Not sure why some reviews are so negative. The packaging of disc in cardboard sleeves has been done before and to says= the disc will scratch when removing them from the sleeve is nonsense. The cardboard sleeve is lined with a protective film so sliding the disc in in out is not going to be a problem. They do fit snug and that was intended to protect the disc from falling out own their own. A simple press with the finger the disc will slide up and allow enough edge to pull out with your fingers. All disc will smudge from fingerprints and using a micro fiber towel will wipe any prints and smudges off without harming the disc.
This set is called the Skywalker Saga and with that being said it does not include Solo or Rouge One. The value to be had with this set is not only are you getting a 20.00 savings by not buying each movie individually. You are also getting bonus discs that are not included with the individual releases.
For the 1st time ever you are getting the the 1st 6 movies released in 4K UHD with Dolby Atmos and HDR all from a brand new scan.
1977 never looked so good.
Also included are digital codes that can be redeemed which allows you to have this collection available on all your streaming devices.
Without a doubt this set will be a limited run and the future will probably hold even more content , more discs and different box art. The magic behind STAR WARS isn't so much the movies but the passion the FANS have for the movies. If your a fan you already know about this set. If you are just becoming a fan you will want to get this set.
I'm happy with the purchase, expensive yes but you can't put a price on happiness.

This collector's edition is ALMOST the best combo you could ask for as a Star Wars fan. The folks at Disney and Lucasfilm have already said that they have no intention of disregarding George's wishes not to release the original cuts of the Original Trilogy films so I wouldn't expect to see those versions have a public release until the 50th anniversary in 7 years where Disney can get away with "We wanna celebrate how this all started!" as a justification to release the theatrical cuts in 4K (or perhaps even 8K at that point).
So outside of the obvious of wanting the theatrical cuts of the original 3 films, this package has everything you could need or want from the Skywalker Saga. I haven't seen any technical analyses done on all of the discs but I'd put my money on the following:
Ep. 1: 2560x1440 (upscaled to 4K) @24fps | HDR 10
Ep 2: 2560x1440 (upscaled to 4K) @24fps | HDR 10
Ep 3: 2560x1440 (upscaled to 4K) @24fps | HDR 10
Ep 4: 3840x2160 @24fps | HDR 10
Ep 5: 3840x2160 @24fps | HDR 10
Ep 6: 3840x2160 @24fps | HDR 10
Ep 7: 3840x2160 @24fps | HDR 10
Ep 8: 3840x2160 @24fps | HDR 10
Ep 9: 3840x2160 @24fps | HDR 10
As the prequels were shot on digital with a native resolution of 1440p, the maximum possible quality is already achieved with those films so the only thing left to do is to upscale them! So the prequels may never be native from this release into the rest of time but with better upscaling technology being developed every few years, there should be very little loss of overall image quality as newer upscaled versions are released.
That being said, the video quality for the prequels in this collection is still pretty darn good. Again, I haven't been able to do a technical analysis but there seems to be very little in terms of artifacts or texture degradation. On the surface, it'll be the most clear you've ever seen these films (yes, even better than on Disney+ as compression from online streaming almost guarantees quality loss in some respects).
For the meat and potatoes of this whole boxset, as with the PT, the OT films in this set are the same versions that were released on D+ at the end of last year. What does this mean on a technical end? Sparing a lot of the technical film jargon, they basically had to work through the process of scanning the original reels, scanning the VFX reels (including the special edition CGI edits), and scanning the Special Edition reels ALL OVER AGAIN in 4K to achieve a native picture. So yes, this is indeed as good as you can possibly get with the Original Trilogy in terms of picture right now as the films were scanned in 16-bit 4K (last I read thanks to TheDigitalBits's review of ANH). Meaning that what's on the discs in this boxset is the best scan quality that may currently be available ANYWHERE (outside of the reels themselves of course). In summary, these are RAW 4K scans of the original trilogy all done within the past 6-8 years. This is as close to the real deal as we can currently get my friends.
So we've got an upscaled Prequel Trilogy and a native 4K Original Trilogy. What about the Sequel Trilogy? Well many folks have been confused since the only film to be released in 4K in this collection prior to its release has been TLJ (save the digital release of TROS). Well, TFA, TLJ, and TROS were all shot mostly on 35mm cameras. TFA and TLJ specifically having had some scenes filmed with IMAX format cameras (70mm). For the sake of this 4K boxset, it appears that all three Sequel Trilogy films have been scanned natively at 4K 16-bit as well. Quick little fun fact: On a technical level, these films take a while to reach their maximum potential on a digital level as IMAX reels are said to be the equivalent of 16K in digital resolution. Meaning it'll be years until we get a home release with practical 1:1 quality of every frame of those films. But for now, we've got the best possible quality video from them that we could possibly ask for now.
The special features for every movie all play at a nice 1920x1080 @24fps and are mirror copies of their most recent releases for each respective film. The OT and PT's special features are all from their blu-ray release in 2011. TFA's special features are from the late 2016 3D Blu-Ray release (NOT the initial 2D blu-ray release), TLJ's specials are from it's 2018 release and of course TROS's specials are no different than the standalone release's features.
Overall, this is quite an amazing package for the price. Though no discs possess the ability to play in Dolby Vision, the digital copies all do and they can be accessed via Movies Anywhere meaning you can redeem the codes, connect your retailer accounts and get access to them on several different platforms.
The packaging material is great though there is no real accommodation for cushiony disc sleeves in the firm cardboard pages, so obviously be careful with your discs as you take and replace them from and to their slots.
So for the TL;DR: This set is probably going be the best we can possibly get in terms of a physical release for these films until the 50th anniversary when I'm sure we'll get an even more astounding box set. So if you're not in a rush, you're comfortable having them on D+, or if you don't have a 4K system and don't plan to upgrade your display until the next big upcoming jump to 8K, hold off on this boxset as the one in 2027 will be much nicer. However, if you've never owned a complete set before, you just got a 4K display/Blu-Ray drive, or you're a diehard collector, this is the set for you.
Regardless, you definitely will not be disappointed.

