Good sound but subpar build quality

The sound and features of these headphones are nice, but they are a bit flimsy. If you only use them at home and don't travel with them, they are probably OK, but in less than a year, the plastic on one of the ears broke. It's a party that didn't contain any wires so I was able to glue it back together, but the hollow plastic casing meas the glue doesn't hold very well. I'm giving Sony one more change and replacing these with the 1000xm2 this year. Hopefully the build quality will be nicer than these.

The fit of the headphone is really great, when you hold the headphone they seem expensive and not made of cheap plastic material. The Noise cancelling works great and I rarely use the base boost function (its too overpowering) its also nice to have skip tracks/base boost/NC buttons on the headphones. My only two complains are sony should have included hardcase (come on sony don't be cheap) vs cloth cover and after wearing them 30min you tend to sweat a lot (common complain for over the ear NC headphones) I purchased the headphones as part of hotdeals for $125 and I would recommend to buy it around that price. Not worth above $150.

If you love bass, these are GREAT! I listen to a lot of modern music...pop and hip hop. All are bass heavy and for headphones these are the greatest i've owned. i'm not an audiophile by any means, but these were much better than the beats i've owned. The only reason why I gave it a 4 instead of a 5 is because the material its built in seems a bit cheap, but that doesn't take away from its functionality.

I've purchased these headphones last year. I made a research and deliberately chose this model over XB950B1 because of the reviews about the broken hinge on them. Unfortunately, XB950N1 has the very same problem. For 8 months I really enjoyed the sound and noise cancellation they produce. I used them at my home office desk while working. Never took them outside, or even out of the room for a matter of fact. Never dropped or mishandled them. But still, either due to poor product design or materials quality, they cracked and broke on the hinge after only 8 months of gentle usage. I only noticed that when they broke completely, but I suspect it started with a crack which had led to this. My headphones are still under 1 year Sony warranty, so I've called the support and described my issue. But they said they will not do anything because the physical damage is not under their warranty. OK I get it when an item is broken because of the circumstances, but this one is an obvious design flaw and material quality issue. After zero help from the support, I tried to glue broken parts together, which didn't work. Looking for spare parts online but can't find anything. Now when one part of the hinge is broken there is too much pressure on the second one and it also cracked and will eventually break. Will try to fix it myself, but it is really frustrating to be left with broken headphones on hands especially when they are not that cheap.

Did not last one year before they stress fractured

The sound and noise cancellation of these are very nice. they sound really really good. But the plastic they are made of is obviously sub-par. With normal daily use, less than 6 months old, they have stress fractured at the point that has the smallest amount of plastic connecting the earpieces. On each earpiece. I am sending them back to Sony for evaluation, but they have warned me that physical damage is not usually covered and I will have to pay shipping to get them returned back to me, should they evaluate that they are not covered under the warranty. They have been gently taken care of and never dropped or abused, so I would have expected them to last longer than this. Very disappointing.

Works plugged in like normal headphones. Good noise cancelling with nothing on, on airplane. Very nice sound Bluetooth or wired. Got 2 year extended warranty all for less than $150. 2 pair and home Bluetooth transmitter to listen at home. Drawback: only connects to one device at a time. Would be good to pair to phone and second device, like TV or stereo. Needs a hardshell case with it for storage. Too easy to squish foam earpiece. Great for $120.

Really well built noise cancelling headphones with superb bass. Audio quality is fantastic. Just the right amount of noise cancelling to mute outside noise during my daily commute and is comfortable enough to wear for an extended amount of time. For being bluetooth the audio sounds amazing. The battery can easily last a week if used for 2 hours a day. The phone app is ok, it gives access to the bass and noise cancelling setting and also some audio presets. The audio presets don't sound good - not worth using. The only negative is because of the nature of the ear cups is that it makes my ears sweat. The ear cups are rubber or some kind of plastic material that is not breathable and traps heat. So glad I got these.

Cons: If you are looking for a noise canceling headphone to protect yourself from the air engine noise or your stupid roommate. Don't buy this. I returned this and buy a wr1000x ear pod. MDR 1000x mrak1 would be a good choice for noise canceling and lower price than mark 2. Also, Bose has several great noise canceling headphones, like quitecomfort 35&25 Thick foam makes it uncomfortable to wear it for a long time. The material is plastic, cannot recognize it from close look but it's a really cheap touch feeling. Pros: On the other hand, Sony did a good job for its clarity and performance on base and music instruments. OK for human sounds. Foldable lovely price for cyber mon deal $129 Good battery life Can still be used when low power with the attached aux cable The last thing: All the controlling units are on the headphone. About three buttons each side. power on/off, noise canceling switch, and base effect button on the left. volume control, pause, and next/last song on the right. Some people may love this combination. I personly don't. It depends.

