For Those Who'd Rather Carry a Camera Than a Phone
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This phone is fantastic for a content creator that is familiar with photography principals. The RAW files it gives from all of its sensors are very usable and Sony's special photo/video apps are fantastic. You are not going to get the best out of it just shooting JPG; it really shines when you treat it as a camera--taking your photos into Lightroom/Capture One/etc. and giving them the time of day. This is a FANTASTIC tool for someone who wants to learn photography, as it not only encourages you to figure out how to do everything yourself, it has great built-in tutorials in both photography and videography using the phone. As mentioned, the apps are a far cry from the stock Android camera app. They show the real purpose behind the phone's display having a 21:9 aspect ratio: you get the full viewfinder, full controls (including a simulated wheel for adjusting shutter speed and ISO--this works well), and your mode dial/lens switching. The physical shutter button is very welcome and, for me, makes using the phone as a camera feel much better than tapping the display. It is all very intuitive if you are familiar with how cameras work. The cinematography app is extremely impressive. It creates directories and keeps the framerate/resolution the same for the whole project while giving you all of your settings right on the screen, as the photo app. The ability to preset and smoothly rack focusing is just...it's just so well implemented. Just plain awesome. If you just need to get a basic snap of a schedule or a quick video, or need to hand the phone off, there is a Basic mode that replicates the Android camera app. Image consistency between the four focal lengths is very good--it maintains color balance well despite using three different sensors of very different sizes and, despite the 16 and 70/105mm (equiv) lenses being noticeably weaker than the 24mm main shooter, moving between them isn't particularly jarring. I didn't find all but the main sensor to be essentially useless as I have in other phones. Other Quick Mentions: -Dual sim, with SIM2 slot doubling as a microSD card holder. The sim slot comes out without using tools, so you can slot the microSD into your computer at the end of the day and move off all of your photos/videos for storage and processing. +OLED display is absolutely stunning. +Stereo speakers sound great, especially with Dolby Atmos, a feature I usually don't care for. +Gaming on it is fine, Snapdragon 888 handles everything. +Battery life is fine. Light use, I'll easily get 3 days. Out shooting photo/video all day (10+ hours), I still make it home with a little battery to spare. +Size is similar to a Galaxy S9; I find it about perfect. /Need to use internal storage for many video modes, due to microSD cards being too slow. The quality is that good. -Limited case/accessory selection due to it being kind of a niche product. -Some Sony-isms. Might find a bug here or there; I've been able to deal with anything but I also have a lot of experience with Android. I have zero complaints. It feels like I wrote a letter to Sony asking for lots of things I figured I'd never get in a phone and, well, here it is. If you want a phone you can treat like a real camera, this is as close as you're going to get for a reasonable price (versus the Xperia Pro-I). It doesn't replace a real camera, but it does provide a more confidence-inspiring experience and compliments one's main kit well. I seriously think any content creator that picks up an iPhone/Galaxy over this is really selling themself short. At first, I thought it was too much of a niche product to recommend, but the more I use it, the more I can recommend it to customers with a serious interest in photo/video.

Perfect pocket size phone
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Perfect pocket size phone that fits in your hand. I've been using the Xperia series for quite some time since the Z3 came out a few years ago. I got to say the camera on this new device has improved a lot. The 30W wall charger gives you from 0 to about 65% in around 30-35 minutes. Battery life has also improved. There's the features many top brands dropped long time ago and makes me appreciate Sony even more; which is the 3.5mm headphone jack and the expandable memory card.

