First I would like to say this watch has a very nice feel and look to it. It was noticed the first day I wore it. The next thing I want to touch base on is that it only does measurements in metric or imperial. To a normal person in the USA that through me off and the only way to change it back to metric was to reset the watch completely. Honestly now there is way to set it after I updated the bios so I am not sure if it was there I maybe I did not find it. There was basically very little to no documentation included. The website seemed like it was an after thought at least for new items. It did seem that it was well positioned for their older items. The battery life when you don't have the screen set to stay on all the time is definately a plus. It lasted for about a week with normal use. I was happy with how it told me that the hours that I was actually asleep and found that portion relatively accurate.

First things first the Spartan Suunto GPS trainer looks very stealthy and sleek in all black. The watch size is pretty big so you can see a lot of the stats on the face when you're doing an activity and the band is stretchy to fit a wide variety of wrists. There are 5 buttons on the watch and they are very simple to learn as to which command they'll do when you press one of them. Getting into the actual features of the watch everything seems to run very smoothly. I've taken the watch on numerous runs from a 10 mi steady run to a 5 mi sprint interval run and the GPS stayed steady throughout along with real time pace which is my favorite feature. A lot of smartphone running apps will fluctuate your pace greatly so you never really know what it really is but this watch is very good at that. The on wrist heart rate monitor is nothing special but it works just fine and it's fairly accurate. I still use a chest strap on my runs but you can do without one if you buy this watch. You can also set up your own intervals on the watch if you want to be alerted when to start and stop an interval and you can choose to set up automatic laps or manual laps by pressing one of the buttons on the watch. This watch is great for a wide variety of sports and it's advertised as having 80 sports modes pre-installed to the watch with running, swimming, and cycling as the main focus so if you do at least one of those activities then this watch should be great for you. The Movescount app is needed to pair with your watch if you want to view your stats on a smartphone but you can also connect it via computer. The app is just slightly different from other fitness apps in the sense that it is only used to track your stats and help you train for your certain event so it'll tell you your heart rate zones and your recovery time until your back in prime condition to continue. Through the app you can also adjust notification settings to be alerted of text messages or third party messaging apps as well as phone calls and emails. Overall, I am really enjoying the watch. I wish it would have a stride and cadence sensor and you were able to pair the runs with other popular running apps but I can do without it and be content to the point where I feel like I'm getting my optimal training. Unfortunately I am not a swimmer or cyclists so I cannot say how the watch works in those regards but as a runner it is one of the best.

It's a pretty good watch, has neat features like the GPS map movie thing. But a couple issues I had were its step tracking, pretty much you can raise and lower your hand in class and you'd be credited for 2-3 steps. The other is notification from phone, it'll alert you to notifications and show the content on display but if you're unable to look at your watch, there's no way to check prior notifications to check what's important and not prior to going to check your phone. Other than those minor complaints it's a good watch the functionality of it are useful

The Suunto - Spartan Trainer GPS Watch has been my first experience with any sort of GPS / training / smart watch and I must say I am very impressed. With respect to the GPS aspect of this watch, I am really looking forward to using the trackback feature the next time I go camping and hiking out in Joshua Tree. It will be nice to just go out and explore while knowing I have a record to assist me in getting back to the main trails. The heart-rate monitor is a bit spotty but works well enough for me as someone who isn’t all that obsessed with tracking such a thing. The various training modes and customization options available on the Suunto website are pretty cool and make it so you can track all sorts of different activities. The smart-watch features likely pale in comparison to what you can get from other watches which are dedicated more to smart-watch features but I am pleased with what this watch can do. I set it up so it notifies me when I receive emails to my focused inbox in outlook which is nice because I don’t need notifications for all of the other random emails I get which go to my other inbox. I’m not sure if other email clients have a similar feature but this works great with outlook. The watch also notifies me of incoming phone calls and text messages. I haven’t figured out how to display the actual text messages instead of just the brief notification that shows up (if it’s even possible) but it’s not really that big of a deal because I would need to use my phone to reply anyways. Overall, I am very pleased with this watch and I highly recommend it!

It doesn't start my car or cut on my stove but it's simply tracks my movements like it's supposed to I haven't been able to activate the Sleep feature so I can't talk to that the battery best I can tell runs about 40 hours until it needs to be recharged. The functionality is there the capability is there it's not the cheap generic when you get at 7-Eleven but it's not the $300 one either. Goldilocks might say it's just right.

    I love this watch

This is a really good running and fitness watch for the price. I chose it mainly because blog reviews suggested it has excellent GPS accuracy for the price. I use it a lot for trail running and I've found that to be true-- it provides accurate feedback on how far you've run and your pace in real time. It also looks good for every day use and is not excessively bulky. It works well enough as a daily fitness tracker (step counter) too. The heart rate monitor is not as accurate as a chest strap, but that's true on any watch. In my experience the heart rate monitoring accuracy can vary a lot depending on where you wear it on the wrist. After some trial-and-error, I've found that wearing it higher up on the wrist (a few inches up from the hand) and keeping it tight provides much more plausible heart rate readings. I like the vast array of different sports options. Unlike some other reviewers, I have not had any problems at all with connecting the watch to the app on my smartphone via Bluetooth, and I have an old cheap Moto Android phone -- perhaps they've fixed the firmware since the other reviewers' complaints? The app is a little slow to sync but works fine. I also like both the smartphone app and the PC app, and they sync up to Strava well. Another nice feature is that you can can set it so that alerts just give you haptic feedback (vibration). It would be nice if it gave you that choice with the alarm too. The interval training feature, which I use a lot, works well as long as all the intervals and rest periods are identical in duration or length, since that is the only option. If you choose the right settings, it both vibrates and gives you an audible alarm when each interval is done and when the next interval is due to begin. My biggest complaint about the watch is that you have to go through too many different screens to make the interval function work. So for example, there is a sport mode called "interval running," but the "interval" feature is turned off by default in that sport mode, so even if you choose "interval running," you still have to go through a bunch of additional screens to turn on the interval feature every time you use it. In addition, even if you turn the interval option on, once you press "start" for the particular exercise (i.e, the "Move" in Suunto lingo), you then have to press the middle right button several times to go across a bunch of screens until you get to the one that allows you to start the interval timer, which is not synced to the timer for the exercise. I'm hoping that Suunto will fix their firmware to make the interval option a little more user-friendly -- it seems like they're constantly working on the firmware. Aside from that bit of inconvenience, this is a great watch for the price, and if you like running and doing a variety of other fitness activities it's a good choice.

