|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.THE BREAKDOWN: This Sony SRS-XP500 speaker is very well made, heavy, larger than expected but overall, the speaker is amazing!! The sound quality was very impressive, and the MEGA Bass option really delivered. We have and outdoor pool that is 18 X 36 with a large area to entertain and we found that this speaker alone could do the job. Before we had 2 speakers spanning the area but with this one, we found that with the proper placement we could now just use one. I found that the so called “X-Balanced” system delivered very balanced mid and highs. There was no volume setting that was to high and distorted the sound. One of the other features that I found nice was the IPX4 water rating as we use this exclusively outdoor at the pool. With tons of kids and adults splashing around it is nice to have the extra coverage. Battery life for me was about 19 hours per charge but I feel this has everything to do with how loud you play it, the light settings ect….. Everyone’s experience will be different. I think for the size and output this is pretty good! This speaker can be setup vertically or horizontally as they have rubber feet to accommodate either position. On the top of the speaker there are buttons for On/Off, Bluetooth, Play/Pause, Volume +/- and MEGA BASS. On the back/rear part of the speaker there is a rubber door that once you pullout reveals two 1/4” inputs that each have their own level controls. The ports are for a guitar, microphone or whatever instrument you want to connect. There is also a 3.5mm input and 2 USB ports one for charging one for input or charging. Above this rubber door are 3 rubber buttons labeled “light”, “battery care” and “party connect”. I really like the battery care button as you can check the battery level at anytime by pushing the button and you hear an audible message stating what percentage your battery is currently at. I have used both Sony apps the Sony Music Center and Fiestable and they both worked as intended for me. PRO’s: -Solid built -USB play and Charge -IPX4 rating -Vertical or horizontal positioning -Great battery life CON’s: -Heavy SUMMARY: Overall, this product worked well and as intended, and I would recommend this to a friend if they are in the market for device like this.

When the audio source does not contain much of bass sound, the bass sound may not be audible. I don’t really find it to be the best especially if you’re in very wide open area you’re not gonna get the amount arranged that you would want. It’s amazing indoors outdoors is kind of lacking but it’s good if you bring it out to a camping trip or to the beach Works for some family barbecues pool parties it’s better if you have it sideways like this and standing on something like a stool to bounce the sound around more

For optimum performance, make sure that the software of the speaker is updated as it includes key features, applications, bug fixes, and feature improvements. Sound quality may also vary depending on the source and content you are playing. To ensure optimal listening experience, install the Sony Music Center app. There you will find all sorts of tools like an equalizer to fine-tune your speaker and maximize the audio to your liking.
Also, the maximum sound volume for playing music depends on whether the speaker is running on power from the connected AC outlet or from the rechargeable built-in battery. This, however, does not indicate a malfunction. To play music louder, connect the speaker to an AC outlet and turn up the volume of the speaker and the connected device. Which is to say, the Sony XP-500 is really, really loud, cranks out way more bass than I could handle and still manages to balance out all the frequencies enough so it sounds pretty darn good, no matter what kind of music you are playing. (You might have to turn off "mega-bass" though since it can be pretty overpowering. ) Credit Sony's new X-balanced speaker system for the improved sound quality over earlier models. Did I mention it is battery powered, running for up to 20 hours on a single charge? Waterproof enough to use around the pool (IPX 4 water resistance) . And can handle not only all the bluetooth music you want to feed it, from phone, tablet or laptop, but also will double as a guitar amp (if you are not too demanding) and PA system ( if you have a microphone you want to plug into it.) And to top it off, it provides an interesting light show via new indirect LED lights that are built into the handles, and thus reflect back onto the cabinet rather than straight into your eyes. I am not sure that is an advantage but Sony seems to think it is. Of course, you can turn the lights off entirely all those moving flashing lights are bugging you for some reason. (Use the "delightful" setting -- I am not making this up -- for the biggest variety of colors and patterns.) The entire operation is actually very customizable using Sony's Music Center App. It allows you to choose several different pre-set sound profiles (ClearAudio + seemed to work best for me) or build your own;. choose between a dozen or so different "illumination" patterns, from mild to wild, and pair it up with other compatible bluetooth speakers (true stereo is possible with other Sony speakers) to crank out even more sound. But for most folks, this one speaker cabinet is more than enough to fill a pretty large room with music in almost any house. If bluetooth is not your thing, you can make direct connections from phones and other device via an auxiliary cable or plug in a USB drive loaded with music. The well-integrated Music Center app allows you to pick artists, songs or albums. The USB ports also can be used to charge USB devices if you are not in too big a hurry since there are no high power charging ports here (1.5A max). This thing is the Swiss army knife of bluetooth speakers. It's pretty easy on the eyes too, thanks to a new curvy design that leaves no room for sharp corners. The cabinet is all plastic but stylish built-in handles at the top and bottom make it easy to grab and go, as long as you have the muscle to lug this thing. It is a pretty hefty 37 pounds. A sturdy metal grate on the front protects the speakers from damage. The speaker is designed to be used in both the upright vertical position or horizontal, with rubber feet along one side if you opt for that configuration. There are only a few minor downsides. The first is that instructions that come with it are in type as tiny as ant tracks so pretty useless for older eyes. Download the web version for a much easier experience. The input labels and controls on the back of the speaker are similarly impossible to read in all but the brightest environments. A not so useful black on black color scheme. So fine for the beach or pool maybe but not so much inside the house.

The Sony SRS XP500 offers a really modern and upscale look with modern style. Durable usage and portability for indoor and outdoor use. A portable Bluetooth speaker with some Mega Bass that Sony uniquely offers. IPX4 water resistant is perfect to have outdoors for picnics or pool parties. This speaker can withstand some gentle splashing or minor rain or sprinkles. Easy to grasp dual handles for picking this speaker up and taking it on the go and moving it from place to place. Weighs approximately 25 pounds so it's got some weight to it, but isn't impossible to lug around in the back of the SUV or for tailgating. This speaker is versatile as it will allow you to stand it vertically or lay it down horizontally for your appropriate space. You can use the input jacks on the back of this unit to plug in your microphone and also a guitar as well. The best part of this speaker for me is that it's cordless so you can achieve true wire free usability. With a full charge you can take this speaker on the go. Also use the 2 USB ports on the back to charge your device or you can also play music directly from your smartphone via USB. Most will use the Bluetooth 5.0 to utilize their music streaming on this for smooth and solid wireless connection. To bump up the party effect you can utilize the LED lighting for illumination and choose the mood you prefer. A must have to maximize your usage of this speaker is the Sony Music Center app available in the App Store for my iPhone XR. This speaker has fantastic sound and great looks. Sony has offered a very versatile Bluetooth speaker and battery pack in one.
