Incredible experience in 4K UHD with Dolby Atmos

I absolutely love this collection! The packaging is great, except for one very minor complaint—the discs are a little difficult to remove from the thick cardboard pages. I have only watched one disc so far—Episode 4: A New Hope. I watched it on my 4K TV with a 4K UHD BluRay player and my AV Receiver with Dolby®️ Atmos™️ speakers in a 5.1.2 configuration. The whole 3D sound experience and the better picture make for an incredible experience. The limited edition box set is also a great value! 27 discs in a beautiful box set. That works out to less than $10 a disc. Yes, it’s a little pricey, but you get all nine movies that make up the complete Skywalker Saga, both in 4K/UHD BluRay plus the same movies in HD BluRay and nine bonus BluRay discs. I am very pleased with my purchase and highly recommend it for Star Wars fans who would like the complete saga and an incredible experience! P.S. Since this lis a limited edition, it would have been nice if each box set were numbered.

    A Complete Box Set

To start I have to say I wondered if there would ever be a complete box set, but finally it has come out. I've been a long time Star Wars fan since 1977. Over the years many versions have come out and I have bought each one. To go through every disc and give individual reviews I believe I'll leave it up to each buyer. However the Original films look amazing considering the time frames in which they were released. I feel Lucasfilm has done the best that can be done. The Original Trilogy being shot solely on film it can be cleaned up, where the digital films like the prequels being shot mostly digitally made it easier to clean up. They look great amazed by the rich colors and dark space scenes are impressive. I love the Dolby Atmos surround mix it's like hearing them all over for the first time. Some serious bass in these mixes. If you are a Star Wars fan I highly recommend picking up this 4K box set. Heck even if your not a fan. :)

    4K Awaits...

I can honestly say this will be the last time I purchase these older Star Wars films in ANY format. Why? Because I went down the rabbit hole after every_single_encarnation ever released. VHS, VHS with extended never before seen footage, laserdisc, DVD, DVD extended, Bluray, and now....drumroll....4K. They DO look and sound better than ever. If you are a fan, why would you, could you not want these awesome films in 4K? The discs do look amazing, sound amazing. Not a huge fan of the cardboard sleeve for the disc storage, but there is a "cool-slickness" about the overall packaging. This set will adorn my shelves for years to come. I am not sorry I went for it. However, this is where I draw the line in the sand. So temp me with the single 4K steel book versions all you want, but here is where I get off of this money vortex. No other film franchise could have sucked my cash to a galaxy far, far away. Buy It...this is the set you are looking for...

I've bought just about every release of Star Wars, so purchasing this set was a no brainer for me. But I've wanted to own all of Star Wars on 4k for a long time, so I had avoided buying the last couple of films on regular blu-ray in anticipation of a set being released. The letter from Mark Hamill is a very nice touch. The binder is nice, though for a few it is difficult to get the disc out, and for one the bottom had come unglued and the disc was trying to fall out a little. The art is gorgeous. I would have preferred Solo and Rogue One be in here also, but those were not "Skywalker" stories, so thematically I understand. I have not been through all the bonus material yet, but apparently some deleted scenes are missing. So I will be hanging on to my blu ray set and original trilogy collector's edition DVD release that includes the original theatrical Han-shot-first edits of the original trilogy, which are confirmed NOT in this new set. There are also some complaints of excessive post-processing in the original trilogy, but that's a 4k film version issue and not a critique of the set itself. So overall very good and a must for die-hards who want to get all 4k versions at once, but there's no excuse in a set this vast and at this price to leave out anything, even if it meant adding 3 more discs.

The nine Skywalker Star Wars movies (episodes 1-9) are included here in both UHD/4K and regular Blu-ray format, plus extras, so 3 discs per movies for a total of 27. The 4K presentation is great, even for the movies like Episode 1 which were ground-breakingly filmed in digital format, but of course at a lower resolution at that time in 1999 (movies shot on film transfer to 4k just fine). The packaging is OK, with a slide-apart case. The discs, however, are inserted into the edge of thick 'pages' or sleeves, which means you have no choice but to grab the edge of the disc with your fingers and get fingerprints on it, but that's not so terrible. The 'pages' have interesting pictures and snippets of text on them - but when the package described a collectible book, that's not really what I was thinking. All in all, come for the 4K/UHD.

The package is very cool but not functional difficult to remove the discs and will likely East scratch. So far the 4K Blu-rays play flawlessly (when dust and fingerprints are cleaned off) and the 4K rendition looks incredible. The HDR for the 4K discs is HDR10 which still looks vivid but considering the price should be Dolby Vision. The digital download versions (one code for each movie included) are in Dolby Vision so clearly these versions do exist as licensed by Disney and could have easily been included on the 4K Blu-ray Discs. The discs audio is Dolby True HD but not Dolby Atmos, the latest standard. Again given the price Dolby Atmos would be nice. The bonus disc for each movie (9 total) includes most but not all of the legacy content from the original Blu-ray of the six pre Disney films and additional content. No Empire of Dreams. No deleted scenes for the Rise of Skywalker. The bonus content is good but I expected more. Keep in mind that the Original Trilogy is not the original theatrical release cut but the Special Edition release. This is expected considering Lucas has said many of times he does not want the original theatrical release cuts to see the light of day again.

