Star ocean second story r is a remake of the classic JRPG of the same name on the PS1. The remake kept what was great about the original, namely the character stories and interactions, the more action oriented combat, and the beautiful musical score, and updated it for the current generation. The game boasts several modern accoutrements including fast travel, no random encounters, cut scene skipping, efficient item creation, and enhanced combat options. The graphics, reminiscent of Octopath Traveller, evoke my nostalgia for the original game, while updating the visuals for modern sensibilities. A real bargain, the game has quite a bit of replayability with a difficult, but fun bonus dungeon, a enhanced final boss, raid bosses, and "99 endings." Lots of content for the price. Any JRPG fan, old or young, should enjoy this game.

I never played the original, but I love RPG’s and Octopath. This game is fantastic, great VA, Great graphics, and amazing soundtrack. Really cool characters and multiple endings.

Another square enix classic.. remastered for better play.

The game play and story are great with this game. I have always enjoyed the starocean saga.

This is the way to do a remaster. Amazing visuals and a nostalgic soundtrack make this classic a joy to experience all over again!

They did a great job with the remake. I’m a big fan of the art style. I’m very impressed overall with the performance on the Nintendo Switch.

Wanted a physical copy of this game. Loved the psp remake from back in the day. Unfortunately Square cheaped out with most of the game being on the cartridge. But it requires a gb or 2 download to complete it.

Must play for rpg fans. I really hope it does well enough to get the rest of the series ported over

I still have the original PS1 version of this game. I loved it back then and I love it now. The face lift it received is amazing. This is much more than a basic blurry upscale of the original like the PSP version was. I highly recommend this remake.

Great game, deep mechanics, great story, great game play

This game is absolutely gorgeous and runs super well on Switch.

This was my 3rd or 4th entry in the star ocean franchise and unfortunately probably my least favorite. The story feels very dated which of course it is since it’s a remake. The quality of life updates are really great though and potentially a saving grace. I would not replay it but I’m also not sad I played through it either. If you’re a fan of the series it’s probably worth a play through if you can get it on sale.

This was probably my favorite JRPG in years from one of my favorite series ever. It really captured and improved on everything I love about 90s anime & video games.

Beautiful remake of an already outstanding game from the late 90s. Second Story R may be Star Ocean at its best, giving new fans a perfect entry into an awesome series. Multiple endings give it tons of replayability and hours of intriguing gameplay. This version also offers a number of upgrades to make the game more user friendly. An outstanding game that sets a new standard for what we should expect from video game remakes.

It’s a fun and nostalgic game, I love the combat and the music is entertaining.

This game is beyond amazing. Grew up with the originals and now playing this, feel like a kid again such a good nostalgia high but also the QoL features are an incredible welcome. New fan or old this game has it all for everyone couldn’t be happier.
