You ever buy something thinking, “Alright, it’ll do for now,” and then it ends up completely blowing your mind? Yeah, that’s exactly what happened when I got the opportunity to test out the new TCL G64. I just wanted a decent display for my setup that I could use for gaming and work but turns out, got the best of both worlds. So, let’s go over what TCL G64 has to offer. Specs: HEIGHT: 23.46 INCHES WIDTH: 28.07 INCHES DEPTH 11.81 INCHES (With Stand) WEIGHT 19.16 POUNDS Ports: 1 x Display Port 1.4 2 x HDMI Headphone Jack Unboxing and Setup Setting up the TCL G64 monitor is straightforward and user-friendly. Like many modern monitors, assembly is a breeze thanks to a simple, tool-free screw mechanism located at the bottom of the stand. This means you can get the monitor up and running quickly without searching for any extra tools. Inside the box, you’ll find a display port cable and a power cord included, but it’s important to note that HDMI cables are not provided. If you plan on connecting via HDMI, you’ll need to have your own cable ready. One aspect that immediately stands out during unboxing is the monitor’s appearance. The TCL G64 features a matte gray and black finish that gives it a sleek, modern look. This stylish design adds a premium touch to your setup right out of the box. Display Quality and Performance The core strength of the TCL G64 monitor lies in its exceptional display. Featuring a QHD resolution of 2560x1440, the screen delivers sharp and detailed visuals that far surpass those of standard 1080p displays. This resolution is particularly well-suited to the monitor's size, ensuring that images and text appear crisp and clear, whether you're working or gaming. Color quality is another standout feature. The monitor produces bright, punchy, and incredibly clear colors that make every scene pop. With support for HDR10 and Quantum Dot technology, the TCL G64 brings out remarkable detail in both dark and bright scenes, allowing for a truly immersive viewing experience. When it comes to gaming, the combination of a 180Hz refresh rate and a lightning-fast 1ms response time means gameplay is ultra-smooth and highly responsive. Fast-paced games look crisp and run seamlessly, making every session both fun and enjoyable. All in all, after spending way too many hours “testing” this monitor (for research, of course), I can confidently say TCL nailed it. It’s fast, bright, and good-looking, everything I wish I was. If you’re upgrading your setup, this is one purchase you won’t regret.

I have never owned a TCL monitor or television so I was eager to try this latest offer from TCL. But since I have heard good things about TCL televisions I was expecting good things. After several days of heavy use became very familiar with this monitor and can happily report the G64 provides top notch picture quality and gaming performance. Not only does it check all of the boxes, but the picture quality totally blew me away. This monitor is now my new primary display. As can be expected the shipping g box it large due to the sheer size of the 32 inch display. However I found the monitor to be rather lightweight and easy to handle. Assembly was straightforward and consisted of attaching the stand to display portion. Once connected my PC took over and recognized the monitor. The monitor offers DisplayPort and HDMI connections, to suit your preferred or required connection method. The monitor has and integrated speaker for sound. The sound was tiny so I am using it with headphones. If you want ambient sound then I recommend using it with an external speaker. I used it extensively for several days and truly enjoyed the picture quality. Blacks are deep and colors are accurate. Gaming performance was likewise excellent. When set to the proper resolution yo match your graphics card, lag is virtually nonexistent. I completely recommend the TCL G64. It is not my primary monitor and because of my experience I will be looking very closely at TCL products in the future.

