Better Than Mogul but Still Needs Work

    Posted .

The Screen is gorgeous, and fluid. The tactile feedback and touch capability is wonderful. I am impressed by it's speed even for it being a winmo phone. As most already know winmo phones have issues. The different screens take some getting used too. I was impressed by how quickly it manuevered the net using Opera. Glad they put a decent browser on here instead of just using I.E.. As more software gets released this will turn out to be a great phone. The only problems so far are common to the HTC brand. The speaker on this phones is not great. It sounds tinish and has some static sound at times. The volume could also stand to be worked on. Hopefully HTC will provide a software update for this issue. Other than that, it is leaps and bounds ahead of the Mogul for which it replaces. The micro-sd slot works great with my 8gb card. I only wish they had kept the 4gb installed memory of the Diamond and also allowed for the micro-sd to be installed. That would have really made this phone great. As it stands I would Recommend this phone for everyone wanting touch capability and extra functionality. It stands above almost any phone in Sprint's stable at this time. Seriously consider getting this phone, you won't be sorry!

Almost a perfect phone, held back by the battery

    Posted .

I come to this phone from a T-Mobile G1. The G1 on T-Mobile's network had issues that made it unusable as a cell phone for my needs. So I switched back to Sprint (whom I really like) and tried to find a phone with a full keyboard and full PDA functionality (calendar, contacts, etc.). The HTC Touch Pro fits that description perfectly and then some. Not only is it a fully functional PDA with an excellent calendar, address book and phone interface, but the keyboard is the best I've used. Fully functional, easy to type on and comfortable to hold in your hand. The phone is responsive. A little slower if you use TouchFlo 3D, but TouchFlo 3D is worth it as it provides a nice shell to hide some of the akwardness of Windows Mobile. This bumps the ease of use up quite a bit and I believe makes it a phone anyone can use confidently. I use this phone daily to check my GMail, send 50+ text messages, make phone calls and manage my schedule. I can sync with my home computer with Outlook or with Thunderbird. I even browse the web when I need to look something up. For that, Opera is easy to use once you learn the gestures that go along with it. It's intuitive and almost as good as the browser on the G1 was. Oh, and did I mention the 3.2 MP camera, the best camera I've ever had on a phone. Stunning pictures. It really does everything I want it to do. And that's kind of a problem. The phone does everything I want it to do. So well, in fact, that I could imagine putting in a 16GB memory card, getting rid of my iPod and having this be my sole device I keep with me at all times. The problem is the battery life. The reason I give it a 1 is because the battery life is so bad that it makes it so you're scared to actually use it. It can do all these amazing things for a phone and you just know that every time you touch it the battery is being drained. Every piece of functionality you try to utilizie (GPS, MP3 player, movie player) is going to kill your battery. And that's a real downer. If the phone were more efficient in terms of memory or had a larger battery, this would be a device to replace all devices and maybe to challenge the iPhone as the Touch Pro has a big, beautiful VGA screen. Unfortunately, the battery life is what brings it down.

HTC Touch Pro = Great Windows Mobile Phone

    Posted .

The HTC Touch Pro is a great offering from the folks at HTC. This great PDA phone offers the ease of a touch screen with the full accessibility of a full qwerty keyboard (with a full number row). This phone comes equipped with Windows Mobile 6.1 Professional (upgradeable to 6.5 in the future), and comes with a great software package. This phone is nicely sized at 4.17” X 2.05” X 0.70”. Some may say it is too thick, or brick like, but this phone is a nice change-up from previous Windows Mobile offerings. This phone does have some weight behind it, and you will notice it is in your pocket, being that it is 5.3 ounces. Reviewers have complained at the weight and size, but if you remember, it was less than 5 years ago we were carrying this sized, and weighted, iPods in our pockets. Being that this phone is a mobile computer, it is a small sacrifice to pay for convenience. It comes with a 2.8-inch TFT-LCD flat touch-sensitive screen with 480x640 VGA resolution is a beautiful screen. Though it is a bit smaller than I would like, it is enough real estate to do the tasks that I need to complete on a daily basis. The screen has great response to know exactly where the user wants to touch the screen, and the exact link or program that you wan to use. Where this phone shines is watching streaming video, or video off a memory card. The video is clear, crisp, and smooth, and is perfect for day to day operations. The phone is a little powerhouse with 512MB ROM and 288MB RAM, and with up to 8GB upgradeable memory through MicroSD expansion. I must recommend that you pick up an SD card to accommodate all programs that you may pick up for this phone. Also, this phone has built in WiFi 802.11 b/g, Bluetooth 2.0, Internal GPS, and the HTC USB expansion jack. One note about the GPS – you can purchase your own TomTom, or other, mobile program, to use on this phone’s internal GPS system. This is nice for those that choose not to use their carriers supplied GPS. The keyboard, for those that prefer that over typing on a touch screen, is very easy to type on. The best part are the shortcuts that are on the keypad. You can access your texting, the web program, and email, without too much fuss. This keyboard is easy to use, even for those of us that have large thumbs and fingers. I will say that you will start to use this exclusively when you get used to this phone. The call quality is great, with the internal antenna providing strong signal capability for clear calls. The earpiece is a little troublesome at times. If the phones volume is too loud, it will cause an echo that is annoying to the caller on the other end; too low, you can’t hear the person. The user must find that happy medium. The speaker phone is a great tool for business, or for hands free use. This is probably one of the best speaker phones I have operated. Overall, I have been happy with this phone now for six months and have done many things to customize it to my tastes. I must recommend this phone to all power mobile users. Pros: -Bright, crisp screen -Better sound -Video capable -Responsive touch screen -Full Qwerty keyboard with number row -HTC 3-D Touch Flow -Upgradeable to Windows Mobile 6.5 -Expandable memory (up to 8GB on MicroSD) -Great camera Cons -Windows Mobile gets sluggish when multi-tasking -Limited internal space -Sync port (proprietary), includes charging, headphone jack, and audio out all on the same port

