I had the predecessor to this bag and was grateful it lasted as long as it did, My biggest problem with the old bag was that the plastic that is wrapped around the handle got brittle, cracked and broke off. This bag has the same wrapping around the handle, but the material seems to be of a better quality. We'll see how long it lasts. The shoulder straps on this new bag are about half the length of it's predecessor. I like to carry my bag on one shoulder and this bag forces me to hold it up by the pull cord. Personally, I think it "looks better" carrying it over the shoulder rather than like I'm going camping or something with it strapped to my back. The old bag had longer shoulder straps and was more comfortable to hold by the cushion of the shoulder pad. This new bag seems larger and has an extra large pocket that I take advantage of. I'm glad I purchased it despite the slight discomfort of holding the pull cord. I hope it lasts half as long as it's predecessor. Maybe one day I'll even have a 17" laptop I can put into it!

I purchased this bag and the Asus G73JH at the same time this week. With everyone writing how much room it had I assumed the G73 would fit inside the laptop sleeve compartment. It does not. I can get the G73 in the bag but not where it belongs which is disappointing. The G73 is too wide for the laptop sleeve compartment. The bag's made very well and it's quite light for its size. There are more pockets inside and out than one could ever use. Lots of luck trying to remember where you put a particular item if you use all the pockets. I've counted at least 9 zippered pockets and 11 other non-zippered pockets. The backside of the bag has padding for your back. Surprisingly, and as advertised, the bag sits upright when empty so it does have a nice base. I paid $99 for this bag which is about $30-40 too high. If I didn't have a BB giftcard I would've gotten a Slappa Matrix which is a much better bag that will fit the G73 for the same price. I still may give this to my daughter and get the Slappa.

I got it for my Asus G72 Notebook

ok I been searching for a long time for a notebook bag that will carry my G72 ( Asus ) notebook, it has the 17.3 screen. It has been a adventure trying to find one that fits it. I seen this backpack online and I seen someone else buy it for there G72 as well. So I went out and bought it. After a pain in the rump trying to pick up my online order, I got the bag home. The laptop will fit in, but the corners will barly zip over the laptop. I have to have the screen part of the laptop toward the back to get it to fit. This bag is the closes bag i could find tto fit this massive laptop. I love the bag, it has like 8 zipped compartments. Which sometime i think its to many..lol But if your like me, I carry everything in my bag. I have my external hard drive in one compartment, then my Razor headphones, power cable, hdmi cable, 6 games, wireless mouse, keyboard, books for school...etc My point is you can carry alot of stuff in this bag. It feels nice on you even when you pack it to the gills. If you have a G72 or a 17.3" laptop, I would get this bag.

My old Swissgear backpack finally started to show it's age after 8-10 years so I went back in the market to see how things have changed since then. I tried the rectangle packs, the TSA packs, and the storage packs in addition to the standard backpacks and this one turned out to still be the best one I could get my hands on. I have a 17" MSI so it's pretty bulky and that limits what packs I can use, but this one handles it easily and I even have room to put a Surface in the tablet pocket. All of that in the first zipper along with a netted storage area. The power packs fit in the second zipper and I still have plenty of room for other accessories which leaves me 2 more zippered areas to put storage/cables/earbuds/etc and not stuff the thing full. However, with all of that in there, it's not overly bulky or heavy. Very light weight and durable. I just couldn't find anything to beat it.

Great backpack for 17" widescreen laptop

Purchased this backpack to carry a HP 8730w 17" laptop. I already owned a Swiss Gear backpack that I purchased to carry a digitial SLR and a smaller laptop at the same time. Durability of that backpack was impressive, and I liked the number of compartments available to organize cords, batteries, gear, etc. Based on my experience with that pack, I zeroed in on the IBEX for my larger laptop. Compartment layout is similar to my old one, and is large enough to carry my laptop with 2nd battery attached and my SLR. The only thing I would change in the design is extending the zippers on the main compartment to the bottom of the pack- this would allow opening that compartment wide opn if needed. Seems to be on sale for around $80 online fairly often- that is what I paid for it, although with the durability and size I'd have paid full price if I had to.

SwissGear seems to make a lot of good gear in my past experience. This backpack is awesome, and Best Buy even price matched it for me which saved me more money and that was excellent. It's got like, 4 main compartments, each one smaller than the other. The material on the inside is soft and in the largest part, it has a slot for where you can put your laptop in separately from everything else which is great. The other main compartments have their own slots and extra sleeves for you put stuff in all over. Then there's just a ton of other pockets and sleeves all over the backpack which is awesome, such as the small pocket at the top of the laptop where I can store stuff I want easy access to like my phone and whatnot. Then there's 2 handles up top, one that you usually see on most backpacks and then another a bit closer to the front of the backpack that has a hard wiring through it of sorts that makes it really sturdy and easy to grip onto.

