A Fun GameBoy Game from the Past!

A fun blast from the past from Super Mario Land 2: 6 Golden Coins! I've played this game as a kid, but never owned it. I've been wanting it for years and now I've finally got it!
Now keep in mind, this game is in black and white. This game was released back in 1992 for the original GameBoy. Way before the GameBoy Color was released. I know everything is in color nowadays, but don't let the fact that this game, (being in black and white), discourage you from playing it. I say give the game a chance.
~MAIN OBJECTIVE~
Mario has his own personal island and castle, but was taken from Wario. Wario puts up a special gate where Mario can't gain access to the castle unless he collects the 6 golden coins to open the gate. The coins are spread throughout the land and it's up to Mario to reclaim his castle and his island from the very greedy Wario! (Also this is where Wario made his first debut in the Super Mario series.)
~POWER UPS~
You got your returning power ups such as the Super Mushroom, Fire Flower, and the Starman. When using the Fire Flower, Mario wears a feather on his cap - just so there will be a noticeable difference since this game is in black and white.
There's one new power up and it's called the Magic Carrot which transforms Mario into Bunny Mario. (Basically just giving Mario bunny ears.) This gives Mario the ability to flap his bunny ears and to hover longer in the air while pressing down the A button.
~GAMEPLAY~
The gameplay is similar to Super Mario Bros. 3 and Super Mario World. Mario has the classic abilities such as the jump, run, and pick up items from Super Mario Bros. 3 and the Spin Jump ability from Super Mario World.
To pull off the Spin Jump, have Mario jump, while in mid-air, press the Down button on the D-pad and he will do the Spin Jump. Unfortunately, when he's small or when he's Bunny Mario, he can't do the Spin Jump.
The game has an overworld map where the player can choose which path to go to. To view the whole map, press and hold the B button and and use the D-pad controls to move around the map. When you're done, just let go of the B button.
The game and the boss fights are kinda on the easy side, but there were 2 or 3 bosses that gave me a little of bit trouble when I played the game for the first time. Once you figure out what to do, it should be easy to defeat the bosses. The final two stages were a little bit more challenging especially the final stage in the castle.
There are 32 levels in total and several different themed zones. I really like how unique each zone has its own theme and different enemies besides the usual Goombas and Koopa Troopas. One of the newer enemies is a shark wearing boxing gloves! :)
~3DS FEATURES~
You can create and load save states anywhere in the game. You can also reset the game as well.
If you press and hold the L and R triggers from behind the 3DS, a little prompt will show up and you press the Y button to switch between two screens. You can either play the game in black and white. Or play it with the green screen like the original GameBoy screen. You can do this at any time! :)
This prompt will show up on the bottom right corner of the screen. (See photos below.)
~FINAL THOUGHTS~
The only minor thing about this game is that it's kinda short and can be beaten in one session. Overall, I still enjoyed it. I love the different themes, music, and enemies of this game. It's very wacky and creative.
If you're a fan of all things Super Mario, then this game is for you! This game is easy to pickup for anyone to play. Whether your young or old. :)

One of the best gameboy games - great for kids. Has it aged? Absolutely. Is it something you can play with your kids? Also yes.
The digital download is a great, cheaper alternative than tracking down an original copy or buying a flashcart. Easy purchase.

This game starts taking advantage of the GameBoy design to make a more unique game. Its not trying to play like the NES/SNES Mario games, it does its own thing. And its quite a challenge.

The cover of this item is in color so I guess I foolishly assumed that the game was too. I purchased it along with two other games that are in color, and it’s my bad for not being sure. It’s just not much fun to have a game be in Black and white. Game is fun tho,

I bought several digital copies of ds games at once, and my bad, didn’t realize this wasn’t in color. It would have been more fun if it were, and the game graphic being in color, I didn’t look more closely at the screenshots of gameplay.
