Fantastic chair with great support, style and value compared to much more expensive brands. Very happy with this purchase and would recommend it to others! I did have to find a local Steelcase dealer to order the headrest add-on, as Best Buy doesn’t stock it.

Not as comfortable. I get it, not everyone can afford HM chairs and on a budget it’s a fine pick. The char didn’t provide flexibility in lumbar and neck support that I seek. Nonetheless I do recommend this product with a solid B grade.

    Good Mid-Tier Office Chair

I've sat in a Steelcase chair at my office since 2015. It's been my favorite chair thanks to it's comfort, adjustability, and how well it's held in the 7 years I've been sitting in it. It's probably most similar to the Series 2 now, but so far besides a slightly smaller and more plasticky frame the Series 1 seems to hit all the same points. I can't say how long this particular chair will last, but if my experience with my other chair is any indication I won't be needing to buy a desk chair for several years. Assembling the chair was simple, though I found no instructions in my box. It comes in 4 pieces that all snaps and slides together with no need for tools. I definitely could have figured out the assembly without looking it up, but better safe than sorry. The construction is mostly plastic, but it's rock solid. Nothing creaks or feels loose. I like the look of the chair; it’s very modern and bright, but it’s a bold look that tends to clash with anything that doesn’t match it. A little bit about me, I'm 6' 3" and about 260 lbs. So I'm a bigger guy. I found the chair to be slightly small for me, but I was able to get it adjusted in a comfortable position. In addition to the standard up/down the seat can be adjusted in and out and the armrests are fully adjustable. There’s also an adjustable lumbar support. The lumbar support adjustment I did find a little difficult to get into position and it was harder than I’d have liked it to be to make incremental adjustments, but all of the other adjustment mechanisms were very easy to work with. The chair can lock to an upright position or recline, though the tension for the recline is fixed at 2 different levels. The seat is plenty big enough for me and the back goes about up to the bottom of my shoulder blades. I think I would benefit from a headrest on the back, but I felt supported enough. The armrests are just a tad small for my liking, but they’re still comfortable. The casters are made for carpet and that’s what my chair currently resides on and I’ve had no problems rolling in and out of my desk. The upholstery is polyester and plenty soft, though out of the box I didn’t enjoy the feel of it against bare skin. I think this is something that will improve over time though as I break it in. The chair back is a thick mesh material with plenty of support behind it. Overall I’m very happy with this chair. I think with any chair the best way to know if you’re going to be happy with it is going to be to find a way to sit in it first. I do think this particular series is probably better suited to smaller frames and it may not be the best option for a full 40-hour week, but if you’re looking for something that’s comfortable and is going to hold up for a long time I think it’s definitely one to consider.

I never give bad reviews but this chair is horrible . A fold up lawn chair has about the same amount of comfort. My tailbone was killing me sitting in this chair for maybe a hour. The arms slide all over the place . The lumbar support is trash . This chair is honestly worth maybe 100 USD .

The chair is very comfortable to sit in for extended periods. I work from home so having something that is solidly built is a must. Due to the nature of my job, I am required to be sitting at the desk for extended periods and was noticing my previous chair wasn't quite providing enough support in the seat cushion. The assembly was super easy and didn't require any tools. I just slid the hydrolic cylinder into the wheel base, placed the main chair body on it and slid the seat assembly into the main body until it clicked. The mesh back is sturdy and the adjustable lumbar support actually supports. The reclining tension can be adjusted which I also like. The armrests are height adjustable and have a little bit of movement on the top part itself in four directions. The seat cushion also slides forward which helped someone a little bigger like myself. I was able to get the chair feeling perfect for my size and even though I am heavy and a little wide, I never felt cramped in it. Overall I am very pleased with the features and build quality of the chair. I do see this lasting for quite some time and definitely will be recommending it to my co workers.

I have tried 3 chairs for my home office since I retired 8 years ago and none gave me the support, seating setup options or comfort this chair provides. The main issue I had in selecting a chair was it had to fit in the chair opening of my 30-year-old metal desk (just cant get these anymore) and this chair fit fine in the opening. As I have gotten older back support has become more important to me and this feels great when sitting and even more important once I get up after hours sitting. Very minimal packing so much so I was worried that the chair may have been damaged in shipping – but no worries there. Once unpacked it was together in less than 5 minutes and instructions have a QR code if you care to watch a video on assembly. I wheeled into my office and set to adjusting the; Seat height Seat depth (nice option) Back tension/angle Lumbar (slide adjustment on seat back) Adjustable arms – height/width/pivot/depth. They also move when the back is moved. Also has 5 casters that are smooth, quiet and give solid base to chair. 12-year limited warranty Dislikes; Only 3 options for back tension/angle. Less tension, a little bit more tension or locked. Would be nice to have a more tunable range of tension and can only lock in upright position. Back seemed a tad short as top hit me middle of shoulder blades. Still very comfortable but would help support my head better if higher. Back cannot be adjusted up/down. Seat padding seems a tad thin to me, but I have a what in the old days would be termed a boney backside. The chair seems very solidly built and is very comfy overall and looks great and I look forward to many years of use.

