Awesome characters in an otherwise bland movie

This movie is a product of WB/DC trying too rush out to many superhero movies in order to compete with Marvel during 2015 - 2017. Director and actors were great but the plot was just basic and simple and at times not sure what it wants to be. Pretty evident that the writing department was given a few days to pen something together in order to make a release deadline. A shame too as I really want to love this move for the acting alone but find it hard since a majority of the cast is left with nothing to do. Worth a watch but don't expect much of a story Blu-ray disc and audio is top notch. Watch the extended version for some much needed exposition that was cut out of the theatrical.

I love The Suicide Squad. I thought it was going to be ridiculous or something. It's far from it. With a great blend of action and comedy I totally recommend it. You may want to watch it with out your children the first time but I really see no reason most ages can enjoy it!

This movie was great. Tons of action. Good story. Great special effects. Will Smith and Margot Robbie were standouts in this movie. They always have great chemistry when they're matched up. Get this movie. You will enjoy it.

Movie is ok, blu-Ray transfer is great, dark, Inky blacks, very sharp, can’t imagine 4K blu-Ray looking any better. Extended version isn’t revolutionary. It’s maybe 11-12 minutes longer. It’s nothing like Batman V. Superman where the longer cut resulted in a superior film.

    Satisfactory Squad

‘Suicide Squad’ was one of my most anticipated movies of the summer. While I had little prior knowledge of the supervillain team, the trailers were excellent and I had high hopes that THIS would be the movie to get the DC Extended Universe franchise on the right track following the first two mediocre entries (Man of Steel and Batman v Superman Dawn of Justice). Top-tier talent brings the Squad to life – Will Smith, Margot Robbie, Jared Leto, plus director David Ayer at the helm following up the acclaimed ‘End of Watch’ and ‘Fury.’ It’s clear that Warner Bros wanted this to be their ‘Guardians of the Galaxy’ and they marketed the heck out of it to try and build that image. To this movie’s credit, it is VERY entertaining from the first frame to the last with lots of fun action sequences that take advantage of each character’s widely varied powers. One-liners hit more often than they miss making for a lighter, goofier tone than I anticipated from a movie featuring a bunch of psycho killers. For DC fans, just to see a lot of these characters like Killer Croc and Diablo finally make their jump from the comic book pages to the big screen will be enough for the price of admission. Deadshot and Harley Quinn elevate every scene they’re in while the lesser characters like Boomerang add some flavor and mix things up in complimentary roles. This movie is really fun and keeps you engaged, unfortunately there’s some issues which hold ‘Suicide Squad’ back from hanging with the best comic book films. The editing is choppy as scenes begin and end abruptly failing to flow very well together. A lot of expository dialogue is used to introduce the myriad characters in the first half of the movie…while the second half is filled to the brim with guns-blazing action hardly giving you a moment to catch your breath. This movie could benefit from an Ultimate Edition treatment like what Batman v Superman received – an extra 20 minutes to smooth out rough edges and allow scenes to breathe. Without getting too far into spoiler territory, the choice of villain is a disappointment. The opponent of the Suicide Squad is decidedly supernatural and a lot of the violence is bloodless and without stakes. These creative decisions were probably controlled by the studio to get the film a PG-13 rating, but it neuters a lot of the action as swords and bullets pass through the equivalent of computer generated rock monsters. Ignore the critics who overwhelmingly annihilated this movie - ‘Suicide Squad’ is a flawed but entertaining experience that you should check out in the theatre. It just doesn’t quite capitalize on all of its potential.

Suicide squad. Okay, here’s my thing, I don’t think it’s fair to expect another heath ledger joker because ledger is dead and I’m not sure that anyone can top that off. That said, I’m not disappointed by the no heath ledger thing, I’m disappointed by the no real joker thing. And because I’m on about a background character (he gets like 10 minutes screen time), it’s almost obvious that I don’t remember the actual movie. If you like comic books, especially the books that these characters are based off of, or even just only watch the films, look someplace else for excitement. 5.5/10

