Customers are saying
Customers express satisfaction with the Xperia XZ2's camera, praising its ability to take crystal clear pictures. The phone's battery life is also well-received, with users describing it as "top notch." While some find the design simple and clean, others criticize the phone for being slippery. The lack of a 3.5mm headphone jack is another point of contention among users.

Great Phone
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Sony Xperia XZ2 is an excellent Android phone with just a few of points to keep in mind. Construction is on par with other flagship phones. The phone has a good weight to it; not heavy but solid. It fits well in the hand but is a bit slippery without a case. One note about the design: Forget setting it on a flat surface as that lovely curved back causes it to spin like a child's toy. The display looks great. While it is only an LCD, colors are vivid and it offers plenty of brightness. The primary camera is centered on the back of the phone, which is really nice as it helps avoid your fingers getting in the shots. Pictures are sharp, with plenty of detail and good color representation. The new portrait mode/bokeh effect is nice, but can be hit or miss depending on the shot. The fingerprint sensor is placed at the center-back of the device and is very responsive. While I feel it being on the back of the phone is actually ideal, it is easy to mistake the camera for the fingerprint sensor and accidentally smudge your lens. The dual front-facing speakers sound amazing. Yes, stereo and front-facing! This a feature I have greatly missed since my old Moto X. However, like so many other current flagships, there is no headphone jack, which is...annoying. There is a dongle included in the box to go from USB-C to headphone, which is something, I guess. Android Oreo is installed by default. It is quick to boot and very responsive on the device. It has been skinned by Sony, but only lightly as most of the OS looks nearly stock. And bloatware has been kept to a minimum.

Powerful, slim Smartphone
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Sony Xperia XZ2 is a beautiful, slim package smaller yet more powerful in every way than its predecessors while providing a 5.7" screen. The reduced bezel sizes provide the slimmer build so it's more comfortable and more usable in most people's hands. I won't list all the specs here since they should be readily available on Best Buy's page for the XZ2. However, its case is Gorilla Glass 5 front & back & it NEEDS A CASE AS FAST AS YOU CAN PUT ONE ON IT!!! It's so slick that you WILL drop it or it will slide off a table at the slightest vibration or movement, in part due to its curved back. This is one phone you simply can't lay down naked and forget it - it will end up places you never intended where it will cost you real money in damage, without a case! Reminds me of watching a bobsled at the winter Olympics. It runs Android Oreo 8.0 out of the box with the new Snapdragon 845 processor, 4 GB RAM & 64 GB drive. Android means enough settings to customize the XZ2 to your liking. It includes a micro-SDcard slot for additional storage up to 400 GB if desired. This thing is very fast and nimble. Opening, closing or swiping the screen brings about instant action with no indication of lag in any way. Games play at blazing speeds. You will not be disappointed with its smoothness or speed. The 5.7" screen is IPS FHD+ (2160 x 1080) with an 18:9 aspect ratio. Sony provides settings to adjust screen color to your choice so even without an AMOLED screen, it provides a bright and colorful screen. Its improvement in processor and software allows 4K video and super slow motion, in short bursts for slo-mo. Its HDR ready screen offers the ability to "convert" SDR video to HDR for better viewing purposes/color. It offers 3D scanning from both front and rear facing cameras for creating avatars or even other applications. It has front-facing stereo speakers that are louder than before along with the expected Sony audio quality built into its software/hardware. There's no physical headphone jack but there is a headphone jack dongle for those preferring a physical connection rather than BT. It offers an enhanced rumble (vibration) ability keyed to the sounds in an app, movie or game (it is fully adjustable or can be turned off entirely). This is strictly a personal preference item, but it seems to be more useful with games - you'll just have to try it yourself since everyone will be different in what they like. It has all the latest connectivity so it will hang onto a signal wherever possible. LTE offers up to 1.2 Gigabit speeds down. NFC is there as is a standard Fast Charger or you can obtain a wireless charger (QI) so it will recharge quickly. Battery life is really good with heavier usage seeing a full day's use on a charge. The fingerprint sensor on the back of the phone is quick & effective. Once you're used to its location in the very center well below the camera, you won't have trouble finding it. It has water/dust resistance so no need to be concerned about getting caught in the rain or dusty areas where you still need to use your phone. There are only three buttons on the phone, all on the right side. Top right is the volume rocker, the middle is the power button and lower right is the dedicated camera shoot button. Other than these you only have the micro-SDcard slot on the top & USB-C power port & mic port on the bottom. Of course, on the back is the fingerprint sensor, camera, flash etc. I've found this phone to be attractive (comes in 4 colors), easily held/carried (with a case!) with a good-size screen for your use. It's fast & has everything needed by most. That's not to say you can't find a phone with a higher res screen, or a bigger screen, or a fancier camera, or a built-in stylus, or more RAM, or...something. The XZ2 offers an exceptionally attractive, slim, powerful phone that will handle most any job for most people, and it will do it quickly and smoothly all day long. I like this phone.

