Form factor/aspect ratio is very good, but not for everyone. Display is outstanding. Audio is unsurpassed. Camera is complex, but if you love to customize settings, you won't be disappointed. Battery life is fantastic. Price is biggest con.

That camera though WOW! Smooth running. Used to be a Samsung guy. Now it's Sony for life. Before this I had the Xperia 5. That was a SOLID phone. 2 years later after many drops and bring rained on. It lasted much better than the Samsung's and ALOT better than the 1 iPhone X I had. Expandable storage, headphone jack, 4k display and a 120 refresh rate. It's the only phone with these features. Paying this kind of money for a phone with these features should standard... Sony is premium PERIOD. Built to last!

I've had an iphone for years and decided to finally make a switch. The good reviews for this phone and the specs made me incredibly interested, so I went for it. Well I've been using this phone for a while now and I love it. I've taken some fantastic pictures with this. I love the software and smart features for the camera. The dedicated camera button makes it so easy to quickly take pictures. I was able to take great pics of my dogs and nieces, which as we all know, taking pictures of animals and children are the biggest challenge! I was super impressed. The battery life is decent. The phone charges quickly and as someone that uses their phone all day, I'm satisfied with it. The screen and display is great, I love how the colors look more vibrant, and I love being able to toggle the 120hz refresh rate. One of my favorite things is how the phone fits in my hand. My issue is that I have small hands, so I had trouble using my iPhone 11 one-handed. This phone is very slim, I love it. It's not too wide so it makes one handed use very easy and comfortable. Overall I'm highly satisfied and don't really miss anything about my old phone.

This phone is so cool and different. I purchase this phone for high productivity use. I am into Google Motorola and Sony mobile devices because they are power houses when it comes to the things I need to get done. I like the size of this device because it is a smaller form factor. I went with the Sony Xperia I III instead of the Sony Xperia 5 III because of the look and feel of the device. I wanted the display to be a little smaller but it is growing on me. The Sony XP 5 III had the smaller display but I didn't like the feel of the phone too slippery. The camera is awesome but I don't think I am an expert in that field to go into detail. The one thing that is a negative for me is finding accessories. I was wondering would the Sony Xperia I IV case fit one on the Sony Xperia I III. I have a Spigen case on it temporary but I will continue to look for the Sony OEM case.

Very happy with this phone. Beautiful and simple design, nice matte finish on the back. 5G is fast and the call quality is clear/loud compare to the X1 II. I've had Samsung Note 20 ultra and S21 before this but i experienced completely lost of signal on both phones went the phone switching from 5G to LTE. This phone doesn't have this issue so far. Reception wasn't the best on the X1 II so i could tell the improvement on this phone. Awesome 4K display and sound quality which is something i truly enjoy with Sony phones. Camera has improved as well especially wide angle with much better clarity and detail. This phone has a minor overheating issue due to the SD888 chipset but the new software update 61.0.A.11.92 rolling out now fixed this issue and improved battery life as well. Very solid phone and now i enjoy it much more after the update. Very solid phone, great upgrade from my Xperia 1 II.

This is probably the best Sony Phone ever made. I've been a huge Sony fan over the years, and probably can be considered a fan boy. But I've always loved the phones because of the build quality. Well this time it's got both a great build quality and software integration with Android. Camera: They've totally upped the game with the Camera and utilizing the Pro Camera makes it feel like a portable alpha camera. Low Light Pictures are great and the auto face tracking makes for great pictures and qualities. Sound: can still use some more of an improvement. I believe the on board speakers are still located at the bottom of the phone so if you put it in an incorrect position the sound can be a little muffled when on a call. Music, and playing videos have a nice surround sound though with sound coming from top and bottom providing a nice surround feeling. Noise Cancelling Earbuds are just great for airplanes, and I cannot wait to use them when the pandemic is over to see how it drains out the Aircraft noises. Battery Life: So far the battery is good, I can easily last maybe 2 days without having to charge. Finger Print: Once again the sensor is on the side, but can be a little finicy. Sometimes it works sometimes it doesn't but overall still more responsive than the X1 Overall this phone is butterly smooth and really easy to use. The multi-switch mode is also soo much easier to use than previous Xperia X1. I no longer accidently hit it or trigger it and can easily trigger it when I want it to happen. Sony finally is back in the mobile game. It's not game changer but it's a welcoming sign to see Sony creating a solid device finally.

After a solid year of use, this has been the best phone I have had since my Samsung S5. Holds up well to my abuse, has an absurdly complicated camera system that I actually love. The form factor is actually easy to get used to (skinny and tall). My only gripes is that it cost as much as it did and I still can't replace batteries in phones. It has a headphone jack, wireless charging thats quick and VERY good at keeping the battery life. Screen its much better than my eyes can see (seems more accurate to color than my wife's S22 Ultra) and smooth. I spend hours on my phone like most Americans, and this has to by my favorite one so far. The S5 held that title for a long time, but technology does eventually get better.