As a military aviator I need a bag that is very durable, rugged, roomy, and keeps my laptop well protected. After trying several bags I have been extremely satisfied with this Swiss Gear bag. I have a large Sony Vaio laptop that fits comfortably in the laptop compartment and is well protected with a padded area and secured with a strong velcro strap. The bag has a reinforced carry handle as well as wide comfortable shoulder straps. It's easy to keep items organized with several zippered compartments and has two external bottle holder pockets. I only have a couple of minor dislikes for the bag. There are small zippered side pockets on each side above the bottle holder pockets. If you have anything in these pockets, which are odd sized, it makes it tough to put a bottle in the bottle pocket. Also, a small chest strap would be an excellent addition to the shoulder straps, especially for those times when the bag is packed full. Other than that this is a great bag and I have been very pleased with it.

The SwissGear IBEX laptop bag is a comfortable bag. There are lots of pockets and compartments to store a variety of things. I have found a place for most everything, definitely all my every day carry items. It will hold my 15” MacBook Pro, 12.9” iPad Pro, a lunch bag and 40oz hydro flask. It holds more chargers and cables than I will ever need, but are there for the “just in case” moments we all encounter. Even carrying all of that, the bag is still comfortable to wear. The shoulder straps are wide enough and have comfort stretch at the top to keep comfortable. I commute on light rail and often will walk a mile or more to get to a station or stop. The back is comfortable to wear during those times. There is plenty of backpadding that fits in the small of my back to add to the comfort.

After trying to find a bag that would fit my new 17" HP I had trouble finding one that was tall enough, but not so big that the laptop got lost in it. This was perfect. I thought I wanted to step up to a "nicer" bag but they all were unpractical as I travel so much I need pockets to store the little things for security lines and such. Laptop fits well. slides in & out easily. LOVE the shallow nylon lined pocket at the top for things like phone and wallet while going through the security line. Could not ask for more storage in a bag that doesn't break your back. Lots of zip up pockets inside each compartment to separate important items from the bulk stuff. Great pocket for paperwork so it doesn't get wrinkled in transport. And we all know the durability is above reproach. I have had the 15" version for 5 years and it still looks new after 750+ flights. I think this one may be even tougher.

    Overall Great Laptop Backpack

Overall, this is another great backpack in the Wenger/Swiss Army branded line. Lots of room for a number of items, fits my 15.6" laptop perfectly and securely even without the included Velcro security strap. Multiple slots for papers/file folders, etc. If there is anything "negative" to say about this backpack, it's the "lean". Though it advertises a "case-base" flat-bottom support, this will work very well at keeping the backpack in a vertical position on a table, chair, or floor; but if you "over-stuff" the backpack (like I sometimes am forced to do!), the backpack will still sometimes lean forward. But with all the other amenities this backpack has to offer in space, compactness (much "thinner" to carry than my old Swiss-Army backpack), the occasional lean is not a deal-breaker by any means. Overall, very satisfied with this purchase!

after researching a laptop backpack that would hold my 17.3" laptop and hold a work laptop I found this bag. I have had one from this company before and had great luck. the overall ease of inserting the laptop and being able to store the associated things that go with the computers is great. The quality of the construction is very nice and feels solid to use. The blue part you see in the picture is more subdued than what Iit appears to be, which is fine with me since I am using it for work most of the time. Take your time to look the bag over as there are several zippered compartments that you will not see on first inspection but are great for storing things where you can easily find them instead of having to dig through all these items in an open storage area. I believe this backpack will be great for what I need and I enjoying it so far.

FX 6860 Will not fix right

    Posted
    drvudoo

I bought this reading the review that a Gateway FX6870 user said it fit great. If you place the notebook in the Laptop Sleeve it will not fit correctly. Due to the extended battery of the FX it pushed the edge of the notebook past the point where the zipper will zip up correctly. If you took out the battery it fits fine. My old OGIO Metro and Logitech Kintex could hold 2 the FX and my work Sony BX without these issues. It looked big in the store but after you put everything in it's not that much space left. There is not outward expandability. Another annoying this that all bag mfg do is not tell you what the pockets they made are intended for. I had to look inside the second compartment to figure out how to run the headphone wiring. The outlet for the headphone is not part of the portable audio player niche. I hope someone out there makes a good sturdy bag for real 17" and not anemic 17"powerbooks. I'll have to see if the OGIO Politan will work.

I use this bag for work...it spends 99% of its days with about 30-40 lbs of gear inside it (laptop, tools, parts, etc). It sees some pretty rough conditions, everything from construction sites to mechanical rooms. I am very hard on equipment and therefore look to buy products that will endure. This pack is going into its 3rd year on the job. Despite being dropped off of ladders, kicked, dragged and otherwise just generally abused...not one thing on it has broken. The zippers and handles are all intact and operate like day 1. The fabric is roughed up but still looks good with zero tears anywhere. The straps have a few stiches coming loose but that is simply cosmetic and i'm just trying to come up with a flaw. Bottom line: $100 is big bucks for a backpack, but I guarantee it will outlast your next two laptops...and then some.