SD slot means memory for days
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Had it for a few weeks now, and it's a solid phone. My last phone was a Sony Xperia AX2, and I absolute loved it. I was super bummed that my phone company told me it was no longer gonna work. They also gave like no notice so I had about a week to find a new phone. I consider the Samsung Galaxy 21, Google Pixel 6, and the Sony Xperia 5 III. After comparing the three the Xperia was the clear winner. As a girl, all of my pants have teeny tiny pockets so size was a huge factor. It's a tad taller than my pervious phone but the same height as the other 2 phones I was looking at. It's pretty thin overall, the camera does stick up a little bit but with the case I bought it makes it flush. It's a tad narrow compared to other phones and it did take a little adjustment to get use to. Weight wise it is nice and light. The main buying factor in my opinion was the head Phone Jack and Micro SD card slot. While the audio jack isn't something I use all of the time, but it is handy enough to want one. The SD card shot thought is super mandatory for me. For a phone that's basic a camera that makes calls, having enough space to save photos is super needed. Speaking of memory 128gb is a plenty of space, but with the SD slot you can easily double it. The camera takes incredible pictures. You can use the basic camera, or you can adjust setting to get one that's just right. Plus the camera button is nice. You can either use the shutter button like a camera or the touch screen like other phones. The UI of the phone is pretty standard for Android, and it's easy to sort and move apps and icons. Sound quality for phone calls is good it doesn't sound muffed or anything like that. I have noticed that sometimes that screen will flicker greenish when it switches from the lock screen to the home screen. Lastly you are gonna want to buy a case and screen protector for it right away, Being a tad narrower than I am use to, I did drop it a few time the first few days. I couldn't find any cases on here so I got mine from Amazon. Even thought it was a bit more than I wanted to pay at this point in time, I am super happy with my purchase.

Good Overall Phone, Has Its Flaws
||Posted . Owned for 10 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Battery life, screen performance, audio are all great. The issues with this phone are in the charging port, aux port and fingerprint sensor. The charging port has steadily declined in performance since I got the phone and within 6 months, it no longer fast charges the phone and frequently thinks it has water in it for no reason. The aux port is the reason I got this phone but unfortunately, it has issues recognizing devices/cords unless they are plugged in in a particular order and even then, it sometimes doesn't work. Lastly, the fingerprint sensor is very finicky, needing a very dry finger inorder for it to work properly and as a result, it only unlocks the phone about 2 out of every 3 attempts.

Solid Phone with Some Caveats
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For the most part, I like this phone. I was keen on this phone because it doesn't have a camera cutout or a notch like most other android phones and iPhones. It also has a 120hz screen. The biggest downside is the camera could be better, especially in low light, and my Pixel 3 seemed to take better photos. It also can get very hot, particularly when it's paired with my Dash Cam or when I'm recording video on it. This in turn can affect its performance. Lastly, when I got it, the battery life was phenomenal lasted a day and a half of regular use. A year and a half in, I'm lucky if I get a full day, but that's to be expected as batteries degrade over time.

Best Smartphone I've Ever Owned!
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I've skipped around brands for years, using Apple, Samsung, OnePlus, and Sony devices. I can honestly say that no other brand can live up to the newest generation of Sony phones. Screen is amazing, battery life is incredible, and camera outperforms competition if you know what you are doing. It has a head phone jack and front facing stereo speakers, things the industry has completely forgotten about, but many consumers still want. I've only had this phone for a months, yet I can say it is the best smart phone I've ever had.

||Posted . It was alright ...
||Posted . Owned for 1.5 years when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I liked the phone at first but after using it for about a year things didn't go too well. The message app always had a notification bubble even though the phone updated a few times after it appeared and now the phone reboots randomly while I'm using it. Sometimes it crashes when I'm trying to take a picture while it's kind of warm and doesn't even save the picture it took. I guess a year is all it could take when just basic use for social media, talk, text, web and a little gaming here and there. Pro are it battery life, slim phone, nice color green and it was pretty fast for the most part.

Great Features
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I have been an LG user for many years, and I wanted something with similar features. This has a headphone jack, expandable storage, and a lot of camera controls. It is smaller and lighter than my old V50, in part thanks to the taller aspect ratio. I find it to be more comfortable to hold and easier to manage. The screen's high refresh rate makes it feel really responsive. The battery life is pretty good. I can make it until evening with about 25% left without much effort. I have had no issues on Verizon. The phone is really slippery, so I leave it in the case most of the time.

