I've had pretty much all of the brands: Samsung, Sony Ericcson, ZTE, LG, Motorola, etc., so I'm not necessarily a Sony fanboy, but this Xperia 1 Mark II has made me into a BIG SONY FAN, especially when I got mine with the free ANC Sony earbuds via B&H! My Pros: 1) The 4K OLED 21:9 display is phenomenal! I definitely choose this over a high refresh rate. Now, I can shoot in 4K AND view videos I've shot in 4K! Also, watching 4K YouTube content is simply refreshing and a treat for the eyes! Colors and details are vivid, yet accurate and true to life, which I prefer over highly saturated, fake colors from Samsung, etc. 2) The Alpha cameras (in the words of tech tuber, Flossy Carter) are a "Major Major Major GO!" Shooting 20 fps in a smartphone is a great first to boast and I'm amazed and glad I'm able to capture fast moving objects, people, animals, etc. very sharply and focused! When compared to other flagships like the Pixel, let's just say the Mark II is a stick shift and the Pixel is an automatic. Both drive well if the owners are great drivers. The main camera app takes great photos, but I can take it to the next level with Photo Pro. It's fun to be in control and I'm able to take fantastic photos. Also, CinemaPro allows me to hone in on my videography skills and improve my YouTube content (HR-Vex). I want to make cinematic short films with my Mark II! 3) The HS Power Control feature is on point! Heat Suppression allows me to plug in my phone yet the battery won't charge or discharge. The power comes directly from the charger, so that means no heat accumulation and battery degradation while playing games, using GPS or other apps! This is innovative. Very Sony! 4) The Mark II has a good weight to it. It's not too light to feel cheap, but it's not too heavy that it would cause hand fatigue. 5) I hate notches, holes, etc., so I'm all for small bezels that house the dual front firing speakers, which sound loud, crisp, and amazing especially when Dolby Atmos is activated. 6) The overall design is simple yet beautiful. I love the flat edges and the build quality is top notch as expected from a Sony flagship. Also, I'm glad the camera array is situated on left side so when I place it on my Moza Mini S gimbal, no lens would catch any of the motors. 7) The headphone jack is back and it's very useful in my use other than listening to music with my wired earbuds. I can plug in my external microphone when I make videos. Cons: I find it hard honestly to hate on my Mark II. Sony has definitely made a great multimedia flagship. I guess the only con I have is that it's very expensive just like any other flagship these days. That's why I was willing to purchase it early during the pre-order period and wait even longer to get the bundle with the free Sony WF1000XM3. Definitely makes it a better deal and worth the wait. Conclusion: I'm very happy and satisfied my Sony Xperia 1 II is my first Sony flagship! It checked off all of my boxes, it helped Xperia finally make a profit, and it deserved getting the EISA 2020 Award for Multimedia Smartphone! Great job Sony!

Receive photos in black/white and pixilated. Turns data and basically all services off. It's not good for people that are active. Weak outer case. Only good thing is great photos.

    My Experience with Xperia

Buy this device at you own risk! Terrible Customer Service experience as well! I purchased this device directly from the Sony website. So this is a long story. I pre ordered and the purchased my Xperia 1 II back in late July of 2020 at release. I was eager and excited as this would be my first Sony cell phone. I was enjoying the phone and it was working well. The camera is Great! For those who really want the detailed controls of a professional camera on a cell phone look no further! It is even able to shoot raw photos. The Cinema pro ad the Photo Pro apps work well to unleash a lot of what these cameras can do. I loved the feel of it in my hands. The tall and slim build is unique and great for watching content in 4k. There are useful features built in as well to make navigating this tall device very easy. The battery would last me a near full day of constant use. I absolutely loved the feature it that would slow the charge rate when I would charge overnight. The feature would be sure the phone didn't overcharge, but instead would slow charge and reach 100% at a time I would select in the morning. Things were going well until mid- October (Less than three months of owning the phone) it began having software issues. The phone would complexly freeze. So badly that I could not even power it off. I had to do a forced shut down every time this happened so I could get it working again. So, I contacted Sony Support to resolve the issues. They gave me the typical run around of factory reset phone, reset networks, uninstall apps, all that usual stuff. None of it worked so on October 27, 2020 I did what I needed to do to get the phone sent to the Sony repair center to get the device fixed. They changed the motherboard of the phone and sent it back. I received it back about ten days later on November 6th. But this time the phone had a whole new issue that it didn’t have before. Now it could not read/detect the SIM card. This rendered the device useless! I sent it in to have one problem fixed and it was returned to me with a whole new issue! So, I contact Sony again and on November 11, 2020 I sent the phone back for repairs. As of this review, December 15, 2020, I still do not have the device back. After much much haggle with their customer service I found out that the IMEI of my phones new motherboard was not registered with my mobile network, and that others have had this similar issue. So, after a full month of waiting for this to be fixed it seems Sony would rather me sit here and wait in limbo then give some results. Sony seems to refuse to even provide a new replacement device or a refund for the defective device. I feel a simple solution would be for me to be sent a new device that has a registered IMEI. So now I am left here without my $1200 device and frustratingly trying to work with customer to get me a replacement one or a refund for the clearly defective device. Especially after I sent it in once and it came back with a whole new and arguable worse issue. I was enjoying the phone when it was working. However, having major software issues so young in its life added with the lack of support from Sony has left a bad taste in my mouth. I leaves it hard to recommend this phone as I would not want anyone to have to endure what I am currently going though. It may be a while before I get a phone from Sony again. So that is my Experience with the Sony Xperia 1 II.