"Look what you have made!"
One could hardly ask for a better set. Finally, all nine Skywalker saga films in one beautiful package!
When I was a child, around seven years old, I watched the Original Trilogy (in their original versions on VHS) with my brother and my Memaw. We had looked forward to finally being able to watch them, and we have been very fond of them ever since. But, being young children at the time, we were especially enchanted with the world of the Prequel Trilogy. As I got older, the question many Star Wars fans probably asked themselves started circulating in my mind: will there be another trilogy? Disney would go on to answer that question with a resounding "YES!", adding even more exhilaration to my growing-up years through the Sequel Trilogy. I say all that to say this: Star Wars doesn't just tell an amazing story; it becomes a part of yours. These films will be entertaining millions for generations to come. I, for one, look forward to the day when I can watch them with my own children and grandchildren.
As for the box set itself, the casing is very good quality. The Death Star glistens in sunlight, and the black is deep and sleek. While not a great symbol for the saga as a whole, the Death Star harks back to the original 1977 film, making it a worthy cover image. The box slides open from both sides, and a leather strap allows you to pull the disc-containing book out without wedging your fingers. A very nice and professional touch.
The book's pages for the movies are mostly concept art. I have come to like the images, but some of the pictures took some getting used to. The special features pages have really neat black and white pictures of behind-the-scenes footage. As a cherry on top, the back cover of the book has the Lucasfilm logo, ... which is one of my favorite logos. :)
The discs have good pictures on them, but they are a little tough to get out of the pages. However, Blu-ray discs are usually scratch-proof. The menus have a matching style, adding coherence to the viewing experience. I have not watched them all yet, but I am fully confident that the video and audio quality will be excellent. I have seen earlier Blu-rays of I-VII and they are fantastic. These should be just as good, if not better. I cannot speak for the 4K discs, as I do not have a 4K TV or player. However, I am glad this set came with them. I'll want to watch them when the time is right. Including the digital codes, this box set comes with three copies of each movie.
The films themselves are nothing short of wonderful! Each one has its highlights. I won't take the time to discuss each film individually. I'll just tell you they are special. They aren't perfect (except for Episode III--that one's perfect), but they classic. Also, John Williams's score for this saga is the GREATEST work of film music in history (if you count this forty-two-year project as a singular musical work). For those who want to know what versions of the films are included, Episode I is closer to the 2011 version (the one without creepy puppet Yoda--I'm sorry, I'm sure the people who made that puppet are gifted, but he was ugly). The Original Trilogy do not come in their original theatrical cuts, but are closer to the "Special Editions." They should all be the same as what are on Disney+ now.
While this set comes with a LOT of special features, there are some missing. Still, there are nine whole discs of them. That's a lot to dig in to!
The letter from Mark Hamill was a great tribute to Star Wars fans and to the saga itself. I'm very glad they included it.
While the Skywalker saga box set is expensive, it is definitely worth it if these films are important to you. This collection is, and will likely be for years, my most valued home video set. Consider buying this if Star Wars has meant something special to you--even if you have access to them on Disney+. It can be a marvelous adventure.
May the Force be with you!!!

