in the ear, but they keep the buds from spinning. This set is the most noninvasive I've had seeing as it's a chord and two earpieces that are relatively innocuous. So you won't have to worry about "popping" the buds out of your ears with the chord inadvertently. Also, because they're silicone buds, ambient sounds go waaaaaay down. I can listen to them in crowded rooms as they phase out a ton of side conversations, even on lower volumes. I haven't tested for battery life or water resilience, but it's raining right now and they're doing fine. You can't douse them in the pool. Battery life is rated for 8.5 hours, but I never listen to music for that length of time. This set does not come with a nice little polyester pouch to carry them in, and the micro USB charging cable is two feet long. You need your own comp. or USB wall plug to charge them. Sony has so many headphones in circulation that they're trimming the fat on accessories. I earnestly recommend this set right now. Not only are they an improvement on later models, they're just about everything you'd look for in a convenient package. Great audio, easy interface, physical stability, innocuous, relatively rugged, and of course affordable. Pairing with my Gen V iPod Touch took six seconds. Highly, highly recommended. Note: I've had these for a month now an I feel nearly the same about them. One note, the chord does catch on the collar of polos and jackets. Also, when switching between paired devices, you usually have to switch manually. It's not a full on re-sync, but it doesn't auto-connect like they would if you just turned them off and back on. Otherwise, excellent quality and worth every cent, but I managed to get mine for 20 bones after sale price, post holiday bump, and BB points!!!!!

Let me start by saying that I've used a lot of headphones over the past couple of years for travel, quiet listening, and most importantly while exercising. A couple of headphones that I've used in the past include: 1. Sennheiser PX-100 II (Used to be my go-to headphones during travel due to their portability) 2. Sennheiser OCX 685i Sports in-ear headphones (Used to be the headphones I use during workouts) 3. Audio Technica ATH-M50x (Brilliant reference headphones for quiet listening sessions) 4. SOL Republic Tracks (The best bass heavy pair of headphones I owned that just made me enjoy music by giving an in-the-club feeling) 5. Sony MDR-AS800AP Active Sports headphones (I tried these based on the Wirecutter review and can surely say that they replaced the Sennheiser OCX 685i as my go-to sports and workout headphones) The Sony MDR-AS800AP became my favorite pair overall because they were in-ear, easy to carry, had the most amazing sound profile with good bass, slightly recessed mids, and good treble - essentially a slight V sound profile that I like and helps me keep pumping during workouts. Unfortunately, my brother took those from me which is when my search for the next best pair started. I wanted to try various bluetooth headphones but didn't want another piece of hardware to charge regularly on top of my phone, smartwatch, tablet, Surface etc. However, based on my need and after reading many reviews I finally bit the bullet and tried the JayBird X2 Sport Wireless Headphones and the JLab Audio Epic 2 Wireless headphones. I was hugely disappointed by both of them, coming from the Sonys. The JayBird X2's had a very sharp V sound profile and were not loud enough with no mid-bass at all that balanced the sound out. On the other hand, the JLab Epic 2 had a decent sound profile but was marred by the continuous disconnection and skipping of tracks even when my phone (Samsung Galaxy S7) was in my pocket. I felt as if the jump to bluetooth headphones wasn't warranted right now. I checked on the Sony website and found that they had released 3 new pairs of bluetooth headphones: MDR-XB50BS, MDR-XB80BS, and the MDR-XB70BT. I might be the probable first customer on Amazon to have ordered these headphones and had high hopes for them based on my previous experience with Sony Sport headphones. And boy - did they deliver! These bluetooth headphones are fantastic, to say the least. Their sound profile is similar (and maybe a tad better) than the MDR-AS800AP. The extra bass feature is actually there and delivers oodles of oomph, maybe even more so than the AS800AP. It's definitely a V sound profile but I listened to a few vocal tracks and found nothing to complain of. The treble and bass shine while not sacrificing the mids at all. These are definitely going to help me go that extra length during my workouts. Also, I tested the connectivity on these and it's nowhere like the JLab Epic 2's. I roamed about in my apartment and there was no skipping or stuttering of music. Voice calls were clear and loud too with the person on the other side not finding anything to complain about the quality of my voice. The headphones come with 4 pairs of earbuds and 3 arc supporters to help find the perfect fit and unlike the behind-the-ear type of sport headphones (which tend to dislodge the earbud from the ear canal and therefore have to be readjusted every few minutes), stay put even while running, jumping rope, doing push-ups, or bench presses. They are comfortable and I wore them for 3-4 hours straight without any discomfort. I would be conducting some battery run-time tests soon but for now, I must say - Sony has once again blown me over with this product. It sounds wonderful, is comfortable, fits well in the ear, has amazing clarity for voice calls, has a good bluetooth connectivity range and has totally changed my outlook on good wireless, sport headphones. I would recommend them whole-heartedly to anyone who is looking for a great pair of wireless sport headphones.

Had these for little over a month so far. Love em!!! Coming from a set a backbeat 2s, these are several steps above!! I use these for workingout (weight lifting and cardio). They fit perfectly in the ears. Do not fall out!! Backbeats were constantly falling out. The buds seal nicely in ear canal! For wireless earbuds, the bass is phenomenal! Battery life is as advertised for mine. My workouts last 1-1.5 hours, five days a week. I charge them after about 6-7 days. My only complaint is that when the earbuds on in, the wire that connects them is constantly gathering to one side or the other. This is just annoying, as it does not pull the buds out, just feel it tighten when I turn my head and I have to reach back and fix the wire. I read several reviews about the power button coming off. I have not had this problem. Button seems to be well made. I do keep mine in a hard case when not in use tho. Not just thrown in a gym bag. I caught the first set I purchased on sale on bestbuy for $39. DEFINITELY worth that price!!!! But after my wife saw them, she wanted a set, but had to pay regular price this time, at $59. Still worth every penny!! Still considerably less expensive than most wireless earbuds. The former Plantronics I had lasted Several Years (7+!). Can only hope the Sonys out do them!!! So far so good in quality and sound!!!

    Best wireless ear buds ever!

I have been shopping around for about a year for wireless "ear buds", not just any headphones, ear buds specifically. I have a pair of Sony over the ear headphones that I've been using for about 4 years and they're still going strong, I love them but they're so big sometimes it's hard to do certain exercises. So I wanted ear buds. These ear buds stay in my ears so well, they never get loose, I never have to readjust them, they are awesome! And the sound, Wowza! I never have to turn it up too much, it's very loud and drowns out surrounding sounds well also, the bass is insane! They hold a great charge! I'll charge them for maybe 2 hrs and I'll go to the gym for maybe 2 hrs, 3-4 times a week and I have yet to charge them again since the first time I charged them, which was about 3 weeks ago. So I wonder how much longer the charge will last.

I purchased the Sony headphones with a slight discount and they have not disappointed. The positives: not overly loud and suprisingly noise isolating but a punchy Bass , more in-ear with little hooks that may or may not secure in ears, wire that dangles between earphones is fairly long and fits well for physical activity such as running, and it actually has a strong battery— about 6 hours of continuous play on full charge. The Negatives: build is not the best and I can see them accidentally getting crushed or damaged in a squeezed bag, the comfort is okay but not optimal, the hooks to secure headphones are plastic and thus will get cold or hot depending on your location and activity level. I would highly reccomend them if you’re looking for solid fitness Bluetooth headphones under $100. If you can spare another $150, go ahead and splurge on the brand name but they aren’t significantly better (either in performance and comfort).