Phone is excellent, the 21:9 aspect ratio really makes the phone screen feel bigger than it is when watching a show/movie and honestly adds to the immersion of a show. The speakers sound great and having a headphone jack and the easy to remove SIM card/SD card holder is great as I'm paying a premium price and not having basic features removed from my phone. A bit on the negative end though is that for the price, the front camera isn't amazing and the point and click aspect of using a rear camera is not great either, but if you learn to use the "pro" features the you can really get some great shots.

Audiophile Review -- An awesome phone

My opinion of this phone is so high that I felt inclined to leave a review. For background, I generally purchase higher end phones such as S20 Ultra, Google Pixel, or flagship iPhone of the day. I bought the Xperia 1 iii for the expandable SD slot, headphone jack, high end chipset, and numerous upgrades in the display versus other phones. Given my focus on audiophile qualities, that was a major driver, because I wanted a better mobile solution. Having a DAP is great on day 1, but carrying around two devices, charging two devices is just inconvenient. I have a nice DAC (Chord Mojo) but all the cords are inconvenient. So I saw this phone as a great option to simplify mobile listening without sacrificing sound quality. End result -- I got exactly what I wanted (with a few caveats). I used two earphones with these -- wired (Shure SE846) and Bluetooth (Sony WH-1000xm3). I am happy with how both sound. While the SE846 obviously has better detail and resolution, both have great dynamics in percussion, resolve the low end notes VERY WELL, and tend to a very balanced sound overall. I will say, it's not Chord Mojo quality....when the song gets really full and busy, the details suffer a bit but to be honest I am looking for that and casual listening is no problem. Now the main caveat -- I used both Qobuz and Tidal on this phone and on these earphones, Tidal was the winner....by a MILE! Tidal sounds so good with these earphones, that I actually wondered whether Sony tuned the equipment with Tidal in mind. Given they have Tidal as a 3 month free trial app, that speculation is very fair. With all that said, you couple the expandable SD slot for music storage, the headphone jack (which is well done, noise free), great quality with Tidal, and then low file size on Tidal to download mounds of music....that's amazing. Few other points, the screen lives up to the hype. Great quality! Watch the surrealistic scenes in Dr. Strange and it says everything that needs to be said. Far beyond what Samsung and iPhone are capable of. One other caveat -- the complaints on phone battery are open to criticism. With that said, higher demands with apps, 120 hz refresh rate, etc. take energy and what's the point of buying the premium phone and then throttling back the features. My very loose estimate is that with normal usage, you'll get 10 hours or so before your searching for a charger.

Been using this phone for a week and it has been outstanding. It's slightly slimmer than my old phone, which I like. Materials and build quality are great. It is slightly heavy, but I feel it's a fair tradeoff for the performance and features it has. This phone is fast. I saw a big boost in internet browser speed compared to my old device. The screen is excellent, especially paired with the surprisingly powerful stereo speakers when watching video. Call quality is very clear, the best of any phone I've used and it was super easy to set up myself online through my carrier's website. Lastly I need to talk about the camera! This phone takes incredible pictures and with the advanced camera app it has gives a huge amount of control over the picture and camera settings. Very impressive zoom as well and I love that it has a dedicated shutter button which makes it easy to pull up the camera fast and snap a picture. And it still has a headphone jack! Love it!

Purchased this phone as a replacement for my wife's LG G7 fit, and let me tell you, it's quite an upgrade. She uses the phone mainly to record videos and to listen to music, podcasts, etc. The camera on this phone is so good, the 4k screen with 120Hz refresh rate is insane. It's almost overkill, but once you use it, it's hard to switch back to anything less. The build quality is excellent, although, with most shiny phones, there will be noticeable fingerprints all over it, just wipe your phone down every once in a while. The performance is excellent, the screen is smooth crisp and clear. I would definitely recommend this phone over a Samsung and even an iPhone. You get so much for a decent price.

Great replacement for an older Xperia

I had a Sony Xperia XZ3 for over 3 years, and its battery was clearly past its prime, needing to be charged several times a day. I've been pleased with Sony in general, and I didn't want to drop the extra money for the upcoming Xperia 1 Mark IV, so I searched several sites for pricing on the Xperia 1 Mark III. As I have a Best Buy Credit Card, I was able to take advantage of the option providing interest-free financing if I pay it off in 24 months. The shipping estimate was exactly correct, as I received it the day I was told it would arrive before I even bought it. It shipped well with UPS and arrived in great shape. I got the phone a week before I went overseas for a week, and wanted to get the phone up and running by then. I went through the standard phone setup and transferred the data that Google was able to transfer from my old phone, and was able to begin using it late that night. My only caution/advice when first using the device is to make sure that when the Sony app to update the OS is running: ***be sure to keep it as the active (showing) app!*** I had allowed this app to run in the background, as other apps on the phone were able to update in the background. I later realized that the download/installation was paused, which was rectified when I brought the Sony updater app to the front. The phone is a definite improvement over my older Sony. I like that Sony has retained the SIM/MicroSD tray as removable without needing a paper clip, which is one of those little touches that shows Sony's attention to detail. As a lefty, I was concerned that the combined fingerprint sensor/lock button on the right side of the phone would be annoying , but it is not. I have been able to use it easily, and rarely tap it by accident. The fact that it is slightly recessed helps. (My previous Sony had the fingerprint sensor on the back below the camera, centrally placed.) The phone's camera is super quick to respond, and takes great pictures. There is marked improvement on this model from my XZ3 (which is admittedly 3 models older). The included Photography Pro app is a treat to use, and allows for users from intro to advanced to use the app as needed. The phone is indeed easy to hold in one hand, as many others have noted. It's taller than some with its 21:9 ratio, but that same ratio makes it narrower and thus easier to hold in your hand(s). The battery has typically lasted me a full day, sometimes even more, with moderate usage. If I use it heavily in one day, it will need a charge (but often just a top off) to finish out the day. Additionally, if you're out of range of a good cellular network, it will of course burn more battery searching for a solid connection. The only negative I've noticed is that the phone can, on occasion, heat up quite a bit, to the point where the screen is physically very warm to the touch. I noticed this when I was outside and the temperatures were in the 90s Fahrenheit, which is not too surprising. All in all, it's a great phone that I'm thrilled to have and use for the next several years!