This is a very nice box set of all 9 Star Wars Movies . Very comparable to my Harry Potter Hogwarts collection in which all the movies are housed in a really nice cardboard book . Yeah they are a little tight but I have never scratched any of my movies in any other set like this one . At the time I’m writing this review I’m watching episode 1 and it looks amazing in 4K on my LG OLED TV. My only complaint is with the Atmos soundtrack . It’s not just this movie but it seems with most Atmos soundtracks you really gotta crank up the Volume for it to sound good and I’m running a 5.4.2 Atmos set up . Other then that though everything is great and highly recommend this set . I could care less about episode 4,5,6 not being the original theatrical release because I was just a little kid when they came out and I can’t hardly remember the altered scenes . I think the movies are great so just sit back and let your mind go and enjoy the Skywalker Saga at its best !!

I've been a Star Wars fan since day one, literally back to '77. I've purchased just about every version/collection that's come out as they've released, from VHS and Dolby Pro Logic, to THX, etc...this one blows them all away. I like everything from the packaging to the video content. I understand why some folks don't like the disc sleeves, but I don't consider it a hinderance. The 4k content dissolves all frustrations almost instantly, the clarity and depth is, ironically, almost unreal. The audio is crisp and clean and everywhere you want it to be. I'm running an Oppo 4k/Yamaha 9.2.2/Vizio PQX system and right from the first note I got goosebumps. To be fair, I'm not certain if it is indeed the clarity of the audio/video provided by this collection's format or that I've finally got my system dialed in but, for my part, I couldn't be happier with my purchase. The remastering of the video and openness of the audio for the original trilogy is a treat for the senses, and the newer movies pop just as well. Aside from four decades of advances in special effects technology, and different director styles, the experience is consistent from start to finish. The extra touches they put into the packaging are pretty slick too, from the little note from Mark Hammill to the art provided for each movies page. Now the lingering question, will this be "The" collection, or will they release special edition sets or director cuts, or perhaps maybe even the special edition/extended version? Who knows, but for right now and with many companies making their departure from physical media, I think it's a great opportunity to have the whole saga in one well put-together package in the best content currently available.

This is a very nice box set. It has a sleek design and beautiful concept art inside. But as many have mentioned, the discs can be very hard to remove from the sleeves. You really have to grab them and get your fingerprints on them to pull them out.
Besides that, these are the "definitive edition" prints of the movies. Unlike the recent Blu-ray re-releases (which were just the 2011 Blu-rays with new disc art), these are brand new prints of the movies, all coming from a much better and brighter master of the films. Each movie has the 4K disc, the Blu-ray, and a bonus disc. All are complete with matching disc menus. Even The Last Jedi has a new print, containing some new bonus features, such as the Porg documentary that was previously exclusive to a different retailer's release, and the score-only version of the movie, which was a digital exclusive before.
All in all, well worth the money if you can get over fingerprints on your discs.

Unlike other versions of Star Wars, these are digital HD copies of the movies which look great on the recent 4K TV I bought last winter.
Yes, quality is better than Blu-ray as the HD copy is a more detailed copy of the original films. I've participated in the debates online (as I am no expert in film transfers) but apparently only Episodes 2 and 3 were filmed digitally in 2K, so they were upscaled for these HD versions. All the rest, I presume, were made HD from film originals into 4K versions for this set. Personally, I can't really tell the difference, but I can appreciate the 4K quality.
White scenes show some discoloration, but everywhere else, especially in space scenes, the colors and blacks are quite crisp.
The one thing people might hope for is what particular version you get in the set. It's not the original versions of episodes 4-6 -- it's the 1999-2000 versions with new CGI effects added. You'll have to get the despecialized versions from the internet for that. The other versions are the theatrical release and those with commentaries that were originally included in the orignal DVD/Blu-ray versions are also included in this set.