I've had almost all the various versions of this over the years, from the original VHS of the original movie (which I wish I still had, since Lucas won't release any versions that he hasn't ruined with all his ridiculous "additions") through laser disks and then various DVD's and Blu Rays. None of them looked as good as these do though. The later films visually are more appealing as there are less artifacts from the old school special effects that are magnified in a UHD screen. But all look better than they have on other formats. I like the pull apart cover and the book inside, but I'm not a fan of the sleeves. Some people worry about scratching, I'm less worried about scratches than I am of simply getting things OUT sometimes. They really want to stay put quite frequently. But I like having the complete Star Wars storyline in a single box set, and one that has such high visual quality on top of it all. With my OLED TV, it's a new experience again to watch things I've seen for over 40 years...

This is a pretty big layout for 4K discs. So, do you get your money's worth? Reviewers comments regarding the upgraded video mention soft images in many scenes. But, from seeing all the content myself and being a prejudiced fan of the entire Star Wars saga, I'd say its not a distraction from the story. I noticed improvements in every disc. Obviously, the most recent movies are going to be better in terms of both video and audio quality. Just expect that.... Dolby Atmos is definitely better in the later releases but benefit the older originals nevertheless. If you are a major fan, the bonus will be the packaging and the additional discs that go into how the movies are made and the like. So, if you've got a few extra bucks and are a big fan, go for it. I did and have no regrets.

Let's get this part out of the way first: If you already have the Star Wars movies on each format they were released (VHS, DVD, Blu-Ray), you're probably moaning "Oh man, the studios are quadruple-dipping", because I said it too (only using different and more colorful language). But I'm also a fan, and while I wasn't crazy about the last third of the saga, I wanted something to signify my jump into 4K video. And this was it. I got it when it went on sale (May the 4th be with you), so if you're waiting for the price to drop like I was, be patient, because it should go on sale again. You're going to get all the movies from A New Hope (1977) through The Rise of Skywalker (2019). You will not get through them all in one day, unless you take some short cuts, and phooey on you if you do.

I didn’t award FIVE stars because Lucas didn’t provide the original, theatrical releases. We get the kiddified Cantina shootout where Greedo fires first and Han fires best. No need for this: once Greedo pointed his blaster at Han, that’s an overt act of aggression and Han acts in self defense when he fires, even when he fires first as in the theatrical release. For this price point, a lavish, illustrated hard bound book really would have set this piece off. But maybe they’re waiting to fleece us for an 8k version? On a related note, I would love to see the Star Wars saga updated and re-released in theaters and Blu-Ray. For example, the death of the Death Star should no be so swift. A gigantic moon sized station shouldn’t vaporize but rather split up in big and small pieces. A Death Star meteor shower into Yavin’s moon and stormtrooper bodies and body parts would more convincingly demonstrated the destruction. The Super Star Destroyer, or should we say Stupor Star Destroyer, does nothing in the series. Change that! But this is an excellent purchase and will entertain for a long time. Buy and slot in Rogue One 4k too.

I didn't need this set, I have all these movies in various formats going back to VHS. It is very nicely packaged with sliding sides revealing the home-style holder if the discs. I am not a fan of the slide in cardboard disc holders... they really tight which makes me a little concerned they could damage the discs. There is a cool inserted letter signed by Mark Hamill (a copy not an individual signature) that I wish was protected a bit better like in a envelope or something. I kind of wish it had Rogue One in the set too . I know it it isnt strictly part of the 9 movies but it does feel like episode 3.5. All these are minor complaints. Although I had the last three movies in UHD already, I didnt mind the double dip to get the saga all in one. I haven't watched all of them yet but there are plenty of reviews about disk quality available out there to refer to. If you need the first six movies in UHD, it's a no brainers. The extra disc of extras for each movie is just icing on the cake. Star Wars and/or UHD fans should have already bought it before getting to the end of this review.

I have watched about half the films so far and the transfer is nothing but amazing. Watching A New Hope in 4K details is just incredible. It us like seeing a film for the first time with all the extra details you can see. The sound quality is fantastic. So much so my wife has asked me to lower it down at night while watching as it keeps her awake. The book the discs come in is a very nice touch. When you remove a disc it is labeled where they go which I like. The pictures of each page I like a lot. Only complaint is that the sleeves are way to tight. I'm nervous taking them out or putting back in. But otherwise I highly recommend for any Star Wars fan. 1 collection in a gorgeous case to display in the best picture quality I have seen these films in.

