The Holy Grail of Blu Ray Movies

Picked this up yesterday after work, and have just been amazed for the past 16 hours. Haven't even watched the movies yet, just been going through the deleted/alternate takes and the documentaries. I haven't seen the Empire documentary since 1980, when I begged my mom to rush home so I wouldn't miss it. It kills me to listen to people talk about the lack of the original versions. If you watch the documentaries, that is probably how they will look. The picture is grainy, like the first VHS or reel to reel releases from the olden days. I have the 2-disc editions, and the original versions look just fine on those. Who know, maybe one day Lucas will release them, just to make another billion for the nest egg. This is without a doubt the best blu-ray release that has ever been done. Once blu-ray/hi-def first came out, I waited and waited for this to be released. Now it is here, and all I can say now is when is the Indiana Jones trilogy to be released?

Why are there 1 star ratings here?

Not to sure where the 1 star ratings are coming from or why. I have read the reveiws and they just dont make sence to me. If your any fan of the movies/series you would know where George stands on the make up of the BR editions. To get these on BR is just awsome. The moves are what they are - no real surprises here other than the NOOOO by vader as most have pointed out. Does it ruin the scene? No not really. I do wish that it was left out. Other than that we all know whats true about the movies and of course I gave it a lower rating becasue the originals were not included. That said you all know that no matter what - hard core Star Wars fans will by the BR either way. I did and I am happy I did. Oh yea, if you are hard core like me you have the originals in some other form of media anyways so why complain about the BR edition not having it. If I want to watch the pure originals I am going to pop in a laser disk original and watch it in all its glory just like the theaters release. So now my collection is complete with the Blue Ray edition. Go get em folks they are worth every penny.

    Still love it

I'm a huge Star Wars fan, so naturally I bought this. I own it on VHS, DVD and now Blu Ray. When I bought the DVD, I thought the difference was amazing. Only flaw was in the space scenes, there was always a blue outline around the ships. That's ALL fixed on Blu Ray. Of course every cockpit scene whether it's on the Falcon or Imperial ships still look a lil bad. BUT, because the rest of the movies look AMAZING and the sound is incredible, you'll forget the cockpit scenes! Of course Sir Lucas made MORE changes on top of what was done to the DVD's, they're small but noticible to fans like myself and of course the BIG change he made in Return Of The Jedi, still all in all, I LOVE IT. The better the TV and surround sound system you have, the bigger the difference will be. Since I spend ALOT at Best Buy, I get to enjoy the difference.

Great Addition to a Young Fan's Collection

I was surprised at how much they were able to improve the movies in high definition. I compared the DvD release to the Blu-ray and its significantly better. Honestly I don't see a whole lot of extra content that George Lucas hasn't released previously, but there is a lot to go through if you haven't seen much behind the scenes stuff before. Few things to note; they changed the cantina scene again so Han Solo and Greedo now both shoot at each other at the same time. One thing I laughed at was how you can see the bad make up job Carrie Fisher had in "A New Hope". Overall I'd say its a good buy, particularly if you don't own them already.

Blu-ray with FREE Star Wars T-shirt!

The item was priced at $89.99 until few days before the release date. It finally came to $79.99, so I bought this Complete Saga instead of the Sequel and Prequel sets. I saw on the shelf there were Star Wars T-shirts priced at $9.99 each so I was reluctant to also get one until a Best Buy staff approached me and said that the T-shirt is FREE when I purchase the Blu-ray. There's only one size though (XL) but my size is Small or Medium, no big deal! I may have to give it as a gift to a friend or just for keeps. The blu-ray movies are definitely great plus a lot more. I already have the complete series on DVD and of course the blu-ray is much better. The packaging is also good, it only occupies an equivalent of 3 blu-ray regular packs on my shelf and that makes it compact that there are a total of 9 discs in the package.

    The reason Blu-ray was invented

When I was three, the first movie I ever saw in theaters was Star Wars. I have been a mega fan since that day, seeing each film literally countless times on screen and on video/DVD. When I found out that Mr. Lucas planned to release them on Blu-ray, I redesigned my home theatre to accomidate these iconic films. Counting the minutes!!!!!!!

