A nice Steel book case for the Star Wars fans
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Star Wars: The Force Awakens is a great movie and is a must own for your film collection. If you are a hardcore Star Wars fan then the Only @ Best Buy Steel Book is really nice to have. The front like all other Star Wars steel books has a villain from the film, this time Kylo Ren. The back is where it differs from the rest of the series. Were the other films has the films poster on the back, this one has another villain aka Captain Phasma. The reason for this is because episode 1-6 was release by 20th Century Fox and episode 7 by Walt Disney Studios. The inside has the scene from the movie were the Millennium Falcon takes on two tie fighters on Jakku. Caution however, when buying this make sure the spine is correct. I order mine online and the spine was put on incorrectly. Overall a must have.

Best Buy Steel Case Edition
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I will admit, I'm not the biggest fan of Every Star Wars film, so when the Steel Case editions came out, I was super excited because I was able to individually buy the films that were my favorite. Then when Episode VII came out (which I loved) how could I not have the steel case edition?!! It's pretty awesome that Best Buy were the only ones who carried that version. So I have to admit it was an amazing Buy!!!

Almost 5
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As expected, great movie and excellent packaging. My only issue was trying to get the digital format working. I had to make several attempts to access the server and every time it failed. I'm just guessing it was due to an unusually large number of hits. I "WISH" I could have the 3D version, but I guess they are making us wait to hit our pockets again. So Hollywood! Oh well... enjoy!

Nice Upgrade
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Nice upgrade over the regular bluray. Picture quality is vibrant and detailed. No hint of grain but there are some soft cgi moments. Sound quality is decent. Kind of muted like all Disney films.

Fun Movie, Decent Bonus Features, Shiny SteelBook
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.STAR WARS: THE FORCE AWAKENS isn't particularly innovative, but to its credit, it isn't about trying to reinvent the wheel. It's about reminding us that the wheel still goes round, and that we like going round. The greatest strength of the movie is how accessible it is to newcomers. Rey, Finn, Kylo Ren, Poe Dameron, Maz Kanata, and BB-8 are all interesting and entertaining. The original STAR WARS movie treated its universe's backstory as something that everyone in-story already knew about, and that we could glean here and there as needed. The way that existing characters are presented in THE FORCE AWAKENS allows for the same thing. If you know who Luke Skywalker, Han Solo, and Princess Leia are, great; the movie does right by all three. But if you don't, all that matters is that Rey and Finn have only ever even heard of these people, either. As for the Blu-ray, the bonus features are solid though they feel less than comprehensive. The full documentary, "SECRETS OF 'THE FORCE AWAKENS': A CINEMATIC JOURNEY", is a mostly satisfying survey of the film's production, from the sale of Lucasfilm to Disney all the way up to postproduction visual effects. Most of the rest of the supplements really feel like they ought to have been included in their entirety in the doc itself; most are represented in abridged form there. Still, they do stand alone nicely and I can appreciate the balance between covering these subjects more attentively, and keeping the making-of doc moving along. Note that there are six deleted scenes included here, but if you redeem the Disney Movies Anywhere Digital HD code, you'll have access to a seventh, "TUNNEL STANDOFF", which is easily the most entertaining of the lot! It's clearly incomplete, as it lacks any kind of resolution, but Harrison Ford and John Boyega had such delightful chemistry that it's worth the 59 seconds to watch. Lastly, the Best Buy exclusive SteelBook. To be honest, I was underwhelmed by the very simplistic aesthetic of Kylo Ren on the front and Captain Phasma on the back, though it's growing on me. I do appreciate that the art under the trays inside the package is the same image (more or less) that appears under the CD package tray of the soundtrack album, of the MILLENNIUM FALCON confronting two TIE Fighters.

Childhood revisited... Mostly
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. As a child of the 70s, growing up on the original Star Wars (and the phenomena it created- for those who weren't lucky enough, for example, school (yes, SCHOOL,) took us twice on field trips to see Star Wars in the theater,) the original film and trilogy holds a special place in my youth. And while the prequel trilogy is much (and often rightfully so,) derided, The Force Awakens brought me (New) hope (ha!) That perhaps some of the magic has returned. And that's really what has been the problem with the saga since Return of the Jedi ended and with each film since. The proper balance of good storytelling with a near childlike magical wonder. The original trilogy, throughout all three films, whether by intent or luck, managed this balance in a way that no other Star Wars film made since can quite capture. For example, the great and abundant humor throughout the original films was (same word again,) BALANCED perfectly. It helped take the edge off of scenes that otherwise may have been too much for younger audiences. When it came to the prequel trilogy, this humor went from striking a perfect balance to becoming so overbearing that it rarely allowed to appreciate any sort of serious scenes. In fact, the same sort of ham-fisted humor made its way into the serious scenes by (among the MANY flaws,) allowing the largely wooden acting to be just as heavy-handed. It was all too much. When it comes to Force Awakens, and made worse in films following it, they've reigned in the humor to a perfect balance again, but some of the more serious tones have become overbearing. They've tried to "grow up" the stories to match the ages of many of us that grew up with that original series. And that's the shame. I, like many of my age group, grew up on Star Wars and we wouldn't have been able to if it weren't for the way the stories had been told: accessible to even the youngest of us. Watching these new films, myself with a young son much the same age as I was when Star Wars hit; they attempt to make it accessible, but just do not. My son enjoys scenes and characters, but many of the plotlines are simply told in a way that are meant for those of us who WERE kids, but not for those who still ARE kids. Of the newest three films, Force Awakens is clearly the best. JJ Abrams is a wonderful storyteller who, of the three directors so far, still retains much of the wonder at the big universe he's been granted access to. Rogue One and Last Jedi seem just happy to take what's given and make it more complicated, more *adult* in their stories. If you're interested in the best of the new films, Force Awakens is the best choice. While it may not be perfect, it's the closest you'll find in reminding you of your first childhood experiences with Star Wars.