Very nice high end Smartphone!
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Although I have had Android flagship phones for work phones for several years now (S7 is my current work phone), my personal phone has been Windows for quite some time. With Microsoft dead ending development of Windows 10 Mobile, and so few options available (my last windows 10 mobile phone was an Alcatel Idol 4s), I decided to move over to Android for my personal phone. This is my first all glass smartphone. It is a bit slippery, but I added a textured case that makes the back of the phone easier to grip. The display is great, and can show HDR (High Dynamic Range) video. YouTube in HDR looks great. The camera can do full HD super slow motion 960 frames per second video recording for about 3 seconds. This works great and is easy to use. There is no headphone jack on this model, but it does come with a USB-C to headphone adapter to get around this, but I'm not sure why more and more phones are ditching the headphone jack. I used mine with Bluetooth ear buds and that worked very well. The phone running Android Oreo is very snappy, performs very fast in apps and is GREAT at running intensive games smoothly. This phone has an option to add haptic feedback to music and games (think console game controllers vibrating to action in the game). A little gimmicky, but I actually really like it for movie trailers for instance. It took a bit to get used to the fingerprint scanner located at the center of the back below the camera, but I am doing well with it now. This phone compares very favorably to my wife's Samsung S8+ from last year, probably due to the faster processor in the XZ2. For those who like to be in the forefront with software updates, the XZ2 should be one of the first phones (after Google's own Pixel phones) to get access to Android P, later this year.