I got my Steelcase Series 1 Chair a few days ago as my old (around a decade!) office chair was on the verge of collapse…ok maybe not collapse lol, but where there was once tension or support there was no longer. Before I get into the specifics of the quality of this lovely piece of office furniture I want to speak to something that really impressed me, the ease of assembly. This thing is so incredibly easy to assemble, it made us laugh. Like no tools and could put it together in a minute if you tried. Well done design team! Ok, so now onto the important stuff. The chair itself probably isn’t the most comfortable I have ever used, though it is quite comfy. The arm rests are not padded and I’m a little torn on this. They are not hard plastic but I am used to softer arm rests. I am a few days into this chair and I am getting used to it. On the plus side, I do like the overall design of the arm rests in that they are thinner than most chairs so there is less to get in way of a desk if you like to get that chair pulled up close like I do. Every other part of the chair however, I love. The seat is comfy and has the ability to slide backwards and forwards. The back is very comfortable and has excellent support. There is adjustable lumbar support and adjustable tension on the recline option. The up and down movement is pretty standard for a nice office chair. And even though I do kind of miss some padding, the arm pads that are there slide and twist which is very nice and of course the arm rests adjust up and down as well. I’m 6’2” and about 220 and I feel fully supported and that the chair has adjusted to comfortably support my frame. I would actually say quality of the customizable options to get a great fit are this chairs greatest feature. So after testing this chair out for a bit I would say I have upgraded my original opinion from 4*s to 5*s. This is just due to getting accustomed to the arm rests. Every other part of this chair is well designed and offers a wonderful combination of feeling light, but well built and sturdy at the same time. If this chair is in your budget I would recommend it to a friend.

This is a very comfortable chair. At first glance, it looks kind of small, but unreality, it packs large comfort. Assembly: Very easy. I was expecting a box full of parts and a bag of screws, which was not the case. The chair was in 4 parts, and no tools were required. All it took to assemble was set the base down, put the vertical pole in the base, click the seat on the pole, and click the padded seat bottom on. Easy peasy. Use: The chair is very adjustable to make it comfortable for you. The seat bottom slides forwards and backwards via a button on the bottom that you hold down, and then slide the seat. Overall chair height is adjusted like you would like it would be, pull up on a tab and it goes up or down depending if there is weight on the chair or not. Each arm rest can adjust in height, width and angle, which makes It very customizable for comfort in your arms and shoulders. There is a lumbar support in the seat back; however, you can only adjust the height of the lumbar, not really an in or out type of adjustment. The last adjustment is the recline. You can lock the chair upright, or there are two levels of resistance to leaning back. You simply spin a knob under the seat for locked, or either of the two resistances. Comfort: The chair is very comfortable. The mesh back allows for breathability, while providing support. The seat bottom is cloth, though very comfortable and I can sit in this chair for hours at a time while working. My shoulders no longer hurt as I'm able to adjust the arm rests to exactly what I need. The lumbar, while not 100% adjustable, provides a nice support in the lower back. Cons: I wish the back recline had some more resistance, even when on the "toughest" resistance, the seat is fairly easy to recline. I also would like a bit more adjustment to the lumbar support. Overall: Very comfortable chair, and I can work for hours while not fidgeting around and getting uncomfortable.

The Steelcase Series 1 Chair is nicer than a lot of cheaper desk chairs I've tried, but still isn't my favorite. First of all, one thing that I really liked and really surprised me about the chair was how easily it went together. It was literally 3 steps and required zero tools. You put the piston into the hole in the base, and then the chair assembly on top of that, and last, you slide the seat onto the assembly. Everything just clicks together and it took me less than a couple of minutes to get it completely put together. Ergonomically, the chair does feature several adjustments to get it where you need it. The seat can of course be raised and lowered. But it can also slide in and out to better support your legs. And you have 3 different recline settings. The first two, I cant really tell a difference. It isbaically just loose so you can lean back. The third is locked upright. What it's missing is a true recline feature, like a car seat. I don't need it to recline flat, but I would like to be able to adjust the angle. As it is, it seems just a tad bit too upright for me when it's locked in place. I'd prefer it reclined just a few degrees. There is also a little lumbar pad thing in the back that you can adjust up and down a few inches. I really didn't notice much difference when moving it. Finally, you can adjust the armrests several different ways. They can be moved up and down, forward and backward, left and right, and swivel in and out. It really gives you a lot of flexibility for how your arms lay, which is really important for ergonomics. However, the only adjustment that locks in place is up and down. All the other adjustments can be made on the fly, without having to press a button or anything, which is fine when I actually want to make adjustments. But in practice, they move around way too easily. I find that when I go to adjust my sitting position, just how you would naturally do throughout the day, I end up sliding the armrests unintentionally. The more I've used it over the past week, the more I notice them just sliding into different positions. This is probably the most annoying thing to me about the chair. They really needed a way to lock them into position. Overall, the chair is more comfortable than cheap chairs I've used, but I still end up feeling pretty uncomfortable after a few hours. It could be that I need to tweak the ergo settings a bit more, but I have another chair in this price range that I am just much more comfortable in. I think this will be my secondary chair that goes into the extra room.

