Good Beginner eBike for Trickeration

BMX's new SWFT dirt eBike (Class-2 eBike) is a great starting point for a younger rider or someone wanting to do tricks and stunts (to a degree). The box includes the eBike (I'll refer to as "bike" in the review) that is about 80% assembled, charger, low-grade tools, caps for allen bolts, and paperwork. The bike comes with a manufacturer's 1-year warranty.
Disclaimer: This is my 2nd eBike so I have experience with them for a bit over 2 years. I have been riding bikes in general for over 45 years and also ride motorcycles. Bottom line is, I'm an experienced rider.
BASIC SPECS:
--------------
Frame Size: 20" Alloy with some steel parts
Max Pedaling Speed: 20mph
Max Throttle Speed: 20mph
Max Pedaling Distance with PAS: 35 miles (PAS Level 1, minimum rider weight, ideal road conditions)

Battery: 36V/7.5AH Lithium-ion
Charger: 42V/2.0A

Motor Power: 350W, Brushless rear hub
Tire Size: 20" x 2.35"

Max Throttle Incline: 15-degrees
Display: Backlit LCD
Built-in LED headlights
Bike Weight: ~40 lbs
Rider Weight Limit: 265 lbs
Kickstand: Yes
Recommended rider height: 5'3"+
PROS:
-----------
* Nice clean look overall with the flat black finish
* It's light-weight that even a smaller kid could ride (5'3" minimum height and rider abilities). It's also light enough that it can be ridden easily with the power of the bike turned off or with a dead battery.
* The charging port is built such that the charger can be inserted easily. Some chargers have pins inside and have to be lined up to only fit one way - this port is NOT like that, so it's easy to plug in. The rubber cap keeps dirt out when riding.
* LED headlights come in handy at night and increase visibility. Easy turn on/off process, simply hold down the UP-ARROW for 3 seconds and it will power on and also be indicated on the display. This will also cause more battery drain when in use.
* The bike does not LOOK like a typical eBike as they made the bottom frame bar as thin as possible without giving up battery space.
* The instructions are easy to read, and assembly was not difficult. I did use my own wrenches as the ones they provide are basic for this bike only. Please read the instructions to know how to operate safely. The instructions covered everything. The parts that need to be attached are the handlebars, pedals, seat, pegs, and reflectors in addition to zip-tying the rear brake line under the bottom bar on the frame. My tired needed more air as well.
* The pegs are strong and feel durable for tricks. They can be removed by simply twisting off counter-clockwise.
* The display provides good info such as speed, PAS mode (0-3), battery level, odometer, trip meter, cycling time, headlight status, and error codes if you have issues. You can switch back and forth from KM to Miles.
* Added features that are not on my other eBike are (1) walk assist - the motor moves your bike forward at a slow pace and (2) Cruise control if you are pedaling faster than 5mph. Both are turned on when holding down the DOWN-ARROW, but depend on your speed to determine which one is activated. Hit the brake to cancel.
CONS:
-----------
* A huge blow against this bike is the lack of a front brake. Regular bike riders (and motorcycle riders) use both front/rear brakes at the same time in order to stop quickly when needed. This bike also does not have a foot brake like old school bikes (reversing the pedaling motion). Stopping distance is increased significantly with a rear-only hand brake and is the biggest issue I have with this bike.
* The specs provided above are from BMX and don't represent the "average" rider who will typically be well over 5'3" and not "minimal" weight in "ideal conditions" on PAS-1. Count on getting a bit less than those numbers since those numbers are THE best you could ever get. The average rider will push it instead of being "minimal". It's a DIRT BIKE and is meant to do tricks, jumps, and have a PAS-3 acceleration for such things and many times on dirt. This is not ideal for a 35-mile range.
* The battery can't be removed for taking indoors to charge. To charge the battery, the bike has to be wherever the charger is. So if you live in a 2nd floor apartment, you'll have to bring the bike to your apartment to charge it.
* I'm 5'8" and need the seat to be nearly fully extended to the max in order to ride comfortably. If you are taller than that, you might consider a bigger framed bike for comfort's sake.
* The handlebars, when clamped down, are pretty tight; however, at the center point, I would suggest that BMX create some grooves or something that would create more friction so that the handlebars don't rotate forwards or backwards as easily since there are no shocks on this bike and downward force from a jump/trick could cause injury if the handlebars rotate even when tight. At some point, the allen bolts will actually break if they are continually tightened so added friction at the mounting point would be beneficial.
OTHER OBSERVATIONS:
---------------------------------
* The bike has a very low profile and minimalistic presentation with everything being flat black.
* The bike's throttle is a half-handle on the right side (not a thumb throttle). See picture.
* Personally, the rider should know how to ride a regular bike before trying to ride an eBike. This will give the rider more confidence especially when speeds increase by around 2 times.
* The "power" button on the bottom of the the bike battery area simply gives the ability to turn on the display for the motor to work. If the power button is off, then the display won't power up, thus not allowing the bike's motor to function. So the power button can be pressed in ALL the time if needed, and it will NOT drain the battery if the display is off. The display being ON or OFF determines if the bike's motor will operate.
* At 350W, the motor is not very strong, but this IS a smaller eBike made for Class 2 (20mph max). Don't expect super quick acceleration. It's average, also considering a 36V battery. Some of the more expensive bikes have 48V/52V batteries.
* The bike is shipped in a box that is 52"x9"x25" and is about 54 lbs.
CONCLUSION:
=====================
Overall, a decent product, but the biggest issue I have is the lack of a front brake. In addition to stopping quicker, it also provides another means to stop if the rear brakes fail or break somehow. I also wish the battery could be removed so it could be charged indoors without bringing the whole bike inside. This being a lower-end eBike, I see why the manufacturer went this route. I would be interested in knowing how long the manufacturer will be making batteries that fit this bike going forward. At some point, the battery will be too weak to use for extended time. The good thing is that you could then remove the battery completely and use as a basic dirt bike. The display is quite useful, and the plug area for charging is easy to use. A few tweaks here and there would definitely be beneficial though.

