For the price, really happy with this lens. Tho it’s big, it’s an 18 to 400...surprisingly decent at both the low and high. Overall 5 stars to tameron on this one

While I thought this would end up being my favorite travel lens, it honestly isn't that great. At 400mm all my shots had a slight fuzzy border around the subject. While the price was affordable, I felt like I would be better returning it and paying the restock fee of 15% . I thought of it as paying a rental fee for trying it, but it was not worth my time or the full price.

DOES NOT work with Canon 5D mark II
The lens specifications clearly states this works with the mentioned camera. However, this lens is more for EF-S cameras, not EF cameras. As you can see in my images, thre is a barrel ring that happens. I think this is due to the 5D mark II being a full frame camera.
If you have a EF-S, this is probably a good lens but for full frame/EF mount cameras, look elsewhere.

I am definitely NOT a professional photographer and I do this more as a hobby than anything else, but I have learned some things along the way. I shoot landscape and wildlife only, and I was looking for a lens that had great wide shots, but also a lengthy zoom so I didn’t have to switch lenses all the time. My original zoom was a 75-300, so it wasn’t the best for landscape shots and my original kit lens was a 15-45. I’m using the Canon M50 (mirrorless) with adapter to use the canon EF and EF-S lenses. So I decided to give this lens a go!
Firstly, the lens feels solid and sturdy on the camera. It also looks good too! There is no tripod mount on the lens itself (also does not come with a collar), but for me it’s ok because I have one on my adapter. The lens is definitely large and has some weight to it. I’m ok with this, but it does take a little getting used to. The barrel does telescope out as you zoom and has a pretty far extension. I recommend using the vibration control, especially when zooming to 400mm. The barrel is stiff at first when zooming, but this will loosen up as you use it. There is also a lock that will keep the lens in place when applied at 18mm. It will not work at any other focal length.
The biggest downside to this lens is that it definitely needs light. Low light is not recommended for this lens. However, when you do have light (controlled set/studio or bright sunny day) the pictures come out beautifully! Crisp, clean detail!
I personally love this lens and it has done well for me over the past month or so that I’ve had it. With every new piece of equipment, there’s always a learning curve, and I feel I’m finally dialing this one in! If you are in need of an all-in-one lens this is a great deal! If your focus is landscape and/or wildlife photography, this would work well for you. I did have to wait almost a week for it to be shipped out...but it was worth it for me.

I used to hate switching from my 18-55mm to my 75-300mm lens. Never have to do that again with this 18-400mm lens. I got this one just before the Solar Eclipse, and it was basically my telescope for shooting a time-lapse of the eclipse. I love it. My other lenses will gathering dust now.

I got this lens to use on my Canon M5 camera on vacations so that i would not have the weight of multiple lenses. I just got back from a British Isles cruise and I have to admit that the lens worked nicely. I used it in sunny, overcast and darker situations, inside and outside, and it worked very well for me. The only issue(s) that I had was that the autofocus was a little slow at times, but not enough to be a bother. I used the lens in both manual and auto modes without any problems. I tried taking some photos of seagulls outside of my veranda and it worked pretty well. I am not a bird photographer so my technique was lacking the experience that would have made taking the photos easier, but I did manage to get a few good shots. I did take a couple of backup lenses in case this one didn't work as expected, but I never took either out of the case. The Tamron worked very well. Overall, I feel that this fits my situation very well. It works just the way that I wanted and the 18-400mm range makes it possible to leave all of my other lenses home so that I won't have the additional weight to lug around on vacations.

Best Single Lens to Travel With

I have been working on reducing the amount of equipment I carry for travel. I use Canon and have for years. I own their 18-200 and it works well. I have experimented with the Tamron 18-300 and it worked well but has focusing issues in low light. When this lens came out all of the sample images Tamron posted were shot with the Canon 80D. I purchased one immediately from Best Buy and it is fantastic. I used it to photograph the recent Solar Eclipse and it worked perfectly. So far it has performed perfectly in all lighting conditions and I am extremely pleased with it. I would definitely recommend it to anyone.

I do a lot of traveling and can’t travel with a lot of different lenses. This lens is compact and takes the place of many of my other lenses. I do a lot of bird photography and with this lens I can zoom in close. I love it. The pictures are crisp and detailed. I strongly recommend this lens for those who want an all purpose lens that works for macro to telephoto.

Great Versatile Lens

I do love Tamron Lenses. This is a clear shooting versatile lens that is great to put on and leave on in most situations. I have really had great results with it! I have also used with Macro extension tubes, also with amazing results. Only two setbacks, has a hard time finding focus with use of the extension tubes (normal, but a bit worse than with my Canon lenses.) and the zoom tension is inconsistent, it is hard to turn in some places and easier in others throughout the zoom scale. Minor problems and the later will loosen up over time, I am sure. Overall well worth the purchase!

I bought this lense for an all around shooting lens while hiking and just carrying my DSLR. It does take pretty good pictures for a lens in this price range. I love the fact you have 18mm-400mm range. Dont hesitate to buy this lens, it takes really nice pictures...

This lens replaced all my Canon lenses that I had before. With this lens, i don't need to replace the lens for long distance or short distance. Picture quality is great and very sharp. weigh is little heavy, but not too bad. This lens is 72mm diameter, but you don't need adaptor for mounting and it perfectly fits 58mm body.

I was hesitant purchasing a non Canon lease for my camera, but glad I did. While Canon has wonderful products, this lense fills a void that I had in my arsenal. I now use it for literally everything. I can shoot close range and still has a great zoom to capture my little soccer player or dancer on stage. No regres here!

This is a great all purpose lens for events and travel. Works for up close portrait as well as wildlife at a distance. Coupled with an adapter, it also worked with the new mirrorless bodies.
