Hidden Gem - Premium feel - Best Unlock Bargain

    Posted .

Sony did an amazing job at setting the bar really high for the economic market. This is an amazing phone with premium everything, unlocked and affordable at $250 on sale. The best option being offer right now. Basically what Sony has done is to give you a taste of their Z3 premium product with just one missing part, the speed / performance. Everything else is present. Huge 6 inch screen. You become spoil by all the real state real quick, but it is not for everyone. Such a huge screen is more for the office guys, texting from your desk etc. This is not a one hand operation phone, this is definitely not the phone to text and drive, almost impossible, you literally need both hands to operate a machine this size. The plastic built and the size of the phone makes it a bit fragile, definitely not for those who work outdoors, etc. it does bend and you could damage it by sitting on it when you have it on your back pocket. Motorola did a better job of squeezing a 6 inch screen on a much smaller body with much better ergonomics. Continuing with the design, the buttons layout are bad, make no sense. The power button looks more like a camera shutter release, the actual camera shutter button looks like a power button, and the volume rocker is so short that can also be confused with power button. Then the power plug and headphone plug on each side of the top side corners of such a wide phone, makes those cables stick out in a way that makes it difficult to operate the phone when connected and also you could damage the plugs, not smart design. Last but not least with the design issues is the sim card slot, it is made to fail, this is not the phone to be swapping sim cards, one of the metal pins eventually fail and made the phone useless, would not read the sim card anymore. Design conclusion, it is a fragile phone not only by its size, but also by design. This is not the phone to take a beat down or to be use by people who doesn't treat their equipment with care. I took a trip to Florida with this phone and tried to use it on the really fun Fiat 500 that I rented but the car would not read the memory card full of music I had on this phone. The Fiat had no problem reading my iPhone 5. But this is not a Sony issue, this is just an Android problem, that makes Apple looks really good, Apple products function and works as designed when you must needed, so I had fun on the Fiat 500 controlling my iPhone. Kudos to Apple! Moving on to the POSITIVE... Visual... Beautiful high definition screen but with some what bland colors, is like a meal that has good flavor but is lacking some kick, salt or spice :) But the lack of contrast actually makes the screen really easy on the eyes, it is a delight to read my Kindle collection of books on this phone because the size and how beautiful and sharp the screen is. Sound... Wonderful HIFI sound from this device and you don't even need to download a music app because the included Sony Walkman music app is wonderful, great sound effect and plenty of options and customization. The phone produces good volume. I did notice that the phone does have issues with compressed music files, the same files that sounds fine on my hTC desire, on the Sony sound with all the sparks of an old record, very annoying. Also, this phone has more trouble the most other phones connecting to new bluetooth devices. At times I had to delete all other previously connected devices in order for the phone to sync with a new introduced bluetooth speaker. Battery.... The best battery I ever seen or experience. This phone would take a constant punishment of usage and the battery just won't give up, really last a long time. I think for a regular user this phone could easily last between 1.5 to 2 days with one charge. Kudos for the stamina setting included that further the battery even more without making the phone useless, must functions remain the same but it helps conserve battery. The battery also charges really fast, 4 hours from 10% to 100%. User Interface.... Sony did a good job with their implementation of Android. This phone allows for so much customization that are actually useful to me the user, I was able to setup this phone exactly how I liked it. I was not too keen on Sony launcher so I downloaded the Nova Launcher and that made the user inter face just perfect. This phone has all the bells of the Samsung note, the one handed keyboard, access to the notification bar from the bottom of the screen. I really like all the settings available by Sony to improve on all the lacking of Android, well done. Some people like phones that provide native Android experience because of the lack of bloat, but then you also miss out on all the unique and cool tools that a company like Sony includes. Must of what Sony included I found really useful, but yes the phone felt bogged down by all the extra stuff that Sony added. But now that I am using a native Blu Phone, I am missing most of what Sony spoiled me with... Go figure! Keyboard... I actually found it very easy to type on the supplied keyboard with minimal errors and no need for anything else. Good customization, good options, good layout of the texting real state. The only issue I had was selecting text and just editing text in general, not accurate selection and just a weird implementation. Camera... It actually has a good camera that is only limited by the over processing of the software. Sometimes I was able to get less processed images by the use of some of the filters included but those filters also added color hues, but at least gave me more image detail and sharpness. Overall I was happy with the look of the images I took with this phone. My iPhone camera has less options but it is light years better in terms of being smart on its on by producing better results, but compared to all other budget phones on the market, including the BLu, Moto G, Galaxy Mini, etc, this phones produces much better image results. The only issue with the camera is how slow it is to load up, to focus and most times it doesn't focus well at infinity. Your macro shots will be in focus but your landscape shots will not. Performance... So Sony gave us a sample of all the good that they can offer on this budget phone, but with a catch. The more you load this phone with all the apps that you use and love, the worse this phones it gets with speed. The phone is always drawing a blank with everything you ask. Even to open the text app takes a while. Connectivity.... I connected with a ATT sim card from Straight Talk and I always had good signal and fast LTE speeds. I did have issues receiving MMS messaging but that was a setting issue, I just didn't research how to correct it. Conclusion.... We all get very exciting with these new generation of budget unlock phones, but they always missing something that makes them useless and every disappointing in many ways. Most other manufacturer are choosing the route of enticing you with beautiful large screens on budget phones, but the rest of the phone is useless. Sony took a different approach, they gave you a taste of all the premium features so you can discover what it is to ride inside of a Mercedes Benz cabin and all the accommodations, but with the engine of a scooter under the hood.