    Great Steelbook but slightly overpriced

I absolutely love Steelbooks (besides the obvious fact a metal case looks cooler than a normal plastic one) for their artwork on the front and back covers, and even found on the inside of the case. This Steelbook is a perfect example of this. The poster on the front cover is a minimalist design, taking each character and giving them each a skull with a signature look unique to each one's powers/abilities or characteristics. The back cover is a mural of the Belle Reve Prison, which is the home base of operations for the Suicide Squad. The inside cover artwork is an actual photo from the film. It was taken during a key battle near the end of the film, with all of the characters standing in a fight pose next to each other. This is akin to the lineup pose the Avengers did in the NYC battle near the end of their first film. For me, this scene was one of the highlights of the film. I loved seeing all the characters come together and fight together, so it's a nice touch to see that moment honored in this case. In regards to my title, I say it's overpriced, because I bought this on the release date. It cost me $34.99 which is abnormal for a Steelbook release at Best Buy. I try to buy all the Steelbooks that Best Buy has the exclusive rights to, and they usually range from $19.99-$29.99. I've never seen a Steelbook cost $35, which seems absurd to me to pay that much for a Blu-ray copy of a film. I assume the price hike is because this bundle includes a 4K Blu-ray of the film instead of a normal Blu-ray, and also includes a digital copy and an extended cut of the film. The extended cut was interesting to watch. The last live action DC film, Batman v. Superman, got an R-rated extended cut that was far better than the original theatrical version of the film. The Suicide Squad extended cut however, has it's pros and cons. There were some scenes I absolutely loved and wish they had been included in the original film (most notably a Joker and Harley Quinn scene that explores the abusive relationship they have) so for me it was worth the price just to see that footage. On the negative side though, there was at least one new scene that I could've done without. It was completely pointless dialogue and appeared to do nothing except prolong the runtime. In conclusion, I recommend this Steelbook copy to anyone who saw the film in theaters and absolutely loved it or DC comic fans. Unless you're a die-hard fan, the cheaper Blu-ray copy of this film would probably be the better option for most audiences.

I'm not really a fan of the DC stories except for Nolan's Batman trilogy but this one stands out! The 4k version looks better than the 3D version so do yourself a favor and pick it up!

A Great idea that fuzzed because half the story line was badly written while having great characters to develop, on the opposite side. The movie has wonderful heros and telling his/her journey is what made it so fun. The baddie is just silly and underwhelming but evil does have a great, sidekick. Overall, watch the movie because the attempted idea and characters are just awesome. Lots of Laughs, Lots of Damage and Smashing, and Lots of stars that we love. Hopefully, a better writer can make SS2 be the next, big film of Summer.

Although it will never be considered a classic, this is a good popcorn flick. It's fun enough to watch and have fun for an hour and a half. The steelbook is a good addition to my collection.

It’s great seeing a movie in 3D at home. I haven’t seen one around since 4K came out. Having both of some movies, if you have a good 4K with 3D buy the 3D version. You won’t notice any quality difference but the 3D adds so much.

Enjoyed the movie where the bad guys are up to the task to save the world in return for lighter sentences. Loved Margot Robbie's portrayal of Harley Quinn. Can't wait to see her in The Birds of Prey Movie.

Good movie idea, not the best presentation

The idea of making a movie about Task Force X, the Suicide Squad, is really great. This came out a year or two after the success of Marvel's "Guardians of the Galaxy." That movie managed to take a group of relatively unknown characters and turn them into a big blockbuster hit. This movie tried to do the same thing, but it fell short because of a few reasons. The first reason it did not succeed as well as Guardians did is because Guardians had 5 main characters while this movie crammed in over 10 main characters into one movie. That's twice as many as Guardians. When you have to try and explain an entirely new cast of characters and set up a problem for them to fight, things get complicated. This movie would have worked better if they cut down the cast to 5 or 6 members of the squad and spent more time trying to develop them. The second issue why this movie fell flat is the use of the Joker. The Joker is easily one of the most iconic and recognizable villains in D.C. history. Jared Leto's portrayal was played up a lot in the trailer and promotional material for this movie. In the end he is only on screen for about 10 minutes. That's a real let down because they could have done a lot more with making him the villain the squad had to take down. Overall, it's a pretty decent movie, but the bloating of characters and the overused "sky beam" as the antagonist's weapon to destroy the world kept this movie from reaching it's full potential. Also, The D.C. Animated Universe made an animated Suicide Squad movie a few years back called "Batman: Assault on Arkham." I would recommend checking that movie out to see how a more balanced and focused movie featuring the "Suicide Squad" can be done.
