Amazing phone, with unnecessary compromises

What is amazing: The design of the phone (feel in hand and weight), the screen, the headphone jack and extra features missing from other phones, and OBVIOUSLY the camera What is NOT amazing: No wireless charge?? And the selfie camera is HORRIBLE. I'm shocked at the omission of these things in an $1,800 smartphone. Shame on SONY. The Camera: If you enjoy photography on a "real" camera, then you will LOVE the experience on this phone. I've shot with both the Xperia 1 III and this Pro-i. Both are amazing, but I have to say this Pro-i can take some UNREAL photos. With good lighting you see VERY accurate colors and nearly zero grain (at lower ISO). At night... it's really hit-or-miss. You almost have to shoot in basic mode and take advantage of more of the computational photography (kicks in on basic). It does help in this mode, but for such a large sensor... with even a so-so "night mode" on the phone... it would have been a game changer. SONY puts all their chips in the sensor, and less in the software like Google. Conclusion: I love this phone. But I have a really hard time looking past the HORRIBLE selfie camera quality, and no wireless charging. Oh... and good luck finding a case to protect this investment. Anyway, the phone is not worth $1,800, but probably is at $1,500 or so. SONY overprices... but the market is limited in the U.S.... so, I get it.

All of that and Sony's stock android OS with better camera apps make a fabulous phone.

I was a Sony guy in 80s and 90s. Phone had issues. It would randomly reset and only load apps after initial login. Required a full reinstall of operating system to try and address. Photos and text messages wouldn't always come through. Camera not as good as hyped. Screen cracked from a drop of 15 inches with a case on it. Not worth the $300 and month time to send it off to get it fixed. Going back to Samsung Galaxy flagship. Never had issues with the S series Galaxies. Sorry Sony. Gone for good.

One of the best ways to resolve any software-related issues with your Xperia is using the Xperia Companion Sofware. This will help you installing new software updates and perform a software repair: https://www.sony.com/electronics/support/articles/00236877. With regard to the cracked screen, unfortunately, it is not covered by the manufacturer's warranty. You can also contact your local dealer to check if you have an accidental protection plan for your Xperia.
