I've had multiple HP computers (Laptops & Desktops) over the last few decades and this is among the best I've had. The 8th generation i7 performance is screaming! I can run multiple large programs at the same time without even a hint of lag or issues. I almost bought one of the 7th generation (which are fine actually), but I'm very happy I held off for the 8th gen version. Everything works flawlessly but if I have one criticism it would be the trackpad, which is kind of "wonky" although it works. I use a small mouse and therefore don't use the trackpad at all. An extra USB plug would have been nice but I can live with the two 3.1 C type plugs and the one traditional USB 3.1 plug. Loading speed from my external Samsung T3 500gb hard drive is blazingly fast.
The computer is lightweight and very thin. The included leather carrying sleeve was a nice touch as well. The screen is bright and the lighted keyboard is very nice. I'm glad I didn't selected the 4K screen because the battery would take a larger hit. Frankly, the 4K screen models aren't as significantly better as you might think. The battery on this HD screen lasts for hours and hours even with my brightness turned up so very efficient power management is at work here. I was most impressed with the fact that no matter how much I stressed the machine with programs it NEVER got hot! You could keep this on your lap wearing shorts with no discomfort at all. The cooling efficiency is superb and it was very quiet. The all SSD 512gb drive is super fast and I'll never go back to a traditional mechanical drive again. Having 16gb available allows me to run intensive graphic programs with ease. The keyboard is comfortable, fast and no lagging issues were detected. I would buy this again and highly recommend it to others. I opted for the 3 yr. Geek Squad coverage and the peace of mind is most welcome.

The HP Spectre is perfect for anyone who is searching for a fast, user-friendly, and portable laptop. Being a student in college for more than seven years, I can provide a strong endorsement for this laptop to fellow students. Having owned this laptop for over a month now, I've gained a good understanding of the key aspects that the Spectre brings to the user.
Lightning-fast:
Supporting the state-of-the-art, 8th Generation Intel Core i7 1.8-gigahertz mobile processor, the Spectre will provide all the speed you need. You won’t just be getting your work done in a fast-paced manner, with this processor, you’ll be able to meet all your entertainment needs without any lagging or frustrating interruptions. Also, the laptop’s hard drive is a solid-state drive (SSD). Given the high-speed performance of the SSD, this will allow you to start or restart your laptop in seconds, outperforming slower startups and reboots from hard disk drives.
User-friendly:
Everyone both loves—and needs—an easy-to-use laptop in today’s clustered, complicated world; the Spectre far exceeded my expectations in this category. Utilizing Windows 10, you will find yourself effortlessly using apps, organizing your files, and customizing user settings to create—as well as enhance—your experience. This experience is continued in the Spectre’s versatile tablet mode where you can take notes or browse using the handy stylus. Some other notable, convenient features include: a privacy screen, fingerprint reader, backlit keyboard, and long-lasting battery. The Spectre’s durable battery will provide you hours of use without having to worry about recharging.
Since there’s no such thing as a perfect laptop, there are a couple minor drawbacks. The Spectre only has one USB port and no DVD/CD drive. These excluded hardware features were disappointing to me at first; however, technological progress is accelerating to the point where ports and DVD/CD will be used far less often, if at all.
Portability:
As someone who has nearly lifelong experience with computers and laptops, as well as extensive familiarity in collegiate environments, the Spectre is a perfect fit for college students. This is the second laptop I’ve owned since starting college. My first laptop was significantly bigger and heavier than the Spectre, making it a much-needed weight off my shoulders and back. The laptop weighs in at a mere 2.78 pounds, which makes for trekking around campus much easier when carrying a laptop in your backpack.

I bought one of these during the black Friday sale and although I could not snag the best buy deal, I did order it on the HP site (they were a bit more expensive but still had a great price during that time). The benefit though was for an extra $10 I got the dark ash color, otherwise, it is the same spec as this one (16GB RAM, 512 SSD, 1080p).
I have been using this laptop for the last three months and I absolutely love it. I am not going to nit-pick the track-pad, honestly do not see any issue with it. The 1080p screen choice is the right one for this form factor - while I was at the store I found it wonky to buy the 4K screen only to have to zoom the screen by 300% for it to be usable on the laptop - so I say direct your 4K dreams on a massive TV. The battery life as expected, is great if all you are doing light stuff. I do a little tinkering on app development and when I have many (and I mean many) things going on at once this thing becomes hot as a griddle - but I understand why.
Windows is a smooth operating platform and I absolutely love the windows hello feature, I resisted at first but that feature makes owning this machine all the more enjoyable. The finger-print reader is nice too but it is so much more convenient to open the lid and get recognized instantly.
Tip for people who do not like bloatware: you can basically make your PC signature series like by going into windows defender performance and health settings and follow directions for a fresh restart install of windows without all the bloat. Best you do this right after you initially set it up, the antivirus the laptop comes with disables defender which is probably why the manufacturer likes to bundle it. You can still go into settings and activate defender and disable the preloaded anti-virus.

I have had this laptop for a year. It is lightweight, easy to use, and fast. I highly recommend it. If you are looking for things to complain about you will find them. The fan can be a little loud at times. It never bothers me because it's lightening fast for the size. I can open 20 tabs, multiple searches and several programs. I never feel a lag. Updates are easy. Bang & Olufsen speakers are fantastic.