Very nice phone for the price with good quality and doesn't feel cheap. Beautiful 6 inch screen and with 1.4Ghz Quad core processor speed which is good enough. 13Mpixel camera allows you to get good photos. And to my surprise battery life of 3000Mah easily hold a day.

This was a really good pickup. The screen is great and the phone hasn't shown any signs of lag so far. I'd definitely recommend buying it. Plus it's a bonus being able to use it on multiple carriers.

    Good Value

I was looking for a reasonably priced, good performing, large screened smartphone. - I broke my current handset, wasn't eligible for an upgrade (at reasonable cost), and still had too long to run on my contract to just bail out. So this was my solution. Screen on this phone is huge, bright and easy to look at, and the camera at 13MP is very good. - Sony has some nice photo Apps/features too. Sony's android interface is slick, and not too removed from the vanilla. All in all, its a nice phone and feels pretty nimble, apps open quickly, and browser pretty snappy. Of course, if you are looking for cutting edge, fastest phone out there, then you need to adjust your budget up by another $400 or so, but for the $$, I'm very happy with the phone. If, like me, you want good performance, at reasonable cost, this phone is a compelling buy.

    Better than expected

Background: With my previous provider, I had a Galaxy S III. When switching, I first tried, but was dissatisfied with the Moto G 2nd Gen. As I type this, I currently have this phone. I had initial trepidations considering the rather awful misfortune I had with prior Sony products, but here we go. First Impressions: The first thing that stands out is simply, the screen. I knew it was going to be big with a 6" screen, but it's another thing entirely when you actually have it in your hand. It's also unexpectedly light. Even for the price, it has a premium feel that few phones at this price can replicate. Pro's: + With Bravia Engine enabled, the screen does remain properly bright and colorful, regardless of playing games like Sonic 2, or streaming movies or videos from Netflix and YouTube respectively. + Enormous screen + Stunningly light for its size + I've got a surprising amount of mileage out of its battery; more than I would have expected for its specs + Hey, an actual dedicated Camera button, with two-mode pressing. + No need for an extra app to pair up a PS3 controller with the phone + Appears to have support for LTE, HSPA+, 3G and apparently even CDMA. + A more appreciable replacement for the capabilities of the Samsung S 3, than the Moto G was. + Impressive battery life, even with prolonged LTE streaming Cons: - Integrated battery is still a turn-off for me. - Front-facing camera is awful. - Stock charger simply can't output enough to use the phone thoroughly while charging - microSIM drawer is flimsy; I thought for a moment that I'd broke this thing by accident, before realizing that is how it was intended to work. - Only 4GB of internal storage is usable - 1GB of internal RAM creates unnecessary lag when switching through different apps Ugly: ~ I think I may have a defective unit, as it currently has been unable to connect or remain connected to any WiFi, including at home. ~ Fingerprint magnet finish ~ Since it's not an iPhone or Samsung Galaxy phone, most local outlets simply don't seem to carry any accessories to make the most of this phone. ~ Even at the maximum volume, neither the loudspeaker nor main speaker are very loud; moreover, the loudspeaker's placement makes it easy to muffle and obscure. Final Thoughts: There's a lot to like about this phone. PlayStation fanatics would eat it up for its inherent support for PlayStation-centric stuff. The large screen is big enough for even those with larger hands to be able to type and text without typo'ing all the time. But some of the stuff being held back in its specs, mostly its available RAM and storage, keep it from really being a true high-end replacement. That said, I can totally understand now why the Xperia line has such appeal now.