    Best capacity/durability for laptop/textbook

My son's private HSchool recently converted to laptop only teacher/student use. They also still use textbooks for info/assignments. We needed a backpack that would protect laptop with daily classroom use as well as hold large textbooks he may need to bring home. This had it all. Great inner sleeve for laptop with addl textbook space and 2 addl compartments for textbooks/folders (He uses smaller one for lunchbox) Addl top compartments store phone, powercords/charger, calculater and iPod. Very sturdy wide bottom, but still lightweight. Checked out many other pricy brands (Oakley etc) as well as popular (Janzen). This was hands down the best. Reasonly priced but also got it on sale ($30 less) shortly after purchased and recd price adjustment. Recommend 100%! Should be great for college too, although space for textbooks prob won't be needed as much.

This backpack works great. Holds tons of stuff and has a lot of pockets. My laptop fits well even in a sleeve. I am a little obsessive and considering I just bought a new laptop I didn’t want anything to happen to it. So I purchased a sleeve to keep it in. I am able to put the laptop in the sleeve and still fit it in the laptop sleeve in the backpack. Works great I gave it four instead of five stars because the backpack is supposed to stand up straight it is a feature that is built in. However it has a tendency to fall forward all the time. No big deal i would give it a 4.5 if it was an option. I would definitely recommend. It’s not my first Swiss gear and I’ve always had good luck with them. Quality product.

    Great Laptop Bag

When I first got my laptop, I knew I would be needed a case to take it to and from school, and also carry books/other stuff. My first choice was Ogio's Epic backpack, which failed to hold my Epic laptop (Gateway FX, also sold at best buy). Since that plan failed, I found this Swiss bag (I always liked SwissGear) and decided to try it out. Not only did this bag swallow my laptop (though it did stretch a little the first time), it takes on 2 textbooks and a notebook, my charger, 4 novels, and an iPod with relative easy. The comfort, especially with all this weight, is another great quality of this backpack. It feels sturdy, always, and the straps never cut into your shoulders like some cheaper bags. In short, this bag can hold any 17 in. laptop that I can name, and then some. It also manages to be comfy and stylish at the same time, a feat that not all can do. Take my advice, get this bag if you have the cash.

had the Maxumm backpack from swiss prior for a few years and work great!! saw the ibex on sale and had to get it. Great size! fits the laptop, textbooks, binder, cords and bottled water NO PROBLEM! more little pockets and compartments than i know what to use them for!! BEST PART stand up right on it's own!! ALL my previous backpacks one placed on the ground would slouch and slide flat... this would get in the middle of the row, get dirty, people would have to high step over... just a pain... but the first time i set it down it just plopped upright without an issue and was easy to access during lecture! it has more than enough padding and was well worth the 62 with tax that i paid (considering i use it everyday to carry over $1,000 worth of computer and books etc.) considering the 3-4 year lifespan of my previous swiss i couldnt' pass up the opportunity to get this backpack... it's like...$20/year!! not shabby

This bag is loaded with features and pockets..and pockets inside of pockets for storage and organizing everything you need to carry. The bag seems to be durable and the zippers are of a very nice quality with a very smooth action. The shoulder straps are comfortable and the oversized handle is nice for carrying the bag. I really like that there are 4 sections to this bag so you can separate your laptop from a tablet and from cables and chargers. I use this daily as my bag to carry everything I need to and from work and so far it is working out great. Highly recommended if you want the most features and several pockets to store everything. Even inside of each section there are other pockets with zippers or sleeves to help keep everything in its place. The bag also stands on end very easily and is pretty stable, which is a great feature as it isn't flopping all over the floor.

All in all, I really like the bag. Lots of storage and is just seems to keep expanding for more. I love using the smaller side pockets for my thumb drives and SD cards. Much easier than trying to dig through the bag. The organization of the bag just works well for what I put in it... even my lunch. The hardest part was getting used to carrying it (coming from a shoulder bag). I have to say, day to day commute, the shoulder bag is probably a tad bit easier IMO. However, for all around use (so you don't have to change bags when you travel), this definitely ideal. One important note; It says most 17" laptops fit... but you should definitely check to see how well it fits before buying the bag. Otherwise this is a tough, well built, good looking bag. Worth the price compared to the others.

I had to replace my backpack of 15 years, a HighSierra model, and this has so far been a great replacement. I have already traveled with it several times, and it has held up well. The feature that helps it sit up straight when you set it down works as advertised. The zippers work easily and the big pockets store your gear and have good organizational features inside of them. The protection for your laptop is solid, and the additional tablet holder is, as well. My only compliant - It is a little tough to fit a water bottle in the side pockets. It fits, but is snug...maybe that will get easier over time.
