Not waterproof at all

I’ve now had two of the same doorbell from Swann and it works great when it’s new out of box but it isn’t waterproof at all, it was at 70% battery and it rained and now it won’t charge or appear online.

Posted .Hi Zachary. This doorbell is definitely weatherproof & has an IP56 weatherproof rating. Is there any chance you may have left the rubber port cover on the back open or not fully pushed it in by mistake? That's the most obvious point where water could enter as everything else is fully sealed. I've had one of these doorbells installed at my own home for 2 years in all kinds of weather and it still works very well. -SD, Swann Team

Did not work as expected

But it goes on and off line several times a day. You need to be able to connect it to a power source to have it work. My door frame is not wired for electricity, so I have to take it off and recharge the battery every 7-10 days. I do like that the chime has several different chimes, that you can change easily

Video doorbell

Posted .Hi Ethan. Battery life will vary by how many events the doorbell records each day and how many times you live view it. The simplest way to get longer battery life is to reduce the number of clips (especially false trigger clips) by lowering the motion sensitivity level, applying a motion grid, and turning the battery saver mode on in the app if it's not already enabled. You should be able to go a few months between charges in a typical household setup. I am not sure how to solve the audio issue you've mentioned but if the hardware has a fault, please contact Swann and we can arrange a replacement. support.swann.com -SD, Swann Team.

Excellent and affordable high quality doorbell

The 4K ultra high-resolution video quality makes a big difference compared to my our previous similar 1080 or 2K varieties of doorbell cams. I also really love the flexible installation options that allow for placement pretty much anywhere with use of the rechargeable internal battery option. Here’s my detailed review after use. • Video Quality: doorbell offers top notch 4K UHD resolution with excellent ultra-wide 165° viewing angle and a square (1:1) aspect ratio. This provides crystal clear detailed images especially when zoomed in to further distance items. I’ve really noticed a huge improvement here if I’m trying to catch the license plate of a vehicle or even looking back at something for my neighbors across the street (only when they ask me to of course). The aspect ratio offers a square video image at 165° viewing angle in each direction to gain incredible access from ground to sky and super wide. The camera/lens perform very well in different all various lighting conditions, including the built-in night vision. • Installation: This is officially my 4th video doorbell and the easiest installation thus far. I loved the quick and easy installation of this Swann Buddy that can be installed wirelessly or wired, making it versatile and user-friendly to install in any location. The battery is rechargeable via USB-C and only needs charging once or twice a year. In my case I was lucky enough to be installing in place of a previously wired unit so this doorbell can be hardwired to the existing circuit and eliminate the need for charging. This is a great feature if available but either powering option works great – for instance I enjoyed this doorbell so much that I bought one for my brother who installed it using the battery option and works great. He installed it over a wired location, but the previous doorbell power transformer went out. • Storage: It comes with a 32GB microSD card for local storage which just cycles through and deletes the old as the new comes in. The app service also offers one day of free cloud storage but can be upgraded to offer extended storage time which can be extended to 60 days with an inexpensive subscription service. • Smart Features: Like all video doorbells this includes standard motion detection but with highly customizable sensitivity and zones to help further reduce false alarms as compared to my lower resolution models. • Alerts and Notifications: This Swann Buddy sends push notifications to my phone when motion is detected or when the doorbell is pressed. Also has two-Way Audio to allow you to speak to visitors directly through the app. However, it should be noted that the time from doorbell press to push notification as well as two-way audio can sometimes have some noticeable lag – and we have 2GB up 2GB down internet with a WiFi6 mesh system, so it’s not and issue with my overall connection speed. The audio quality good, but there is a delay in initiating the two-way talk • App and Integration: The Swann Security app, used to control the doorbell, works smoothly and setup is an absolute breeze. I was installed and up and running in about 15 minutes from opening the box. Pros and Cons • Pros: o High-resolution 4K video. o Simple Flexible installation options. o Local storage with free and/or upgradeable cloud storage option. o Easily customizable motion detection settings. o Very affordable when compared to other 4K doorbells. • Cons: o Noticeable lag in alerts and two-way communication. Conclusion The Swann Buddy 4K UHD Wireless Video Doorbell offers excellent video quality and flexibility without breaking the bank. It has been a great addition to our home and dramatic improvements over our previous 2k model that was getting a few years old.