First off I think these headphones look great. They come with a storage bag, charging cable and aux cable. The ear cushions are thick and soft but could be made of better materials in my opinion. The headband feels nice over the head and on the ears. I have a nice tight seal when I put them on. I love that you can also fold the cans in so you can store them in a more compact form. Controls are on the cans and very easy to use once you memorize them. The noise canceling feature is also great and blocks out ambient noise. Connecting theses headphones to my phone via Bluetooth was super easy and painless. Now the bass on these headphones are Amazing! You can feel all the low frequencies and wow was my first reaction when I felt the bass. You can download the app to adjust it to preset modes and adjust the bass levels. Wish there were more options in the app to truly customize the settings. Overall great headphones with awesome bass levels that come with good features and they look good.

    Defective product/swivel

Hello - I bought this product at the Best Buy store in New Hartford, NY in April. I picked these out in about five minutes as a replacement for an older pair of corded Sony noise cancelling headphones. I bought these for the great sound, the bluetooth and noise cancelling features. They were a mid-range price and on sale for $179, down from $249. I paid on my debit card and left the store. The sound, the bass, the Sony app and pairing the device - flawless. They paired with my Android phone, the Fire TV stick and Windows 10 laptop with ease. I was very excited! They are a little large/bulky, however, I'm interested in the quality of the sound and not the appearance. Incredible bass/sound! I thought - at last - a great pair of headphones! Within three weeks, I picked up the headphones to clean them/wipe them off and one of the cups simply fell out in my hand and was dangling by the cord. :( :( :( I was shocked!!! Apparently, these are of the swivel and fold design as were my previous pair. Unfortunately, something cracked on the inside of the headband and the swivel popped out of the headband. Upon inspection, the plastic cracked and could not be fixed! @@@@@@@@ CHEAP!!!! @@@@@@@ Unfortunately, I was just a couple days past the return window of two weeks. I contacted the local Best Buy store (or so I thought - more on this later) and explained the situation and they suggested to contact Sony due to "physical damage." I did contact Sony support and was flatly told "NO" and they would not cover repair for the headphones due to "physical damage." I was referred to "Product Repair" where I could pay for my brand new headphones to be repaired for a price. I certainly didn't break them and if they are that fragile to break just two-three weeks in - then I would consider them defective in terms of materials used. The cups swivel and fold - so I would assume they would be able to hold up for several years before running into this type of issue, especially in this price range! I contacted Best Buy again and asked for a manager to see what considerations they would make. I carefully explained the entire story and took down names of who I talked to. They suggested that I bring in the product for a manager to review and they would make a determination. I did some research on this subject and found several similar reviews on both the Best Buy and Sony websites. I printed those to use as a way to work with management on this subject. After renting a car and traveling an hour to this location, I went to the customer service desk and spoke to three managers. I was informed that Best Buy enforces their policy and the product was outside of the return window and physically damaged and that there was nothing that could be done. When I asked for the staff members that I had talked to on the phone, I was told that they don't work there! I later was told that when you call the local store number, it's transferred to a call center in Syracuse, NY. I explicitly told the "Call Center" all of the details of what happened previously. The management also informed me that the call centers "mistake" in asking me to have the product evaluated by management was not their normal policy and that it would be "addressed" with their management. The Call Center is not in alignment with store policies. This is NOT fair to the customer! I asked for the store manager several times after speaking with the manager on duty and two assistant managers that simply quoted policy. They also quizzed me why I didn't buy the $60 product protection plan. Why should I have to pay $60 to cover what is obviously a design flaw? What happened to quality materials and workmanship? Why should the consumer need to pay additional money to cover products that break so easily? I was also asked why I was asking managers to break "THREE" of their policies and was given the impression that I should know better. Really?? The headphones were $195 with tax and it's not something I'm just going to let go of. At last, the store manager, John came out and I re-explained the entire situation and basically pleaded with him to make an exception. He brought over the sales associate to look at the headphones. He said that as a manager, he appreciated my story/situation and would make an exception to Best Buy's policies in this case and that he valued my business. I did thank him as I previously purchased a Samsung 48" LED TV at this location 3-4 years ago and is an exceptional TV. We went over to the headphones aisle and then learned that the headphones were no longer on sale and the price climbed to $249. If I wanted to "exchange" them at this point, I was informed that I would need to pay the difference of now $70. Afraid of this model, I would also need to purchase the protection plan for $60, which is now going to cost me $130, in case they break again. I also considered several alternatives, however, I was fairly upset and I didn't want to purchase any other headphones without the proper research and investigation. I was able to obtain a store credit and I left the store. I do thank the store manager, John - for making this exception and providing excellent customer service! Very much appreciated and I will consider Best Buy again in the future. However, with this said - I cannot recommend this product at all for any reason! Sony really should make this a metal hinge/swivel due to the constant flexing of the cup in this area. This is also my first issue with a return at Best Buy so I will be a lot more cautious before I make future purchases at this store. Thank you for your time.