I preordered this and was very excited about it. I have three issues with it, but I also have a lot of nice things to say about it.
I’ll start by saying that two of the three of my complaints are really insignificant.
Issue 1 - (Minor) - The versions of the original trilogy included are in fact the Special Editions. I honestly expected this to be the case, but I never saw anything hard and fast saying which versions of the OT would be included. I’ll be holding onto my BluRay Despecialized I picked up a couple of years ago.
Issue 2 - (Minor) - The book pages have some white showing through along the middle of two pages, as if the book has been flipped through multiple times. I bought this product new, and opened it up sealed; So this must have happened in the factory, and even if it had not occured, it would have almost certaintly happened overtime in my own possession.
Issue 3 - The discs are an absolute pain to get out. I could not get the discs out without putting some fingerprints on them. Putting them back in? Also requires a bit of force. The best solution I can personally come up with is to take all of the discs out and put them in a disc binder, individual / trilogy / saga case(s). For a $250 product, it does not make sense to me to have to buy additional products to make this purchase more usuable.
Pros:
Pro 1 - The black outer casing with the Death Star on it is B-E-A-Utiful. And how it opens up to reveal the book inside is very elagant.
Pro 2 - The art inside the book is lovely. Also, including the Ralph McQuarrie art pieces for the OT was a really nice touch.
Pro 3 - It is nice to finally have Episodes I through VII on 4K. Prior to this release, the only Star Wars films released on 4K were The Last Jedi, Solo, and The Rise of Skywalker (I understand Rogue One got put out on 4K today, so I need to go pick that up to upgrade my BluRay).
Pro 4 - Mark Hamil’s letter is very heartwarming.
Pro 5 - At a price point of $267.49 (After tax), these nine films come out to $29.72 (If you round down) a piece. This set also includes the digital versions of the films. So at essentially thirty bucks apiece per film in 4K, BluRay, and Digital, it seems like a decent price point.

I ended up returning it because it was just too big for my collection. I mean the size of the set. It is a large, book. I didn't have room for the size of it in my collection. But if I did, I would've kept it because it is the penultimate collection of Star Wars. Everything in 4k, and the book was well done. Pure quality. I don't like streaming my media. I like owning the discs. If you have the money and the space this one is worth it. But due to space issues, if I'm going to upgrade to 4k on this one, I'll prolly just get each individual disc rather than the large book. People were complaining in the reviews about the sleeve holders for each disc. I didn't see any problems with this type of packaging. I always remove my discs from their cases or sleeves with a microfiber cloth anyway so no problems for me. There were no issues with scratches on the discs, and I didn't watch eps 7 an 8, but I watched all the other 4k discs, and they played just fine.

All the episodes in one box. Quality of the video varies from excellent (IV, V, VII,IX), very good (VIII) to okay (I, II, III, VI). Of course the big elephant is still the lack of the original cuts of the original trilogy but I suspect Disney is not allowed to release these due to the sale contract with George Lucas.
At least they have gone back to correct some things like lightsaber coloring and the original films have never looked this good on home video before. They look like they could have been recent films if it wasn't for the shaggy hairstyle of the late 70s and early 80s.
While the box is impressive I don't care for the way it opens. Also I don't like having to slide the discs in and out of the sleeves. They seem to really grip the discs. I think for the price they could have come up with better packaging. For the asking price of $250, a steelbook collection would have seemed more appropriate. Glad I got a refund of $50 due to the May the Fourth sale.
This set is still a mixed bag as far as extras since some from previous editions did not make it over.
Everyone knows the movies, but IMHO, I think the sequel trilogy shows that they should have at least followed Lucas' treatment. Disney's trilogy felt like they didn't even know where the story was going, Even though the prequels have their own flaws I have grown to appreciate them more. One of my favorite sequences in the entire set of nine films is the confrontation between Anakin and Obiwan in Episode III. Say what you will about the prequels, the sequel trilogy never had moments like the podrace, the duel of fates, Anakin murdering a village of sandpeople, or the lightsaber battle on Mustafar.
Disney needs to put Dave Filoni or Jon Favreau in charge and cut ties with Kathleen Kennedy. She's barely had any success with one of the most successful franchises. BO takes have just gone down with each movie under her leadership. If it wasn't for Favreau's Mandalorian she would have been fired by now.

I am a long time Star Wars fan from the OT. I did not want to write a review until I watched everything. First thing make sure you keep your Blu Ray and DVD sets of the movies and as the extras and commentaries on all three movie sets are not fully the same. Also it uses a movieanywhere code and I would make sure you check out itunes and VUDU as they have extras you can watch that are not on the set. I would say these movies have never looked better. The movies look much better off of the 4k disk versus the Disney Plus 4k streaming. I would have personally if I could rather had Rogue One on this set as it ties into this movie saga. People whining about the packaging is not as bad as they put it, your disks won't scratch and yes they are tight but the same people would be whining if the disks were loose. This is a deluxe set and you will not be disappointed. I would just keep you dvd and Blu ray box sets of the movies.

