The main selling point for me was that you can use it comfortably with one hand (as a medium-sized woman). And I like the side buttons, including the dedicated camera button. Not having a working fingerprint sensor (in the U.S.) is a drag.

Sony did it again with the Xperia line. X compact goes back to a simpler time of smaller phones and useful apps.

I've had this phone for about a month, and it's perfect so far. Sony makes the best smartphones I've ever seen, and this is the best one I've used yet.

I received the phone and once setup it worked like a charm.... for a month. After a month I happened to unintentionally to let the battery drain off and after that, I was never able to recharge it again. Letting the battery drain off happens to everybody at some point and there is no reason for this to be an issue, but exploring the Internet I found out that this is not all that unusual for Xperia. So I called support and they insist on having me reset the phone even though I kept on telling that the phone was literally "dead" (how am I supposed to reset it?). Eventually they tell me to return it for repair. Now comes the worse. I am unhappy about not being with a phone, particularly since they tell me it takes 14 business days for repair, but I send it anyway. After two weeks I call for status and they tell me that they just received the phone. I tell them that is impossible because the tracking number says it was delivered more than a week ago. They check and they tell me: "oh, that is because the phone arrived to our warehouse last week, but our repair department just received it. We have 14 business days to repair after we receive it." What the heck! Is that my problem? Hey, nobody is perfect and once in a while we get unlucky and get the one in a million deffective phone. But then I expect a good company to apologize profusely and either send me a new phone, or to repair my deffective one immediately and with courtesy. I think I may have bought my last Sony product ever. Such a pity, it used to be an excellent company.

    Best compact phone

I owned both the X and the X compact for a month before I decided which to keep. Originally I purchased the X. I fell in love with it, especially the camera. It was a tad heavy and the battery wasn't as great. So I sprung for the X compact. I used both phones for a week before I decided on keeping the compact. The X compact has a better battery thanks to the 720 screen vs 1080. It's only visible of you look REALLY close. The same picture taken with the 23mp camera zoomed in looks clearer on the bigger X model. Other than that, the white balance is slightly yellowish on the X compact vs the X. As far as the camera is concerned...It's the same. No difference. Even the ISO and shutter speed came dead even or close to it when side by side pics were taken. It's a joy to hold vs the bigger X model. A lot more comfortable. More slippery, I recommend a case. Yes, it's thicker, but because it's lighter and noticeably shorter, it's way easier to pocket. I chose this model because the screen on time is better by an additional hour or more depending on usage. I come home with the battery at 45-55% vs 25-35%. The market for compact phones is very small but Sony did an excellent job in making a reliable phone with an awesome camera. You'll have 5-6 updates out of the box from 6.0 to 7.0 + February security patch. I recommend doing all that and then reset again. The UI is smooth, and games play with a great frame rate. It DOES GET WARM with heavy browsing or extended game play. Be cautious. I baby my phone battery as to avoid it wearing so quick. Hope this helps.

I selected this smartphone because it was the size I was looking for, an android and it advertised a 23MP camera. Unfortunately, the photos taken are the worst I have seen on my smartphones. I had a chat with SONY to find out if there was a software upgrade and there is none. By that time, it was too late to return the phone to Best Buy.