It feels great when you touch it and it gives the product a "quality" aspect. I LIKE THAT! - Headphones have a nice weight to them. They feel sturdy and the material on the headband feels nice. I didn't like the feel or quality of the plastic connecting to the ear pieces though. Maybe perhaps if it was the same material as the headband all the way around? Nonetheless, it does feel sturdy though; just wished it wasn't such light plastic. Ear cushions feel really nice. They're soft and have "memory foam" like material on the inside. Buttons on the ear pieces are distinguishable and easy to use. - Pouch is a very nice material, feels very soft and non "scratchy" for your headset. Unfortunately, mine had a hole in it. So be on the lookout when you get yours. If you don't care so much about the pouch then I guess it doesn't matter but if you're someone like me, I'd care! - Some info from Sony: Sony states: Noise cancelling - Industry leading digital noise cancelling cuts out ambient noise and adapts to your environment so you can hear more of the detail in every track. Now it's just you and the music. Premium Wireless - Easy to carry, move with and use without obstruction. Bluetooth and NFC wireless connectivity with compatible device. Up to 22 hours of battery life with continuous, wireless music playback. Sound Quality - It wouldn't be a Sony headphone if it didn't include premium sound quality. Large, 40 mm driver units deliver broad, dynamic and balanced sound with 20-20,000 Hz frequency response when streaming wirelessly and 3-28,000Hz with the supplied audio cable. Sony Headphone Connect APP - The Sony Headphone Connect App acts as a companion to your headphones. The application allows you to check the battery level, turn noise cancelling on or off, customize the level of bass from -10 to +10m and also provides preset EQ's such as club, music hall, arena, or outdoors to give you control over how your headphone sound. Setup/Testing/Conclusion - Alright ladies and gentlemen, this is what you've been waiting for. So here are my thoughts. Setup was EXTREMELY PAINLESS!!! I did the setup first on my iPhone and it connected perfectly fine. No issues at all. I downloaded the app and the app basically did everything its supposed to do. I was even able to test out the functionality of the app like Surround (VPT) *this is the different EQs you can change it to like arena, club, etc*, extra BASS, and toggling on and off the noise cancellation feature. Everything worked as expected and was honestly kind of fun to be able to customize the way I listen to music. Next setup I did was on an Android phone and it was just as easy! I used the NFC (near field communication) to connect the headset and it worked flawlessly. So if you know how Google Wallet or Apple Pay works, you'll be right at home. You have the same functionality as the iOS app. OH! You also get to check battery life on the app which is neat. So the testing, well lets just say that the sound quality on these are AMAZING! I love them. If you're looking for clear audio, awesome bass, and nice all around music to your ears; I'd definitely give these a try. The only issue* I had with these is that they feel kinda "big". Also, maybe because my ears are huge; they got quite uncomfortable after long periods of listening. I also wear glasses so maybe that's a contribution? I had a couple co workers with different size ears to try them out and they said the exact same thing. So maybe its just us folks in California? I had my spouse try them out and she enjoyed them. The only issue* she had was that she can hear a weird VERY LOW static in the sound. I personally didn't experience this nor did my co workers. So maybe my spouse is "hearing things" if you know what I mean. But if you also hear it... Then maybe my co workers and I are the crazy ones. The active noise canceling works great! I texted them in an office environment and at a home environment. So if you're listening to music you can basically expect not to hear anyone around you. If music is not playing or is not as loud, you can faintly hear some other individual(s) around you. But to be honest, I enjoy the noise canceling feature; its quite neat! I love the bass. Sony advertised BASS and I can tell you, there is BASS. I didn't even turn it up max in the app, just at +5 out of +10. My music wasn't even at max. Just for giggles I did +10 for base and max on music and WOW! You can feel the power, lets just say that. If the battery does in fact last 22 hours, that's pretty wonderful. Lets be real, you're gonna end up charging them mid-next day anyways when you're not using them. Since you also get a headphone cable, you can always plug it into a device when you don't necessarily need it to be wireless. In conclusion and all in all, I really enjoyed this headset. If you're on the search for a new headset with folding capabilities, relatively comfortable cushions, and REALLY fantastic sound; give these a try. Sony has always made great quality products and this headset is no exception. Good job SONY! If you're wondering why I knocked off a star, for me personally (my opinion); its because they were not 100% comfortable for me. But again, that could be because I have big ears and wear glasses.
