    Blinking Light

As far as picture quality, sound, streaming, ease, and price goes, this is definitely a 5 star TV. But that white light is -5 stars. First of all, it's on when the TV is off which is crazy, but at least that can be disabled in the settings. But when the TV isn't online, it blinks continuously and that can't be disabled. I called TCL support and he kept repeating that the point of the flashing light was to let people know that the TV wasn't online. But duh, if the wifi isn't connected, I don't need a light flashing in my eyes to tell me that. I prefer to only have my wifi on when I'm using the computer or streaming, otherwise I turn it off, but then it's impossible to watch regular TV because that stinkin light keeps flashing. I put a piece of black electrical tape over it, that sure covered the light, however, then the remote control didn't work. The only option I had was to reset the TV to factory settings and skip the step of connecting to wifi, which defeats the whole point of a Smart TV, and use the Roku that I already had. I wouldn't buy the TV again for that reason.

      Hi Marty,

When you disable to Standby LED it should also disable it from blinking when not connected to the Internet. To turn off the standby LED you would go to Home>Settings>System>Power>Standby LED>OFF. If you are still seeing this persist, please reach out to us at tclsocial@tcl.com with your contact information and reference this review, and someone will get back to you right away to assist.

    no network port

I decided to get this size for my bedroom rather than the 43". Unfortunately, this tv doesn't come with a network port--just built-in wifi, and the signal from the router, which is far, far away in the house, isn't good enough to let me stream. I think they should have this in the specifications, i.e., Network Ports : 0, since that's the way they show what inputs/outputs the tv does not have. Instead they put "Network Compatibility: Built-in Wi-fi" which doesn't mean it doesn't also have a network port (like all the other tvs I was selecting from). Frustrating because I thought I was being so careful about checking everything. Who would have thought you couldn't hard wire to a network. Other than that I'd be happy with it because the picture is fine, the sound is fine, the size is good. I would recommend to a friend but only if I tell them about the lack of port.

      Hello mith021,

All of our smart TVs have the ability to connect to the Internet via WiFi. If you are looking for a TV with an Ethernet port you can try looking at our 4-Series. In addition to having an Ethernet port it also has a 4K UHD resolution and HDR support. Happy viewing!

    Worst WIFI CONNECTIVITY

First time I’ve ever had a negative review. I have a 55” works well so I decided to get a “ smaller version” for our bedroom. We could not get the WiFi to connect. Put it next to our 55” and it still would not connect keep in mind the SIGNAL on 55 it was strong. TO GET THIS SMALLER VERSION TO CONNECT we had to place the tv within 7 foot of our HIGH END WiFi then the TCL SMALLER VERSION WORKED. Our WiFi runs a 2,000 square foot smart home. With manny items connected all having strong signals from Kasa bulbs, outlets to iPads, phones laptops etc.... 3 hrs of wasted time to determine a WiFi issue. Never again! Best thing about this experience is BEST BUYS STELLAR SERVICE. They provided me Sharps comparable model. The SHARP version Works perfect connected right away with STRONG signal. Point it how does a TCL quality system miss testing the WiFi on the build of the tv. I SEEN OTHER COMPLAINTS on this issue wish I would of HEEDED the warnings so heed this THE TCL WIFI is TERRIBLE.

Great sound quality for a flat screen, much better than my last 40". Video quality is solid with it's only limitation being limited color/contrast selection. For me, that was to be expected at this price point, but it still looks great on this size screen. The Roku platform is excellent. I have a Sony 65" 4k as well, that uses an Android based smart tv platform. I much prefer the Roku, greater app selection, I can hide/delete unwanted apps, overall much cleaner interaction. I am buying a second one today for my parents for Christmas.

I hadn't had any problems with the picture quality however the wifi doesn't connect properly. I have good wifi as all the other device's in my home work smoothly but using this TV I constantly get shut out of apps like sling and Netflix and worst of all my Pandora won't even open at all. Keeps saying a problem occurred, please try again. Really disappointed because I have a Roku bar in my kids room that works fine. Also, I wasn't able to access my free 30 day sling. Thankfully I had it already.

When I am on cable/HDMI I cannot go from one channel directly to another distant channel without scrolling up or down. My current remote from TCL-Roku TV does not have #s, so I cannot go from channel 34 directly to channel 805 or any other channel that is far above or below the current channel. The process of changing channels is more complicated & time consuming. But I still love my new TV. It will take some time to get use to it unless there may be a way to create a short cut. Please advise.

