I had purchased the Sony 18-105mm lens and had to return it because it would not focus. I found out about the unusable footage when I was doing post processing on my computer. All my videos were unusable. I was able to return it and paid a little extra for this lens. I felt skeptical at first, but boy was I in for a pleasant surprise! This lens performed so well, I was amazed of how my photos came out! I was worried the zoom ring would not perform like the Sony's zoom button. It exceeded my expectations at every level. I saw people with more expensive gear and I could put my pictures toe to toe with any of them! I am using a Sony a6400 paired with this lens. The weight balances fine if you are going to be using it handheld. It does not have stabilization but I found out I did not need it. Stabilization was a big factor in choosing a lens but you will be fine without it. This has become my favorite lens, so much so that I want to sell my Sony lenses to buy more Tamron!

Perfect lens for me with an A6500

On my Sony A6500, this lens is at least as sharp wide open at f/2.8 as my Sigma 30mm f/1.4 is at f/2.8 which is already insanely sharp and it absolutely destroys my Sony 18-105mm zoom lens. It's basically sharp in the center at any focal length and aperture. I love that it's weather-sealed, the focusing is fast and at 28mm, it can focus on objects about 2 inches away from the front lens element. I can now easily move up to a Sony full-frame camera whenever I decide to. It doesn't have image stabilization and can be a bit difficult to zoom during video and keep things steady, but overall, it's my new favorite lens due to its ridiculously sharp image, smooth bokeh, constant f/2.8 aperture and useful zoom range (even on my APS-C A6500). This one will rarely ever leave my camera from now on.

This lens is spectacular, probably the only lens you need for most photography assignments. Completed my first wedding with it and it delivered in every regard, speedy AF and the IQ that rivals sony’s GM line, all for $800. A minor con, a bit of flare with the sun directlly into the lens, not sure if the UV filter made things worse but there’s that.

Amazing lens for the price. It is compact built decently well and imho trades blows with much more expensive lens in image quality.

I just got this today and already took a million photos - it is amazing! I just transitioned from Canon to the Sony A7iii - and so researched and purchased this one as a replacement. (As my favorite Canon lens was the 24-70 2.8 USM L) This rocks! I'm so happy! Here's a photo of my dog I took today so you can see how sharp at 2.8 - this has been converted from RAW to JPEG so may have lost some quality but its right on!:) LOVE! Thank you!

I love my Sony 85mm f1.8 and my Sony 20mm f1.8 prime lenses, but I must say the Tamron 28-75mm f2.8 is my true work horse. This lense has incredible sharpness and amazing color rendition straight out the camera. It has dramatically reduced my post production time down to a few tweaks. This should be any Sony photographer’s first lense. Buy it!

For a starter lens it’s perfect. Amazing in low light. That F 2.8 is amazing for low light situations. Pair this with the A7iii or V and it’s a powerful tool. I recommend this with the new Tamron 17-28.

For the price, it can’t be beat. This is a great all purpose lens for most everyday photography. Wide enough for landscapes, zoom in for portraits. Constant f/2.8 aperture is great for low light. Wish it had a manual/AF switch but otherwise is great. Build quality is fine for the price. For most people this will be all the lens you need, if you’re a pro, get the Sony GM. Lens is super sharp at all aperatures, autofocus is quick. Highly recommend.

Definitely worth the price. I’ve used this lens for films run and gun events and more. Definitely recommend getting the warranty for it if this is your first lens.

love this lens. Easy to use, gives nice bokeh, is lightweight, and half the price of Sony glass lens for Sony E-mount bodies. Good for portraits, action shots and more. Test it out in the store if they have or it or buy online. If you don't like it, just return it to a store near you. Don't wait too long tho, and get that accidental protection plan. Don't be a fool - No sense spend all this money and not insure your equipment.

Im loving this lens! Its compared to the G-master but so much better in price. 28mm is wide enough for landscaping and 50-75mm for Portraits. Its built pretty well too. I did alot of research on which all-in-one lens I can travel with and I finalized this one and I cant Complain. For sample images please visit my IG page: @mon5tagraphy

95% as good as the 24-70 f/2.8 G Master at less than half the price, while also smaller, lighter, and better balanced on the Sony full frame mirrorless cameras. I’m more of a prime lens than a zoom lens shooter, but I love this lens. Compared to the Sony Zeiss 24-70 f/4, this one is well worth the few extra bucks.

I bought this lens as a cheaper alternative to the Sony gmaster lens with almost the same zoom range, and honestly you probably wouldn’t even be able to tell the difference by much! This tamron can definitely keep up, and puts out AMAZING quality. It also weights significantly less which makes it even easier to carry or transport around.

This is a perfect starter lens for the Sony A7iii. I’m loving its crisp capabilities and I don’t feel like the fact that it’s not a native Sony lens makes enough difference to splurge on a GM. Overall, it’s lighter, half the price, and my clients love the results of the photos I have taken so far!

This is my first lens that I have purchased for my A7II to replace the kit lens equivalent that came with the camera that fell into the river trying to photograph Neowise. I wasnt bummed since I planned to upgrade but that came sooner rather than later anyways..... I have been doing research and found this lens to be the one for me. I wanted something light, sharp, and affordable. Ding ding ding! The sony GM version is over 2x the cost for marginal benefits. I didn't need the extra buttons nor IS (since I shot on tripod mainly). Over the kit lens, It provides a cleaner and sharper image. The color rendition is great too! The faster lens (relative to the kit) allows an improved control over depth of field as well as increases usability in low light situations. It is almost twice the size of the kit lens and when I took it out I was pleased with the build quality! I have read many reviews docking points because of the choice to use plastic but modern polymers have come a long long way and this aint no plastic toy. It definitely feels like a quality item regardless if it uses plastic. Modern materials are very strong and light and I am not taking a hammer to this thing anyways so metal for me is overkill. There is quite the improvement on autofocus compared to the kit lens. It is fast and seems to be more accurate (have barely gotten it and only shot a handful of times) than the kit. It snaps fast to your autofocus point and I photograph a lot of wildlife so it is important that it does it quickly. I took a photograph of a hummingbird and it did not struggle as much as the kit lens. The way the focus and zoom rings are located compared to the kit lens threw me for a small loop but I believe this set up is better. I can focus with the ring that is closer to the body which disrupts less compared to it being further away which is good for hand held shooting so you can be more stabilized. I am still getting adjusted to it but I know I will like it a lot more when I get adjusted. I am extremely satisfied with this lens and it has cemented my decision to purchase the 70-180 next from Tamron. If you want to save some money, not big on thrills and frills, and want to upgrade from the kit lens, this lens will surely not disappoint!