The (almost) perfect phone
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Sony Xperia XZ2 incorporates an ideal blend of features and technology that can be enjoyed by both power users and general consumers alike. The snappy Octa-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 845 processor can tackle multitasking and gaming with easy, 4GB of RAM to handle those resource intensive apps, 64GB of on board storage for your apps/data with the ability to add a microSD card of up to 400GB, dual SIM slot, a large 5.7” touchscreen, a 3180 mAh Battery to get you through the day, and so much more. The Sony Xperia XZ2 is sold as an unlocked phone, so you don’t have to worry about whether or not the phone will work with your provider. As long as you have a Nano SIM card, you’re good to go. This review will have a partial focus on the experience that was had on the T-Mobile network, to give you an idea of what to expect if you purchase this phone and use it with T-Mobile. I will also be going through several points of discussion regarding the Sony Xperia XZ2 ranging from good to not so good. Amazing solid build quality When you are holding the Sony Xperia XZ2, you know that you’re holding onto a serious device. It doesn’t feel like a toy or something that you would want a five year old to play with. It has a nice and hefty feel to it without being heavy or weighing down your hand and the curves on the device makes it easy for you hold onto the phone. The Sony Xperia XZ2 is IP68 rated, meaning that the phone is protected from dust and can also withstand being submerged in 5 feet of static water for up to 30 minutes. A big screen for all of your HD content and more The 5.7" TRILUMINOS touch screen provides ample viewing room to enjoy a myriad of content, whether it be movies, TV shows, play a game, or everything else in between. The screen is made out of Gorilla Glass 5, so you can worry less about scratches and focus more on what you’re doing with the phone. 19.0MP rear/5.0MP front-facing camera and Sony’s Motion Eye (record at up to 960 frames per second) The Sony Xperia XZ2 sports a 19.0MP rear-facing camera and a 5.0MP front-facing camera, so that you can snap high quality photos of whatever is in front of or behind the phone. The camera can be accessed by holding down the dedicated camera button on the bottom right side of the device. You can also use this same button as the shutter to take a photo on either the front or rear-facing camera. The Motion Eye on the Sony Xperia XZ2 allows you to record video at up to 960 frames per second, making for some cool slow motion videos. Motion Eye is only available on the rear-facing camera. Wi-Fi Calling (still trying to get this to work) The Sony Xperia XZ2 does support Wi-Fi calling, but in order for it to work, you must have a provider that supports the functionality of Wi-Fi calling. My provider does offer Wi-Fi calling and prior to moving to the Sony Xperia XZ2, Wi-Fi calling was working perfectly fine. For whatever reason, I have been having trouble getting this feature to work. I can’t even access the Wi-Fi calling menu through typical methods. In order to access the menu for Wi-Fi calling, I first had to disable my cellular connection and enable and connect my Wi-Fi. When I try to make a call, the Xperia will prompt me about activating Wi-Fi calling and present the option to access that menu. But, for whatever reason, once I make it to menu and activate Wi-Fi calling, the slider that enables the feature does not stay in the enabled spot. Pre-Installed Applications with no option to delete them, just disable them (let us delete these apps!) This is a common thing for many of the major smartphone manufacturers, new devices come with pre-installed applications. Typical apps such as an anti-virus or a photo/video app for a major company. Now, my only qualm with this is that these pre-installed applications CANNOT be removed. Facebook is one of these particular apps and I’m not a fan of having it pre-loaded onto my phone. I wish Sony would give us the ability to remove these pre-installed apps that we don’t want or care about and so we can regain some of that storage space. Hopefully Sony will release an update which can give us this option to do so. Placement of the Fingerprint Scanner Something that immediately caught me off guard was the placement of the fingerprint scanner. Now, this probably won’t be an issue for people that have not used a phone with a rear-facing fingerprint scanner. In my case though, the fingerprint scanner on my old phone is just about where the camera on this Sony Xperia XZ2 is. So I’m finding myself tapping on the camera lens quite often thinking it’s the fingerprint scanner. Not a big deal, I just have to accustom myself to placing my finger in a different area. Until then, I will have to remember to clean my camera’s lens every so often of my fingerprints. No built-In 3.5mm port (a USB-C to 3.5 adaptor is provided though, thank you Sony) One of the bigger issues I have with this phone is the fact that there is no built in 3.5mm port. Usually this isn’t a problem for me as I make extensive use of Bluetooth headphones. The only downside though is if for some reason my Bluetooth headphones do not have any battery power or I need to use one of those portable credit card readers for business use/other 3.5mm accessories. When this happens, I will need to make sure I have the USB-C to 3.5mm adaptor on my person. Then there is the issue of charging the phone and trying to use a 3.5mm port at the same time.

Solid Phone
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Overall this is a solid Android phone. It has a 5.7” screen that can be bright and looks great. Photos, movies, games, all looked good on the phone. The processor is a big boost from my previous phone and where it would stutter or lag in processing information, the Sony just went through with no problems. The unit feels about the same weight of any other phone it’s size. The bezel along the edges doesn’t take up a lot of space. It comes with a quick charger, USB-C charging/data cord, USB-C to 3.5mm audio jack adapter, and corded earbuds with several earpiece sizes. The standard USB-C to audio adapter does not let you charge and listen at the same time, but a splitter seems to be coming. Having the finger print scanner on the back makes the device easy to open. Once I got used to it, just placing a finger on the back, which is a natural place, makes it easy. The back isn’t flat, but slightly rounded which makes it easy to rest a finger in the right position. You can still use a pin or other methods, but this is easy. The phone has a combination SIM/SD card holder on the top. Just pop the devices in and push it back in the phone. Cell phone coverage was on par with any phone I’ve had. Wi-Fi on the 2.4 and 5GHz range worked with no problems. NFC worked fine for purchases and connecting to other devices. Throwing the screen to a TV was simple. GPS worked well with Android Auto and Waze. Bluetooth speakers and headphones sounded good. The phone has a battery program to help last longer, it cuts off programs etc and the battery life is good. Phone calls were clear. The haptic feedback is nice and it’s clear when you do something on the screen. Sony includes a transfer program, but with google its easy to transfer all your apps and information. I use T-Mobile and took my SIM card from my old phone to the Sony and it worked as soon as I turned it on, no issues. On a good note, there were no obtrusive preinstalled programs. They were there if you wanted to use them, but not in your face. I wanted to get rid of two and it actually removed them instead of just reverting them to a previous version still taking up space. Sony has a PC program for helping you transfer, backup, or upgrade the phone. It’s lightweight and was easy to use. Just download it from the Sony Mobile website. The camera took great pictures and for movies you can add HDR. Looking at them on a 4K screen, not the phone screen, lets you see all the details. The phone has a button for bringing up the camera and you can change what it does to take pictures immediately for instance. It comes with several effects and general editors for photo’s and movies. They are easy to use. I put movies, music, and photos on the SD card and it leaves a lot of internal space for apps on the phone. It comes with 64GB of internal memory. A lot just for apps. I was not able to move apps to the SD card, but it’s not an issue with the memory only being used for apps. The phone comes with Android 8.0 and will do some security updates once connected by wireless, or through a PC for instance. Android 8 worked fast, and I had no problems with it. All of my apps loaded and no crashes so far. I used some Sony wireless earbuds with the device and they sounded great. BT or NFC connections were easy to do. Downloads and installations where fast. The phone has the features to compete with other brands in it’s range. Wireless charging is available for instance. A lot may just depend on personal preference. When people saw the phone, many seem to have forgotten Sony still made high end phones. I’ve been using Samsung phones for years and I’m used to the layout. It took a few days, but now I’m using the Sony like I always had one.