I already owned a Bluray set of the first 6 movies but one of those discs had a scratch that made it difficult to play. So I thought for my birthday I would get this new set that includes 4K blurays (even though I don't own a 4K TV yet) as well as regular HD bluerays of all movies 1-9 and some extras.
The usual disclaimers apply: these versions are different from the previous releases, the original release will never see the light of day again bla bla bla. There are plenty of Youtube videos comparing the various releases, and there will probably be new Youtube videos telling you why this edition is worse or better than the previous. I'm a Star Wars fan but not enough of a fanatic to care about whether the Han and Greedo scene got edited once again so that you can't really tell who shot first now. What matters to me is that the movies look great on my HD screen; one day I'll see them on a 4K screen too and I'm pretty sure they'll be alright there too.
The only thing I have a problem with is that the discs are inside a book with pages made out of two layers of thick cardboard, and they;re squeezed tight between those cardboard layers. It's really difficult to get them out, and once you do, you'll probably get fingerprints on them. And I can't help but think that it only takes a tiny piece of dust or dirt to end up in the wrong place and scratch up the discs. I'm seriously considering not putting the discs back in, next time I watch the movies. I'd rather put them in those CD envelopes or in a binder or something.

The prequel trilogy looks great in 4K. It should because those films were mostly shot digitally to begin with. Episode I's CGI effects look a little muted in some areas due to the resolution available at the time and it can be a little distracting, but Episode II and III's CGI doesn't have that problem. As for the original trilogy, they look the best I have ever seen them look. They even got rid of the garbage mattes around the ships in the space battle scenes of IV and VI. I love that all 9 episodes are housed in one package, but I don't like how big and cumbersome the package is. When I sit it on the shelf with my other movies (which are stood upright in a single row and arranged alphabetically), it hangs off the front of the shelf. I wish they would have used a similar style of packaging to the I-VI set from when it first arrived on blu-ray. Also, the decision to use no plastic in the packaging means the discs are housed (too snugly) in slits in the pages of the book holding the discs (also just like the I-VI set), meaning you really have to get a good grip on the very edge of the discs to remove them, then you'll have to wipe your prints off the discs before you play them so the won't skip or freeze. Also, some of the bonus content from previous releases does not carry over onto this new release, so you may want to hold on to your old copies if that kind of thing bothers you. I gave it 4 stars instead of 5 due to the packaging issues, but the movies and other disc content definitely does not disappoint.

It is positively the greatest home version of Star Wars that I've ever seen actually. Easily the best viewing of it since seeing it in the theaters years ago. All 9 movies in 4K Ultra will be fantastic to see! The picture in the original episode 4 "A New Hope" was so crystal clear, the color was sensational, and it nearly looked 3-D. It is that good. Now I am excited to see "The Empire Strikes Back" and the rest of the series. For the Star Wars lovers, this is well worth it even though expensive. I already had 5 of these movies on Blue ray and double-dipped by getting this series just to have them all on 4K Ultra. I am so glad that I did since it is a limited edition. If you love Star Wars movies and you love 4K Ultra, you should get this now before the limited editions sell out. The 4K Ultra is noticeably better than Blu Ray. This is the first old movie (made before 1990), that looked like it was just out in the theaters. Technology has come a long way, and so far, this is a homerun!

You bought the original Trilogy on VHS or Betamax, then upgraded to laserdiscs in the 90s. You bought the DVDs of the original trilogy and even bought the terrible prequels... Unable to help yourself, you bought the DVDs again when they released the original theatrical cuts. Of course you bought the blu rays too and now we have this massive Best Buy Exclusive 4k boxset. Is it worth buying these movies AGAIN? Even though six out of nine of them are kind of lame? Well, yeah, it is worth buying them again, they look stunning and come in a wonderful package that displays nicely with the rest of your Star Wars swag. This release offers each film on 4k and blu ray and then there is an additional blu ray with special features for each film. This set also comes with digital codes so you can visit a galaxy far far away no matter how far you are from your precious boxset. Keep in mind, there are special features from previous releases that have not made it to this collection (hence the 4 star rating) so don't part ways with your older releases just yet. Also, cheapskates may notice that it's cheaper to buy each 4k release separately (especially if you pretend the prequel trilogy and the sequel trilogy don't exist which I am wont to do) but you miss out on all of the bonus content and sweet packaging.
