    Noise Floor

Let me preface this conversation by stating that I have Vulcan ears. Let me also say that I once worked in a very high end audio shop in Mt. View, CA. . . Muons, Blades, $55k turntables, etc. Hence, I have some mild experience & have heard all manner of audio equip. Currently, my entire home theater is SVS ultra. . . towers, center, surrounds. I have had the SVS SB-1000s, then upgraded to 2000 Pro. With respect to the aforementioned 2, yes I could hear a very mild and/or faint noise floor with my ear right on top of the cone. However, when I backed away to the listening position (10'-12') it disappeared. I then decided to take a step up using the SVS upgrade program to the SB-3000s. The noise floor on these was nearly twice as audible, & I could most definitely hear them from the listening position. SVS sent me 2 amps. One was DOA, & the 2nd was a tad worse than the originals. I was told that the SB-4000 & Ultras don't have this issue. Strange how the "monkey-in -the-middle" of their lineup is the only one to have that issue. I was told by someone @ SVS that most people don't have a problem with noise floor in the 3000s, or don't care. Further, I was told that I am in the 1% that can hear it. I guess they don't engineer it for the minority that have exceptional hearing. I suppose my "OCD" is some form of disability. Isn't that some form of racism? ;) Needless to say, I sent them back & reinstated the SB-2000 Pros to my system. On a positive note, SVS did say they would keep my upgrade program open indefinitely until they can resolve the issue.
