Not as good as the older versions

I purchased this cover for a new iPad Pro I just bought. I have purchased these VersaVu covers before for 2 other iPads I've had in the past and absolutely loved them. This new version, however is nothing like the old ones and really misses the mark. To begin with, the frame is made of a flexible silicone type material and is relatively flimsy compared to the older version which was made of a hard plastic, making it much sturdier. That hard plastic also allowed for easy rotation from landscape to portrait positioning where the new silicone material is "sticky" , making rotation more difficult.. The ridges that hold the iPad in place when put into an elevated mode aren't as deep so the iPad frequently slips out of place with even the slightest movement. The new iPad Pro has 2 speakers positioned at each end of the unit and apparently the Targus folks either don't know that or were too lazy to put corresponding openings at these points to let the sound out. With Apple products being on the "quiet" side to begin with, this is a real design flaw. Overall, the design and engineering are poor and nothing like the more robust and well thought out older models. I'll probably return it more something better.

Decent, But Not Outstanding, Folio Case

This Targus case was purchased for a 2017 Model iPad. The end user likes to read a lot in portrait mode using a stand, so that limited the choices available dramatically. The preferred case would have been an Otterbox Defender; but they don't really have a model the fits the new 2017 right. The Air 2 case isn't quite right, and the Original Air case buttons for volume/up down don't line up. The Targus case uses a simple elastic strap to secure the case cover closed- I doubt this will age well and expect the strap to fray then break, or snap due to the case's own sharp edges cutting through it. The cover supports the auto on/off function. It is a rather thick case due to the design. The ventilated plastic frame supposedly helps direct speaker sound for 4-speaker iPad models; I see it simply as lightening the case. The main selling point of this case is the swivel mount integrated into the iPad frame. It allows you to turn the iPad in a full 360 degrees. I don't know if the swivel is durable as it looks like simple impact plastic. Targus claims the case meets the MIL spec for 4 foot drops; but we'll still be careful with it. They also say the case with fit the iPad Air, Air 2, iPad Pro 9.7" and the 2017 9.7" iPad. I can confirm it fits the iPad Air and the new 2017 iPad without issue. Targus offers a limited lifetime warranty but you need to register the item with their website. I expect Targus will deny most warranty claims under the "normal wear and tear" proviso. This is an okay case; but was selected mostly due to limited choice and the swivel mount.

I had a similar Targus folio for my older laptop. This folio has a rubber holder for the IPad rather than the plastic holder in the previous model. So it is easier to get the iPad in and out, and gives you a better grip. I haven't had it long enough to know if it will be as durable as the previous holder. Note: The previous holder for the older IPad broke so that the holder was no longer connected to the outer folio. I don't know if this can happen to this holder. The outer folio folds different from the older folio for the older IPad model. It is still able to rotate 360 degress, and so you can setup your IPod for viewing in portrait or landscape nodes. But the difference in folding can make it a little more awkward when holding it in your hand. This folio was cheaper than the previous one I had purchased, and there is a more expensive folio which may be more comparable to my old folio. For the price this was a great purchase. I like being able to stand the IPad in portrait or landscape positions.

Ok it is not a heavy duty case like for construction or children. For a casual look and functionality it is really good. It protects your ipad with a nice cushion padding; the rubberized rotating insert that holds the ipad does a 360 degree turn and works as a stand. The way it is designed it directs the speaker sound to the user. It is sturdy enough to last a good while and keep your ipad protected. My daughter had a similar targus for her ipad mini and wanted the same for my ipad. It is a nice sleek not too bulky functional folio/case for an ipad. It should fit the 6th gen ipad, the package of the one I purchased had a sticker suggesting it did and it does fit like a glove. An elastic strap can secure the folio from opening keeping it protected inside luggage or backpack. I can highly recommend it and I am very happy with it.

We bought the newest iPad (the 5th generation, not the Pro line) directly from Apple back in May 2017 and were surprised to learn that even Apple themselves didn't have any full cases for It; Apple only had the Smart Cover. The Apple "Genuises" suggested that any cover made for the iPad Air 4 would work, but that is an inaccurate statement - the iPad Air 4 and the newest iPad are different enough (lenses placement, lightning port location) that trying to use an iPad Air case on the iPad was frustrating. Then a friend bought the same iPad as us, and, as luck would have it, they were strolling through Best Buy when they saw this case from Targus. It had a sticker on it that said it fit the latest iPad so they took a chance. And low and behold, it does! Everything lines up and it is a very sturdy case. We bought the black version and couldn't be happier. Our only gripe is the price, and think that it could be a little cheaper, but we can't fault the fit and finish. A very well made case.