I knew I had to get an E bike after returning from Burning Man and seeing just how useful these were on the playa. Needless to say, I absolutely love this bike!! It’s super lightweight, was easy to put together, and is all-around easy to operate (which is great seeing as this is my first e-bike). Very smooth ride. I can’t wait to take it on long rides where I’m eager to pedal on the way out, but want to cruise on the way back. Highly recommend!!

Gifted this to my friend, and they’re loving it! The bike performs really well in downtown living and working. With a decent range of 35 miles and a top speed of 20 mph. It’s perfect for doing deliveries as much for going to college. He finds it comfortable and fun to ride, though they mention it’s not the best for long trips. Overall, it’s a great gift for urban residents.

Bike is decent, not great quality, buy it when it goes on sale. Doesn't look like an ebike and isnt crazy heavy. Smaller 350w motor, but pedal assist and throttle work fine for my 14 year old. Nice cheaper alternative if your kid wants a cool ebike and you dont want them on a crazy class 3 electric motorcycle.

Great bike! It’s efficient, fast, and delivers exactly as promised. Reaches 20 mph with pedal assist and throttle , 15 miles on throttle, and up to 35 miles with pedal assist on modes 1-2. Highly reliable for its performance.

Got it on a good sale so for a bike with this price range was perfect for my husband , battery doesn’t take too long to get a full charge which is nice. Has a nice head light , main issue safety wise is the back has no light just a reflective plate . Was a cheap easy add on so not too much of a hassle. Over all was a good experience, we opted to have geek squad set it up for an added fee but seemed easy enough could have been done without assistance.

I now have 28miles on my swift bmx ebike. Great Rage 35miles on charge pedaling without using pedal assistance charges the battery. 20mph top speed you can swap out the head pice to put on a Gyro for bar spins. For tricks with big air you will need to get better Forks put on. The disk brakes on it work very well. Ive tested it with mechanical brakes those work very well to. With red or Clear pads. Over all very good BMX E-Bike can be fully converted into a Standard pro BMX has the hookups.