    AMAZING Multi-Sport Watch

Suunto finally has the watch I've been waiting for! Other brands aren't competing with the Spartan Trainer for such a great price and for all the functionality this watch offers. I demo'd the watch at an XTERRA race and fell in love instantly. Extremely light-weight on the wrist, it felt like I wasn't wearing anything at all. Ever since I've purchased I've done EVERYTHING with this watch. Swimming, Biking, Trail-Running, even stand-up paddle boarding! This watch has it all. The optical wrist HR is as accurate as I've ever experienced on a GPS watch. If you're training for ANY sport at all, this watch should be your #1 training partner!

    LIGHTWEIGHT SPORTS WATCH

The sports watch was nicely packaged with easy to understand instructions for first use. It was easy to put on and I liked the rubber watch band. It was lightweight and attractive and the large dial was easy to read. The menus were easy to navigate and were intuitive. My PRAISE ends here. I'm not a real sports-minded person, but I did like - I THOUGHT - the tracking of my "daily steps", until I found that it didn't work properly. My first clue that something wasn't "quite right" was my second day of use. I had been walking around (in/out) of the house and felt the number was "too high" by the end of my work day ... but then I thought, maybe I did take more steps than I thought. After having the watch sit on my dressing table overnight, when I put on in the morning, it already had 95 steps recorded. How is this possible from just sitting there? About 2 hours later, the "count" was up to 990 and I knew something wasn't right, because I had been sitting at my desk for most of that time. I finally took off the watch and stared at it for a few minutes. Sure enough, without moving the watch, it was clicking off "steps" .. which I was not doing. Maybe this watch is good for other sports, etc. but for my use, it wasn't effective nor accurate. SORRY....

This is my first Suunto, but I've followed the brand for awhile now. Watch face is clear and easy to read, brightness isn't an issue at all. GPS features worked well for me, no issues syncing satellites or losing signal along a route. The watch synced up with my iPhone easily, and the app worked well. I wish this was a touch screen though for easier use.

    Heart Pumping; Track it

Given the time of year, I haven't been able to check out all the awesome features this wearable has. (too cold to really go distance outside right now). It is easy to wear, and based on comparison with other devices... it measures out my heart rate. You can setup interval settings, which has been EXTREMLY beneficial for indoor training. (Great on the indoor bike). For a health/wearable; it feels more secure then my Gen 1 Apple watch, and not as top heavy (more balanced). For those planning to wear this all day: It will track your daily HR, your steps, and estimate your calorie burn... It also has communication sync with your watch, that is adequate... (Incoming Call, Text, and Schedule notifications) I am EAGER for the weather to turn consistently, so I can check out the other features: GPS, POI Notification (great for bike trail layouts), and SWIMMING usage...

A throwback to old fitness watches, overpriced

My wife used this watch as she is fairly active in the fitness community (more so than I) so after spending about a week using it these are her pros and cons on the watch. Pros: The watch is quick to charge and holds a charge for a fairly lengthy amount of time, fits many wrist sizes and comfortable, large face easy to read, reliable connection to iPhone and gps, texts and other alerts from the iPhone come through the watch face. A lot of functions to utilize on the watch. Cons: The Watch doesn't awake when turn up wrist unless in direct light (like Apples watch does), heart rate doesn't alway register and is not very reliable, doesn't allow ability to track calories and food, app not easy to track activitys (watch has some activities but fairly limited in scope), sleep tracker not accurate, menus difficult to navigate, many functions on the watch are too buried to get to, needs a PC to update firmware/software. Overall my wife thought it was a decent watch but it is likely overpriced to comparable types of watches by about $75 to $100. This is also not a fitness watch but an exercise watch and by that it doesn't do many of the other functions that a fitbit type watch would do. It's primarily a nice watch that will function to track some physical exercises, or a throwback to watches of previous years before fitbit type watches became popular. I cannot recommend this watch at the current MSRP but if you can find it on sale and/or are aware of its limitations it may be worthwhile of a purchase.

    Better products on the market

This fitness tracker is sub par. Upon opening it it looked good. But from the moment I put it on I realized that this was going to be a struggle to use. First the back lighting is bad. And the screen is tough to see. Next all the calculations are in metric and you need to download the app to change any of it. Lastly and most importantly the inaccuracies of the tracker itself are enormous. I had over 10k steps by noon on the first day: sitting at a desk! Apparently any movement of the arm will register steps. That was the straw that broke the camels back. If that can be so inaccurate I cannot expect any other aspect of this tracker to be accurate whatsoever. For the price of this tracker there are plenty of other alternative ones on the market that do a much better job. I would recommend trying out another option, and passing on this one.