I was thinking of buying a phablet (Phone and tablet in one) until I chanced upon this smartphone on BestBuy.com. It is an unlocked phone. That day I immediately ordered it and received the package after 3 days. After unboxing, I was really blown away by its huge size. I thought iPhone 6+ was huge but this one is bigger. I love my new phone and it is always a head turner.

If you want a phone and a tablet this is the one. I have a tablet that I don't use anymore because this phone is large enough to see everything I need to see. You can't beat the price point of this phone and all the features. This was going to be a back-up phone but I ended up making it my main phone so I don't have to cary my tablet. My first phablet and loving it. The battery life is really awesome. With moderate use I charge it every other day. You will need deep pockets or a purse because this phone is big. I do recommend a good case.

    pretty cool phone!

obviously the first thing to come to mind when looking and holding the phone is the size, its got amazing characteristics to help with the size, and one heck of a display! the tech has a "one handed" mode to allow ease of access so you do not have to use both hands to execute vital functions leaving you able to drink your coffee, browse, read..etc ;) the display itself is vibrant, stunning, crisp, clear, bright and fully customizable. the only downside initially is how skinny the phone is, making it lighter than any other phone I've owned while also having a factory claimed resistance to water so i purchased an aftermarket water/shock/dust proof case made by love mei. i also have an iPhone 5 for a work phone and this phone kicks its but hands down, its got more features than i even know what to do with, took about 2 hours total to set up from start to finish-including downloading all my aftermarket apps-syncing them/looging in, setting up my display pages and layers, the battery has been equally impressive considering the size and beauty of the display and its processing capabilities... so far the longest I've ran without charging it with normal use/ and internet browsing was nearly 3 full days! wifi running 24/7, including my son playing his apps here and there. overall i love the phone, excellent battery, display simply...-has no equal, interface is almost too user friendly, and i hope that with the new case it protects the phone in its entirety and makes it virtually indestructible... for one you cant beat this price for anything else on the market, and id bet this phone is better than 90% of the popular majority, and being out the door for 200$ no contract (micro sim, if you have a reg sim, cut it down to fit... you will not be disappointed!)

I purchased the phone over a month ago. I like the screen, video and photo resolution, except the audio quality. Speaker is kind of low and when I connect my headphones to it the volume is low. Everything else I like including the price.

    Great Phablet

    Posted .

I'm using this phone in Chicago with T-Mobile and so far it's a good experience. The back of the phone has a high gloss finish so a case is recommended. I got an incipio case and a 32GB micro SD from Amazon for under $35. The screen is big and vibrant works well with Netflix, Navigation, and Email. My job enforces a Google device policy which requires encrypting the phone. I found no noticeable performance decrease after encryption. Already installed many apps along with 2 gmail accounts and the phone keeps chugging away. I'm really glad I found this device as I was not ready to pay 650+ for one of the top shelf phones. I was ready to hold onto my 2010 mytouch 4G for a while longer, until I found Sony's T2 Ultra. It doesn't have the best hardware specs but I believe the user experience is not far off from what one would get in current leading phones. I was initially worried about the phones low RAM but it seems that it was well optimized for the 1GB it has. Finally, the battery life on the phone is outstanding. I can use the phone for 2 days without having to charge it. I can now watch a Netflix show at the Gym, listen to Soundcloud in the car, make phones calls, Email, Facebook, without having to worry about battery life. Charging also seems quite fast. How well will the non-removable battery hold up only time will tell. If you're looking for a for sleek, competent, and modern phablet type device you should definitely consider the T2 Ultra.