I ordered this case strictly because it was in stock at the store and I thought I could pick it up the same day. I was incorrect but it's still a decent case and worth the money. I've dropped my Air 2 a few times with no damage so the case offers good protection. It's also not to difficulty to hold. Things I would change: the grooves are not deep enough when I fold the case up so it has a tendency to slid if I don't have it resting on a completely flat, hard surface (not a huge issue though) AND the strap fits well but I noticed it's already starting to fray slightly from use. The wear is not bad enough that I'm concerned it will give out soon but eventually it will need replacing, long before the case itself wears out. Still, easy enough to take a piece of elastic and do a temporary fix. I do like that the case turns the iPad off when I close it shut and, as long as I use the elastic, will keep it from turning itself back on. Overall this is one of the best cases on the market if you don't want to spend a huge amount of money and/or don't want a keyboard.

I had seen variants of this case over the course of many iPad versions, but this is the first time I made the purchase. I was ultimately a bit disappointed. Pros: Good protection. Nice feel to case. Cons: 1) A bit bulkier than I would have liked, due to the ability to change the landscape/profile orientation in standing mode 2) The stand itself was sub-par. It was awkward to get set and prone to collapsing. 3) NO MAGNET to tell the iPad that the case is closed. This was a big issue for me. 4) The stylus loop is too big for the Apple Pencil; I almost lost mine. This was the final straw for me. I decided that the ability to read profile was not enough to keep this unit. I returned the unit to Best Buy and purchased a sturdier, yet slimmer, case.

The case is sturdy & well made. However it is a little bulkier than most. I do like the fact that I can pivot my iPad from vertical to horizontal positions. I only gave it 3 stars because I do not care for the way it closes, with an elastic band. I doubt it will last as long as some other types of closures. I found out the hard way that you MUST use the elastic band when the iPad is not in use because, although it does put the tablet to sleep when you close the cover, it (the cover) is too light & stiff to stay closed on its own. If it's not secured with the elastic band, or laid heavy side up, the cover pops up & wakes the iPad up causing the battery to run down much faster. Also, the ridges that are etched inside the case to hold the iPad in different positions are not deep enough. I find that I am constantly having to reposition my iPad because it frequently slips when I try to stand it up.

Picked up a new model iPad and, unfortunately, it wouldn't fit in the previous Targus case I had for my iPad Air 2. With limited options, I decided to go with this one, primarily for the rotating function for tablet viewing. After a couple of weeks, I'm fairly happy with the case although there are a couple of things I dislike. The first is that the case only rotates in one direction, so to get it in the position I like with the home button at the bottom, I have to swivel the iPad 270 degrees instead of just being able to swing it back. The second is that the part of the cover the actual iPad rests in when it's standing is a bit too flexible. I like that it allows you to accommodate propping it up on your leg or at different angles, but it can't serve as a flat surface unless you have something pretty sturdy under it. Overall, I'm happy with the purchase and, other than those couple of reservations, I'd recommend it.

Was skeptical initially when I purchased this in my local BestBuy store together with my iPad Air 2. My wife didn't like the look initially but after 2 weeks of used, we are sold. We like it because: 1) Offers great protection, including corners, with optimal weight and thickness. 2) Feels really good on the hand when reading iPad laying on bed (don't recommend you do this, but this is me) 3) Rotates and holds the iPad firmly, giving both portrait and landscape orientations. 4) Excellent grip and the multi-positions/angles are more than enough. 5) Excellent fit, with all the holes/slots nicely crafted. 6) Does not muffle the speakers! This is important to me at least. The only thing I don't like about it (minor and could be just a personal preference): I don't like the open hold at the back, which let's you see the Apple logo. I prefer to have it fully covered, but noticed that many other vendors do the same thing.

When I bought my iPad Pro, I wanted to buy a case for it, but every one I saw in Best Buy was in my opinion, too expensive, so I bought one online for a significantly lower price. When the new case arrived, the feel of it was cheap, and the stand keep collapsing every time I touched the screen, but I expected that in a sub $15 case. What concerned me was how thin it was. I quickly realized this case would not protect my iPad if it were dropped. Luckily, I had some Reward Points to redeem, as well as a coupon, so I used them to purchase this case. What a difference! This case is very sturdy and well built. I'm not as concerned as I was before about damage from impacts. I still think the case is a little overpriced, however, don't trust your expensive investment with cheap protection.

To sum up my review: I purchased one years ago for an earlier Ipad--found it worked and held up so well I gravitated to one for my new Ipad too. The original did finally fail to protect the device after five years--but I submit dropping the Ipad down a set of concrete stairs is an extreme test (sigh!). I looked at competing items and still found this to be one of the best--and it is improved from my older one in that the plastic holding the Ipad in is softer and appears to have a "cushion" (some air space) to better handle shocks... like, say maybe those concrete stairs... purchase with confidence!

