I love my new computer. It’s great for someone that isn’t very tech savvy. While I do like the flexibility of using a mouse or the touch screen. The only reason I didn’t give it 5 stars is because of the fingerprints. That’s probably my only complaint is this computer easily collects fingerprints. Otherwise, I enjoy using it for my small business and everyday use.

After my old Lenovo Yoga 900 series died, I was on the hunt for a new machine. I literally tried 5 different machines (including an Apple) before settling on this one. I love that it's lightweight, I travel alot and this was my #1 criteria. I'm addicted to touchscreens, and this one works beautifully. Sound is great with the B&O speakers. It's an overall great laptop, I love it and I would buy another one in a heartbeat.

While the laptop runs smoothly and is pretty efficient for startups, it definitely has a few issues. I use this laptop for mostly business. It runs hot quickly. The fan is almost always on, especially when you’re charging it. Recently, my laptop was closed with it on the charger and my fan was still running which I thought was weird. Something weird is going on with the charge. My laptop was on the charger all day and closed. I get home and unplug it because I hear the fan running. The next morning I try to use it, the battery is completely gone, after being charged all day and not being used. The fingerprint thing is very particular. You have to touch it the exact same way in order for it to work. That means, 60% of the time your probably going to have to type in your password. While the laptop looks great and runs well, I may go back to Mac because these issues are annoying.

Best Buy in Huntsville has very helpful sales reps. I went in a few times to check this laptop as my existing one is old. So far, all appears to work well except the keys don't feel as substantive as my old laptop. However, my old PC is quite heavy. The HP looks nice, Hello feature is great, and is so light. Look forward to using it more.

Great for linux, trackpad frustrating in windows

I bought this because 'quad core with hyperthreading in an ultrabook?! YES PLEASE'. Turns out this little guy is quite the monster. The first thing I did was dual boot Ubuntu 17.10 for funsies and, everything worked flawlessly out of the box. Audio, track pad, sound, wifi, touch screen. All green check marks. Satisfaction with Linux as OS - 100% Now, the specs don't change just because you're booted into Windows. What does is the drivers. I would have given a solid 5 stars if the track pad was not a complete disaster in Windows. Synaptic drivers should make it an amazing experience. However, clearly intentional touches and motions are frequently not registered or are lost during motion. Scrolling must be initiated from the center of the track pad at just the right pressure. Pressing a key while using the track pad is straight out. These are existing issues with the latest touch pad drivers from HP's website as of this review. Uninstalling Synaptic touch pad drivers does not resolve any of these things. If you do not intend to use the track pad in windows, then for ~1200 bucks this is an amazing device. If there was a model with 2560x1440 display I would have spent the extra couple hundred for it in a heartbeat.

This convertible works great as you would expect. The battery life is great and screen fits into this price range nicely. At first I was concerned about charging with USB-c but it has worked good. The only drawback that I’ve seen is the backlit for the keyboard makes the keyboard unusable during lit room conditions.

    So this is what happens...

So this is what happens when a leading hardware supplier teams with Microsoft to make a convertible laptop. We end up with a beautiful, high-performance, portable, ergonomically excellent device. The design of the machine is gorgeous, with smooth metal edges everywhere - including the keyboard and palm rest. The tactile difference between this and the plastic feel of most portables is immediately noticeable. The screen, even without the 4K option, delivers a fantastic image that is easy to see. Videos and photos are crisp and clear, with deep blacks and great resolution. All colors are deep and seem accurate. I'm not a gamer, but for all other tasks - from video playback to multitasking images in Photoshop, the performance is first-rate. I've had a lot going on at once with this machine, and it never bogs down. Even with dozens of open browser tabs I can play videos seamlessly. Portability is first-rate. While it's about the same thickness as my Yoga Pro 3, the super thin bezel makes the unit feel a lot smaller. The Yoga always felt a little unwieldy in tablet mode, but the Spectre strikes a great balance. In tablet mode, the Spectre's smaller dimensions feel just right in the hand, and the included pen is a welcome touch. The case also includes a space for the pen, making it simple to transport without getting lost. The sound, provided by a quad-system Bang & Olufsen layout, is excellent for a laptop - and even more impressive for something this small. Sometimes, it's the little things you don't get that make a lot of difference. In the case of the Spectre, what you don't get is bloatware - you know, the stuff that you spend an hour or more deleting from a new machine. Other than McAffee, the system was free of unwanted software. Battery life is astounding, easily lasting through a coast-to-coast trip with a layover and having enough juice left for me to use it at my destination without worrying about finding a plug. My favorite feature, though, is the keyboard. Not since the old IBM ThinkPad days have I seen a portable keyboard that offers this level of tactile feel. Part of it is attributable to the feel of the metal keys, but HP has managed to get a reasonable travel length in this thin case. Ports are excellent, with a single USB-A, a pair of USB-C, and one micro-SD slot. And this takes us to the complaint section - a couple of very minor complaints. USB-C is great, but most of us are reliant on USB-A connections. Having an second USB-A would have been handy. The power supply is also a bit bulky for travel and requires a grounded outlet. And...that's it. So, when your biggest complaint about the laptop is the size of the power supply, I think it's clear that the designers and engineers at HP have done an exceptional job here. So this is what happens. We get a fast, sleek, powerful machine with great graphics, battery life, and exceptional ergonomics. I've owned (and even still own) and lot of nice laptops. This is, hands down, the best I've ever had.
