I like the size of the phone as it is not too big. The screen is sharp and looks great. The camera is fantastic!!
It is easy for me to transfer all my data from the old phone to the new one. The apps work way faster than my old Xperia.

Sony makes great products. Sony is usually expensive but solid. Sony however will never be up to pat with Samsung on phones

Was not comfortable in using it since I had an iPhone earlier. It does the work required that is make calls ,but once you have got used to the other brands like Samsung and iPhone you won't be comfortable with using this. Though it never gave me trouble from hardware perspective

I love my Sony xperia compact xz. The guerilla glass screen is very smooth and does not collect dust and dirt easily at all. Love the loop features the phone sits very well in my hand. Turn it sideways and it looks like a camera. Very stylish. Android run os is unexpectedly great.

When buying a new tech product (like a phone) I try to research what's out there. I usually buy budget phones, but now wanted something that is faster and more reliable. While looking online and in stores I kept noticing the Sony brand. A Best Buy store in the area had the XZ1 on display and on sale, and the phone had some nice features that caught my attention. I’m not a phone expert but I’m somewhat picky about the tech I buy. After owning the XZ1 a few days, I can say I'm glad I paid some extra money and bought this phone.
Here’s what I like about it.
+Phone feels well-made and buttons are in the right places. Power button is easy to use and to find (indented halfway down on the side). Phone has a bit of weight to it which I like. Some people say design is old but I don’t really care about screens with no bezels or curved corners. I think the design looks good.
+Great screen especially for a smaller phone. You might notice 720p on a giant phablet, but it looks just fine on a smaller phone screen. Gorilla glass 5 feels smooth and screen is very responsive.
+Compact size makes it easy to use phone with one hand. It’s amazing how much they packed into this small phone.
+Has a really fast processor and has 4gb RAM. Hasn’t slowed down, even with multiple apps open. Internet is very fast. Specs are similar to flagship phones.
+Nice features like 3D creator, super slow motion camera, two front speakers that are loud, headphone jack (I know, right?), and the latest Android OS called Oreo. Reviews say the OS is close to the original stock version.
+Can do PlayStation remote play (lets you play games from your PS4 over Wi-Fi to your phone). Not sure if other phones can do remote play, but this (and other Sony phones) can. Got it working right away and it somehow ran better at a relative’s house than at my place. Games can be played with on-screen buttons but the controller is much better. PS4 controller connected with no problems.
+Fast charger. Charged phone completely in about two hours from 1% battery life. Battery lasts a day with normal usage and with Wi-Fi and Bluetooth connected to my smart watch. Battery did drain from 40% to 20% in an hour or two the other day while testing the camera and 3D creator, and maybe using a brighter screen.
+Works great with my Gear S2 3g smart watch. The watch doesn’t have a phone plan but it can still make and receive calls and texts just fine through the phone’s Bluetooth.
+I'm no phone camera expert but the camera seems very good. Phone has a dedicated camera button on the side. When the phone is locked the camera app can be opened immediately by holding the button down a couple seconds.
Here are some minor things I don’t like.
-About a third of the 32gb storage is taken up by the operating system.
-Fingerprint sensor is there (on the power button), but the U.S. version of this phone has it deactivated for some reason. I knew this when I bought it, but the phone demo does have a small section mentioning the sensor feature. People might not know it doesn’t work until after buying the phone. Hopefully Sony will be able to resolve this and have an update to use the sensor.
- Have to wait and buy a good case online since the phone isn’t very common. Doesn’t come with any type of case. I think Best Buy sells a case in the store but it might not be for everyone.
-The AVG security app pre-installed in the phone has a notification that wouldn’t go away until I force closed the app. It came back when I started the app again. Kind of annoying. Pre-installed apps can’t be uninstalled from the phone but they can be disabled.
-3D creator is tricky to use at first. Lighting conditions need to be right and if you mess up you have to start over again. Slow motion camera is grainy in low light and also needs good light to work well.
Any high-end phone will seem great when going from using budget phones all the time, but I really do like using the XZ1 Compact. To me this phone is fun to use and is unique. It’s also not bad that the sale price was half the price of some flagship phones.

Originally, I was thinking of getting the pixel 2 because I wanted the latest version of Android (8.0 Oreo). But I found out that the XZ1 Compact comes with Android 8.0 as well and I like the smaller size.
The XZ1 Compact packs a lot of features in a small size. I love how fast the phone is with the snap dragon 835 processor, everything loads fast and feels really snappy. The best feature though, is the size. I like how it easily it fits in my pockets and how comfortable it feels. It really is a pleasure to be able to use your phone with one hand.
The camera is really good too! The slo mo camera is ridiculously impressive with good lighting. I can't believe a phone can record slo mo better than most DLSR cameras.
I got the phone 5 days ago, so I haven't had the phone long enough to gauge how good the battery is. Although, I get about 1.5 days off battery life per charge.
Overall I love the phone and highly recommend it.

I was happy with this phone initially, because I wanted to be. I couldn't get myself to be upset with it after spending 600$ on something thats having the same problems xperias have had for years. A poorly functioning camera app that force closes, terrible picture quality (I told myself it took great pictures, but the reviews are true, the camera really is terrible. At least when it works it is), disfunctional Bluetooth and wifi connections that aren't local to Android 8. Sony has had issues with Bluetooth and wifi in previous models. Spyware from Sony and Google embedded in everything. You can't use any of the apps that manage the battery or the clock, or widgets, or keyboard, or background processes without subjecting yourself to the incredibly amount of bloatware Google and Sony have on here that's unable to be disabled or uninstalled. That's nothing new to Android, but Sony has outdone themselves.
To go a little beyond that, Sony makes it impossible to disable the App, "what's new," because that app is tied to software updates. Both the notifications for software updates themselves and the What's New app, run in your background and send you Advertisements about "suggested apps from sony"
To sum it all up.
Sony has made it impossible for me to disable ads or mute notifications for suggested games I should download, and places advertisements on my lock screen.
Advertisements.
The phone force closes at least once a day. It'll then hang up while trying to restart itself, and slowly cook itself until I can do a hard reset.
The camera takes terribly cartoony pictures, when it actually works.
Bluetooth and wifi connections are useless and restart my phone,
The touch screen hangs up, and then restarts my phone.
The battery life seems pretty good, but it's a brand new phone, I expect to get a day out if it. Itd be a lot better if I could disable all of the Sony spyware that runs in the background.
The "fiberglass" shell is paper thin. If you wanted to snap this thing in half you easily could. I'd rather have poor signal and a phone that will survive more than 5 months then this thing. Especially considering the few options you have for a case.
You've read all if the pros about his thing, the great hardware and size, but the truth is,
Sony advertises on your lock screen.
Think about that before you spend the money. Really think about that.
I spent 600$ on this thing and can't return it. That was my mistake.
