It was a great, inexpensive phone with a subpar camera that began freezing and glitching after two months. Very disappointed.

Some people may like the layout and design of this phone, and I love Sony phones, but this one was a fave. Returned within 3 hours back to the store.

I can say everything is worse except a little better battery life.
Screen touch sensitivity, processing Speed too slow, Speaker sound, Call really horrible. It doesn’t really deserve that expensive price.
Actually I started using it after its return time got expired that’s the only reason I kept it.
I wish I can return it.

I have been an Android user since the Samsung Omnia (~2008) and have primarily used either the Droid of old, or Samsung Galaxies since the S3. Having been loyal to the Galaxy line for some time, I was excited to see if the grass was greener on the Sony side. Let me save you some time...its not.
Initial impressions of the Sony Xperia 10 is that it has a unique and pleasant feel in your hand. It's not as cumbersome as most upper tier phones. It's a tall and narrow drink of water. The thumb print sensor in ingeniously located in the middle of the right side frame, making it very intuitive to unlock your phone my just grabbing it in your hand naturally. Add to that the screen looks decent, battery life was amazing, and call quality seemed good, I was feeling optimistic.
Unfortunately, that seems to be the end of the positives. When attempting to access the SD card slot on the left side of the phone, the SIM card pulls out and the phone freaks out, stating that it needs to restart. While the phone is collecting its bearings, I try and take that time to access the SD card. Nope, it won't pull out. Something about trying to access the SD card kept messing with the phone, and making it want to restart because it didn't like me so close to the sim card. I gave up and figured I would live with the on board storage.
On to using the phone...the best way I could describe it is...have you ever participated in that exercise at school or work when you have to instruct some one how to make a peanutbutter and jelly sandwich and it always goes horribly wrong and makes a mess? Yeah, that was pretty much my experience. The phone didn't like taking direction. Being a different brand than I had been using of late, I expected a learning curve, but going from Android to Android, I didn't think I would have to learn another language to communicate with this phone.
Taking all of this into consideration...the phone is average at best. It's much cheaper than your flagship phones from other brands and may be a good option for you if you broke your first string phone and can't afford to replace it with the same. But come draft day, I would definitely go for a better pick to lead your daily activities.

After using the Sony Xperia 10 for a week, I was left wondering why Sony made this phone. I mean sure the screen is great for watching movies, but aside from that, this phone is inferior to other midrange phones on the market at the same price It does have a few slick feature like the afore mentioned screen and the fingerprint sensor on the right side (awkward for left handers). It’s tall and narrow profile is a bit odd looking, but I could see it being easier for smaller hands to hold on to. The phone itself feels like a premium phone, but performance and battery life could be better for this price range. As I said, there are other midrange phones on the market right now that have better performance and battery life.
One thing I found really annoying is the SIM/Micro SD tray. When I pulled out the tray, there was a protective piece of plastic inside that broke off when I tried to pull it out. I needed a pair of tweezers to get the remnants out. Then, putting in the SIM card and Micro SD card was sort of a balancing act to get them to slide in properly. Not off to a good start! The phone booted up fairly fast and after setting up my google account and answering a few Android standard questions, I was up and running. The Xperia 10 runs Android 9 Pie out of the box, which means you get access to all of the latest features of the OS. However, Sony has added its own overlay which is dramatically different than stock Android. If you’re coming from a phone from a different manufacturer, it will take you a little time to get used to it.
Over all this phone is not bad, but there are many other options for midrange phones that will give you better specs. If you’re main use for a phone, other than calls and texting, is watching video, then you will like the 21:9 aspect ratio display. Otherwise you may want to look elsewhere.