Terrible on Verizon
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First things first, I am a huge sony fanboy. I have been trying to get Sony phones on Verizon since the z2 which was released as the Z3V. I have used the sony a7 line and sony glass exclusively for my work. With that out of the way, this phone gets horrendous signal on Verizon. 5G is great when you're in an area that has signal, but as soon as you drop on to the LTE network be ready to get disconnected almost immediately. I have had to rejoin team calls 8 times in a 120 minute meeting before while not moving from my desk. I have been on hold with the doctors office and dropped the call while walking across my kitchen only to redial and be placed on hold again and have the call get dropped again. This is incredibly frustrating considering this is a core function of the device. The camera is pretty disappointing. I know this is not a flagship device but this phone replaced my 5 year old LG v30 and the camera is a Lateral replacement AT BEST. The anti-glare coating on the camera cluster is horribly hazy and catches the light anytime you are facing a light source. The front camera is grainy and washed out and nearly on par with my old z3v. If you try to use any apps that use the front camera it can't compensate for the 21:9 ratio and crops the image making it look even worse than it already does. Android 12 is not as great as I was hoping it would be either. Turning on or off wifi takes 3 button presses now as it has been grouped together under Mobile Data, which drives me nuts. There is no voicemail app, and there is no notes app or audio recorder. The photo pro app and cinema pro app don't have a software button for beginning recording or taking a photo. I didn't think this was a problem until I had my phone on my gimbal, which blocked the camera button, and I had not way to begin recording since the gimbal app was not supported on the Xperia. I have also found even when using a timed shutter that the act of clicking the shutter button with a case on the phone causes it to shake no matter how delicately you press it. Cases will need to come off to do any delicate shots with this phone. A software shutter button would have fixed this. The form factor and the Battery life were supposed to be the saving graces for me. The phone is incredibly comfortable in my hand. I love holding it and using it, going back to my old phones they feel so clunky and big. The battery almost always lasts all day and I can't complain about it, but if I can't use the device to make calls what's the point of it?

Modern performance with flexibility
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Android phones used to be more known for having more features and flexibility, and with that being less and less common as companies try to copy Apple, Sony sticks out in retaining those features that are not just unique to Andorid, but nowadays might be unique to Sony phones. It's got the performance of a modern phone, but the flexibility of older android phones. You want a headphone jack. It's there. You want to be able to put a 1 TB micro SD? Go ahead. The options are very much appreciated, and I hope Sony continues to make phones that continue on with having these kinds of features that used to be so common for Android.

Not bad
||Posted . Owned for 1 year when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This phone had all the features that mattered to me. It was compact and allowed SD cards. I didn't have it long before returning it. Im with Tmobile and I was told that this model would not be able to use certain features on Tmobiles network. I have owned Sony phones in the past back when Tmobile used to sell them. Sony has a history of their phones overheating. During my short time with the phone, I opened up the camera app. Within a few minutes the phone started heating up and I got a message saying that the phone needed to shut down. Not a good sign. I saw a few videos on youtube of people with similiar experiences.

Good phone at a horrible value
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Pros: Comfortable to hold, amazing looking display, clear audio output, no hassle connecting to verizon network. I highly appreciate the sd card port and headphone jack. Cons: Horrible selfie camera quality, the built in microphone audio has lots of scratchy, hissing noise. Phone overheats very fast, Overall software provided is lackluster at best. Getting parts to repair this phone or any sort of support in the future seems to be nonexistent.

Posted .Hi MichaelG, we're glad that you like the camera quality. The STAMINA mode prolongs the time until the battery needs charging by disabling some functions of the device. When you turn on the STAMINA mode, the display switches to the Dark theme mode.
Depending on the STAMINA level, different features will be restricted or disabled in order to reduce battery consumption. These include rendering performance, screen brightness, image enhancement, and GPS while the screen is off. Synchronizing of background app data or streaming may be disabled for some applications.
You can set the STAMINA mode to turn on or off automatically according to the battery level. Follow the on-screen instructions for detailed settings.
Find and tap [Settings] > [Battery] > [STAMINA mode].
Tap [Turn on now].
Hint
You can exempt applications from being optimized by STAMINA mode in the Power-saving feature menu.
