    Great Speaker for Large Events

If you are looking for a loud speaker with booming bass, you should purchase this speaker. KNOW, that this is not a speaker built for small single person listening while you're in your room, this speaker is made for parties and large events. The bass is impeccable and the sound quality is 9/10 for the size of the speaker. Great job Sony!

This is a fantastic system. The sound will carry across a large area - deep, rich bass sounds. Bluetooth works very well. I recommend this for any backyard party or general large area.

Use an Equalizer to REALLY bring the sound out

Excellent product, well built. Don't expect it to hit sub frequencies, but you can expect a lot of bass. Good bass. I reduced the mid-range frequencies on this speaker after I set the default EQ to FLAT. I use an external EQ on my smartphone, and it absolutely helps TREMENDOUSLY. You can get this box to sound however you want it to, it loves to be equalized. It has built in Maximization with Extra-Bass enabled, so reducing some of the unwanted frequencies cleans up the sound 10 fold. Awesome product Sony, it really brings me back to the 90's with an added touch of modernization. Did I forget to mention? This thing shakes the house!

Wow! this is the one and only speaker you need!

Hi Everyone. We just bought this yesterday and spent the good part of the evening playing with it and because of my pleasant experience i felt compelled to write a review. My first impressions of this new speaker were, "Wow! This is some really rich, full, clear sound" and it doesn't distort at higher levels. First off the speaker has very good clean sound and is very easy to setup. The bass is very good. It hits all but the lowest of bass notes and sounds very good doing it. When describing the sound coming out of this speaker I think you really need to compare it to a wedding dj or something to that effect. This speaker has a wall of sound that can fill an entire house or a large banquet hall room. This speaker is overkill for a bedroom size room . But don't let that stop you from buying it because it's still gonna sound incredible. The volume level out of this speaker we've experienced changes based on the bluetooth phone you use to play music on. My daughter has a Samsung J7 and it will sound very very loud but not painful to the ears at the highest setting but my nexus 6 will provide it with a ton more volume. Even at half way on my nexus 6 the speaker is incredibly loud and about 65% on my nexus is about 100% on my daughters Samsung J7. I'm not sure why that is but I guess each phone has it's quirks. Once you are connected via Bluetooth your phone controls the volume of the device. It's not like it has two levels and you can turn it full blast on your phone and then raise it more using the remote it came with. It took a bit to figure out how to change the input to a line in but it's very easy, you just hit the pairing button and it will cycle the inputs between bluetooth, usb and line in. It does not come with a line in cable. Overall this speaker is amazing. My brother in law has one of those more expensive branded speakers and I've always wanted to get that quality of sound but without spending $500 +. We bought my daughter a Monster Rocking Roller a few years back so she could take it outside when she hangs with her friends and while that was a decent speaker it doesn't hold a candle to the Sony. The Sony is in the same league as $500 speakers of that other brand but with way more bass. I believe anyone that spends the $200 on this speaker will be more than impressed. The light feature are neat, my daughter likes them. But after syncing with the app we wish they had more options for different patterns. I just leave it on the Chill setting all the time. One really neat feature is after your initial setup If your phone has NFC like my nexus 6 you can pretty much just touch it to the NFC area and it will configure the bluetooth for you. Why that is important is both my daughter and i use the speaker so when she walks away I can easily sync my phone without ever accessing the bluetooth settings. It's so cool. The only issues we had were getting the Songpal app to recognize the speaker. You see I synced my phone before I had the app installed and for some reason you will have to disconnect the bluetooth and sync it through the app. After that it will detect the speaker and you will have access to the equalizer and the illumination settings. The other issue was in certain songs I would hear a buzzing vibration in a deeper bass area of the song. At first i thought we had a defective speaker but after further review it was vibrating not only my tv but decoration on the wall. So the bass is pretty darn good if you ask me to do that. That's pretty much it, if you came here looking to buy this speaker don't wait another second and go and do it. It's worth it and then some. Buy two if you can afford it. The sound will blow you away!

I bet everyone thought about either buying this or the xb 60, well if you want something this big i don't see how you'd want to take it for a walk. It s bigger better louder better bass at low volume compared to xb 60 and it has a remote. I have an xb40 and speakers with batteries suck, they eventually die, especially because my xb40 after it s all charged it stops charging and it gets discharged then does not charge even if it was left plugged in, i have to take the plug out and put it back in. i imagine it s the same with the xb60.

Read a bunch of reviews before going to the store. Listened to it at the store and I was impressed. Probably going back tomorrow to buy a 2nd one to pair it together. Only downfall is there isn't a battery but that would double the price with how much sound comes out of this thing.

I really like this speaker. Good sound but I was kind of expecting a little more bass since there's a bass boost button. I am a Sony fan that was used to that great Sony bass that this doesn't have. I feel like it is a little pricey for the type of sound that this speaker produces. Bottom line, this speaker sounds good, the lights are awesome, but the bass boost feature is slightly misleading.

Purchased the speaker last night after a brief demo at the store. Speaker sounds good for what it does (semi portable) and is rather flexible as to what you plug into it. Bluetooth for (smart) phones, tablets and the like, line inputs for hooking up to an audio device (in my case, a USB DJ controller), or audio form a TV. And a usb input for hooking up to a USB stick (manual says MP3 and WMA only with the stick. If the speaker supported FLAC, that would be awesome. Another thing I wish Sony would have done was to allow a custom EQ curve instead of pre set choices. Sound level wise, this thing can get pretty loud. If you have close neighbors, you will get complaints if you crank it up (esp. if the neighbors don't like your music, lol). The manual states 130 watts RMS per channel @3 ohms with 1% THD at 130 watts. I'm guessing the amp is class D or something similar. Even without "extra bass" switched on, it puts out decent bass. Switching on extra bass seems to boost the low end around 45-60 Hz. I only have one speaker so I cannot test the "party chain" feature which allows you to daisy chain the speaker. There is an app called "Songpal" that allows additional features not found on the remote, like the sound presets. Two of these speakers hooked to a DJ controller would make for a nice house party. If you want louder, get some big PA speakers. :) It would be a treat if Sony would make a 12" subwoofer that looks and behaves like this speaker and it would make a killer setup! As for the "portability" of this speaker, it's rather heavy and it does require AC power so it's not truly portable. A truly portable powered speaker would contain batteries. I rated this 4 out of 5 stars. I deducted one star because of the lack of ability to set a custom EQ curve.