Very Good Mid-Range Android Phone

The Xperia 10 is an excellent mid-range Android phone. Just remember, this is not a "flagship" device and you should be very content with this purchase. Setup was a snap and took about 30 minutes (most of which was signing into various services). There were two things that took me a while to get used to, the finger print reader on the side and the extra tall aspect ratio, neither of which are deal killers.
One thing I was pleasently surprised by was the excellent screen on this device. It gets plenty bright and colors do appear to pop. Likewise, I was pleasantly surprised by the quality of the cameras on this phone. To me the pictures they capture appear on par with low-end flagship quality devices from just two years ago. I've yet to shoot video on the phone so I cannot speak to that.
Performance from a mid-range Android phone can be hit-or-miss at times but not with this phone. It was a very fluid experience with no hicups during my time using the device.
I used a SIM card from my GSM carrier and it worked perfectly most of the time. There were a couple of occasions where it lost signal but those were spotty coverage areas so I was not too worried.
If you don't want to pay $700 plus for a phone and have decided to go the mid-range route this is an excellent choice.

The phone is slim and very easy to hold, but it is very tall. Some might not like this, but just give it a chance. You will get used to it by the end of the first day.
Pros:
Screen
Battery
Cameras
Build Quality
Pro/Con:
Performance is on and off at times, but overall it's smooth
Cons: Reaching to the top can be a challenge, even for big hands like mine.
A little slow to navigate through menus at times
Fingerprint reader is on the slow side, and it's literally on the side. Left hand people might not like this.
Price is on the higher side, compared to what you can get from other OEMs that might offer more. You can find phones with better battery life, and better cameras for less with a bigger better screen.
All in all I'd recommend this phone to someone that doesn't want to spend a lot of money, but still wants a great daily phone. Battery is dependent on each user, so be mindful of that. But I think if you are not on this phone all day, it will last you a full work day. I measured 6.5 hours of actual screen on time usage, with 16 hours of standby. I watched lots of YouTube, and did a ton of text and emails . Instagram, twitter, etc. It held up very well. It's a good phone.

It has long and narrow screen and gorgeous display and different finger print sensor position but the rest are the same as other budget phone.
Performance is a bit slow. Battery life is pretty good. If you need a budget phone, this is very good. The built quality is super, it is what you expect from Sony.

This phone is tall and skinny, perhaps that is what allowed them to make the phone a higher resolution. I've seen nothing like it. Heck it reminds me of my remote from my Sony Trinitron size wise.
Anyhow, I open up the box and I find directions, cords and the phone...
Examining the phone, I see a slot for your Sim Card, Memory Card and...... Your volume buttons. The Sim Card slot is awesome, it's tool-less which people who want to use the phone in a hurry will appreciate. I had no problem setting it up with the SIM Card in fact it's the easiest tray I've worked with thus far.
I picked my plan, Net 10 Wireless for $20 a month which gets you 1GB High Speed LTE Data (2g there after) plus unlimited talk and text........ Important to know , this phone mostly works on GSM only. So if you have a provider that has GSM, you can use it with this plan. If you plan to use it with Verizon, your account needs a setting in order to use the phone on their service. I think it is called CDMALess or something.
Anyhow, I setup the phone and I am greeted by the usual Google fanfare and items from Sony. I complete the setup and toward the end of the setup , Sony or Google offers to download additional apps I like , I just said no....... And the setup respected my choice.
Within no time at all, the phone was up and running and I am getting LTE Plus speed on my device.
Taking a look at the features, you have lots of stuff you can do with the phone, use it for GPS, Go on Facebook, listen to the FM Radio built in with a headset, tune the audio and visual qualities of the phone and so forth. Speaking of audio, the speaker is pretty loud! I was listening to iHeart Radio and it was very loud at Max setting. I like that!
The Call quality? Yes it's awesome too! Crystal clear, and the reception inside my apartment from this phone is surprisingly good considering the location I am at in the building. Oh and the phone supports 5ghz Wifi band too! Score! Our router has Wireless AC so that is good!
Phone seems very responsive usage wise, I opted for Facebook Lite and Messenger lite instead of the full apps because of better usability and ridding of other features I don't use.
The display is very nice and it is easy to see. Maybe bump up the text to see but then again nothing bad..... It does a great job keeping the display clear and somewhat repels fingerprints. I am comparing that to the last phone I owned....
You most likely will need a case for the phone. I was able to find one online from a retailer before this phone arrived which I make it a point to get the phone outfitted in a case before any purchase or obtaining of a new phone and so forth.
I can't help but think of the retail price on this phone. It seems a bit much for the features that it has. I am not sure if brand name or quality , or an unlocked status of the phone can drive price, but it seems that it could be lower..... Not a deal breaker though as this is an awesome quality phone!
Please note the review above is the opinion of my own. I was provided this phone for free in exchange for an honest review and no other company has influenced me.