Tell That To Kanjiklub
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.I never got to see this on screen nor on blue ray. Unless the movie was purposely shot this way some scenes are dark, and I don't mean with the force. Sometimes I can't tell what's being said and have to watch with captions on. Sometimes I can hear the musical score and sometimes it's drowned out. Perhaps the movie was like this. I was going to get the other edition until I found out the bonus material only is on the blue ray disc, I find this disturbing. After watching this twice the disc had started to skip and freeze (oh really it's cold?). Unless the movie was like this it seems chopped up and poorly edited. Perhaps the blue ray may be worth my selling a few rathtars to get better quality, don't know. As far as the movie itself (spoilers ahead) as a lifetime star wars not I find the recycled plot disturbing and some vital information is missing that is in the book but not the movie. And if you're waiting to see Luke who is listed second in the cast yet has probably 3 second part with no lines. Parts of the plot make no sense based on previous films since if Luke is gone Leia was supposed to be the last Jedi and save the galaxy. It's nice to see some of the original cast but time hasn't been kind to any of them. The new star is Rey not Finn as was advertised and sorry but they try really hard to force us to love her and I just can't. The same goes for Poe. I love Finn, a defecting stormtrooper and General Hux who doesn't flinch when superiors throw a fit. Kylo Ren is a disgrace to villians in any star wars movie and can be injured even by jar jar binks in my opinion. The feeling from A New Hope is there because its recycled. Oddly I still enjoy it despite all these huge problems, maybe j.j. Abrams plays a Jedi mind trick on me. The sequel better step up, it's our only hope. But I got a bad feeling about this....

Good but not the greatest
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.Good movie overall, but plot is too similar to original Star Wars (A New Hope). Was expecting something a lot more original from director J.J. Abrams and lead writer Lawrence Kasdan. The MiIlenium Falcon chase scene was excellent though, so hats off to the digital artists. Also a nice nod the original with the alien cantina scene. Daisy Ridley shines as the lead. A little too long though and purists will find things to grumble about that break continuity from originals. For example, Han Solo warns against the dangers of random hyperspace jumping in A New Hope, bouncing too close to close to a supernova or some such, but apparently that's no trouble in Force Awakens, as he advises just gunning it right through the bulkhead of another ship.) Overall quite enjoyable and perhaps a better "movie" that the original, but not the best "story". And a personal aggrevation with the movie, this is the second time J.J. Abrams has destroyed a planet (or planets in this case) in one of his movies and made such an event visible from another solar system. He obviously did not heed the ridicule he took for the ridiculousness of this in Star Trek to not do it again in Force Awakens. Rather glad he's not directing episodes 8 or 9: he's a great director but a terrible astronomer. Suspension of belief for things like hyperspace travel and the Force are fine, but humans just can't look up in the sky and see planets exploding light years away. We can't even do that with telescopes let alone bare eyes. This and the hyperjump through a bulkhead were genuine eye-rolling moments that spoil an otherwise very good movie.

Opt for the Blue-Ray DVD
||Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review. The Force Awakens movie was an excellent rebound from the much maligned prequils. A very fresh take on the Star Wars movie franchise and sure to win fans both old an new. As my summary mentions you should get the blue-ray DVD if you can as I noticed it had extra special footage. Since I won't buy another DVD player I had to get the non-blue ray DVD with no extra special footage :( and the only swag I got was a cheesy promo insert :( :( It made me kind of sad that for what I paid for this DVD I should get a step up from the Wally World bargain DVD grab and fight with your trailer park neighbor bucket deal. While I give the movie itself a solid A I will give whomever sells these DVD's a solid D- in marketing these. I can only figure that since I didn't get the blue-ray one that the one I bought was done so with the aforementioned Wally World bucket cage match in mind. Not that it would have held up to it though as the plastic case my DVD came in had broken tabs when I opened it up. Fortunately I had a spare case laying around to fix that problem. Would have at least felt better if they had given me a 50% off coupon for a sleeveless T-shirt with free beer stains! Would I recommend the non-blue ray one to a friend? Only the ones I don't like of course!