I've been back and forth between Androids and iPhones and the Sony Xperia has been my favorite device for a year. Unfortunately, it is now failing. Pros: - Fantastic Screen. Glass has held up and no scratches to note. - Camera quality is amazing if* you're familiar with Sony software and can tweak the settings to your environment - Forward facing speakers - Connectivity; headphones jack, microSD, etc...wireless Android Auto has worked flawlessly (shocking maybe). - Fast performance and the OS is very close to stock Android (find this as a positive). - Battery Life has been acceptable. Not crazy performance but definitely lasts me all day. Cons: - Fingerprint scanner has stopped working entirely after one year of use. - Price It has been an extremely enjoyable device to use but after the fingerprint scanner stopped working, I've lost trust with the build quality and wonder what else will stop working in the coming months? I have an extended warranty that should take care of the fix/replacement but I'd expect another device to have the same problem after a year. I would not purchase this at full price. Maybe on a hefty discount WITH a warranty.

As long as I've owned a phone, the most important functions to me have been picture quality, display quality, and connection strength. This phone is perfect for me. The video and photo quality from this camera is the best I've ever seen, the display is on-par with the iPhone 13, and my phone signal has been very reliable (some of this is my carrier, surely, but I have had better connectivity in general with this phone compared to my older phones). I also love that this phone still has an SD card slot and a headphone jack. Storage space is important, as I do not use cloud storage for my photos. I have a 1tb micro SD card installed and the phone supports it seamlessly. To get the best picture quality, it does take some adjustments to the camera settings, but spending a few minutes on it is worth it for the resulting photo quality. The build quality seems great, so I'm hoping this is the last phone I have to buy for a number of years. I can usually go 2 days between charges with how I use the phone, as I don't do a lot of gaming (calls, texting, photos, and emails are my main uses). Highly recommended if you're looking at top-of-the-line phones.

    Xperia 1 III Personal Review

I loved the Sony Xperia series before, but here's my review. I like the length of the phone, but I do wish for that width in like the Xperia XA Ultra 1/2. If you are looking for something that's skinny to fit into pockets with a case, then this might be for you. The camera quality beautifully captures the earthy-muted tones of real life, and if you are a more advanced photographer, you may enjoy the Cinematic Pro app. The video playback quality (YoutTube) is pretty good. It has sharp imagery with the muted/natural colors. I don't like that the video cuts off weirdly when I expand the videos to full screen. However, that might not be just this phone that does that. The 5G capabilities are okay, but I believe the phone lags in mobile service. For example, I have experienced the phone app closing on me multiples while I was multitasking on other apps. The phone app would close randomly when I either, opened, closed, or moved around in other apps. A big plus for me is that Sony included a headphone jack in the design, and I appreciate that! They have also included to the charger cord and and brick (rare now-a-days, isn't it?). Overall, I believe it's a good phone that has its challenges. Hopefully upgrades/patches are provided to help with reception issues.

I may be biased since most of my phones have been Sony but they have never let me down. It may not have some of the gimmicks that other phones have to draw attention, but it's a solid reliable phone with great performance. It's fast has a great looking screen (that's also survived things that friend have pointed out would have cracked theirs) great stereo speakers and good battery life considering how much I use it. The camera is good in auto but it can be amazing if you're a photographer that knows how to use the more advanced settings.

I will make this brief. I got this device for one reason and one only. "Audio" and "Music" So far, its amazing with what Sony intended this phone for. Not only the entertainment part of this such as the screen viewing ect...its well built and light. All other features I can overlook, being impressive or not. The camera quality and features may not be the best of the best and is what Sony is actually known for, but this camera design was intended more for the tweaker. I mean tweaking...lol. With that, anyone who owns one or is planning to, you will benefit much more with a pair of buds, headphones or a portable speaker that supports the HiFi, 360 Reality, and lossless audio it was intended for. I would think utilizing the 3.5mm jack via a wire will increase the experience for the audio quality since bluetooth still needs to compress the data where the wire does not due to the large amount of bandwith a lossless audio file format will deliver.