Mid-range Multitasker
|
Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
First lets get the whiners out of the way, you know, the ones that love big K's and swear their hawk eyes can see them. This display is "only" 1080 but ultrawide. At its size it gives it a 463ppi image. This is dense enough for a very smooth screen that can satisfy anyone except those that really think they can see the emperor's new clothes.
For a Mid-range the specs specs are pretty much on par with other phones. SD 630, LCD screen, etc. But what sets the Xperia 10 apart from the others is the looooooong screen. It's almost like holding a naked Hershey bar but no fear of it melting (I hope, lol). Because of the ultrawide screen this phone is made for a multi-tasker. Throw you messenger on one side and slap the browser on another. Open up Google sheets and Chrome side by side. Some apps won't work in multiscreen, like netflix, but Sony's version doesn't pause the app if it's not the one focused on. So a video won't pause while you're web browsing. Some version pause the inactive app.
The Xperia 10 comes with 64GB of storage plus an external mSD card slot that supports up to 512GB cards. Sadly adoptable storage isn't a option. You can go into Dev Settings and force apps to SD and move some of the apps to your SD card if you're strapped for space. I did have a bit of trouble getting the tray out since I keep my fingernails trimmed close.
The battery is only 2870mAh so a heavy user may need to keep a charging pack or spare charger around. From a 10 minute Netflix test it's possible to hit ~5.5hrs of streaming. I tested on Verizon, so throttled to 720p, 50% volume on the speakers, and 50% brightness. in 10 minutes it dropped 3%. I don't have the desire to do a full rundown because, honestly, I'll be asleep before it dies and miss my mark to take the measurement down.
The dual camera allows for depth sensing and gives the bokeh effect so many people have been digging. I never really like bokeh, even on my DSL-R. I like to see what's going on in the background I like natural photos instead of forced posing . The camera is just OK - probably about as good as a low to mid range Sony point and shoot. Nowhere near as good as RX100 but you can only expect so much from a tiny multinational device. Low light has some post-processing that removes noise, but diminishes the detail. In short, use the flash if you can.
One weird notice that pops up when you use the Creative effects is that it tells you that if the phone gets hot it's gonna shut down. Disheartening to see that message. Sony should have invested in better thermals if this is the case. I haven't gamed on it, but I'd suspect the a possible heat issue in gaming also.
I gotta commend Sony on their one handed use. They've added three features to help those that can't reach all the way up on the long screen. First is one-handed mode - double-tap the home button and the screen reduces to a floating, resizable screen that is easily navigated by your thumb. Double-tab home and you're back to full size.
Second- Side Sense. A floating small bar can be placed on one or both sides and the size, location, and transparency are customizable. Double tap the Side Sense and a quick menu pops up with easy access to frequently used apps and settings. Hitting the More Apps button and you have a mini app launcher that shows all your installed apps. I love this feature.
Last is swiping up or down anywhere on the home screen. Swipe down brings the notification shade down; Up brings the apps. Some launchers need to be swiped from the edges of the top or bottom. Sony's you can swipe anywhere... except from the home button. That actually launches the recent app list.
The built-in speakers are pretty impressive. Full volume and played Marley Marl's Symphony and had no distortion at all. It was loud enough to hear in the show with no problem. It did sound a bit boxy and mostly mid heavy. Tweaking the equalizer didn't change the quality much. Still it's good enough for most use and loud enough to annoy people in public.
I'm probably missing a few points that I had hoped to include, but I'm tired and need to get to bed. For about tree-fiddy this phone should definitely be on anyone's list that doesn't wanna roll on the $1k phone train. The Xperia 10 is fast enough, sharp enough, and has enough features to satisfy most folks.
I started the review at 83% and played videos while browsing and typing this review and it's down to 76%, that was 28 minutes ago.