What a great eBike!
What an amazing experience my 9 year old son is having on this bike! He loves that it's a BMX bike similar to the ones that his friends have and also has an edge because its electric. This is a definite recommendation.
It's fast, it's sleek and there's nothing not to like. It was easy to assemble and the battery lasts a long while and he loves to ride it like like a traditional BMX as well.

I didn’t want a big tired E-bike they are so big and heavy this BMX style is different. This Bike is a a lot of fun we actually have 2 in the house one for my 7 year old daughter. I put the seat all the way down and tilted the handlebars a little and she fits perfect. And one for me 6 ft 220 and it still moves.

Very solid bike for the sale price. Rides smooth and has plenty of power IMO. Managed to get it up to 25mph on flat surface. Definitely need a more comfortable seat though for longer rides

A great, reliable bike. It was easy to put together. I weigh 145 lbs at 5’7. Its a nice size. It got to my local store fairly quick. The only downside to this bike, is just the seat. I recommend if you purchase this bike, be prepared to buy a comfortable seat or seat cushions. I had to add a seat cushion to mine because my bottom hurt for 4 days after just 1 hour of riding. It felt very uncomfortable after 30 minutes, and the following days had me feeling like my bottom was bruised. Other than that, its an amazing bike that suits my style, it reaches 20mph on flat or downhill just off the electric alone. Going uphill I hit around 18mph. Battery lasts a while. I have had this bike for about 2 months now and its still great to ride, battery is still strong, i have had no issues with it so far and I use it daily to commute to and from work. Its a 8 mile ride one way, so 16 miles total to and from work. It rides like a boss.

Pretty good beginner e-bike used it for my work commute 3.5 miles each way about 7miles round trip with that being said if you’re planning on using it as a commuter bike the first thing you might wanna upgrade is the seat especially if you have a longer commute. Using just throttle killed the battery within 2days so I’d have to charge it pretty often even using peddle assist level 2 point being the battery isn’t very big so unless you’re going to just peddle with no assist or level 1 you will have to charge it often. Obviously it’s a bmx style so you have no suspension so a comfortable seat upgrade is a must. Overall good bike just wish it came with a bigger battery. Also the electric motor is 350W so not super powerful but gets the job done well.

It's a great bike however came damaged twice. The first time the headlight was broken so returned it to Best Buy. The second time the wires were clipped. It was a gift for my son's 13th bday so didn't want to wait for another to arrive. I contacted SWFT customer service although friendly they are a little slow to reply. So why 5 stars? It's still a great bike and the delivery issues really aren't the manufacturers fault so can't punish them for it. My son is currently riding it as a regular bike hopefully he gets to experience the ebike part of it soon.

Buy this when it goes on sale! Got it for five hundred before taxes. Budget frienldy option that has been my go to bike for getting around or running errands. Throttle is good enough to get you up a bridge without pedaling. 40 miles range but it loses a lot of torque once battery goes below 50%. I leave pedal assist at 0 and usually pedal a little and hit throttle when i going up hill or need a little extra speed.

DEATH TRAP!

This reviewer received promo considerations or sweepstakes entry for writing a review.
!!DO NOT BUY!!
This bike lasted less than 24 hours! First the front tire came untrue, had to tighten the spokes so it didn't wobble. It was a birthday gift for my son, I didn't want to spend a lot of money on his first e-bike and eded up picking this one because of the style and price. I wish I didn't. In less than 24 hours, the rear tire blew! Completely took tire off rim. The tire itself was shredded and bald! The quality is absolutely junk! Do not buy, it is a death trap. I can't believe a new tire can completely fall apart like that. These bikes need to pulled off of the shelves. Can you imagine spending this much on a bike and have the wheel come untrue, tire blown and tire bald in just 6 hours of riding it. Save yourself the money and most importantly, save your kid from serious injury and DO NOT BUY!