Built-in storage, great video quality and features
|Posted .This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.The Swann Buddy 4k Wireless Video Doorbell works well, has a great feature set, and includes a chime, like a normal doorbell, to put in your house. Design The Buddy 4k is designed to mount vertically next to your door. It has the camera on top, a sensor at the bottom, and a large square button in the middle with a bell silhouette in it. The Buddy 4K has a battery so it can be completely wireless but also includes connections and wires to have it hard wired into the electrical system of a house. I used it completely wireless. It also has a MicroSD card slot and includes a 32 GB MicroSD card. A doorbell chime to put in your house is also included. Video The video looks very good. It has low, high, and max settings. All work well. Low is noticeably lower than the others. The "max" setting, which must be 4k, does look great. I'm very happy with the motion and image quality. You can pinch to zoom on the image, even the live feed, to see a larger view of something on the screen. You can also change the mode between Indoor or Outdoor as well as either flip or mirror the image if needed. The view is wide horizontally but even more wide vertically. The great thing about this is I have a good view of my entire doormat, almost directly below and to the left of the doorbell. While I don't care about the doormat this means I can have a good view of where packages tend to be left, as well as a recording of them being dropped off. In night mode the black and white video is not bad but the color looks sharper to me and moving cars blur less. The recording and playback of audio on the doorbell isn't amazing but it works. The Chime This small, completely wireless, device comes with two AA batteries and plays what sounds like a "normal" doorbell chime sound. I just have it on a shelf right now. I like that it's easy to move and easy to hide, on top of a bookshelf for instance. You can mount it if you want also. The sound from it isn't the highest quality but it works quickly and reliably and sounds ok for a doorbell. I think the volume is a very good level too, loud enough to be heard without being annoying. Features I love what I call the interactive features of this doorbell. At anytime you can hear audio from the mic in the doorbell, talk back to someone who is there, take a picture, record video, turn on a siren, or send a pre-recorded message like "I cannot come to the door right now." or "You are being recorded. Please leave my house immediately.". These are all done from the live camera view interface. There are also detection zones that you can set and it has night viewing. The night viewing is black and white but the contrast and quality is still good. My favorite feature is that it has a MicroSD slot and comes with a 32 GB card you don't need to pay for an account to have recording features. This works great and allows you to share or otherwise save the video if you want. Battery Life I'm running this off battery only and, while it works great, the battery life seems like it's less than a week. I need to play with settings more. I think by adjusting settings I can make it last much longer, which is fine. I can turn on detection zones for times like when I'm expecting a package to be delivered. It's pretty easy to remove. There is small Philips screw on the bottom that you need to loosen, or you could just let it loose all the time. Summary I was just thinking back over my review and then realized I'm writing about a doorbell. I mean, video quality and doorbell were not things that are historically associated with each other. It's crazy how much things are advanced and a doorbell can actually capture and store 4K video, none the less. I think Swann has put together an excellent package with the Buddy 4K UHD Wireless Video Doorbell! Not only did they include many useful features and built-in storage, but there's also a more/less conventional doorbell chime that comes with it.

E Waste

It keeps going offline constantly everyday. It will come online for a few hours then offline again. Sometimes it stays offline until I re-pair the device. In a month that has happened 6 times. In the garbage it goes.

Highly flexible - but best for a permanent install

Name any feature that one might look for in a doorbell and this thing probably has it. I'm pretty sure it could work in just about any setting and for almost any job - which ironically proved to be both its greatest strength and its greatest weakness. As a security camera, the Buddy 4K is probably one of the best I've come across so far. The images captured are sharp in a variety of light levels. Motion/heat/object detection is remarkably comprehensive, though admittedly I did find it necessary to increase sensitivity from where it's set out of the box. And the fact that it has local storage which doesn't require you to pay a monthly access fee to view any recordings is frankly almost worth the price of admission all on its own. The intercom features are likewise quite good by intercom standards, though admittedly audio quality can leave a little to be desired at times. And it makes a very effective doorbell regardless of if you use the included wireless ringer or wire it into a more traditional chime. It also comes with a host of extras and options for mounting and deterrents, so no matter how unusual your setup may be odds are it'll still be possible to get it installed. This, unfortunately, is a good segue into some of the downsides of the Buddy. Most of which stem from one simple fact: adding in all these features requires a lot of room and power. Smart doorbells are often a little on the bulky side, so I wasn't entirely surprised to see how big the Swann was, but it proved surprisingly tricky to get mounted compared to some of the others I've tried. In my case there were two places I needed a doorbell: the front door where a button was already wired in and the side patio where people and wildlife can often stop by for a visit. The doorbell ended up making the decision for me where it would go simply because it was too wide to mount in the place of the conventional buzzer in the front unless I was willing to cut into some siding, pull new wire, and reseal the original hole. While it's true that no video doorbell can really claim to be compact, there are many that offer more clever mounting solutions to help deal with the added bulk. Once it was mounted though and I had it paired to the smartphone app I discovered the second issue: power. Simply put, producing 4K recordings takes up quite a lot of it. I definitely have some concerns about how long it can realistically go between charging sessions, which normally I wouldn't mind much but in this case getting it on and off the bracket (which requires the doorbell be screwed in) is enough of a hassle that it gives me pause. It's also not helped by the fact that the app experience can be more than a little sluggish, which I suspect is in part due to how much processing power must be required to run everything on the doorbell side. While these problems were somewhat annoying though, ultimately I don't view them as dealbreakers. Getting it wired into the existing transformer, for example, would immediately address my concerns over battery life (and spare me from having to keep feeding AAs into the wireless ringer.) And in the week I've spent with it I've already gotten two firmware updates which did noticeably improve the doorbell's performance, so clearly the developers are still working hard to fix it. Add in the increasingly rare ability to produce local recordings and the Swann Buddy becomes an easy recommendation for someone who's got the time and/or architecture to put it to full use.