TCL Improves Gaming Monitor's Cinematic Experience

I've had the TCL 32G64 Series QHD QD-Mini LED 180Hz gaming monitor set up for a bit now, running it with a mix of Apex, some open-world games, and my usual productivity stuff. I was curious to see how the whole Mini LED thing panned out compared to the standard IPS panel I had before. The 180Hz refresh rate is nice, but at this point is practically a minimum requirement for me given the monitors I’ve been reviewing and using.Right out of the box, the first thing you notice is the picture quality. The QD-Mini LED panel really does pop. Colors are super vibrant thanks to that Quantum Dot layer, and the local dimming on the Mini LEDs means you actually get deep blacks. Like, they're not OLED-level perfect, but they're surprisingly close. It's a huge step up from typical edge-lit monitors where black often looks more like a dark gray. This difference is especially great in games with dark scenes or watching movies. Setup was pretty straightforward. Plugged it into my PC via DisplayPort, went into the settings, and made sure it was running at the full 180Hz. It was detected without issue. The stand is actually pretty decent – it's sturdy and lets you adjust tilt, swivel, and even pivot the monitor, which is a nice touch for a monitor in this price bracket. There’s pretty much no height adjustment so I ended up transferring this to my monitor arm. The manual explains how to remove it from the stand but if you’ve done this on similar stands, the process is pretty much the same. The on-screen display (OSD) and buttons on the back are a bit generic, not super intuitive, but they get the job done once you find your way around. The menu isn't the snappiest thing in the world, a little slow to respond, but you're not in there constantly so it's fine. You get a joystick on the bottom to navigate menus and it worked pretty well that I wasn’t accidentally doing things I did not intend. Selection is sure, doesn’t leave you guessing whether you’ve pressed enough. Out of the box the brightness was a bit high for my room, and the color seemed okay, maybe a touch cool. A few tweaks in the settings for a warmer temperature and lowering the brightness made it look great. Text on the QHD resolution at 32 inches looks clean and I didn't need any scaling. With gaming, the monitor does well. The 180Hz refresh rate at this point isn’t anything too special, but if you’ve been using a 144Hz or slower panel, you still pick up on the improvmenet. Everything feels just a bit smoother, a little cleaner, and tracking fast-moving targets in Apex felt more natural. The 1ms GtG response time definitely helps with motion clarity, and I didn't really notice any ghosting on the default settings. It supports FreeSync Premium and G-Sync, which is a must-have, so no screen tearing at all. The only real downside are the built-in speakers; they're pretty weak. They work if you have absolutely nothing else, but you'll want dedicated speakers or headphones for any kind of immersive sound. There's a useful USB-C port with power delivery, which is great for people with a work laptop, and a built-in KVM switch, though one thing I saw noted online was a potential issue with the USB-A ports on the KVM not waking sleeping devices, so maybe that's something to keep in mind if that's a key feature for you. Overall, I'm really impressed. For the price, the TCL 32G64 offers a fantastic picture with the QD-Mini LED tech, fast refresh rate for smooth gaming, and proper HDR support. It's a huge value and a great middle ground for someone who wants the deep blacks and vibrant colors of high-end displays without breaking the bank. Would I recommend it? Absolutely, if you want a great all-rounder for gaming and general use.

    Quality and Affordability Without Compromise

It’s nice to see TCL in the gaming business. They tend to have affordable screens, but I hadn’t tried them with games. One of the features I quickly appreciated was the FreeSync and G-Sync support. Having a few gaming PCs, I often get frustrated when the monitors I like the best won’t work as well with some of them due to the support of only one of these features because of the different GPUs that are used in the different PCs. At 1ms response time along with its 180Mhz refresh rate, I could hardly notice any lag at all. No motion blur either even in the fast action scenes. MiniLED surprised me because the black levels are very close to OLED. To be honest, in most scenes it was hard for me to tell the difference, especially because brightness in many cases was better. The only time I could tell it was not OLED was when looking at it from certain angles. Still, that’s rarely the way you look at a monitor. After all, it’s not a TV. Of course, it is a middle of the range monitor. Because It is also very good for video editing although I would still go with a more advanced monitor for very serious work, I wish I could try its more advanced sibling because I believe it would be just the perfect monitor for everything, not just for gaming. Still, for my current gaming needs, this is just the right monitor for the job. Especially considering the size. I would easily recommend this gaming monitor, not only because of its affordability for this kind, but also because of its display quality and features.

    Don't Sleep on TCL

The TCL G64 is an exceptional monitor for the price point. Even though the design doesn't scream, "I'm a Gaming Monitor," the features and specs do - the value you get with this 32-inch beast far exceeded my expectations. PROs: 1) Display Ports - You are getting 2 HDMI ports and 1 DisplayPort on the G64. I was pleasantly surprised by this because monitors in this price range typically only run HDMI. I love options! 2) Stand - Competitors should take note. I've had multiple monitors priced under $500 and more often than not, the stands have limited adjustability. The G64's stand is fantastic - I get little to no movement and the range for adjusting is vast. I currently have the monitor rotated in portrait mode - yes, you can do that with the G64. 3) Resolution - YOU DO NOT WANT A 32" MONITOR WITH LESS THAN 2.5K RESOLUTION. I'll say it again - 2k to 2.5k should be the bare minimum for this size screen. The G64 nailed it at 2.5K or 2560x1440. If you buy anything this size at a lower resolution, you will be disappointed. We all sit fairly close to our monitors while gaming - you don't want to be able to see individual pixels. This screen is crisp and vibrant. 4) Refresh Rate - 180Hz is the sweet spot for almost all gamers. If you are a hunting for more speed, you probably are not looking in the right price range. CONs: 1) Color Profile - The color profile out of the box was underwhelming at best. Colors and blacks felt undersaturated and washed out. It took me 15-20 minuets to calibrate the screen to my eye - this was surprising to me because TCL boasts about the G64's 99% sRGB coverage and high contrast abilities. Even after a few weeks, I'm still playing with the settings to find that sweet spot. The G64 is a solid option for any gamer looking to upgrade their screen size and not sacrifice performance. While the color profile was a. bit underwhelming, the rich package of features and specs more than make up for the extra work I had to put in.

