Has a hard time being a phone
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Has the minimum for support on GSM bands. I have never has issues with service on my prior device being an S10. I would never dip under 4 bars. Now I am constantly hovering on 3 to 2 bars and dropping service all together. This phone feels like an international model.

Known issue with motherboard
||Posted . Owned for 6 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great features, but I can not recommend purchasing this phone as it has a know problem of the screen becoming totally unresponsive after phone calls, requiring a restart. Sounds minor until you consider how many calls one makes in a day. Sony recommends doing a factory restart (who wants to be bothered with that) which does not resolve the problem. The actual solution, according to Sony, is replacement of the motherboard. An $800 phone should not have issues with the motherboard that requires returning the phone for repair.

It'll have to earn it.
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good phone, but not that good. First, it rattles; as in baby rattle. I own two of these, and both have the same rattle. It makes me question the quality. Second, a phone in this price range should have zero bloat-ware; this isn't the case. My previous Sony ZX1 compact gave me confidence, this one will have to earn it.

Great phone for the price
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Excellent phone overall, packs all the features I would have expected from a flagship two years ago. Pros: Beautiful and fluid screen, fast processor, sd card reader, headphone jack, IP68 water/dust resistance, good back camera, slim build is very compact. Cons: Front camera is less than ideal, photo and camera apps are a little confusing, slim build means small real estate especially for 16:9 videos. Android updates might be limited to android 13.

Bad Battery

Good feature set on an otherwise lackluster phone
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like the feature set of this phone (microsd/headphone jack) as well as the size, but it overheats, lost official software support in less than two years, and the fingerprint sensor died on me in one year. Will not be buying another Sony phone again.

Terrible on Verizon
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.First things first, I am a huge sony fanboy. I have been trying to get Sony phones on Verizon since the z2 which was released as the Z3V. I have used the sony a7 line and sony glass exclusively for my work. With that out of the way, this phone gets horrendous signal on Verizon. 5G is great when you're in an area that has signal, but as soon as you drop on to the LTE network be ready to get disconnected almost immediately. I have had to rejoin team calls 8 times in a 120 minute meeting before while not moving from my desk. I have been on hold with the doctors office and dropped the call while walking across my kitchen only to redial and be placed on hold again and have the call get dropped again. This is incredibly frustrating considering this is a core function of the device. The camera is pretty disappointing. I know this is not a flagship device but this phone replaced my 5 year old LG v30 and the camera is a Lateral replacement AT BEST. The anti-glare coating on the camera cluster is horribly hazy and catches the light anytime you are facing a light source. The front camera is grainy and washed out and nearly on par with my old z3v. If you try to use any apps that use the front camera it can't compensate for the 21:9 ratio and crops the image making it look even worse than it already does. Android 12 is not as great as I was hoping it would be either. Turning on or off wifi takes 3 button presses now as it has been grouped together under Mobile Data, which drives me nuts. There is no voicemail app, and there is no notes app or audio recorder. The photo pro app and cinema pro app don't have a software button for beginning recording or taking a photo. I didn't think this was a problem until I had my phone on my gimbal, which blocked the camera button, and I had not way to begin recording since the gimbal app was not supported on the Xperia. I have also found even when using a timed shutter that the act of clicking the shutter button with a case on the phone causes it to shake no matter how delicately you press it. Cases will need to come off to do any delicate shots with this phone. A software shutter button would have fixed this. The form factor and the Battery life were supposed to be the saving graces for me. The phone is incredibly comfortable in my hand. I love holding it and using it, going back to my old phones they feel so clunky and big. The battery almost always lasts all day and I can't complain about it, but if I can't use the device to make calls what's the point of it?

Lacking several key features
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. This is a great phone that lacks several key features. 1) No night mode. Low light pictures are unfortunately light years behind its competition that sells at half the price. If you have a tripod and use the shutter priority mode, you can take great night pictures but who has time for that. 2) No WiFi calling on Tmobile. Yes, this is a Tmobile issue but still if you have bad coverage inside the house like I do, you will have to download the Tmobile DIGITS app and use that in place of WiFi calling. Then you get all of your notifications twice. How fun. Definitely needs a case because the phone is very very slippery. On the plus side, Snapdragon 888, small form factor, dual SIM and headphone jack. Pretty much only phone out there that meets these requirements.