Well, we all know George. This is the 1st release of the films to blu ray & it will NOT be the last. We know he will release them numerous times on blu ray. I am a Star Wars fan & collector for over 31 years-started collecting August of 1980. Took Empire to do that. Ok, we get all six films wide screen. BORING DISCS, NO ARTWORK ON THEM. Three discs are extras. Two of these discs are extras for the six films. We veteran Star Wars fans know there are still missing deleted scenes-need bloopers. Commentary for the films. The third disc of extras has different documentaries & specials. THE ONE I AM DISAPPOINTED IN IS THE SPOOFS SECTION. Ok, Saturday Night Live-hey people isn’t the best the episode where Carrie hosted? It is NOT here. I never watched the Friends TV show but is there NOT an episode where Aniston has the metal bikini? Where is the Big Bang Theory? Family Guy-so many to choose form & they only did a few bits from different episode. Where was the one with Mark? And, of course where is the Star Wars Holiday Special? Brochure inside set is LACKING I expected information on the films-nope nothing. And that 2 page art work at the back of the package. The main characters from episodes 4, 5 & 6 OR THE CHARACTERS WE LOVE Han, Leia, Luke in my opinion are barely shown in top right corner. SHOULD BE RIGHT IN FRONT WITH VADER, YODA, CHEWBACCA & THE DROIDS RIGHT? We can just sit here & await the next time George does a blu ray release & see if improvements are made. Rating 5 for films, package would get a 4

    EPIC!!!

The fact that the entire saga was packaged together was great but the intro price of $80 was an added bonus. I wasn't expecting this but there was a noticeable difference in the quality of the movies in the blu-ray version and the dvd version even when the regular dvd versions were upconverted. The audio was excellent as well. As others have noted, the changes to the episodes for the blu-ray versions are subtle and don't take away from the original. The way I look at it, George Lucas must have approved the updates and if he ok'd these updates, who's to argue with him. The point is that he's the artist and has the right to change it if he wants to. I still remember seeing the original Episode IV in the theater in 1977 when I was 10 and still love this series today...awesome!!!

Must own for any Blu-Ray enthusiast and/ofilm buff

I think I can speak for everyone when I say that some of the films included in the set are not what we were expecting after Lucas's original trilogy. Phantom Menace is not a very good film, Clones is an improvement, and then Revenge of the Sith brings the Star Wars saga back to a nearly "Empire Stirkes Back" like quality: It probably ranks at number 2 out of all of the 6 movies. The whole original trilogy looks quite amazing in 1080p HD, Clones suffers a little bit (but still looks amazing), and Menace just doesn't look as good as it should. However, Revenge of the Sith is definitely the standout in the set: It reaches Avatar-like quality at times. The original trilogy definitely has been modified (AGAIN), but that doesn't bother me like it bothers most people. Lucas should have included the original material on the set to make this the definite edition, but the extras alone make this set worth the purchase. You will discover just by watching the Episode III extras that Lucas and his team definitely had an even darker film planned, but it may have been too dark (but they still should have gone there). For 90 dollars, this is not a bad buy at all. In fact, the Star Wars Blu-Ray set is probably a must own for any Blu-Ray enthusiast and/or film buff.

After watching all 6 films, I gotta say I really love this box set! I was so happy they FINALLY released the complete saga with all 6 movies. However, for those who wanted to buy this product for the Theatrical versions of the original trilogy, do NOT buy this set, it will upset you off if you're expecting to watch the Theatrical versions on this blu ray set! Me personally, since I have the theatrical versions on VHS, I can always watch those if I wanna see the theatrical versions. Furthermore, the bonus features are just FANTASTIC. I'm glad it has so much deleted scenes that were never shown before on the DVD's. This is just......AMAZING!!!!! Stop reading my review and just buy this already!!! It was worth it in my opinion! The next box set I'm getting is Jurassic Park ultimate trilogy!

Spaeking as I long-time Star Wars fan, I was very excited when I first heard of this Blu-Ray set. I am very happy to say this Blu-Ray collection does not disappoint! The picture and sound quality in all six movies are astounding. The visuals are all clear, sharply defined and have an amazing amount of detail. The sound quality, from the sound effects to John Williams' terrific score, gives you the feeling of being there (even without a surround sound set-up). This is the best these movies have ever looked or sounded. Not a trace of age or source material defects to be found anywhere! The extras give some insight into the making of the movies. The feature I liked the best was the History Channel program 'Star Wars Tech', which talked about the possible science behind Star Wars. I also enjoyed watching the TV specials about the making of the original trilogy (although these are showing their age). This set gives you the greatest sci-fi saga the silver screen has ever seen in its entirety and in magnificent High Defenition. If you own a Blu-ray player, then you already know you need this collection. My advice for any Blu-Ray owner, buy this set and enjoy watching the movies. May the Force be with you.