    Impressed.

I have considered other smart phones in the past, even tried, but have not enjoyed them as much as this one! I have not been a huge smart phone fan because I am WAY to picky about features and options. I can usually tell very quickly, once in hand, if the device is appealing. I had little to no reservaions. In the past, I was really looking for a laptop in a phone and found it just did not exist (but this Touch Pro is pretty darn close :-) Then I realized, I "needed" phone functionality, first and foremost. Single handed dialing is a must (too old fashioned for voice dialing just yet). Now texting has become really big over the years in "unable/wish not to talk" type environments/situations. The soft keys are better for single handed text while the keyboard is better if you have both hands free. High res screen is pleasing to view and even small fonts are easy to read. So far so good! I do wish the battery was a little stronger/longer. Typically you have to charge daily, but I am not use to all this power. This Touch Pro model has a silver backing/trim and has expansion SD slot to 16Gig (to date). The "Touch Diamond" version has a maroon back/black trim, lighter/slimmer, without slide out keyboard and static, non-removable 4Gig memory. I was on the line with value but went for the 5 considering that if you really think about it, how much does a decent digital camera cost these days? What will an mp3 play cost? PDA? GPS? Phone? Internet connectivity? This all in one device? I think above and beyond the value for price. Best Buy also gives you darn close to new subscriber prices on their phones with full 2 year upgrade. Best Buy is "the best" for upgrading your phone device. I have had my plan for 5+ years and have no need/desire to change. I never have to worry about account issues or mistakes with Best Buy like I have with other methods of upgrading. So far, by far, the best option for device and service in my opinion. Hope this provides a little confidence and insight if you are considering!

    solid phone

    Posted .

i will have to say this is one of the best phones i have ever used. i was with AT&T and had bought a Samsung BlackJack II, and i thought that phone was great, this Touch Pro blew it away.everything is smooth on the Touch Pro, and if you want to make it stay smooth operating, you want to make sure to change the program settings to close when you press the "X" on the application you are running. do this keeps programs from continue running in the background and also conserves battery life. the phone is awesome, paired up to my Planetronics 925 easily, and even setting up my works email wasnt too bad, actually easier then i thought it would be. Now the bad part...battery life and price. the battery leaves much to be desired. my Samsung would last 2 days and only be half down. this phone even when not being used (like over night while you sleep) goes down. i wake up to see that the battery is at half after 6 or 7hrs of being asleep. i havent ever encounter anything like this. with a full charge i can get the phone to last one day, and thats with not using it all the time. Price...to me it is a bit too pricey, my BlackJack II had alot of the features this phone had and cost half as much. that being said, i myself didnt pay as much as they have it listed here, with my rebate i got mine for $300, which now makes it worth buying, but at $750 i would too be a bit put off. Overall it is a great phone, have had no issues that i can say are deal breakers and has much better signal with Sprint then i did with my BlackJack with AT&T.

    The best money can buy!

    Posted .

This phone i really bought from Sprint but itll be the same thing , I got this phone because it captured my eye in its features and programs including that it came from a european company HTC. This phone like I have it lets u search the web see the weather and even has programs like Word Mobile and Powerpoint and lets u talk to people in messenger. It has a 5 star rating except for one thing, its battery life. The battery life can last you only 4 hours if you constantly use it. That's why i use sleep mode to save battery life but can still recieve messages and calls. But i would advise you not to extend the battery because it will make youre HTC Touch Pro fatter than ever and will only give you an extra hour or two. But this phone is quick to charge. In 1 hour itll be almost full. So if I were you iw ould buy it but if you work 24/7 buy either the blackberry storm or the palm pro or pre.

    Versatile phone

    Posted .

I've had this phone for about 5 days now and it's really helping to organize my life. If you're familiar w/ windows mobile, you can have a task list and a calander to keep yourself organized. The speaker is not the best for playing mp3's but is ok for talking. The battery life is ridiculous if you're doing anything except standby. I charge mine AT LEAST once a day. Here's a little extra thing to consider: The phone will not prompt you that it has connected with the sprint network, so if you don't have a data plan, you will incur lots of charges. The only way to circumvent this is to have sprint disable your internet (then you won't have picture or video mail though). Think about this if you are just going for the "everything messaging" plan.

