I have Youtube TV and they had a fight with Disney/ABC. My wife still loves General Hospital on ABC so I purchased this Tablo to fill in till they came to some agreement. I can stream to any compatible device as long as I'm in the house. does not stream over internet. Wifi only. Outstanding quality picture!

The app often cannot find the Tablo device. Then the Tablo unit has to be deleted and added again. I had it in the garage for a while, but it kept overheating and crashing. I moved it in the house and that helped a little, but not much. The app continually searches for the device and updating the guide, then repeats, repeats and repeats this in an endless loop. This is pure junk.

Easy to setup. Very handy DVR with Tablo Guide for your over the air channels and Tablo streaming channels. Customer service is very responsive and helpful. You can watch any channel within your residence via your WiFi on your HDTV with Amazon FireTV or Android phone with the Tablo App, even different channels at the same time.

I have a rooftop antenna and all our local TV towers are only 3 miles away. The local signals all come from one direction and my antenna is a yagi directional which is pointed directly at the towers. I can literally see the TV towers from the antenna location. After the tablo channel scan, all of our local channels register with 4 green dots showing they are all getting the best reception. Nonetheless, many OTA drop-outs including "recording error(s)," pixelation, and total failure on multiple occasions and channels.
Furthermore, the additional free streaming channels had many recording errors as well. Of course, Tablo support will blame your antenna or ethernet, yet we don't have any problems when antenna is connected directly to TV and our internet is a fast 500MB+ service without any problems on any other devices. If it worked, I would have loved it, instead its was a chronic exercise in extreme frustration. DO NOT BUY!!

I have been very happy with this cord cutting TV DVR. I had the 3rd gen model too, but overall I like this one better. I can record all of the programs I get over-the-air, the signal seems good and it integrates very well with my Chrome Google TV device. Save a ton of money using over-the-air. We have a few service in addition, but this hits the spot just right.

You can't go wrong with this. I installed an outdoor antenna and it only took a few minutes to install. I now have over 90 channels available and a lifetime free onscreen tv guide and can record 3 shows at a time. It doesn't get better than this.

I needed something to replace my dying Fire Recast, but didn't want to pay outrageous sums of money. It also had to be easy to use for the older members of my household. There was a bit of a learning curve coming from the Fire Recast, but we seem to have mastered the app.
The Tablo was fairly easy to set up for use with my Firesticks. I also have it set up for use with my Roku, but we use the Firesticks more. I was pleasantly surprised by the Tablo app's home screen and that I can record the FAST channels included by Tablo. The guide works well. My main beef is probably more with Amazon than Nuvyyo because the Fire tv live guide doesn't pull in the guide data from Tablo. The Tablo guide data is easy enough to find and navigate, though.
I marked this 5 stars for value because I use it every day, both just for watching and recording to watch later. I know that some people will knock off a star or 2 because it isn't ATSC 3.0 compatible. However, that's not as important to me. Stations will continue to broadcast at the current standard for several more years, so I'm sure I'll get my money's worth. YMMV.
Overall, it's been a good experience for me.

DVR of Last Resort

I dearly wish that BestBuy sold a more reliable DVR. This quad tuner is the flakiest appliance that I have ever bought in my life. You have to constantly deal with its myriad glitches, gotchas, failures, ad infinitum. My wife is tired of me cussing up a storm each time I've reached my limit of frustration.
I'm generously giving it 2 stars, because if you can jump all the hurdles, and if you're lucky, it actually can work as advertised.
I'd be delighted to pay double the price for a DVR that actually worked 100% of the time without any agony at all.
Note to BestBuy: Please find another, more reliable DVR supplier. I also have the Aluratek DVR, but it's just a single tuner. Works 100% of the time. If they had a 4-tuner DVR, I'd buy it in a heartbeat.

Waiting for Tablo to get on with an Apple TV app

Giving this 4 stars simply because there is no Apple TV app for this Tablo yet. The Tablo works very well as a DVR, both recording and playback of live TV. Quicker to transition than the old Tablo's, and great screen resolution. Very happy with it.
Now the downside. Finding a streaming box that works well with this wasn't easy for me. I'm an Apple TV guy, so being off on Roku's, Chromecasts, and Fire TV's hasn't been painless for me. What's worked the best for me is the Chromecast with Google TV 4K. Next, I'd say the Fire Stick 4K MAX, and last, the Roku. Can't stand the Roku UI, so I'm not going there. The Chromecast 4K is pretty close to faultless, but the Chromecast HD didn't make the cut...seems underpowered for the Tablo. I don't like the Fire Stick 4K MAX UI much either, too much surface area in the UI and too many ads.
Anyways, if you're not an Apple TV user that can't give it up :-), I'd recommend the Tablo wholeheartedly. Great piece of hardware, waiting for some of the software pieces to fall into place.
I'll wait a certain amount of time for the Apple TV app, but after a point I'm going be giving up on it and going back to Youtube TV where I can use the Apple TV. I would go to the HDhomerun, except that I don't want to deal with Plex or the Channels app, both of which cost $'s.

Its been a short time using the gen 4 which has been better than the original jnit i have. It wasnt playing back recodings now today it was working. Just make sure you buy some additional coax to directly attach your antenna to tv also. I dont like that it no longer works with Samsung or LG.

Easy installation. Great support staff. Tablo App is not available for all smart TVs. I f you have Roku, Fire Stick, or Android TV you are all set. If you have a Samsung Smart TV, the app is still in development. Since one of my TVs is Samsung that is the reason for 4 Stars rather than 5.

Out of Sync problems

Previous Legacy quad owner. This unit is faster, guide is better. Layout is a little difficult to get used to especially for recordings. When it works, it works pretty darn good. But it doesn't keep working. When recording or watching ABC the Voice and Video are totally out of sync. This can be fixed very temporarily by rebooting. For me this is broadcast on 10.1, the other channels broadcast from same transmitter ie: 10.2, 10.3 etc work just fine. This signals to me that there is a Firmware programming error that others have reported. When playing back from a recording, not only will it be out of sync, but the screen will freeze after a few minutes, making it totally useless. Unit also gets very warm to the touch. Price is too high for the usable functionality. (These reception issues do not present themselves on any other device)

Hi John,
Sorry you're having a tough time with audio/visual sync on your Tablo. In general, this is caused by errors in the broadcast stream from your antenna.
Improving your overall antenna position or switching to a slightly more powerful antenna is the best way to avoid these issues.

Love this DVR. Just download the Tablo app to your Roku or fire tv and connect your antenna to the Tablo and you can stream, record, pause and play live tv. The only downside is that when watching live tv through Tablo the actors mouth movements when talking don’t match up with the dialogue (sound). I solved buffering issue that you may have read about by streaming directly to my fire stick and not to my smart tv. Overall I recommend this Dvr.