    "Noooooooooooooo........"

    Posted .
This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

While I would agree with everyone else here about Star Wars being one of the greatest sagas ever, it's this blu ray package that needs to be focused on. I grew up with Star Wars and obviously enjoyed the originals. I didn't agree with the changes Lucas was making with every re-release of the original movies, but I still enjoyed them. I did a preorder for this box set when I heard about the blu ray release. However, I changed my mind as I heard all the NEW changes Lucas was making to the films in this blu ray package. I'm not as bothered about the Greedo shoots first thing (although it shouldn't have been messed with in the first place), but it's the fact that Vader now screams "Noooooo" before throwing the Emperor over the railing in the climatic, redemptive scene of ROTJ. It changes the mood and seriousness of the scene. That "Noooo" was bad enough at the end of Episode 3 but this is worse. This on top of all the other changes he's making to the original movies. There have been enough changes...we don't need more every time these movies are released! Other than that, enjoy the movies for what they are, but as others said, maybe there will be a better blu ray edition down the line without these unnecessary changes.

Blu Ray Is Much Better than DVD

I already owned all of these movies on DVD, but, being the fan I am, I decided to purchase the Blu Ray. At the time I bought it, I wasn't expecting much of a picture quality enhancement, particuarly on episodes 4,5, and 6... I was wrong! The picture and detail in all of the movies is amazing. There were things details in all of the movies that I had never noticed before. Upgrading to Blu Ray was definitely worth it if you're a fan of Star Wars, awesome picture quality, and sound quality.

Thank you George Lucus! Instead of releasing the movies individually and charging who knows how much per episode, they bundled everything up and only charged me $79 for everything. I can't tell you how many times I purchase a Blu-ray version and it doesn't seem much different than the DVD. But with this, some of the scenes on tatooine are terrific. I'm very pleased with the Blu-ray version and highly recommend it to any Star Wars fan. FYI..ignore the posts about the added sound bites. It's not a big deal and I can't figure out why everyone is making a big deal about it. It's different but not as different as Jobba making an appearance in episode IV.

    blu-ray AWESOME

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

All six movies look and sound AMAZING on blu-ray. The movies are the main reason to own this set, even though it does not contain theatrical releases of A New Hope, Empire Strikes Back, or Return of the Jedi. These were released separately on DVD in 2006, DVD of special editions and theatrical release is included along with a collectible comic. OK, back to this set it has hundreds of models, maquettes, and concept art from all six movies if you really want to look through them all. Cast and Crew interviews, plus the best extra I thought were the deleted scenes. Disc 3 has eight featurettes some you may have seen and some no one has seen except Lucas. This is called the Complete Saga I say hardly to me the Complete Saga would have included all the extras from 1,2,3,4,5,6 I already have so that I would have THE COMPLETE SAGA. I have to keep 9 DVDs, episodes 1,2,3, theatrical editions of 4,5,6 special editions of 4,5,6 to continue to watch these extras deleted scenes ect. But this is only my complaining I am sure.

    The evolution of Star Wars

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.

I love the movies and the story line. Seems each time the series is released on to a new format (this time Blu-ray) there are more things added to the movies. I don't mind much because much of it makes sense given the very advanced technology now compared to when the first movies were made. But it can be a bit distracting at first. In one movie, I had to check to make sure I hadn't put in one of the three Special Features disks. But alas, once you get past that I love the movies. The clarity of the picture is amazing. Hooked up with my sound system, when you watch these movies on my 55" screen it is a fantastic experience. There's nothing like hearing the fanfare at the beginning of the movies. I still remember in 1977 hearing those horns for the first time and I still get the same thrill.

I was so impressed with the design of the saga. It opens up like a book and each page with its Bluray disk has corresponding pictures from the film. We have been Star Wars buffs from the very beginning and this Blu Ray set is a must for the collector! Cant say enough about it.