Good Rotating Case for New 2017 iPad 9.7"

This case was purchased for a new 2017 model iPad 9.7". This new model is basically an iPad Air-2 in the chassis of an iPad Air so dimensionally, an iPad Air case will fit better- except for those full Otterbox-type cases which have problems due to buttons lining up properly. This case is a bit bulky, but that is to accommodate the rotational ring built into the frame which allows the iPad to rotate 360 degrees. This allows the user to use the case as a stand in both portrait and landscape modes. The cover includes the magnets required to operate the auto on/off function and an elastic band can be used to secure the cover open or closed. The edges of the case are not finished well and may be sharp to some fingers. Overall, a good case for the price.

This is the second cover of this model that I have purchased. The first one was for an iPad 3, and this current one is for an iPad Pro 9.7. The cover allows the iPad to orient in portrait or landscape mode by simply rotating the iPad within the cover. However, the newer version does not allow the iPad to tilt back as much as the older cover for the iPad 3. In other words, the newer cover keeps the iPad Pro 9.7 more vertical than the older cover did. So sitting at a table, I need to place something like a half used stack of post-its under the front of the newer cover to get the display to tilt back like the old cover. Otherwise, it is a nice, solid cover. The older cover still protects the iPad 3 well.

The Versa Folio is a good choice. It's a little thick, but that provides good protection for the iPad Pro. It doesn't add a lot of weight. The rotating iPad holder allows you to use it in landscape or portrait orientation on a desk or on your lap. Fold the cover back and you can easily hold it in one hand. The perforated, flexible holder grips the iPad tightly with little or no chance for it to fall out. There is no magnet closure, but there is an elastic band to keep it closed. The leather-like cover feels good in my hand. The little scoops for the iPad Pro speakers to direct the sound out work very well. My favorite feature is that I can put it on my lap and the folio holds my iPad steady in a variety of viewing angles.

I purchased this particular iPad folio to use in place of my Logitech keyboard case. One of my sisters had been using one for quite a while and I thought it had nice features -- two different positions/angles for your iPad, felt padding which keeps your iPad from slipping and offers cushioning for your iPad, and an elastic strap that is attached to the back of the folio keeping your iPad secure should you bump it against something or even drop it. Probably, the only thing I would change would be the color. I really wanted a purple, turquoise, or teal but purchased a red one. I don't think there were many color choices of the "Targus-Classic Versavu Folio" for the 9.7-inch Apple Air 2, at least not in the store I was in.

I would say this is mostly a good design and well made case for the iPad. It is made from quality components. My only real complaint is the elastic strap that is used to hold the case closed. Prior models had a clipping mechanism that would hold the case closed. They really could not think of a better way to do that than a elastic strap? Very hokey. Overall the case is well worth the cost. It is nice to be able to rotate the tablet without removing it from the case. If you are looking for protection and an executive look for your iPad case this is a good choice. Works well, with ample protection. I bought 2 for my parents. They like the feel and function.

I was looking for a solid protective cover for my work iPad Air 2, ideally with a different color or design to help me keep track of my machine in the crowded office. This case covered both needs well. I liked how substantial the case feels, without being overly blocky or not fitting into my hand (I'm average sized, and can hold one handed comfortably). It also stands up on it's own pretty well, even balanced on a blanket or soft surface. This cover was a little more expensive than others on the market, but felt fair. I like this at the full $40-50 price, and love it on sale at $25-30.

My husband needed a new case for his Ipad, but the majority of the ones we were looking at were either too expensive (over $75) or not the right size (he has a new version of the Ipad) Enter the Targus classic VersaVu case. Great price (and it was on sale, making it an even better value) and fit the Ipad like a glove. We've used Targus VersaVu cases before, so we trust the name, and I've had one on mine since I bought it 3 years ago. I would recommend this case to anyone who wants good protection without paying through the nose. NOTE: This is not a waterproof case, but since I don't use my electronics near water, this fit my needs perfectly.

Don't really care for this cover. The sales associate said it's one of the two most popular ones for the ipad pro but I don't see why. I'm not crazy about it because when it's tilted to stand up the grooves are inverted so it's very easy to slide out of the groove and there's not much stability when using the device. It kind of moves so sometimes I have to hold it with the other hand to keep it from wobbling. The cover I had for my former ipad had raised stops that prevented it from sliding down. The ability to turn from landscape to vertical is a nice feature but I, personally, don't use the feature much. Most of what I do is in landscape so it's a lost feature for me.