I would have given a 5 star but didn't like the sharp edges of this notebook especially the corners. I scratch my self tring to convert it to tablet mode. Other than that it's awesome! It's my 1st HP notebook and I wasn't disappointed with the performance. It gets really hot if I put it on my lap during use so I find a stable surface to put it on.

I've never owned a laptop with solid state drive, so this is a wonderful new experience. It is very fast, with no lag, and it's extremely lightweight and portable. The screen resolution is crisp, vibrant and beautiful for a full HD. Also, I love the features of this laptop. HP's Support Assistant makes it very user friendly.
Happily. I've discovered it doesn't seem to run hot, only with the initial updating. The Support Assitant will let you know which updates to download (including BIOS) and that's so easy and convenient!
By the way, here's a tip I've discovered: I used to prefer the Chrome browser, but that seemed to create some heat. I've since switched to the Microsoft Edge browser and this laptop runs cool as a cucumber.
All in all, I have to say, this laptop has been amazing so far. I've only had it for a few weeks, but I'm very satisfied and happy with my purchase.

I was at the local Best Buy looking for a windows device. At first I wanted a Surface Pro or Surface Book but the prices are too steep for me at this time, so I looked at the HP Spectre x360. I played with the display model, used it for a bit and got a feel for it. The display was stable and it looked like a great device. On paper, the spec are great as well, and for the price this was even greater.
There are several issues:
1- The hinges seem to be unstable. I do not know if it was design or a defect in production but they never lined up and sometimes the computer would wobble when flipping over into the tent mode.
2- The trackpad. I am currently using a Macbook Pro and had a Surface Pro 3. Both have great trackpad and for 1500 dollars one would expect something high quality on the part of HP. Unfortunately, the trackpad feels loose and the clicking is slow to sync with the computer itself. It is not snappy but rather slow
3- The screen was 1920 by 1080 screen makes everything look bigger than it actually is. A 1920x1080 screen on a laptop of this price is something that is unwarranted. A 2K display would have been nice accompanied with a larger battery too.
4- After setting everything up, the laptop overheated. It overheated to the point where my leg was very very hot. A computer shouldn't have to overheat when doing light minimal stuff like web browsing or reading an ebook
5- The pen. It just feels cheap and the tips were loose too. The Surface Pen is much better
6- The laptop was also slow charging as well. My HP never reached 100 percent but just stopped at 99-percent
I would have loved to see this device as my main windows device but the multiple issues i had with this device, after just one day of use made me bring it back

After reading through the specs online and trusting that the store associate knew what he was talking about, I decided to give the laptop a purchase. 16gb of ram, intel core i7, touch screen, it had everything I wanted. The boxing was sleek, the laptop was sleek, the features were cool, everything was great until I realized the major issue. 5 minutes into use and the thing was completely blazing hot. Mind you, the most I was doing was opening two tabs, it was heating up absurdly for no reason. I mean like uncomfortable to put skin on hot. Even still that's not what the major cause for concern was for me, I get that a two in one tiny little laptop is going to be hot with powerful specs like the spectre has. But the fans compensation for the heat is too lousy for me to be able to use the thing. I wouldnt be able to sit in class without people wondering why my laptop sounds like a tornado. Again, I'd like to note I'm not doing tasking stuff here... opening a tab will trigger this heat issue. I literally never write reviews but I need to return this thing tomorrow so I need to get out some frustration and maybe help future buyers out here. This overheating problem is an actual issue, even if you can take the heat the fan is simply too loud to use in a classroom environment (or any focus requiring one).
I'm gonna just buy a macbook instead.

I bought this computer because I wanted to edit video and audio, and this was a good deal for the amount of memory and processing power I got, compared to a Mac. However, I had to return my HP Spectre almost immediately after buying it because the audio was so poor. There was a loud, crackling noise every time I tried to watch videos. I assumed it was just a defective model, and exchanged it for a different HP Spectre. Well, then there was a new problem -- the fan is absurdly loud. Every time I do anything that is even slightly taxing to the system -- editing audio or video, opening a lot of tabs, or even just using the computer for more than a few hours -- the computer overheats and the sound of the fan is so loud that I can barely concentrate on my work. Even though otherwise I like the computer (it's fast, light, and I like the two-in-one features), this fan issue is so annoying that I can't recommend it for anyone else. And I still sometimes hear crackling when playing videos, though it's rare.

I have had many issues with this lap top and do not recommend buying it.
First: The Intel 620 graphics card has known issues, which causes my second screen monitor to flicker and go black. You can google this and find info on this issue on Intel’s website. Fortunately, the laptop is still under warranty, but I have to send it to HP for several weeks for them to fix it, which is an enormous in convenience. I spent MANY hours on the phone with HP support for them to diagnose this issue, when it is already a known issue.
Second: After I purchased it in 2016, the operating system had a number of issues which required many hours of time on the phone with customer support.
Third: When you turn on the lap top, it turns on slowly, so you don’t know whether its on or not for an unusually lengthy period of time. This is a minor issue, but it is actually quite annoying, particularly since my other lap tops turn on quickly.
Fourth: The key board on my version is silver and its not backlit which makes it difficult to see the keys in poor lighting.
I also have a Dell Latitude 7480 from my employer and I use them interchangeably with my Spectre, so I have had a good chance to compare them. The Dell is much better than the Spectre, which surprises me because I have not had good experiences with Dell in the past.
I thought since the Spectre is an expensive, top of the line machine, it would be hassle free. But sadly that has not been the case and I have spent many hours dealing with the flaws.