I was really impressed with the ease of assembly. Out of the box the chair came in four pieces and took about 2 minutes to snap together. Other than you're hands, no tools are required. Visually it looks very modern and sleek. It has every adjustment you could ask for and expect in an office chair. I was a little skeptical with the lumbar support but it actually works pretty well. My back feels very supported. It spins and rolls around with ease. Compared to other chairs I've owned it is extremely light which makes me question its durability but seems ok so far. The material they used seems to be of high quality. As I sit in this chair typing this review I'm reminded of its small cons. The arm rests are very adjustable but don't have much cushion or give to them. I feel like they need to upgrade the arm rests and maybe add a little more padding to the seat cushion. The seat cushion is a bit firm. I would also like to see the back come up a few more inches for us taller people. Is this a chair you could sit in for 8 hours a day? Yes. Is this the most comfortable chair I've ever used? No. It is a nice chair though and doesn't take up much space like some do. I guess we'll see how long it holds up with daily use. If your a bigger person you might want to look at some of their other models though. Overall I think this Series 1 is a great choice if you are looking for a quality office chair that wont break the bank. With the amount of color choices and custom adjustments it should work well for most work and home office applications. If they would upgrade the padding in the arm rests and seat I would have given it 5 stars.

You Get What You Pay For

The phrase "you get what you pay for" is often used, but in this case, it is so appropriate. This chair is amazing. ASSEMBLY Most cheap chairs require massive amounts of assembly - you end up having to attach the arms to the seat, the back to that assembly, screwing the base plate into the seat. Assembly time with cheap chairs takes at least 15 minutes. This product was stunning in its simplicity - no tools required! There is a base with the floor casters; there is the lift component that goes into the hole in the base. Then you attach the already assembled seat back and base and arms into that. Then you slide the seat cushion assembly into the already assembled chair. End of assembly. FEATURES The arm height adjusts with relative ease. The seat height adjusts as easily. The seat back reclines as you need it without the seat cushion/base moving so the chair won't tip over like I've done with cheaper chairs (or when my cat would get on the back of the chair). The arms swivel. And this chair doesn't look like it would take up less real estate in my u-shaped desk, but it is less space hogging than the cheap chair it replaced. Plus I can swivel freely without running into the desk on any side - the arms being height adjusting so they can slide down. And because I like my seat height up for my legs, even at that max setting, my chair still fits under the tables that make my computer/work desks. The back of this chair is wonderful - a strong mess that also has a unique back support with straps that gives you full support as you recline the seat back. The seat cushion is covered in cloth - a wonderful thing since most cheap chairs have that bonded leather that will start disintegrating days after the first use. The entire chair is stable and there is no rocking with the height tube assembly in the chair base like cheap chairs.

Talk about easy set up...the included sheet of paper wasn't even needed to put together this chair. Everything just pops right in. I've never spent this little time putting together an office chair. Plenty of adjustments are included. Air rest height, distance, angle. Seat distance form the back. Lumbar adjustment... this one should have been more adjustable. The highest setting is too low for me. The seat is pretty dang comfortable and reminds me of car seat cushions. It's firm, but has give and has a good bit of spring to it. I'd suppose it should hold its shape like a car seat. I'll come back in 5yrs to and report on that, lol. Speaking of 5yrs, while the seat may be kinda expensive, if you find the right chair it'll last a long time. My old chair was 8yrs old and still kicking. So this one should last as long as long as I take care of it. The back does lean, but you can't lock it in any of the lean settings. You have fixed at attention, heavy resistance lean, and light resistance lean. There's no way to lock it in any other position other than at attention. Even the heavy resistance setting is useless because I have to engage my abs if I wanna slouch. So you're either at attention or taking a nap. No chill mode with this chair. Honestly I'm surprised at the comfort of the chair. It's not the most comfortable for me, but I can't say the same for any other user since it's all relative to your preference. All I can say is take you behind to BestBuy and see if they have one you can take a seat in and judge for yourself. I like the chair, but I woiuld have loved it if the back could lock in multipositions.