This TV is a great value and a great picture. The OS is very user friendly and the availability of content is no joke. Roku channel is good free option and all the apps work great. So many options and you can customize your lineup of apps, connect all your game systems and enjoy for hours on end. I only wish the sound was louder....you have to get it on 25-30 to hear it and if you leave the room you will not hear it down the hall, etc... speakers could be better but not a dealbreaker.

bought this to replace a 26" 720P TV for the kitchen. looking for something smaller like a 32" and i was cutting the cable cord. so this 40" with ROKU for $199 was just too good to pass up. LOVE IT!!!!! 1080P but in the kitchen 3-4 feet away it looks like 4K the Roku needed to be set up with my netflix, prime and Hulu accounts. once i did that BAM! So easy to use, great price, great picture. bought Roku for the rest of the house. simple simple simple

Was drawn to this for the 120hz panel and full HD specs, but in all honesty, it looks terrible. Stutters on action scenes off full HD DirecTV, has a terrible viewing angle and feels really cheap. A simple tap on the panel turns the entire screen white for a second. Salesperson in the store compared it to Vizio or Insignia, but it's FAR below either of those. It's got decent sound and Roku, and that's where it ends. Does not have an ethernet port, either, but I knew that going in.

I was skeptical of this new brand that I had not heard of before but thought I’d roll the dice as this tv offers a great combination of utilities with the Roku built in. I bought two of these TVs for my guest bedrooms to provide entertainment for company that stays over and they work great! Easy to set up and the picture quality through the streaming platform is excellent for a simple 1080p tv. Highly recomend

You can't beat it for the price. Excellent picture quality, decent audio. Much better picture quality and audio than the Vizio 40" I purchased nearly 2 weeks ago. I'm not a fan of the Roku platform but I purchased it for my daughter and she's ok with it. I don't like the idea of having to create a Roku account just to activate the TV and activate added apps with a code. For a non 4k Smart TV under 200 bucks, you can't beat it.

I have a few TCL tvs and love them all! I put this 40" in a smaller room since it was still a 1080p. All my other TCLs have a ether net jack in the back, but not this one, kinda disappointing, I hope the wifi strength is good enough to reach the room, I may return it for a LG or other 40" option. To be fair, I should have read the description, but I just assumed since I already owned two other TCLs. I would have 5 star if it had this.

      Hi Jeremy,

As you mentioned, while this particular model does not have an Ethernet port it does have the ability to connect to the Internet via WiFi. Our different series have different features and capabilities, and each series builds on the previous one. All of our 4K series include an Ethernet port. Hope this helps!

Was looking for both quality and affordability. I found it in this TV after spending hours of due diligence on others that I could have purchased. I enjoy the TV very much, clear and beautiful picture. The sound is OK but with a sound bar it is Great. Simple control and unlike Alexia, Roku offers so many free channels and free movies through sites like Pluto.

At first I thought this wasn't great quality as the remote seems cheap but it works great without problems. The sound quality is good for the small room I have it in and the picture is nice. I like the Roku TV features and the very easy menu. Way better than my Sony menu and it updates itself without problems. It works great with wifi or hardline and has easy access to my dvd.

The picture is good but the built in speakers are very bad. If you think you can fix the sound by using a sound bar or full blown surround sound you are wrong. TCL has a audio delay problem that is well documented online. The audio is delayed so lips don't sync with sound. I wish I had known this before purchasing.

I needed to replace an aging 720p tv as secondary TV (couch spudding/Netflixing). We are a Roku household so I wanted a smart TV with Roku. This TCL model fit the bill. And the price was very reasonable. It is 1080p and has built-in Roku. The display is pretty good, but off-center viewing gets very washed out. Setup was smooth. Overall I am pleased with this TV.

This is my 2nd TCL TV and both have been great buys. Yes, this TV is not a high end TV, but it's worth every bit of the cost. It's was very easy to set up and the ROKU interface is wonderful. Very easy to switch from Cable/Antenna to Internet channels like Netflix, Hulu, Prime etc. I know the picture is not the high end quality of a QLED, but for a bedroom unit I think its hard to beat.

Great picture on this TV! User friendly setup, clear step by step setup process that is pretty quick with many many app options, lots of free viewing options as well as paid options. Hook up everything u want in the beginning and you add those in setup process, no input button required, everything hooked up (DVD player, game systems) is right on home screen you can easily switch back and forth.

So far so good. Color saturation is excellent. Brightness is excellent. Image clarity and sharpness is excellent. Bright white LED on front of TV stays on, when TV is off. This is not a problem for me since the TV is in the living room. This would not be a good TV for the bedroom....unless you like a night light.