One of many Flagship Cell Phones, but still unique
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Sony’s latest Experia, the XZ2, is another example of the remarkable features that cell phone makers have been able to cram into a pocketable device. Of course it has the currently most powerful CPU, the latest version of the Android Operating System, a lot of RAM, a great camera, a brilliant High Definition screen, rich stereo audio and a design very pleasing to the eye. A year or two ago a phone like this would have caused a sensation, but as it gets harder and harder to make great leaps in cell phone technology, it is just another good high end phone. We’ll have to wait until 5G becomes a developed technology in a year or two before we can be absolutely dazzled by a new phone again. The XZ2 is compatible with GSM/LTE carriers utilizing the GSM network such as Cricket Wireless, AT&T, T-Mobile, Simple Mobile, Straight Talk, metroPCS and others. If you are a Samsung, or iPhone Fan, there’s nothing special here, BUT, if you are a Sony fan deeply embedded in the Sony ecosystem, this phone has a few features that make the Sony experience even better. PROS: - The Gorilla Glass ™ front and back is rugged/scratch resistant (for glass) and looks gorgeous. Sony’s new “Fluid Design” treatment gives it all a very high end look. - The latest Qualcomm Snapdragon 630 Octa-core processor makes everything move and respond amazingly fast. It loads programs into the latest Android Oreo OS very quickly. - Like all phones in its class, the XZ2 has excellent cameras front and back. However, the XZ2 utilizes this hardware to offer rapid-burst still pictures, high definition slow motion video capture, blurred out backgrounds to make the main subject of the photo visually Pop and software that scans heads or other objects into 3-D rotatable renders that can be downloaded into 3-D software on 3-D printers. It’s expected that game software will soon allow these 3-D head render files to be used to make avatars in the game that look just like the player. - The XZ2 has the ability to use Wi-Fi instead of the nearest cell tower to make calls over the internet if the cell tower signal is weak. This works seamlessly and at no extra charge over providers like Cricket Wireless. Other providers charge extra. No provider covers the entire country without some weak spots. I almost didn’t get this phone because only a Verizon tower covers my home. With this XZ2 feature switched on, I have excellent clear call quality at home and work, even though the phone’s cell tower icon only shows one bar. CONS: - The glass front and back are VERY slippery. The Sony Fluid Design is attractive, but the bulge of the back which ends with the flat Fingerprint Reader disk in the middle, causes the contact point with a table to be a centered but small area. This allows the phone (when set on a table) to rock back and forth when touched by a finger and spin wildly as you try to touch the screen to operate the phone. A soft phone cover diminishes this problem, but does not eliminate it entirely. CONCLUSION: - The Sony XZ2 is very good, but that’s to be expected of High-end phones in this category. If you use other Sony products it does have some advantages in that eco-system. It hooks up wirelessly very easily with my Sony 900E HDR television. The 4K movies and photos taken with the XZ2 show up on the TV screen as fast as I can flick them across the phone’s screen. I can use my Sony PS4 G-shock controllers to play videos games on the XZ2 screen without blocking part of the screen with my fingers. The XZ2 is a good fit for my entertainment and Wi-Fi systems and I’m very pleased with it.

