Light Weight Stand with Weak Link

    Posted
    scarmike67

This looked like a medium duty stand in the picture. It was more light duty than I though it would be. The legs are really weak. After about 15 uses, one of the bottom leg sections broke at the clasp. There is a thin white plastic sleeve that fits between the legs at each clasp, and this plastic sleeve broke, so now the leg won't clasp together. This makes the bottom leg sections useless unless you use duct tape. Also, I don't like the handle that's used to position the camera. There is a cup shaped fitting under it with a notch. If you want to tilt the camera all the way forward, the notch has to be lined up straight with the camera before it will tilt. Stand might be ok for limited use a few times a year, but not something for regular use every week or two. I emailed pics to the mfgr and waiting for a response since it has a 'limited lifetime'. Will update if I get a response.

Not Meant for a DSLR Camera

This tripod is probably great for people who just want it for their cell phone, or a light point and shoot camera. However, I bought it to use with my Nikon DSLR 7500 and it does not handle the weight well at all (I'm not using a large lens with it either, just a 17-85mm zoom lens). It feels as though it could tumble over with the wind easily and the winding handle is not sturdy at all. It unwinds rapidly as soon as I take my hand off the handle, no matter what position I put it in. I started using my camera strap to wrap around it, after I got the camera positioned, just to try and prevent it from spinning and unwinding. Would not recommend to anyone who wants to use this with anything heavier than a small point and shoot camera.

Overall it wasn't horrible but I am not a fan of the legs being linked together and though I believe it's done to help with stability the tripod was prone to camera shake with very minimal wind or camera strap movement. This was purchased for me as a gift and the tripod head was it's only redeeming quality but it wasn't enough for me to keep it, Not a bad price with the style of head it includes so get it out of the box and thoroughly inspect it to be sure you like it before purchasing it.

I like this tripod it does exactly what I need and the trigger head is very easy to use. The problem I have is the cheap feel of it with flimsy and light plastic pieces that feel like they will break pretty soon. But for the price compared to similiar tripods it’s a great buy. If this would let me I would give it 3 1/2 stars but if you need a decent tripod in a pinch like I did it’s a great get!!

The ball head comes loose and I find myself constantly having to tighten it up during use. But even with its limitations it is a ok sturdy tripod. Not for use in high windy areas when you need a really slow shutter. Such as night shots of stars. But built well enough to to get a good landscape at dusk. Will hold camera and small-medium lense just fine. Not recommended if using a long super telephoto. Also not very good for pan action.

    Good tripod, lousy mounting plate

I bought this tripod to have a light and portable option for hiking. I am happy with the tripod, but the head itself is no good. The ball head holds ok, but the mounting plate has some wiggle to it. I take long exposure photography, so any movement at all is not acceptable. Like I said I liked how light the legs where, so I am using those with a different head I already had.

I was lookin at the manfrotto monopod which I still prefer but this was a gift to me so I appreciate it. As for a review, it's nice and lift but not too steady where the camera sits. I'm not sure anything more than a canon t5i can be used on this but I also have otbhad the opportunity to really test this baby out. So I would be doing this tripod an injustice. Does it work, yes.

I tried to like this tripod... It is not very good for panning left and right, but just rather using it to hold up your camera on photo shoots. Feels cheap. Handle lever to raise it up broke off while cranking the middle shaft up to get a higher view of my client... was a little embarrassing when it broke off in my hand!

I got this tripod to hold a full frame DSLR and a 70-200mm zoom lens so that I could shoot fireworks on the Fourth of July. It got the job done, but several of the images had some motion blur because of the tripod shaking. If you have lighter, entry-level camera equipment, this should be great. If you're looking to use it with heavier professional grade equipment, I'd pass this one by

I purchased these to replace the head unit for a sturdier Sunpak tripod unit. The legs on this tripod are very cheaply made and flimsy, but the head unit is decent for the price. On the other hand, the head unit for the PlatinumPlus Ultra 7000 is horrible while the legs are solid, so I threw out the legs on this tripod to use the head with the PlatinumPlus Ultra 7000.

    Decent Tripod

This is a very decent tripod. But it isn't very heavy and unless you weigh it down, a stiff breeze could potentially knock it over and ruin your shot. Also, with a larger lens, it strains the locking components and I've notice slight shifts. If you need a professional tripod, get a more expensive one that will not budge a fraction of an inch if you don't want it to.

I purchased this tripod on the fly because I needed one quick.. for a consumer, it would be ok.. for use every so often but not best for a photographer who is doing gigs often.. recommend dishing out the extra money if possible when using professionally

I bought this item for a spoting scope to be used on the range, but the weight limit on the tripod is for camera's heavier lenses. Knowing that my scope is below what it says it can handle I was disappointed in the stability of the mount and the ability to use the positioning arm. If it's for a camera this item will be great. Guess I'll keep looking

This is a good beginner or lightweight tripod but it depends what you're doing. I bought this stand for the pivoting top so that I could have the ability to move the camera however I want. The legs are not a heavy metal so they feel a little cheap but it does get the job done for run and gun type of shoots.

The feet is very nice. The gripper is questionable. Yes, the gripper is supposed to make it easy to move around, but when you squeeze...it itself moves so it defeats the purpose. Maybe is because it's new and it needs to be "worn" in.

Really liked it's design when I got it. Pistol grip and trigger. Problem is, several parts seems to loosen each use so you find yourself constantly tightening them. Trigger spring makes a loud crunching noise when you squeeze it. I've only used it 3 or 4 times. I plan to take a better look at it later. Maybe some lube is needed.

This tripod is prefect for a starting tripod for someone that is still figuring out their shooting style. Also, the grip adjust is good for getting unique angles without doing too many adjustments. Not the most solid build though. Most of the item is made of molded plastic

This tripod.is okay. Sturdy forits weight and good leveling. The thing that made it a 3 is the pistol grip. Part of that may be my unfamiliarity with it. I have kept it to try and get comfortable with it, but I'm much happier with the 7000, also able at Best buy.

This tripod is very well made and easy to set up & use. The only exception being that the pistol style grip does not allow to pan my camcorder smoothly on an 180 degree swivel. This makes the shots shaky when having to follow the action. Otherwise it is a very good tripod.

This really is not bestbuys fault. After looking for months for a Tripod and returning one to amazon because the legs on Tripods today are mostly made of cheap plastic and are very flimsy when completely extended. This is the best I could find.
