Stunning.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Director's Edition was truly Robert Wise's final wish for the end of his life. He worked with some talented editors and artists to complete his vision. This was done on DVD only back in 2001, but now it has been refreshed, remastered, reformulated for 4K HDR. It was exclusively on Paramount+ originally earlier in 2022, but streaming services still can't deliver the fidelity of a physical disc. The extra features are eye-popping and mind blowing. The Dolby Atmos mix is heavenly. Truly, this is the only way to see this classic 1979 masterpiece.

Star Trek: TMP Redux
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Displayable packaging, a 4K special effects upgrade, some fun books/cards/stickers and a more understandable movie. This has been needed ever since the upgrade of the original series FX, and it does look fantastic. The bonus feature on the disc explaining what was done and why is well worth a watch.

Classic Trek
||Posted . Owned for 8 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The director’s cut is great — greatly expanding the story with wonderful character moments, but the packaging is awkward in size. Some nice collectibles included, but you’d really want this for the fantastic 4K presentation of the movie. If you remember this movie as “boring”, now’s the time to give it another chance.

Star Trek-The Motion Picture Ultimate Release
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I wish I could give this five stars. The movies themselves, off three versions of them, are presented well in 4K You get the original 1979 theatrical version, The Longer Version ( TV version) and the newly restored 2022 Director's Edition. This marks the first time the Longer version has been available on any of the new formats ( was previously available only on videotape and laserdisc and skipped the DVD and standard Bluray formats) It is exclusive to this set in both 4K and his available through branching with the original version as itvis available for the first time in widescreen (2.35:1). The original version was previously released on 4K last year as a set that includes the first four films plus a revised version of the Director's cut of Star Trek II -The Wrath of Khan. The other extras are excellent and worth the pricetag ( booklet, stickers etc) My only great about this which is why I leave at four stars, I preferably would've wanted to give 4.5, Is the disks come in cardboard sleeve, which is so hard and firms that one is legitimately concerned with damaging the desk removing it from the booklet. They could've easily included a standard 4K case with three disc hubs. The size of this case it's awkward the store with any other discs. That aside is a great item for the collection of any Star Trek fan.

The Original Improved In So Many Ways
||Posted . Owned for 3 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. If you're a fan of this movie, and know about the whole production woes, and want all available flavors, then here's the set for you. The picture is 95% flawless, the sound is extreme ear candy for a slow movie, and that's just the Director's Edition, which is easily the best way to enjoy the movie. Purists will also want to see the TV cut, with a very noticeable "fix" in an otherwise infamous moment. The package is quite good, but please take care of it (it can easily be bent/damaged).

"There is no comparison," indeed.
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The best TREK film (maybe by far, honestly). Its score -- by Hollywood's best-ever scorer, Jerry Goldsmith -- makes the picture. Most of the then-state-of-the-art effects still hold up, and the story is truer to the spirit of STAR TREK than anything that followed (perhaps because Roddenberry was the hands-on producer of this movie, and none other afterward). TMP is genuinely epic in scope and is a film to be experienced as much as watched. I'd give this release a perfect rating if not for a few artistic choices that I don't like in the otherwise-superior DE (e.g., the full reveal of V'ger, which should have been left to the imagination). Additionally, the packaging makes safely removing discs from their sleeves very difficult (if not impossible).

Open and remove the discs with care....
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I'm thrilled to finally have physical media for this, and some of the extras included with this box-set are fun (though ultimately not particularly important), but as many others have said, the packaging is...problematic. I did manage to extract the discs without damaging them, but agree that another method of containing them would have been preferred.

Excellent film- not enough of Special Featurss
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The directors cut of this film does look amazing and works! Robert Wise would be proud! Love the 4K transfer and the Dolby atmos! Only I wished the extended version (actually all three versions of the film) were all on 4K UHD and in Dolby Atmos and same with the digital HD versions ! Oh well! Collectibles are great but barely can sell the idea of purchasing separate releases of this movie !

Buyer beware re: The Complete Adventure
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. For me, the Director's Edition is the definitive version of Star Trek: The Motion Picture & far better than the rushed theatrical cut. This version of the first Star Trek feature originally overseen by Robert Wise back in 2001 and given a brand new 4k shining will not disappoint fans of the first film! Picture and surround are breathtaking! Love having the entire Goldsmith score as an isolated track along with announcement of each arrangement, played in perfect sync as heard in the film! The supplemental Blu Ray is also recommended which includes a bevy of new and legacy material on the genesis of the director's cut. This deluxe set, however is a misfire and a money grab intended for diehard Trekkers and completists like myself to own nostalgic swag along with an additional cut of the film broadcast on ABC TV in early 1983, later released on VHS and Laserdisc. While the 'Special Longer Version' is also rendered in 4k, the brief scene with Kirk going after Spock feels out of place with or without the corrected VFX that masks the soundstage scaffolding for this scene. The booklet comes up short in terms of content and the discs run the risk of damage while stored in flimsy cardboard sleeves. My worst-case scenario was realized while struggling to remove the director's edition disc from it's sleeve, dropping onto my hardwood floor label side up and scratching the disc. If you must own The Complete Adventure you'll appreciate the nostalgia as it brought back memories seeing the theatrical cut in cinema with my dad. Save yourself the headache and find a multi-disc Blu Ray or UHD case to store the discs safely the moment you remove the shrinkwrap, or order one from the internet. For many fans I would recommend you skip the Complete Edition and buy the standalone 4K Director's Edition of ST:TMP or the complete 6-movie 4k set if you hadn't purchased last year's boxset release of ST 1 through 4.

Remastered version is like reading the final draft
||Posted . Owned for 2 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Great remastering of the original classic. After watching the 2022 Director's Cut, I went back and watched the original version. Embarrassing how much better it is now. The original cut is like reading the first draft of a college paper and then going on to a college thesis. The extras are cheesy and not worth your bother. BUT the collection is!

Extremely Entertaining
||Posted . Owned for 3 weeks when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Picture and sound quality are extremely good. It's been so long since since I watched the original version that I am sure that I not recognizing some of the additional scenes but the movie seems to flow along well. I thought the original version was choppy and not smooth. This is a must have for any trekkie's collection.

Star Trek gets a much needed refit.
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I can honestly say; I do like this movie and don’t agree with critics who say it’s slow. I must have seen this movie half a dozen times when it first came out. The special effects don’t exactly hold up to today’s standards. Heck, they were dodgy even for the seventies - though, some of the effects were updated. I still enjoyed the adventure. Tomorrow night; Star Trek II: the Wrath of Khan!

A must have for ST fans
||Posted . Owned for 5 months when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. An absolutely beautiful restoration that finishes what the Directors Cut standard DVD started back in the early 2000s. The audio is stunning. My only beef is with the digitally re-done opening credits, and maybe its a little pricey.

The 4K transfer of the directors cut looks wonderf
||Posted . Owned for 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The 4K transfer of the directors cut looks wonderful! I know this isn’t the most exciting of the movies but I’ve always had a soft spot for it. I enjoy the visuals and most importantly, the music. Highly recommended!

Properly Presented At Last
||Posted . Owned for 1 month when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. Finally, the first Star Trek movie gets the finish and presentation it deserves. This set also includes the original theatrical release and ( exclusively ) the “special longer version” shown on ABC television in the 80s and long out of print on VHS and laserdisc.

Worth the Upgrade
||Posted . Owned for less than 1 week when reviewed. This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Until now, it's been difficult (impossible?) to see the three versions that this set has. I owned the director's cut on DVD, and it had "deleted scenes" which are a part of this set. I'm not really into the stickers, but the three versions of the film make this a great buy.