Sleek, Stylish, Modern, Responsive & Fluid
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. My 1st words out is that this XZ2 is such a beautiful, modern and very manageable smartphone that is very responsive. It's surfaces, in their entirety are so glass smooth that your fingers will feel as if they are gliding on fluid! It certainly has an awesome feel to it for sure. This is also without leaving any noticeable fingerprints. It is very comfortable and very responsive. * I would definitely recommend a protective case as soon as you buy this phone so it won't slip out of your hands. Be careful without a case!! It could start sliding! Myself, I will be definitely getting an authentic Sony case that is specifically made for this phone because I value it that much! (Don't buy a 3rd party case) It comes with 4GB RAM with 64GB of storage but is expandable up to 400GB with a micro SD card. Plenty of storage. (micro SD not included) The sounds that it puts out can get quite loud and are also customizable in the audio settings that include: -Sound Enhancement (sound effects) -Optimization with clear audio and DSEE HX for wired headphones -Also a dynamic "normalizer" to minimize volume differences between songs or vids! -Also supports LDAC & Hi-Res Audio The fingerprint scanner, IMO should be just a little above the center of the rear of the phone for a more comfortable single-hand access, BUT may just be because of my large hands and perfect for those of you with smaller hands....Either way, it is definitely NOT a deal breaker by any means. The power button is also situated on the edge in the middle and I feel that for me, it would be more comfortable for it to be just a tad higher up. The cameras both take super pics and will record in 4k HDR. Everything I have recorded thus far shows most excellent on the beautiful screen. There is also a 3-D Creator app which is fun for sure! If you use it very smoothly, it produces very excellent results. I'm not sure how often I may use this feature but I actually can think of many, many ways that this will become very useful to me. This Sony Experia XZ2 is a super phone, has a great feel, a modern look and is very responsive. It also has a beautiful Hi-Def 4K display that is sure to please anyone as it has myself. I highly will wholeheartedly recommend this to all of my friends & You

Snappy & Sleek
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I tested this phone out on my T-Mobile account. This little beauty has all the bells and whistles one would come to expect from a top tier mobile provider. The best part of the phone is how fast it is. I can seamlessly run multiple app without bogging the device down. The cameras are great and will rival any new phone on the market. The phone is great and would be a great daily driver for anyone looking for a high-end Android device. My three star review though is because of the following cons: 1) The curved slick back of the phone make is super slippery and I work for a living; meaning it is a drop just waiting to happen. 1A) A case might fix this but the phone is heavy in general and I really do not want to add to the weight and size 2) I had issues with connections to certain WI-FI networks and was unable to correct it (one was at my house but my issue might be isolated:^( 3) The USB C cable will be cool in the months/years to come but I currently have like 30 micro cables and do not feel like buying cables for every area of my life (home, work, car, and or spare). 4) No phone jack Again, this phone is worth all the hype but just was not a good fit for me.

Good phone
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I like this phone. Great size for me. Fits in my pocket well but still plenty big. Much faster than my 2 1/2 year old phone. Oreo ! Easy Bluetooth pairing, great as a hotspot. I'm writing this review using it as a hotspot. I have T-Mobile so it's great for me..Good battery life too. Another great product from Sony!

Beautiful phone, don't buy on T-Mobile
Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I want to love this phone. It's absolutely gorgeous, and any comment you read about it online is clearly by somebody who hasn't held the phone. Performance is blisteringly fast, and the battery life is very good. Why only 4 stars from me? Because of a series of nagging annoyances. For instance, the NFC status bar icon is unable to be disabled. That's right, you'll forever have a huge N symbol clogging your status bar. Also, the XZ2 doesn't pass metadata over Bluetooth connection. When you're streaming audio over Bluetooth in your car, you'll have to look at your phone if you want to know what's playing. Worst of all, Sony and T-Mobile couldn't be bothered to work together to fully certify this phone to work on T-Mobile's networks. You'll still get LTE data and be able to make calls, etc. You will not, however, have WiFi calling or Voice Over LTE functionality. You may consider the annoyances I've listed above to be within your threshold of acceptability, and they very nearly were to me. However, today I'm electing to return this phone; that's just too many annoyances for an $800 flagship phone in 2018.