    Great, So far

    Posted .

I bought this phone because I no longer liked the virtual keyboard on my Instinct. However, I did want the touch screen. I frequently use text messaging and email, this phone is great for those things. I am not a business person, so I do not use many of the WM features or the Office Mobile programs at all. The only thing I would change is the battery life. I can get it to last more than a day if I pay close attention to the programs that are opened. You need to make sure that you set the phone to CLOSE an app when you hit the "x" Otherwise they are just minimized and still drawing off of the battery.

    Satisfied

    Posted .

Phone has a lot of features and the screen resolution is probably one of the best I've seen. Touch screen works well and with TouchFlo 3D it eliminates using Windows Mobile almost completely. Thing I hate the most on the phone is the battery life; it has to be charged everyday and sometimes midday. The speaker is a bit scratchy and also my magnetic stylus stopped being magnetic after about a month. I'm pretty satisfied with my purchase but wish the price had been lower.

    I love this phone!

    Posted .

I absolutely love this phone. There's so much you can do with it. The internet connection is pretty fast. My boyfriend has the Sprint Instinct and he was jealous when he saw how much quicker my internet sites load up. I use it mostly for personal use, but I have used the MS Outlook Active Sync and it's great. I like being able to sync up my phone calendar with my calendar in Outlook at work. Really helps keep me organized by keeping all of my appointments, both personal and business, in one place. The only complaint I have is like the others, the battery runs down quickly if you're on it all day, but since I sync it when I'm at work, it gets charged up during the day so I never really have a problem. The camera works great and takes great pictures. I've even printed some of them and you can't tell they were taken on a phone. There are also quite a few apps you can install - not as many as the iphone, but I have the Facebook app and it works great. I can easily upload pics from my phone to my Facebook page. All I can say is I absolutely love this phone!

Great Phone - WM still Glitchy

    Posted .

This is one of the most advanced devices I have ever used , that being said, Widows mobile still has its glitches that need to be worked out. I have owned numerous Palm, Blackberry, and WM devices and this definatly outshines all of them. That is for the short time until the battery dies. This is an issue that really needs to be addressed since all the advanced features of this phone suck the battery life right out of it.

    Awsome, Awsome, Awsome!

    Posted .

I got this phone the other day. I was actually going to get the Diamond, and the Sprint salesman said they had just gotten the ok to start selling the Touch Pro. This is by far a much better phone overall than the iphone. It has all the features of the iphone plus alot more. The pull out keyboard is very nice, and it works flawlessly. The internet speed with sprint is far faster than At&t's 3g, and the opera browser works way better with the touch flo than the iphone movement. There is so much to this phone! I found myself playing with it till 3am last night. I bought the 8gb memory card for it, as i got it on sale for 22.99, and now i have 8gig for my music. Another great thing about it is you dont have to use the sprint music feature if you dont want to. You can load all your music from your pc on to this great phone! Because it has Windows mobile, it also comes with a Windows Media player, and you can play your music from that as well!

    Much Improved Over The Mogul

    Posted .

Been waiting for this phone for months and it is everything that the european version is and more. I believe it looks alot better than the Diamond and the expandable memory is a plus. The Touch FLO 3D interface replaces the boring Windows Mobile and the stylus can be left completely alone. The Opera browser is neat and useful with its scrolling and zoom features but its also nice to still have IE just in case. Some people complain about the battery life but really, u can expect to stream from youtube all day then wonder why the battery doesnt hold up! We are talking about a computer that makes phone calls here and my experience has been better than with my previous smartphones so im pleased. Way to go HTC!

    Horrible phone

    Posted .

Long story short, I went from a palm treo 700 series to this phone. I was so excited by the Best Buy guys hype on the phone, especially since he had one. I was debating on the Instinct, Palm, Blackberry, or this phone. Palm and Treo didn't really have a good touch screen yet. According to the rep, the Instinct was slower and not adaptable. Unfortunately, other than being a nice slider and texting device, this thing is slower than my old Treo. It locks up all the time. if you are on the web and the screen saver comes on, then you have to push numerous buttons to get it to UNFREEZE. Very annoying. when it finally unfreezes 15 to 30 seconds later, you have 5 apps open. Last but not least the touch screen is annoying. Whenever I go to my yahoo page, and try to check my e-mails, it will let you click the inbox and then nothing happens. You keep trying to touch the screen and the screen image, will jump back and forth from a "close-up" to "panned" view. The whole time all I want the #$$##$% thing to do is open the inbox. Totally dissappointed. Will never buy another HTC product. Once my remaining year and a half are up, I am going back to the Treo or a Blackberry (my friend let me use theirs on vacation, b/c my phone stunk!) Good luck and run from the HTC