    An all-around solid MiniLED monitor

I’ve heard great things about TCL’s televisions and was excited to learn that they were entering the monitoring market, with a MiniLED, no less! TCL has come out swinging with this great 32-inch G64 miniLED monitor — just know that you are giving up some conveniences like USB-C and a webcam to get that above-average picture quality. + + + Pros + + + + Matte coating: everyone has their preference here, but I feel like the matte coating is great for reducing glare and even better when you can incorporate it in a way where picture quality doesn’t suffer as done here. + The color accuracy and viewing angles were both superb. + I think TCL is very conservative with their brightness measurements because this thing seems a lot brighter than 600 nits. + The lit joystick is a nice, appreciated touch. Many manufacturers don’t do this so you find yourself stumbling along the bottom of the monitor looking for it. + Speakers - they’re not the best, but again, many manufacturers neglect including them. + The built-in support for picture-in-picture was an appreciated bonus. + The local dimming and HDR on this monitor really take this to a different level. Having an OLED television, it’s not on the OLED level, but it would certainly beat most of your run-of-the-mill LED panels. The trade-off is you don’t have to worry about the OLED burn-in down the line which is a plus for this panel. - - - Cons - - - - I really wish the resolution on this was 4K/UHD. At 32 inches, 1440p is decent, but 4K would have made text much sharper. - It would be nice to have on-board USB-C ports for charging, video and data. - A webcam would also be a nice addition. Built-in means less cabling/cable clutter, lower cost (since you don’t have to buy one) and you’re not eating up a port to power/interface an external one.

The beauty of an OLED without burn-in fear

OK, so I'm pushing it a little bit claiming it's a good as an OLED but it comes pretty dang close. If they increase the zones I'm sure the G64 could sit side by side with an OLED and it would be tough to see if difference...if you were looking straight on. This is probably the one weakness of the monitor, but it really doesn't affect me at all - the viewing angle. If you're a person that likes their monitor to not be in front of them the bad angles might bother you. But since monitors are designed to be in front at a short distance it won't affect the majority of users. The G64 is the best non-OLED monitor I've had an chance to play with so far. HDR looks incredible. Only on scenes with a lot of dark backgrounds will you see some haloing, but it's not too distracting. There's a bit of motion blur but it's not too noticeable while gaming. Honestly, the G64 is probably one of the best monitors I've used based on price/performance. I haven't gotten to calibrate it yet since I need to get to work to borrow the i1 so I've had to eyeball it for now. But as it is, the colors are pretty accurate (based on opinion and no measurements yet) and the HDR can get mighty bright. I'll probably have to tune it down more for the sake of accuracy and give up on those bright highlights. If you're looking for a gaming monitor, you need to consider the G64. If you're looking for a work monitor, you won't be disappointed either.

I've had dual monitors for some time now, but always wanted to give a larger screen monitor a try. Being that 32" gaming monitors are on the somewhat more expensive side, you want to get your moneys worth. TCL products have been on the rise, so the TCL G64 gaming monitor definitely caught my attention. Plus, I've owned a TCL 75" TV for a while now and have not had any issues with it. The TCL G64 Series Gaming Monitor is huge! I am primarily using the G64 in my racing simulator rig and am getting ready to add a second G64 to my setup. I am impressed by the picture quality of the G64. The fact that it has a display port and an HDMI port also makes it easier for me to add another screen, as I previously had a dual monitor setup plugged into each port. The colors and picture quality are incredible. I have played long hours using this monitor and have found the brightness to be just right. I've had other monitors that provided very dim displays, or sometimes even too bright of a display. But the G64 is perfect once you do some fine tuning. Overall, I am really happy with the TCL G64 gaming monitor. I would highly recommend it.

Decent gaming monitor if your GPU can keep up

This is the first monitor I've had with a refresh rate higher than 75Hz. The difference at 180Hz (at the monitor's "Native" 1440p resolution) is astonishing and worth jumping to if you game regularly and your graphics card can keep up. I also found that even my typing and mouse movement in general feels more responsive - again, a benefit of the higher refresh rate. I have to admit it's almost off-putting at first (in a good way) but you get used to it quickly. A couple of things to note: - When connected via HDMI, this will only go to 144Hz - I'm not sure if this was my graphics card (Intel Arc A750) or the monitor's limitation. To reach 180Hz, I needed to attach via the included DisplayPort cable - Having speakers built-in to the monitor is actually nice for when I don't want to put my headphones on, as I can hear notifications reasonably well. If you're going to do any serious listening though, they're insufficient. - I took one star away from my review because I have a desk with monitor arms on which to mount - and while this supports the VESA standard layout for screws, it's not flush with the back of the monitor which made it really difficult to mount. You'll probably encounter the same problem with many similar setups for wall-mounting, etc. The instructions don't call this out, and even include a diagram showing how to remove and re-install the mounting screws (if someone doesn't know "righty tighty, lefty loosey" by now, should they be purchasing a monitor?) - but the picture was misleading and could be interpreted as though there's a special mounting kit you need to build the back out to make it flush and work better.