First off I am not tech savvy. Package arrived and first off I noticed...no car charger. That was rude. I may survive. So, I had a Verizon sim card in my last phone, but when I tried it on this phone...no go. I ended up at the Verizon store where I went to a different plan and got a new sim car...all is good. Except my number did not migrate for 7 days. So, I had this really cool phone that had a temp number that no one knew, including me at first!!! Anyway, that was all Verizons issues. I finally can use the phone as MY phone. So, this is best described in a Pros' and Cons list:
Pro:
1)Skinny enough so you can use 1 hand
2)Pictures are GREAT
3)Phone sound is AMAZING
4) Watching a video is perfect (such as Netflix)!!! A bit smaller than previous phone
5) Skyping has excellent sound and video
6) There is a headphone jack!!!
Con:
1) keyboard is SO SMALL that if you have big hands...you are screwed
2)Recharging jack on this phone is NOT the typical one that everyone and their dog has been using for the past million years.
3)In settings things are worded differently just enough to confuse a non-tech person like myself
4) Video you take seems grainy
5) NO PHONE CASE YET and this is a very thin phone
6) I have mysteriously scratched the screen already and I have NEVER scratched a screen on a phone before.
7) The sim card door is EXTREMELY flimsy and cheap. Design is very poor for this phone
This phone replaced a phone that, I swear, Helen Keller designed. The on/off button was right on the middle of the phone, where one picks the phone up or holds it so I was constantly shutting the phone off- This phone has a great on/off button.
So far I really like this phone and we plan to have many happy years together. However I am still waiting for a phone/coffeepot combo.

Nice Mid-Range Phone

I must say I was happy to have the opportunity to review the Expedia 10 phone by Sony.
In general, I would say this is a very nice mid-range phone. My daily phone is a note 8 so of course it is a step down. But with that said I was impressed with the operation of the phone overall. I do like the size of the phone, it is tall but slender, so it fits well in the hand. This does make for a slightly smaller keyboard than I am used too, but I simply loaded my familiar keyboard, and all was good.
I wont dive too detailed into what is under the hood as you can read those specs in the description. I will say that even though it does not have the most RAM or highest end processor I found that most of the time this phone worked pretty smooth. Once in a while I notices a slight delay compared to my Note 8, but that is to be expected.
The Camera was not as impressive as the rest of the phone. I found a slight delay when attempting to capture some photos. The quality of the rear camera is average, but not great. The front camera again is just okay in good lighting, but low light it really has trouble with. Colors get blow out and pixelated.
Google assistant works well. Just hold the center home button down and tell the assistant what you want to do.
I must say that I am impressed with the side thumbprint reader. I like this better then the placement on my Note 8. Nice job here Sony.
Bluetooth worked fine on every device I connected except my Honda Accord. It took 2 attempts to connect but did work on the second attempt.
Wi-Fi was strong and fast (full 234Mbps down and 12 Mbps up) (I have Spectrum 200 Mbps service)
Data speed on the Verizon network was 33Mbps down and 21 Mbps up.
So, my bottom line on this phone…This is a very nice mid-range phone that would work great for the average user. If you are a power user or demand the best of the best, then not the phone for you.
If the camera was better and it was waterproof, I think this would have been my wife’s next phone, but since we are around water quite a bit in the summer, this just would not work for her.
Pros –
Nice feel
Runs smooth
Side thumbprint Reader
Cons –
Camera
Not waterproof
