I've only used this on one outing, hand-held, and it seems to be very sharp. I did set it on flat surfaces and leaned against trees when i could, but it performed well. For the price, it's a good deal.
The attached photo was shot at 600mm in RAW, then adjusted and converted to jpg.

This lens has superb range and strength! I was amazed at just how good it is! And for the cost, you cannot beat it! A comparable lens from another manufacturer which cost a great bit more cannot even compare to the range of this lens. Not only does it do great on zooming in, but also with capturing more background when not zoomed in. For the range it has, I have to say it works great and I'm very glad I chose to take the chance on purchasing it. I don't have money to just throw around, so I was cautious in my purchase, and I got much more than I thought it would truly have to offer. It does everything they claim it does. So nice to find out that what they claim it can do on range, it actually does it and even better! The vibration reduction and auto focus features work superbly as well. If you're looking to make a move up in you collection, even as to do so for a great telephoto lens, this is the one that will give you the most pleasure for the dollar. Without a doubt!

The Long Reach

After noticing that many of my photo-friends had a long zoom, and enjoying their results, I thought it was time to join them. After about a month of shooting, I'm glad to have it. The long end at 600mm is great for distant wildlife, or frame filling close-ups of nearby birds. Although tripod use is obviously preferred, you can hand hold it for short periods. The built-in IS really helps in that regard. You may need to crank up the ISO to help. It's a steep learning curve for sure, but I'm enjoying the experience. This Summer's airshow schedule may be my favorite part.
Bonus fact: When used on a crop sensor Nikon body, you get a 225-900 range! I likey!

This lens works very well with my Nikon D 7100 and D3100 cameras. I am very pleased with how quickly and sharply this lens focuses. i had heard that the 600mm end of of this lens could be kind of "soft" in focusing. I don't have any problem with it though. It is a little heavy and a tripod might be a good idea for making several photos. I have found that I can brace it just fine for a few shots without a tripod.

Haven't had long but have use several times.
It's a bit heavy after holding up a few minutes, but worth getting a shot that is far away.

Have had mine about a month. Paired with a Nikon D7100 and D700 it is an mazing lens for the money.
After over a thousand images put through it and a week's vacation Up North it has not disappointed.
Solid construction, nice texture on the focusing and zoom rings. Almost 2 lbs lighter than its Sigma 150-600 competitor so it can be hand held. But you're going to eventually want to look at a good monopod or tripod with quality ball head or gimbal head for extended shoots.
I find it a bit soft at 600mm but nothing that cant be countered in post processing. At 500 it looks very good. However with a shallow depth of field focusing is critical.
The vibration control helps in hand held situations but you're still going to want as fast a shutter speed as the situation will allow.
Does not come with a case or sleeve of any sort so a trip to your local full service camera shop will be in order.
If you think you'd be interested in bird/wildlife photography in my opinion, this lens is a very good entry into that kind of photography. or even if you just like the super compressed look a long lens gives this is a lens worth serious consideration at the $1,000-$1,500 price range.

Good to excellent long lens have two disadvantages, price and weight. The Tamron I just purchased is not the latest model of the 150-600mm. As a result, I got the lens for a great price with the instant rebate from Tamron and the 6% rebate for 30-day terms on my BestBuy Visa card. The weight of the lens can be a bit tiring without a good camera strap if you intend to not be setup on a tripod. The lens sharpness and and auto focus response is equally good on both my D810 and D500. No regrets on my part with the decision to buy.

I love to take pics of nature and wild animals, and this is an awesome upgrade from my 300mm lens that came with nikon D7200. You can close without getting close, it has the auto focus feature, which a lot of “cheaper” lenses don’t have. Comes with the tripod mount that doubles as handhold, if no tripod is used. It’s a bit heavy, but that is to be expected. No regrets buying this lens!

This lens is unbelievable. It is amazing that you can get a 600mm lens in such a small package. At a little over 4lbs I am able to hand hold it all day. The vibration control works great and the lens is very sharp up until about 540mm. Even at 600mm the lens still produces acceptably sharp photos. Paired with my Nikon d500 it's a birders dream setup!

The Tamron 150-600 mm lens had good reviews and it demonstrated its worthiness in use. I have only had it about a month but have gotten a few really good shots. It takes time to learn to focus long distance shots, even on a tripod. Within 200 feet, I get great focus and great clarity even when enlarging the center of the picture about 20 times the original. It is not a National Geographic quality lens, but it didn't cost over $6 grand either. Good lens, unless you can do the $6 grand.