Episodes 1 through 9 all in a box

There will always be arguments about the Star Wars movies and which ones were good and which ones were bad/horrible. So I will focus on the box set itself. The black outer box slides open separating from the center. It's 24.5" when wide open and 13" shut. It is 2" thick, which is nice as 9 movies (Steelbooks or not) would take up more room than this one will. Inside is a rectangular book that holds the blu-ray and 4k for each movie per page. 6 pages at the back holds the bonus discs. Each bonus page has a "behind the scene" photo. What keeps it from being a 5 star review are the "pouches" each disc is in. It takes a bit of effort for them to come out. While they probably won't scratch, you may get your finger prints on the data side of the disc. Phantom Menace doesn't give me a true 4k feel until you have the close up shots. The rest are definitely 4k appearance on top of the close ups. There is also a signed printed letter from Mark Hamill. Worth $250? Breaks down to almost $28 a movie, but I think it would be a great deal if you got it at $200- $220.

The box itself looks amazing, it has a leather like feel to it and opens up from the sides to reveal a silver book that contains all the Skywalker movies, bonus discs, and original artwork from each of the 9 movies. The movie pages have the 4K and Blu-ray discs housed in their own respective sleeves in the upper right corner. They are labeled as such when you remove them. Removing the discs is not that easy. The cardboard slick sleeve material behind it doesn't appear to be a scratch problem, but getting them in and out will most likely get fingerprints on the edges each and every time. They are tightly in place, but over time, perhaps they will loosen on the sides. But in general in a fantastic boxset.

I'd been holding out for the 4K version of this series and I have to say I am a little disappointed by some of the 4k conversions. The first thing I did when I got this home was to make MKVs out of them. I'm glad I did this because I found out that one of my discs was defective. Rather than deal with returning the thing to Customer Service and hoping that I got another set with all good discs I just went out and bought another Empire Strikes Back which has the same disc art as the one in the box set. Thankfully, you can't tell the difference between the two. There is no cost savings by buying the box set. You might be better off buying the titles separately. The box is big and doesn't really fit on my blu-ray shelf in any orientation other than laying flat. Had I bought the films individually I would not have had to buy an extra disc and I would have saved shelf space.

This is a nice collector's set of the Skywalker saga. The price is reasonable considering you get all nine movies in 4K, as well as a load of extras. I do have two issues with it: 1 - The original trilogy is the special edition versions - I would have much rather had the theatrical originals in this set. 2 - The paper package info (inside the plastic, but not actually part of the set) was affixed to the box with easy-release glue. It should have come off easily, but unfortunately when I removed it, a small tear was made on the collector's box. The paper should have been included without being attached to the box. Overall, I would recommend this set if you haven't purchased blu-rays of the movies previously.

So, this is a Best Buy Exclusive yet sold on Amazon for a $100.00 more. Go figure. It is your choice. I wasn't willing to buy the individuals ones. I bought black 4K 3 holder cases and put the movies in these on my shelf. If you are like me, I watch the extras maybe once or twice so I don't need the big box (and it is big!) crowding my blu ray 4K shelf. I also used a optical cloth to get each disc out of the card board sleeves. Oh, yeah, the movies are wonderful! so are the extras. PS Don't talk to me about waiting for steelbooks! Sell yours and get this...Enjoy!

I love this set. The box is great, the book looks cool, the artwork and photos on each page are lovely, and the note from Mark Hamill is a great touch. But, in a Blu-ray set, there is one other pretty important element. The discs. They're perfectly fine, of course. Standard fare, the film, a commentary (Nice to have TFA'S as someone who never got the 3D release. Odd that TROS doesn't have one, though.), and a scene select, with relatively boring, semi-matching menus. The problem starts before all that, when you try to take the discs out. It's EXTREMELY annoying. Almost every other time I had to grab the disc by both sides and yank it out, and for a couple it was still a struggle with that method. I guess I prefer it to them just falling out, which is another pretty common issue with these sleeve type holders, but that's not saying a whole lot. I usually use the digital versions after the first watch, so it won't be an issue too often from now on, but it's something to be aware of.

This is a great set for star wars fans who want to own the whole Skywalker saga . The discs are a bit hard to remove from their sleeves, but if you're careful it's not a big issue. Some people don't seem to like the box it comes in, but honestly it's fine. Here's my issue : The Empire Strikes back Blu-ray disc has a menu flaw where the dialogue is all garbled for selections. The movie plays fine otherwise, but this is a clear blemish in an otherwise beautiful set. I'm wondering has anyone else had this issue/flaw. I'm considering seeing about a replacement disc. Everything else seems to be flawless though. May the force be with you All, always... And remember: " Do or do not; there is no try".

First let me say the quality of watching a 4K movie in a 4K DVD player as opposed to streaming it is much much better. So having said that, when you can get all 9 Star Wars movies in 4K and the Blurays basically as a throw in, all coming in a really nice boxed set. Oh... and the digital copies, also a bonus. Did I mention the price? Lets just say each movie disc (18) were under $5. Fantastic!!
